Flowerland Nursery is an absolute gem. The staff is incredibly knowledgeable, friendly, and genuinely enthusiastic about helping you find the right plants, not just selling you something. They took the time to answer questions, offered thoughtful recommendations, and shared great care tips tailored to my space and experience level. The quality of the plants is outstanding. Everything is healthy, well maintained, and clearly cared for with intention. The selection is curated but diverse, with beautiful houseplants, outdoor options, and unique finds you don't see at big-box stores. It is also just a great environment to walk through. This is the most beautiful place for a date or just an afternoon alone. Both outdoor and indoor plants can be found here. There is a coffee stand and plenty of areas to sit and read. I love the gift shop as well. There are artisan crafts that will make the perfect gift or addition to your home. Staff is fun and helpful as well. Please see the photos below. Stumbled upon flower land during the Solano festival thingy but it was closed at the time so we made our way back last weekend and went again today. Such a wonderfully thought-out nursery and they have a great variety of plants, flowers & herbs. We came home with marigolds, a rosemary, parsley and chives. The quality of the herbs are superb and they've been so happy since we've planted them in our planter. We could spend an hour every weekend just walking through the greenery. Also noticed they have a coffee spot by the entrance, excited to give it a try next time we visit. read more

A little too chaotic of a nursery for me lol but I can see people enjoying this compact jungle-y labyrinth. Has a little bit of everything: houseplants, succulents, herbs, pottery. Dangerous for impulse buyers for sure. All of the plants here look well-kept. I came to Flowerland Nursery once while living in Albany. I was looking for a special soil mixture for an exotic succulent I purchased from the UC Berkeley botanical garden when it was having one of its sales. It was a South African native species with a partial name, Lokii, like a god for my Old Norse quarter of my family tree. The offerings were varied and fun. Workers were quick to ask if I needed help finding anything. They showed me the soil options, none were what I was looking for. I also checked out the pots and found a few I liked and decided that if/when the plant got larger I would come back and get one. In true Loki fashion, the plant was dead within a week or two. I think I watered it too much. My return to the this store thus was not needed as I managed to discourage myself from additional plants in my remaining time living in Albany. However, had the plant not died, I would have returned and upgraded the pot once it reached a certain size. read more

I've been here 4 times. The first two visits were wonderful. On my 3rd visit, my sister and I ordered coffee, and sat at a table in the nursery to enjoy the atmosphere and ponder what to buy. The staff asked us to get up from the table. The tables in the nursery are not to sit at. They are actually for sale. There are no for sale signs on the tables and no indication that you shouldn't sit there. When I called to clarify the way we were treated by the staff, the person I spoke to was in no way kind or understanding. Now, I really don't want to go back in or introduce anyone else to the otherwise beautiful shop. I suggest putting price tags on the tables and do not sit on the merchandise signs. read more

Hidden gem in Albany on Solano. Coffee shop, gift shop, and nursery all in one. So many cool things to explore here from potted fruit trees, herbs, flowers, to outdoor lanterns and furniture and Venus fly traps and other carnivorous plants. I was up the street at Restore Dry Needling with the incomparable Dr. Jamie Hampton and she recommended checking out this place since I had a friend from NYC that was visiting. Totally worth coming to visit. Very cool shop. I picked up a basil plant and some neem oil but I am definitely coming back for some fruit trees and Venus fly traps. read more

One of my favorite nurseries in the Berkeley-ish area (ok ngl Solano is Berkeley in my head lol). With so much real estate, they're able to offer so many different indoor and outdoor plants to browse and explore. Not to mention, their pottery is super cute and more unique than others that I've been to. Staff are knowledgeable on plant care and happy to answer any questions or make recommendations. I've definitely come back a few times just to ask questions on soil types and general gardening advice LOL. The plants I do buy from here never have issues repotting and never have pests (thank god!). read more

