Booked an appointment for my hubby on father's day. Was pretty easy to book online for the time and date desired. $65 seemed like a fair price for a first time experience. I wish they had told me ahead of time that there were different pools he could try. Luckily he was scheduled for the ocean room. I was just nervous the pod would be too much for a first timer. Staff was very laid back and chill upon check in. When you walk in, it's hot and muggy. Yuck. I left with my kids to get ice cream at Ruby Jewel to escape the heat. Hubby enjoyed his float but said even with the pillow his neck was uncomfortable and tense. Other than that he seemed to enjoy it. I had never floated before being recommended Float On. I am very claustrophobic, so the idea of climbing into something that closes around me isnt very comforting. When I found out that this location has floating pools, so no locking you inside, I decided to give it a try. I had a great experience in the pool, it was very relaxing. They give you access to a shower so I was also able to take a long hot shower afterwards. The place feels really clean and the staff is super chill and friendly. read more

I've only floated twice, both times here, and my experience was fantastic! The entire place is very clean and everything you need is provided. The employees are professional, friendly and helpful. If you're unsure about which room to float in, I would highly suggest calling and first. There are rooms with stars on the ceiling and some without. All floating pools are in their own private room so no need to worry about privacy. The only con is that the parking is on street in a mostly residential area. Update-Per the response to my review, there is parking. A very small shared lot, too small to confidently park a full size truck. read more

F - fuckin' seriously? L - look, I am not sure about being locked in a box with just my thoughts. O - okay, I will try it, but no promises. A - are you sure I cannot drown? T - This. Is. Awesome. O - oh my God I cannot wait to do this again. N - now! The first time I heard about this new business in my neighborhood on Hawthorne, I rolled my eyes and thought, "Only in Portland." But then my sister was coming to town and wanted to try something off the wall. I can think of little else more off the wall than floating naked in a sensory deprivation tank. Seriously - a sensory deprivation tank. Think, Fringe, minus full submersion. So, I made our appointments, and all told, it was a bizarre and oddly relaxing experience. So the tanks are filled with just 10 inches of water, about 200 gallons. And that is all mixed with (not a typo) 800 pounds of Epsom salt. How this particular suspension doesn't levitate a person rather than merely float them is beyond me. The first thing I noticed, after getting settled in my tank and getting used to nothingness, was that I had this very distinct perception that I was floating around in full circles. I knew this to be physically impossible based on the shape and size of the tank, so I spent a fair amount of time trying to reconcile what I knew to be true with what I was feeling and perceiving despite that knowledge. I concentrated lots on my breathing because it was the only thing about myself I could actually perceive. With the water temperature being the same as both skin temperature and air temperature, I quickly lost sense of what part of me was in the water, what part out of the water, how much space was between my fingers, etc. But my breath, thankfully, was a constant. And then, I must have been asleep. For a long time. I woke after some weird, vivid dreams where I was suddenly freaked out about being buried alive. I felt as though the darkness in the tank was smothering me, closing in on me. Instinctively, I reached my arms up into the air above me, and I did not touch the top of the tank. This reassured me. I hung out for a few more minutes and decided I was done. I left the tank to shower off the layers of Epsom salt, embarrassed that I was about to leave my float room a good 60 minutes early, convinced that Danni the overachiever had just failed miserably at doing absolutely nothing. But then I heard the music switch on inside the tank, signaling the end of my float. I had used up all of my time! I was actually able to hang out, quietly, with myself for a full 90 minutes. Un-freaking-real, actually. This from a girl who can barely sit through a theater movie because shutting up for 2 hours is next to impossible. I would absolutely do this again! read more

