We hired Tim Chavey after a year of frustrating exchanges with the retailer and manufacturer of our engineered hardwood flooring. The top layer started peeling off within the first month of installation and the retailer referred us to the manufacturer, who referred us back to the retailer, and so on. I wrote letters, called corporate offices, went in person to discuss the situation with managers, etc. The retailer and the manufacturer sent floor inspectors to our home, all of whom agreed that there was a problem with the flooring but nothing happened. They came for 15 minutes and wrote a few sentences about the flooring. I kept following up but we weren't getting anywhere. It became clear to me that we would have to settle the matter through the court system.
I did some research and found Tim Chavey online. After reading his C.V. and perusing his website, I decided to give him a call. Tim came to our house and took the time to inspect our flooring very carefully, including using a U.S. Forest Service microscope. He noticed some defects that we had not noticed even though we live with the flooring everyday. In fact, the other inspectors missed those issues, too. It was clear that Tim was very knowledgeable and experienced. He gave us great advice and information. Tim thoroughly inspected the entire flooring, did some tests on the wood, and took pictures. He then wrote a very detailed and informative report on his findings. I then sent his report to an attorney who was very eager to take our case; I believe mostly because of Tim's credibility. Now we are entering settlement talks to have the defective flooring replaced.
I have found Tim to be very pleasant to work with. He is professional, organized, timely, and responsive. He has been very helpful at every level of our experience with him. If our case were to go to court, I would not hesitate to hire him as an expert witness. He knows this industry and his technical expertise is unmatched! I am glad I found Tim and feel confident recommending him. read more
