We tried the pork belly which was juicy and delicious and it was put together in a way we had not had before. The drinks were flowing and our bar tender did great for all of our cocktails. Decided to try Florida Room after seeing it listed on the Top Elite spots this week and what a great decision this was! We made a reservation on a Friday night for 8:30pm - unnecessary as there was plenty of seating at this time anyways. The hostess was very friendly and seated us right away. The server was also very polite and took the time to tell us about what sets Florida Room apart from other restaurants out there. They don't use any seed oils and instead cook with beef tallow - yum! Ambiance-wise, the restaurant was more upscale than I expected for a place that's tied to The Fort (pickleball courts). Inside was cozy and intimate, perfect for a date night or night out with friends, not so much for families with small children. We tried the watermelon and feta appetizer along with two plates from the specials menu: shrimp and grits and a pistachio-crusted chicken. The watermelon and feta was good but I wouldn't necessarily get it again. The two entrees were so so good. The chicken dish was particularly divine and had an amazing sauce with cute tiny delicious mushrooms. Some of my favorite menu items are the smoked fish dip, steak carpaccio, and the Barbequed & Brûléed Smokey Ribs! I don't even like ribs usually but these are some of the best ribs I've had. Of you aren't playing there is convenient parking all the way down on the left side of the main parking area. We each ordered a drink...i went for a coke while the others had diet Coke, a margarita and the cucumber martini. We bypassed apps and went straight for meals. They fry everything in beef tallow so it does limit my options but I went with the Margherita Sourdough flatbread, which was really good! One of my friends had a tortellini like pear pasta I believe...I don't see it on the menu anymore but it was divine! We all took a bit lol! My other friend had the smoky ribs with a side of mash and their mom had the surf n' turf...Everyone was very happy with their meals. I was able to take half of my flatbread to go. Finding this restaurant was not as difficult as most people have made it out to be. Once you turn into the pickleball facility you just follow the signs. And yes, it is among the pickleball courts. Make no mistake though, this is upscale dining. There is indoor seating and outdoor tables by the lake. Indoors, tennis matches were being televised, and there was one pickleball court on display for diners. A solo guitarist provided music. They didn't have what I would label as traditional appetizers, mostly salads and what they deem as small plates. So, we opted to skip those and went straight for the entrees. (I also had a spicy mango margarita that was fabulous. Hubby had a nonalcoholic Yuzu beer.) Our server Kaylee was cheery and amicable, while offering impeccable service. For dinner, hubby had the surf and turf, which came with steak and scallops and roasted carrots. I had the queen scallops that was accompanied by bok choy and pureed cauliflower. Both meals were savory and satisfying. I adored the roasted carrots so much, that I even begged hubby to switch some of them for some of my bok choy. While my scallops were perfection, the sauteed cauliflower did kind of get lost. It was more like a mild sauce on the plate instead of the mashed-potato-style cauliflower I was expecting. We decided to split a dessert and hubby chose the Baked Florida, a version of the Baked Alaska with cake topped with two kinds of ice cream and covered with an intense, sweet meringue. It was very good and enough to share for two people. The portions (I could have eaten much more!) and the prices remind you that this is definitely upscale dining. We started out with the fish dip, lamb rolls and the peach salad. The fish dip rocked and came with a fun assortment of crackers and toppings. After a great Yelp event two weeks ago, I was introduced to this hidden but lively alcove and needed to return tonight. The hamburger smothered with caramelized onions was hefty and flavorful with a side of crispy potatoes and a cold Graphic IPA brew to wash it down. The gender neutral bathroom was as elegant as it gets with lacquered emerald wall tiles with Italian terrazzo porcelain flooring. We definitely had plenty of leftovers for another meal. Know that everything is a la carte so if you want potatoes or other you need to order it. The scallops came on pureed cauliflower (if we had a wish it was that there would have been of the cauliflower) Another in our group had the yellowfin tuna and thought it was quite good. Of all the desserts we had, the coconut key lime pie and the beignets were the winners. If you go- follow your GPS and it will take you to the front entrance of the FORT. You need to make a left and go around to the back of the complex which is where the restaurant is. There was plenty of parking back there on the night we were there even though there was a tournament up front. The bar is huge but empty on the night we were there. The Smashburger and the french fries were really good. The short rib meatloaf was decent. We were trying to decide on a third side item and the waitress suggested the bok choy. However, it never made it out. About halfway into our meal she checked on us and I told her that it hadn't come to the table so she can go ahead and nix it, but she said that it was almost done and it would be out soon and we could pack it to go if need be, so we agreed. Needless to say, the bok choy never made it out and she apologized at the end of our dinner. We did ask for refills on our drinks at the start of our meals, but did not get them until the close of our meals. The service tonight was extremely slow. Maybe we are just used to food coming out quick when we dine out at other spots, but tonight the wait between appetizers, ordering our main courses, drink refills, etc. was very slow and very noticeable. We went with our son and in laws for my husband's birthday and everything was delicious. It's pretty much short rib condensed into a meatloaf shape and griddled or baked, very robust and moist. My husband got the surf and turf-hanger steak and scallops. This was phenomenal-juicy steak and absolutely perfect seared scallops with a tangy salsa verde on top of carrot puree. I had the carpaccio and watermelon salad. Both were fresh and full of flavor. Desserts were the coconut key lime pie and the spumoni tarte. Both were fantastic, especially the tart.