Step one: Travel to a remote region in north-central Mexico and participate in a shamanic ritual involving psychoactive mushrooms and a whole lot of chanting. Step two: Lose your mind. Step three: Score some of those mushrooms and bring them back to Portland. Step four: Book a room at Float On. Step five: Eat mushrooms, float, revert to simian form, rampage through Portland, eat a goat, wake up naked and covered in blood. Yup, that's pretty much the process here. Or wait... maybe that's the movie Altered States. Yeah, that's it. This is that, but not that. It's sensory deprivation, but the modern, non-simian-rampaging, goat-eating, naked-waking type. Well, there may be nudity... The actual process here is much more tame and definitely more relaxing. Book out a room (if you're new, go for one of the more open rooms) probably a few days in advance. Show up. They'll walk you through the process. The tanks are private so no clothing is necessary, and you don't need to bring anything with you. They provide towels, robes, earplugs, Q-tips, ear drops (to get the salt out) and of course the salt water. The rooms are maintained at just the right temp. Each has a shower and changing area, and can get nice and dark, so you can float into the abyss without distraction. With the earplugs in, you can't hear anything. And being deprived of the sensations of light, sound, and touch/gravity, your other senses (basically your brain) are freed up. Your body can relax, your mind can wander, and solid grooves can be found. If your lucky, you can get the conscious side of your brain to wind down a bit and then your subconscious is free to take you to interesting places. Even if you don't go there, your body will thank you for soaking it in epsom salts, warm water, and a lack of gravity for a while. The dudes who run this place are plenty friendly. And they seem to be constantly working to improve the place, up the game, and make the experience even better. And you can tell it's good by how popular this place is. Prime time floats book out days in advance, and sometimes even a week in advance on the highly desirable weekend spots. I've only had one float here but I really look forward to returning. I just need to get my ass in gear and book in advance. I'll surely be back. It's a super relaxing experience. Float On was a really unique experience. Going into the place, they were ready with the appointment scheduling. I came in here with confidence having read testimonies and seen some videos of how the process worked. I came in a bit late so the "Pod" wasn't available, I would instead get the pool. I'm not claustrophobic so either would be fine. I expected some crazy sci-fi like holotube for this but it appeared to be a simple tub. The 'water' you're in is so salty that you absolutely cannot drown. You'll float right to the top. Also; you're naked, they encourage it for the full experience. I laid there floating in absolute darkness for about 20 minutes wondering when the visions or anything would appear. You have to dilate your mind as the feeling of "floating" really takes pure relaxation and meditative state to happen. I could go into detail about what eventually came into my head. Blackness, floating bubbles/clouds, alien species with kinda plumb-like heads... it was really cool. I'd imagine everyone experiences something different. You're in this inbetween sleep and awake feeling at some points and that's where you're most relaxed. I actually had a headache before going on; totally gone after. Stress no more. Over time, the water solidified, crystallized, like a small itch you just need to re-wet it in the float water. To end your session, they quietly play pipe flute music to ease your awakening back to the real world. They provide towels and showers to clean off so you won't walk around with the salt water on you. They encourage you to drink tea or water to replenish before leaving. My experience took awhile, and you may think that 90 minutes+ is a long time to be floating in a tank, but trust me the time is never long enough in these things. I know a second visit would mean I would be ready to slip right into the meditative state to really enjoy the experience so I will be coming back again. *They offer half-off on Birthdays! I slipped off the face of the earth for 90 mins... Things I didn't think about: food, money, hot guys, work, stock market, moving to San Diego, fishing, traveling. What I did think about: "how the hell did I end up here!" I even said it out loud. I laughed. oh yeah- groupon is how I got there. I had no clue what it was. I thought it was a massage. I walked in and was greeted by Ashkahn, who was soothing, friendly and cute. He went over all aspects of my float... physical, emotional, situational, weird. Inside the dark tank I was left alone with no light, sound or shiny things to look at. My mind took a few minutes to calm down. I tried to stay still but moved around and got salt water in my eyes- BURN. I had to get out of the tank and visit the in-room shower to rinse. The next hour disappeared. serious. I do not know if I was sleeping, or awake. I couldn't even tell if my eyes were open or shut. I was just there (I think). The staff was all very kind and helpful. I had some hot tea when it was over and read part of a bizarre book. They had no tip jar, which really leads me to believe that these guys are dedicated and legit. I wanted to hug Ashkahn as I was leaving but resisted. Would I do it again? maybe. Should you do it? definitely. read more

