    Argentina!
    Adam B.

This spot has seen a lot of turnover across the years and now it hosts an Argentine restaurant. Sadly, it wasn't that busy on a Saturday night. The food was delicious though, so I hope word gets out. Vino La Provoleta: If I'm at an Argentine restaurant and I see provoleta, I must get it! I'm a huge cheese lover, duh! While I'm used to an oversized cut of provolone from the loaf, theirs was more fondue-like. The spices and veggies gave it some good personality. New York Strip (Happy Hour): After an afternoon show, got in a little after 5pm and happened upon Happy Hour. It was $45 for a steak meal and a glass of malbec, which seems like a good deal nowadays in San Francisco. The steak was a thin cut, but high quality. It was cooked quick to get a sear on the outside and still be a little pink on the outside. While it won't win any steakhouse awards, it did remind of the thin cut grilled style of Argentine meat that I like so much. The side of haystack carrots was so nice! It kinda tasted like they were deep fried then sauteed. The Brussels Sprouts were seared, so had that nice caramelized taste. It looked a little small at first, but was quite filling. Cuatro Leches Trifle: Why settle for Tres Leches when you can have Cuatro Leches??? The fourth leche was dulce de leche, another must at Argentine restaurants. It wasn't just drizzled on top, but integrated into the soaked milky goodness. So rich and delicious.

The space...the space!! A beautiful French Brasserie...the food is thoughtful and flavorful. The new chicken dish is a star. Get the pork with the prune sauce. Service was lovely and attentive.

A quiet birthday celebration dinner is a pleasure of delights at Flora King. We shared the beef empanada as a starter; La Burra-chopped kale and creamy burrata; $39 pre-fixe of wine, braised pork, rice and Brussels sprouts, finishing with a delectable Meringue dessert. The flavors of the evening are complex and beautifully composed. Enjoy a perfect evening at Flora King! Our thanks to Angela for her gracious attention and to our server for his friendly demeanor.

delicious woodfired pizza with optional additional arugula. They were kind enough to make 1/2 spicy 1/2 wimpy at request.

Decor was lovely, and Service was impeccable. Also check for their lovely happy hour special for wine and cocktails -- they were also very patient as we asked lots of questions about the different beverage options. Dinner definitely did not disappoint -- was delicious and fresh! they have a variety of options on the menu, but are also true to their Argentinian meat lovers roots. We arrived very early and by the time we were done with dinner almost every table was packed before 7:30 which is a nod of respect for this charming establishment.

The new space here where Firewood was has been updated to be more of an upscale experience with a large bar across the back wall and small tables along the front window where there used to be a high bar looking out. The interior is bright and cheery, including the back dining space which has skylights to brighten the area. Service was excellent and genuinely warm. We started with a house made beef empanada, very nice as a shared starter. The Greek Andina salad was excellent! With warm quinoa, drizzled with chimichurri and lemon-tahini dressing, ripe tomatoes, pickled red onion, spicy fresh cucumbers, Kalamata olives, and tangy feta. For our main dish we shared the Barcelona pizza with prosciutto, pear, applewood-smoked ham. This also was very good. All in all a great dinner out, slightly off the main hustle of Castro Street. Note that they (currently) only serve beer/wine. But, their cocktail recipes will certainly impress you...

Great staff, fast service, courteous friendly, family style atmosphere, reminded me of my Mom. Nicoli was very helpful and the all our needs we met. I can't wait to return. Try it! A little Argentino in Castro

The quality is always on point (you get what you pay for) and the process is easy to preorder. The main thing to plan for is the long wait in line to pick up your preorder. In prior years, I've usually picked up on Christmas Eve and the wait can exceed 90 mins to 2 hours depending on when you arrive - this is the case even when you doorbust at opening time. This year, we picked up on the 23rd and arrived around opening time, and it only took 30 minutes. There are also very high quality pantry goods to peruse and purchase, including pasta, mustards, spices, tinned goods, etc. Onto the meat: I preordered late this year so got 21 day aged prime rib roast (would usually aim for 45+ days), but honestly it was hard to tell the difference. I ordered the roast pre seasoned, cradled and tied for ease and it was very high quality, easy to cook and delicious. Shoutout to the very friendly and hardworking staff at Olivier's - I see yall fighting for your lives trying to control that line every year (lol). Thank you for your service!

The restaurant has an upstairs as well. Our server was very nice and pleasant to speak with. Gave us some recommendations on the menu as well as drinks. We started with a cocktail and a glass of red wine. For our appetizer we had the Pulpo, coliflor and Hueso Asado. The pulpo which is octopus was nice and tender. Really delicious. The coliflor was okay. It was a little dense for me. The Hueso Asado was scrumptious, buttery and full of flavor, but half of a bone marrow was too small for an appetizer and only served with 4 small thin crostini. For entree we had the Ojo de Bife and Malbec short ribs. The Ojo de Bife which is the rib eye was delicious and grilled perfectly. The meat was not as tender, but the meat itself had a lot of flavor. The short ribs were excellent! Very tender and scrumptious. I would order this again. They should bring back the beef tongue or Lengua. I heard it is a must try. Anyway, we had a great time. It was a great atmosphere and love the vibe on this place. Would definitely come back!

Let's start with the practical stuff: getting a reservation is notoriously difficult. Your best bet is to go as a party of four or more. Smaller groups should head straight to the bar -- first come, first served, but expect about a 45-minute wait. Worth every minute. The food is the star here, full stop. There is something about the prime rib at this place that stays with you long after the meal. Nothing really compares. The tableside presentation where you choose your cut is a nice touch that adds to the whole experience. Come hungry! The portions are massive. I'll be honest: this is a food-first, ambience-second kind of place. It's busy and lively, so I wouldn't call it an intimate date night spot. Think of it more as an "I want the best prime rib in the city" night. If that's what your expectations are, it delivers completely. SF is lucky to have an institution like this. If you're visiting the city, put this on your list. Make sure to start planning your reservation months ahead.
