I am satisfied with the end product--my floors look good. But the abysmal customer service I received was unacceptable, and I would not recommend Floors on 14th to a friend. I was told that my project would take 1 week, starting on Monday. They asked to reschedule the start date to Tuesday because another project ran long, but I was assured the project would still finish on Friday. The guys show up Tuesday and I ask again--will this be complete on Friday? They say yes, and I tell them I will return Friday around 6pm. I stay in a hotel for the week. When I get home on Friday at 6:15, the guys are not there and there is NO FLOOR. It was just the bare concrete. I call the shop and receive a total non-apology, of the "sorry, but..." variety. There was just no possible excuse for them not calling to let me know the project would not be finished on time, but the owner proceeded to argue that: 1) they wanted to do it right [yes, I would like that too]; 2) he would never tell me that the project would be finished for sure on Friday [his employees told me that repeatedly]; 3) the project had unexpected challenges [ok, you should have called to tell me]; 4) it was not yet the end of the day--the implication being that he might have been about to call me at 6:30 on a Friday to tell me that my project would not be done on schedule. Honestly, I was really insulted by his argumentativeness and unwillingness to admit fault. I had to find another place to stay until Tuesday--they would not work over the weekend to rectify this. On Tuesday I received a call to tell me that they needed to order more flooring because they had mismeasured. They hadn't accounted for any of the closets or the entire kitchen--an incredibly careless mistake! I could move back in, but the flooring wouldn't arrive until Friday afternoon. I asked when it could be installed, and was told Friday afternoon or Saturday. It would only take a few hours. I call on Friday to see if the flooring has arrived, and am told that it has, and they're trying to get ahold of the subcontractor. By Friday evening near their closing time, still no word. I call again and am told that they will be open Saturday and I should call in the morning. I do, 4 times, and receive no answer to my voicemails. Monday morning (a holiday), they finally show up and finish the 2 hours or so of work that was left. The whole ordeal took more than 2 weeks. Save yourself the trouble of dealing with this company. In my experience, they are unreliable, unresponsive, careless, and rude. read more

I see a lot of positive reviews and cannot help but wonder how we had such a different experience. We hired Kaveh to refinish our wood floors and paint our newly-bought townhouse. The experience resulted in one disappointment after another. First, the painting was horrific--we had them come back twice to fix their work and remove paint, which they got everywhere (kitchen appliances, sinks, etc.). To do this day, people have noted how bad the paint job is. There are white spots, they painted over baseboards, and, generally, it looks like a very juvenile job. We also had a number of issues with the flooring. First, Kaveh overcharged us from his original quote, by a lot. For example, in his original estimate, he miscounted the steps; a mistake he charged us for in the final bill. Second, his contractors repeatedly left our doors unlocked, and when I brought this up, Kaveh did not seem concerned. Finally, he repeatedly scheduled appointments with us and was either extremely late or he just didn't show up. An overall extremely disappointing experience, that I hope to not have to go through again. read more