Friendly staff when me and my group first came in. They gave us a run down of what to do and expect then let us do our thing in our rooms. Each room comes with its own shower and they provide some amenities like shampoo, earplugs (so you don't get salt in your ears), q tips and vingear solution (if you do get salt in your ears) and a robe. You strip down to your birthday suit then climb into the tank. DUN DUN DUN. Frightened? I sort of was. Did I feel weightless? Yes. Once you're in the tank, you feel your muscles relax and you really are just floating in the dark with just your thoughts. My only problem is the temperature of the tank. I believe it was heated to 92 or 93 degrees, but it was much too hot for me. About halfway into the experience, I felt like it was far too warm for me and I had to open the hatch to get some air in, since it was really uncomfortable for me. It was hard for me to get comfortable again after that, so I didn't enjoy my experience very much. Not sure I'd ever do this again, but I can see why people enjoy doing this regularly. This was my first float experience and I highly recommend this place to anyone who wants to experience an out of the world meditative session. Besides meditative, it's a great relaxing and tension relieving experience for someone who is pregnant like a whale like me and has sciatica and low back issues. I'm claustrophobic and was a bit apprehensive about what to expect from these tanks. But being pregnant, I ended up in an Ocean tank which was a perfect set up! The room and tanks were clean and the one I was in had twinkling stars on the ceiling. Being apprehensive, it was great to have the option of leaving the stars on at first and then gradually turning them off when I got accustomed to the floating. And surprisingly, having the tank in pitch dark is way more conducive to meditation and relaxation. The post shower experience was amazing -- all the soaps were of high quality. And they serve high quality teas and Soma kombucha there! Way to end the experience! read more

Sensory deprivation tanks?? What in the world!? My friend kept talking about this place and it spiked my curiosity because I had never heard of such thing and I'm always gamed for a new adventure. We researched their website and set up an appointment online for their late night float (2.5 hours for $60). Originally we were going to do the 90 minute float for $50 but the late night is obviously the better bargain. I'm not going to lie, I was a skeptic. I kept thinking...why am I going to pay to float when I can float for free, I'm a damn good floater actually. I like to float in pools at night while starring at the sky, helps me focus and gain clarity. My friend was really excited so I said FINE I will try these tanks out. Arrived around 10:45pm, our floats were scheduled from 11pm-1:30am. The place was very tranquil upon arrival and the staff was friendly. The guy working gave us a tour of the rooms/tanks available and the amenities. He gave us some background on the entire experience and set us up in our chosen rooms. You can't do this jointly, takes away from the sensory aspect. THE EXPERIENCE: Stripped down to my birthday suit, jumped in the shower, stuck in the ear plugs and got in the tank. I shut the tank door and it was pitch dark inside and I immediately laid back and began to float. The Epsom salts really work in making your skin feel baby soft just beware not to get any in your eyes or wounds...does sting...a lot! I learned the hard way, I had to jump out and rinse my face because I accidentally touched my eye. After I worked out the kinks I began to relax and slowly I allowed the experience to work its magic. Music begins to play softly when it's time to get out so don't worry about time....just relax. After a while you don't even realize you're in water, everything becomes the same temperature and you just feel like you're floating in air, pretty cool. Once I got out, I showered, dressed, and went out into their lounge to drink some tea. I felt refreshed and relaxed. It was a wonderful experience that I would definitely do again...too bad I don't live in Portland. I guess I will stick to floating in pools for now. I recommend for anyone to try it at least one time. Tip: Take your own comb/brush...trust me! My hair was a mess and I didn't have anything to help me tame the tangles. read more

