Good Persian sweets and bread. Service is somewhat spotty but that's to be expected at most smaller markets.

Armenian bakery with a wide but uninspired selection of pastry. The fancy pastries (cakes, napoleons, etc) are in coolers lining the wall and they look dried out and stale. I'm guessing pretty low turnover on these items... The other pastries are mostly nondescript -- dry cookies and crispy breads and such. The only things that tempted me were the savory pastries, stuffed with beef or chicken or cheese or spinach. I tried one of each. They were warm, so I know they were fresh, but they were still kinda tough and chewy like day-olds. The spinach pastry was the only one I'd buy again. They have a large selection of bulk nuts, candies, dried fruit and candied fruit, etc. I bought a bag of roasted macadamia nuts that looked good but turned out to be stale and flavorless. They tasted like they'd been sitting in the bin for many weeks. I should've popped a couple in my mouth while no one was looking and saved myself from buying a bag that I later tossed. They make a very limited selection of baklava, just the most basic types. The ones I bought were okay, but heavier than I like. They also make Armenian halvah which is made from flour instead of the sesame paste I'm familiar with. I was curious to try it but found it's really just sweet paste. Meh. I did like the Mikado cake that's sold in aluminum trays alongside the baklava. It's dense and moist, with subtle flavors and not too sweet. Unlike the baklava and halvah it doesn't have their label, so I'm not sure if they make it themselves. I didn't have a problem with rude staff like some yelpers have mentioned, but business was quiet when I stopped in so maybe I caught them when they weren't busy and frazzled. I did get some odd looks though. I think they're used to an almost exclusively Armenian clientele. read more

Have been coming here since I was a little girl. I love walking into the bakery and the initial sweet smell makes me feel at home. All the pastries are delicious! Over time I've noticed there is less pastries and goodies on display. Cakes are decently priced and tasted amazing (cheaper than Porto's cakes). Once upon a time the parking for this place was a tiny but spirited battleground where bloodshed was likely at any given moment. They then expanded to a slightly bigger parking area and it just became a slightly bigger battleground - customers are still too slow driving in, too slow deciding where to park, too slow driving out and generally inconsiderate all round, so go to this place on days that you are feeling particularly patient and zen, so you won't be drawn into any arguments. Inside you will find a huge range of sweets delightfully damaging to your health, and of course mostly quite delicious. The various pastries, cakes and dessert items are all pretty tasty. Their mixed nuts are damn great- though not cheap. There isn't much room to move around by the way and the place is almost always busy, so be warned. Since customers are mostly uncivilized, so are the servers. They are randomly irritable, bored, unfriendly, fed up with their lives, indifferent, unprofessional and unpleasant - all the great qualities you would want in your kids basically! But their stuff pretty much flies off the shelf with no effort, so they don't have to worry about improving their attitude, nor remodeling the place which is so firmly stuck in the dark ages I'm surprised they don't still use an abacus... And so 3 stars it is, based on the overall experience that sometimes truly borders on the miserable, otherwise the quality of their products deserves a higher rating. read more

I had to give them one star because zero star is not an option. They are a nightmare; I ordered pastries & a cake for my daughter's first communion that was supposed to get delivered @ 4:30 pm, the Banquet Hall is literally around the corner from them, I called them @ 5 pm to follow up, first, hardly anybody there speaks English, second they could not give me an answer, they asked me to call back in 10 minutes instead of getting the customers number & following up; when they finally showed up, they did not deliver the cake; the people that delivered the pasteries were clueless, I had to call again; I wanted to speak with a manager or an owner, they told me none one is available !! They then called me back at 6 pm as the guests were arriving only to tell me that they Forgot to do the cake !!!! I was going to pass out !!! Mind you I had paid the amount in full to them weeks before, & I had the receipts stating the date & delivery time; they told me they will make it but it needs 2 hours, I had no choice by then, they delivered it at 9 PM.. to make things worse, I had myself spoke with the owner's daughter Arpine, who had given me her cell number ; i had called her several times & left a message the day before the event to remind her of the event & this is what I get .. Bottom line, stay as far away from this please as possible , very unprofessional & rude people ..I did not even get an apology !!! read more

Worst place I have ever been. People are very rude and never greet customers unless you speak their own language. They always talk very loud to each other . It seems like they are fighting with one another. There are always a few flies flying around the pastries and stuck in the pastries display case and nobody even cares. I found egg shells in their cupcake every single time that I shopped from them. I also found a crouche leg in their raisin cookies . They don't speak or understand English very well specially when they have encountered a problem. The owner doesn't respect and treat his workers with respect. There are very old women with a dirty and disgusting aprons working in their kitchen. They all look very sad and scared. perhaps they have something to hide (maybe they don't have permits to work) and the owner is not respectful to them. I don't suggest this place to anyone. If you really looking for a nice, clean , and professional bakery just go to Karina's House Cake like 3 minutes away on 515 South Glendale Ave. if you go there , you will never ever, ever comeback to this disgusting place. read more

Pastries were very good and authentic Persian. It's such a shame that they can't match their well-made pastries with at least average customer service. We bought about 5 boxes of pastries that we wanted to bring back with us to Washington DC which cost close to $60. And we asked if they had some tape so we could tape the boxes and one of the staff members said that a cashier would be able to tape them up for us. After we got to the cashier and paid for everything, then requested to have the boxes taped she goes, "That's not my job. You want tape, you go buy it and tape it up yourself." It was unbelievable. My family and I have been coming here for years. Like some people have mentioned the Salvadorean Bread aka Pan Dulce is some of the best you'll ever find. I'd go as far as saying this rivals some of the best stuff I've had straight from El Salvador. Whenever we are in California we make sure we make the trek out to Glendale just for this bread. And yes, if the person that makes the Pan Dulce is gone, you are out of luck. Well worth the trek! I can't really comment on the Armenian bread, but as far as the staff goes I've never had an issue. These people do not know how to run a business, a health inspection is much needed due to the dirtiness all around the store. Do not stop at the Beard Papa's in the Americana (although I had to try theirs too after being inundated with their advertisements in my Korean dramas)! Their cream puffs are like cardboard in comparison to these... and since this place is just down the street...walk or drive here instead. Yes, it's an "ethnic" bakery... but everyone speaks English and you see all types here. They have some Persian foods (I don't know what... but some stuff) and then they also have Russian candy. I have no idea why... I spent a good half hour staring at the candy and trying to decide whether to buy some for my mom... which I ended up not doing. hahaha. I don't know why...since I agonized over it for such a long time. They have tons and tons of freshly baked desserts here... mini custard tarts with amazingly sweet fruit on top... tiramisu... and just tons of other desserts...pastries... cookies... They pretty much have it all... But you have to have the cream puffs... the light and fluffy cream can not be beat. They are the BEST in the business with UNBEATABLE prices. The quality that you get for the amount you pay really is a steal! The customer service has always been great every time me or my family have visited. The employees are so sweet and helpful! They speak several languages including Armenian, Russian, and Farsi which is great especially for the older generations that aren't able to understand English. They also have delicious custom made cakes which we've ordered for all our birthday celebrations over the years. I can't even say I have a favorite flavor of cake because I've tried and loved them ALL, tiramisu, mocha, chocolate, strawberry, fruit, and the list goes on!