Came across town looking for help selecting a new floor for my bathroom. Kevah the owner was barely interested in even greeting us. I explained I wanted a medium to dark gray floor and would appreciate advice. His advice was to point me in the direction of some heavy and somewhat inaccessible samples so I could rifle through them on my own. Not the kind of help I was expecting from a flooring expert. I'm impressed by Floors on 14th for 2 main reasons: 1. Customer services. For anyone who had been through home renovations, you know how many surprises and delays along the way. I had to re-schedule my floor installation with Kevah (the owner of store) so many times! Kevah was always a phone call away and very nice to accommodate with my schedule changes. Kaveh was friendly and professional, as well as very responsive. The selections of carpeting at his store was extensive. Once I narrowed down my choice, he let me take the samples home to make sure the choice matched well. Kaveh came by the condo to measure for a quotation within a day of my carpet decision. We were hunting around DC for the best place to get tile for our kitchen and dining room. After getting a couple quotes, we ended up at Floors on 14th without an appointment and were very impressed by the quality of the tile selection there and the friendly customer service. After a small delay because our tile needed to be shipped from Texas, a very professional team of contractors installed and sealed the tile. Their attention to detail was impressive and we couldn't be happier with the result. In addition to the installation, I think it was impressive that Kaveh was always available by phone to discuss the installation and a couple other services that we added on including temporary removal of major appliances (It's always nice to talk to someone who you've met and knows the job you're referencing). Lastly, it was also really nice to see that the installers returned to carefully reinstall the major appliances once the job was done. Hands down the worst experience I've had, personally and as an architect, with a material supplier in my 7+ year career. The carelessness by which they handled us as customers, our project, procuring the floors and shipping has been truly frustrating and upsetting. Overall it's cost us additional thousands of dollars and a month delay in our project! So many terrible things along the way, but here was my experience: - They came out and measured our floors, some guy that was very unprofessional and careless came to give us an estimate, this came back to bite us because they didn't measure correctly and we ended up running out of flooring half way through the project - They said it would be 2 weeks to get the floor we picked out, fine. The DAY BEFORE they were to arrive I called to ask about shipping details and it ended up they never placed the order for the floors - On top of that they couldn't get the floors from the US so they had to ship them from Germany - Over the next 2 weeks I literally spent 30+ hours on the phone trying to connect Floors on 14th with the supplier in Germany because they were too lazy to follow up and try to get the floors - Upon delivery they didn't send anyone to unload the truck, so we had to carry 40+ boxes in ourselves even though we paid for delivery - The saga continues as we had to stop our rennovation project while we now wait for more floors because Floors on 14th mis-measured All in all terrible customer service, lack of care to actually get the product we ordered and obviously bad communication/logistics based on other reviews. I'm amazed this place is in business, I will do my best to be vocal about their terrible handling of basic business skills. read more

First, I contacted Floors on 14th to schedule someone to come out and give me estimate the guy charged me $35.00 on the phone and said it will go towards the service if I decide to chose Floors on 14th! The guy came to my house to do the measurements had a Bad Attitude No Samples were brought No One told me Nor explained I had to Come to There store To See the Samples! The guy on the phone didn't say Anything but take my $35.00 So three days later The so called owner calls me to say let him know when I would come to the store to pick out Samples I responded to the email for this Saturday and ask if 3pm was a good time, I never receive a response so therefore I didn't waste my time nor had to go to There store! We hired Floors on 14th to sand, stain and varnish the pine floors in our ancient Logan Circle condo. Working with Kaveh and Juan was a pleasure, and we are thrilled with the result. Refinishing is a nerve-wracking process because the look of the floors changes dramatically at every step. The floors installed looked fine. However, the actual installation and aftermath were not fine. During installation, the contractor from Floors on 14 got into multiple arguments with our condo building management, requiring the building to call me multiple times during the work day. When the contractor finished the flooring, he failed to put any furniture back where he found it. Instead, the entire apartment was left in disarray. Finally, the contractor cut into one of our walls and failed to repair it. And when he came back to repair it at my request, he left it in worse shape than when he found it. I recently renovated my kitchen, and Floors on 14th did 3 separate tasks for me - they handled the demolition and haul away of the old kitchen (including all cabinets, appliances and the old tile floor), they installed a new tile floor (about 180 sf), and they installed my new backsplash. The quality of work is excellent. The price is extremely reasonable and competitive - Kaveh beat out the bids I got from other very reputable MD-based contractors by almost 20%. Moreover, he has great selection - i wanted Porcelanosa tiles for both the floor and the backsplash, and i got both through him at great prices. The crew that did the work was really nice and professional, and always cleaned up well after each day. Overall this was a pleasant surprise for me - I have walked by this business on 14th street many times in the past and always assumed it would be totally over-priced just because of the location, but that's not the case at all . Kaveh's prices are super competitive, the quality of work is excellent, and this is one very solid business - i would certainly use them again for future floor work and recommend them highly. read more