I have been on a hunt for plants to fill in gaps in my garden. Yesterday I called Flowerland to ask about forest pansy redbud trees. They had two different kinds so I went in today to look at them both and decide. All the parking spots in front and nearby were filled so I parked illegally, hoping my blue hang tag would shield me, which it didn't so I added the cost of the ticket to the cost of the plant. A very nice man helped me at the nursery, very patiently explaining the differences between the two and I chose one. He brought it up to the desk for me and the woman behind the desk rang me up. Another very nice man took the tree out to the car and on the way to the car a third man commented on my Valkyries shirt and asked when the season started. When we got to the car we discussed where to put the tree and decided on the floor of the passenger side in front. He saw the ticket and gave me the bad news. Then I headed out. After a couple more stops I got home, took the tree out of the car, put it w/ the other plants waiting to be put in the ground and gave it a drink of water. read more

Although I no longer live nearby, this is one of those rare gems I'll happily go out of my way to visit. Their selection is phenomenal--healthy, unique, and offered at unbeatable prices. The staff here are incredibly friendly and impressively knowledgeable about all things plants, making every visit a pleasure. The retro vibe of the signage and the eclectic shop make it much more of a personality-driven nursery, even though they sell all the basics. The plant inventory is not quite at the same level and diversity as Berkeley Horticultural Nursery, but you also couldn't get a Highwire latte on the same property there. That's part of the appeal of Flowerland as it's something of a hybrid between a well-stocked nursery and The Gardener, the upscale home-&-garden store that focuses on the artisanal. In order to ensure safe distancing can happen during the COVID-19 crisis, they require you to make an appointment before visiting the store, a wise and essential decision and well worth the extra step you can take to enjoy the goods sold here. A beautiful jewel in the crown of the town of Albany. I friend and I were out for a walk and couldn't just walk past this place. They have so many displays to feast on. And they change their displays for the season--and they are season appropriate with their plants. Inside their building, they have many plants that are more appropriate indoors, seeds, tools, and items that are more valuable. Outside they have their outdoor displays, plants they you eat, trees, and more. There is a coffee shop outside, but it was too late in the day for me to have some. (If I am there in the morning--coffee would be good). Even if you aren't a gardener, you will find beauty there. You can always just walk around and feast your eyes. read more

After buying many many plants and pots here, we tried to exchange a table that didn't work for us, for one that did. The table was unused, still had the tags on it and was in perfect condition. We were denied because we were outside of the 48 hour return policy, which may make sense for a plant, but makes no sense for a furniture item. Was meeting a friend for coffee at Flowerland, and it just so happens I love nurseries... so this was a slam dunk for me. I arrived, ordered coffee, only to find out that there is no customer bathroom (which I think is illegal in CA if you serve food and beverages). The barista told me that the nearest bathroom was a quick 5 blocks away at the Safeway... which usually wouldn't be a big deal BUT when you have to pee... 5 blocks seems like an eternity. I mean... how do you not have a bathroom?They need better amenities for their customers... Otherwise it would have been a 5 star review. Bummed... read more

So. Many. Flowers. We absolutely adore Flowerland Nursery, having found this space after taking a stroll down Solano. We've dropped in here many times for flowers for ourselves, flowers for our friends, and sometimes just to see what they have in stock and enjoy the blooms. While checking out is always a bit of a jumble, the service is super friendly. The flower boxes are given one large cardboard box with low walls to carry all your new beauties out safely, and they also carry pots if you're looking for something pretty to plant in. We've kept coming back and will continue to visit, as Flowerland is definitely one of our favorites! read more