This would be great if it were actually as quiet as advertised. The brochure states that "the tanks are insulated against sound. Noise from the outside doesn't reach you." Unfortunately, even with earplugs in and my ears underwater, I was still able to hear people talking in the lobby outside the room I was in for almost the entire time. This made it really hard to completely enjoy the experience and to feel totally present. The staff are friendly and people seemed to enjoy hanging out, but that meant there was plenty of noise outside the rather not noise-proof float tank. The float was good for my low back (which usually hurts), and less so for my neck, which wasn't very comfortable with floating. The temperature was great for me, and I enjoyed that the float tank was indeed pitch black. I could see the experience being good for those who aren't looking for total sensory deprivation, as the noise issue was a bummer for me. read more

I admit, I was a little disappointed when I wasn't tripping balls during my first float. I thought it would be very psychedelic and groovy, and I would see all sorts of fantastical patterns and colors and scenes. Kind of like when you take mushrooms (or so I've heard, ahem), or like when Dumbo got drunk- pink elephants on parade! But instead it was just a nice, relaxing experience. It does take a little while to relax though- my neck would not give up the fight! It was insisting that it had to work hard to keep my head up. Every time I would lean back and let the salt water buoyancy take over, my neck would tense up and try to take over again. But after a few minutes my neck finally relaxed and I was able to enjoy the float. After reading the piece about floating in the Willamette Week, I think floating would be more beneficial if you went on a regular basis (just like any alternative therapy). And I'm just an occasional user, so I'm sure I'm not feeling the full effects. But my time in the tank is enjoyable none the less, and it's something different, so I know I'll be back. A tip- make sure you get the earplugs in there good. You don't want to stop your float in the middle to adjust. And you definitely don't want to get any salty water in your ear. "Enjoy your float," he told me as I walked out. That float enthusiast, and Float On proprietor, Chris, was quite right. The float itself is nice, but the after effects are the best part. I felt calm and clear headed, and slept like a baby with crazy lucid dreams for the next two nights. The float itself was very interesting. The first ten or so minutes I couldn't imagine staying in there for 80 more. I kept pressuring my brain to shut up. But finally it just happened and I slipped into that weird space between sleep and awake. Who knows how long that lasted. I think the $40 price for 90 minutes is very reasonable. But I decided to invest some time instead of money to start out, and I enjoyed my volunteer time and appreciated the option. Everyone who walked in got treated very well. If you're curious, head by and pick up a pamphlet and talk to the guys. Their website is also very informative, I had no idea this existed before I stumbled upon it via Twitter of all places. I had an awesome experience here! First off, I loved the private room with a shower, bath robe, towels, etc... And then stepping into the tub... it was like sitting back into a sci-fi liquid gel. It really brought out the playful kid in me, exploring what it was like to float around in this room all in the dark. I have to say that at times I could hear trucks rumbling by outside and once I got some of the water in my eyes and it was painful, but... water off a ducks back, or whatever came off Keanu Reeves when he was spit out of the matrix... I was able to hop right back in and fully enjoy the rest of my time! The aftermath: I slept much better for the next few weeks, my dreams were more vivid, and my back pain was quite reduced. I just did my second float, and I think I'm totally addicted. Floating is not for everyone! There are many factors that could make one person's experience divine and another's miserable. I won't go into the details of my experiences -- I think its better to go with as few expectations as possible. Float On's website does a good job of letting you know what to expect, and the super friendly people that work there are happy to assist first-timers. The place is clean and the vibe is mellow. Each floatation room is totally private. In addition to the tank, you have your own shower and plenty of room to get ready. No stress. A couple tips: - For the smaller "Oasis" tanks, I think room 3 is a bit nicer than room 4. I haven't tried either of the two "Ocean" tanks yet. - If you wear contacts, bring your contact lens stuff because you'll want to take them out. - Don't drink too much water before your float. It is easy to slip back into relaxation if you get out, but its better to be uninterrupted. - Be very careful not to get the salt water in your eyes. Ouch! Its easy to do by accident -- it only happened to me once and that's all I needed. - Bring a comb/brush, or maybe a hat, for after your post-float shower. They provide everything else (well, except conditioner). - Its nice to give yourself some time after your float before getting back to reality. You can chill out there and drink tea.. I've enjoyed going for a walk. The experience might seem a bit spendy at $50, but not when you compare it to a massage or other personal service. All I can say is OMG!!!!! This has to rate in the top 10 experiences of my adult life! A friend and I have challenged ourselves to trying one new thing every month **with the help of Groupons**. When we saw this deal, we were immediately intrigued. Years ago I had seen the movie "Altered States" and thought, "what the heck....being turned into an ape couldn't be that bad." Upon arrival - we were warmly welcomed, asked to make ourselves comfortable on one of the many squishy couches while our rooms were being prepared. I of course, perused the shelves and the eclectic collections of herbal supplements, teas, books and to my pleasant surprise, found the movie "Altered States" (lol) available for purchase!!!! Our guide showed us to the clean, tidy rooms we had reserved - showing us the tanks, how the lights worked, the basket of goodies (ear plugs, Q-tips, petroleum jelly to cover scrapes and nicks, etc) and explained how to use everything to ensure our comfort. I am not going to go into what happened over the next 90 minutes because, truthfully it felt more like 19 minutes and what was so vivid at the time has now become a muddled blur. BUT the afterglow - !!!! My skin felt amazing and the pain in my lower back that I have had for over 15 years was, remarkably gone! I wish I could say that pain stayed gone forever, but the relief from constant throbbing, even for a few hours, was well worth the experience. My whole body was in a state of heightened sensitivty - I was keenly aware of the light breeze, the blueness of the sky, the warmth of the sun. Then I went home and SLEPT. I had the best sleep in the longest time I can remember. This relaxed state has stayed with me for a few days now... I will absolutely go back to Float On. The Groupon made the session very affordable and they do have package deals for those who choose to become "frequent floaters". I only wish there was one up here in Vancouver, WA! read more

