I did not receive a response, so I followed up again the next day. Then the quote suddenly became $1,250--not including fabric. When I questioned why the price had more than doubled, I was told it was because the chair needed new foam, even though that was included in my original request. I explained that was included in the original quote so I asked what changed? No response since then. I received several other quotes, all hundreds less, with some even including fabric. He wasn't the cheapest either from start. For context, this is a relatively simple armless chair. There are no upholstered arms or sides--just the seat and back so it didn't make sense. If the original quote was a mistake, just say that. Instead, the poor communication and unexplained price increase made me feel like my three weeks was wasted. I specifically wanted to support a local business and had several more vintage pieces to reupholster, but I'll be taking that work elsewhere. My tip for future customers, get it in writing.