I couldn't afford my beloved BerkleyHort anymore so I've been checking out nurseries in the area. I love the help at Flowerland. They really know their stuff. And my 4 inch Linaria were only $5! Same plant same size $7 at BerkleyHort. All the plants look so healthy. Plus I love the way Flowerland is set up. It curves and flows like a proper garden path. I had the most pleasant experience at Flowerland yesterday. It was a sunny summer day and the flowers and plants all seemed extra happy to see the sun (it's been so dang dreary the past few months in the Bay Area). I had my breve cortado from Highwire. Lots of folks with their dogs, and walking around. There was a pie pop up. The staff were so friendly and helpful. Also, the store has lovely books, cards, jewelry ... and other nice things. I'd also like to add, that as one of the last covid hold outs who wears an N-95 mask EVERYWHERE and who avoids any inside spaces (covid is NOT over dummies, and long covid is no joke!) it was nice to be in a warm place, with a slight breeze, with social distancing, surrounded by plant life ... and sit and have a quality coffee beverage. read more

They also have a Highwire coffee truck that serves up really delicious drinks as well as regular popups with food vendors, so it's both a great snack spot and something to see. [ During Covid Review ] I have to say that this is one of my go to places if I either needed things for my plants, had questions about plants, or even a gift for someone that is into gardening or such. Parking here can be tough since it is located on one of the main streets (solano ave) and the only parking you can get is street parking. Luckily, Flowerland Nursery is located near the bottom of solano where you don't have to pay for parking. So I noticed when walking in, if you wanted to go into the nursery where the gift shop is, they only allow a certain number of people in line, 4 max. They have someone inside that will let you know when you can come in and when you should wait until a customer leaves. They have a gift shop, they have areas of the nursery you can look at and walk around in and they have a side where there is a small place to get coffee/tea/pastries. I have to say that this nursery has a variety of plants that other nurseries do not have. The staff here are really nice, helpful, and knowledgeable. My fiance and. I wanted to get his parents a gift and we knew that his mom wanted a chinese evergreen plant; however, we didn't know what the best choice was. After asking an employee there, she was super helpful in telling us her thoughts, options for repotting it, and the best soil for it. Everyone that works here knows what they are doing. I would definitely recommend this place because of the variety of plants they offer, the employees were great, our experience was fantastic here and it was great to know that this nursery is making sure each customer is keeping safe during this time we are living through. read more

They are so friendly here! Each time I saw an associate they greeted me or told me to let them know if I needed anything. They have a wide variety of plants. Plenty of indoor plants, gorgeous hanging plants, outdoor shade plants, etc. I was looking for rare plants today and wasn't able to find any, but I would certainly recommend this nursery to anyone looking for plants that are more common. I love the open plan of the nursery and the beautiful selection of pottery and ceramics that they carry. However, they don't carry good brands of potting soil or compost or supplies. If you place an order for plants, it goes into some alternate dimension because these people will never call you back and never follow through on anything. Small selection but good selection depending on time of year of interesting perennials and herbs. Succulent selection is average. Vegetable selection is usually very small in the summer, don't bother if you are looking for unusual tomatoes or peppers or anything like that. However, the reason that this review has two stars is because they are ableist bigots who no longer require masks, but MOSTLY because the people who work there have the biggest snotty attitude, like they are God's gift to the green earth, and that we should bend over backwards to buy from them. Lol, no. If I want to be condescended to and disregarded and treated rudely while buying plants, I'll just go to Berkeley Hort or Annie's Annuals. And it's only the women employees, interestingly. Too bad Griffs not there, he was by far the best selling point they have. I have had thousands of dollars of things selected and been ready to go in and check out and get treated snottily by some woman with an attitude, I just leave my cart right there. They accept appointments & walk-ins. For appointments, you would just go on their website and you'll see the different times they have available. But, this is not necessary since they're not as organized as they should be. If you have an appointment, you'll still wait to check-in because they utilize the check-in booth/stand as the check-out/pay station as well so it defeats the purpose of having an appointment. *FYI: Yes, they wear face masks but they do not adhere to the covid guidelines with regards to social distancing. Their staff is not friendly nor helpful & they don't social distance as well. They let in more than 10 customers at a time with little to no room to social distance. With regards to plant variations, they don't have much especially with indoor plants, and fruits. They do however have a lot of flowers & cactuses. I really wanna give this place 5 stars. The ambience is a 5 star but the experience is more a 2 or 3 star. The vibe and location of this place is immaculate. I love taking a trip to Albany just to walk down Solano Ave. They've got a great variety of amazing plants of all kinds most of the plants are healthy but some could definitely use some tlc for the price they are being sold at. So cute they have a coffee truck there as well to add to the vibe. The customer service here both times I have come was completely non existent. The employees give off a pretentious unapproachable vibe, like you are bothering them or in the way. For as much as they are selling these plants, though they are rare, as a client I feel underwhelmed by the experience. Maybe it's unintentional but all of the staff both on the register and the floor gave off the impression that I was an inconvenience or bother when asking for grow advice on a plant I was going to purchase. However, I did notice with certain customers so it is possible for them to be warm. I came here with my mom and we both felt as if we were treated completely different than other customers. A smile and simple hello goes a long way and would make the purchase feel like it was worth the time to come out and the experience. We wanted to check out the shed sale so we were told we could leave the plants at the front register, great. So I thought. We found some gems in the shed sale so that was great. Although it didn't feel like an "event" like how it was advertised on Facebook. The girl who rang us a 2nd time for the pottery and books purchased was at least friendly so made up a bit for the experience. However we went to the car to drop off the pottery from the shed sale and grab a box for our plants. When we got back I politely waited off to the side of the register at first to see if we were able to just load them up and head out. I was completely ignored but in their defense there was a line they were trying to get through. A simple "we'll be right with you" would have been fine. I decided to just get back in the purchase line and wait to box up my items. We were handed our plants in the middle of the line which just made things more confusing and as I'm writing this I'm realizing they forgot to hand me the orange variegated bromeliad I purchased so I will have to call tomorrow to either get refunded or find the time to make the drive out. FYI although it can accommodate a wheelchair in certain areas, the gravel in the outdoor area makes it a bit unsteady and it's not the most wheelchair accessible. The area for indoor plants is pretty tight too so was hard to maneuver when I brought my friend the last time. I felt the staff was more concerned he'd knock something over and break it vs his safety. So be mindful of that if you are handicap it's best to go with someone who can help you and maybe bring plants over for you to look at instead of trying to move through the store. As we were leaving the staff at least moved a few things out of the way so he could wheel out comfortably. As someone that works with people all day, the customer service aspect is what makes the experience for me. Especially when I can go to any other nursery or big chain and create something beautiful for a fraction of the price and a much friendlier staff. You can't market yourself as luxury or high end anything if the product and experience don't hit the mark. It's almost there. If you bring your own good company and are knowledgeable enough to navigate through the nursery without asking for help from staff you can still make this a great experience. I will try again the next time I'm in the area and give it a 3rd chance because I want to support small local businesses but I'm hoping it can improve in this area. read more

This place was amazing! Solid A++. Below are the reasons why: Parking: B As is anywhere in the Bay area, parking can be a bit frustrating and not ample enough. Flowerland had about 8-10 spots in front of it to accomodate for the lucky few who got there first. Fortunately, the areas on Solano has a ton of side streets and other areas to park temporarily while you can peruse the nursery. Staff: A Staff was really helpful and cordial. They had a front staff member making sure only a few people entered at one time (only 4 max in the gift shop) and they were pretty strict on this which was great given the COVID situation and showed they wanted ensure people's safety. They also were really amenable to getting our plant re-potted to another size of pot that we just bought there. They were also very knowledgeable. I know people may think it's a given because they work at a nursery, but that's not always the case and it was reassuring to know each staff member was there for the customer and avid plant enthusiast. Product/Variety of Plants: A+ If you came here looking for a plant, the chances are extremely high you're going to end up leaving with something; whether a plant or pot or book, they bave something here for everyone to include acoffe and pastries for those who went here as a tag-along. Also their assortment of plants was spectacular and they had a phenomenal range from shaded plants to full-on sun plants to smaller varieties in all shapes and sizes.