For the first time in my Yelping career, I really don't have words to explain this greatness. Floating is just...magical. You have to see it to believe it, experience it to really understand how floating can chance your life! Yes, I sound dramatic and overly ecstatic, but I swear this place helped me loosen up, tame my nerves/anxiety, and clear my mind. Drug free is the way to be! So basically, in a nutshell, I came here with my friend - who bartered her art for a free float - while I paid. It's $50 bucks for an hour and a half which is a good deal if you compare it to - say...a massage...a therapist...etc. Haha. You get my drift. Don't/can't really get into the details of floating because i'd sound like i'm on crack, but it was seriously...AMAZING. After I got out of the tank, my mind was just...CLEAR as fresh mountain spring water. We talked with the owner and one of the workers while we drank tea, and it was pretty random and awesome. Then, we left Float On and my friend and I were the quietest we've ever been...We were just straight up floating for the whole day. read more

Interesting experience. I wish I would have known there were rooms with blue lights in the tub because I got the tub that's like a coffin and pitch black. I don't like to be in the pitch black dark so I left the tub door open which made me cold then after some time passed I closed the door because I was cold. I was a little uncomfortable with the darkness but once I got used to it, I had a great experience. It was mostly the after effects that made it great! I was in the tub for about 60 minutes and then took a shower to warm up. I didn't mind that there weren't blow dryers. It's too dark to gussy up in those rooms. Plus I went for a walk and then headed home which I'm thankful I didn't plan anything afterwards because I was on cloud nine and so relaxed that I couldn't really focus on anything. I can't wait to go back and this time I will do the tub with a light in it. Since I was so warm on my way out I had a packet of emergency vitamin C with cold water and it was so good going down and my taste buds were on cloud nine too! I relaxed on the comfy couch for a few minutes and visited with the nice staff. Thanks for the experience! I will be back soon!! Oh and women I suggest wearing a swim cap! And don't forget to wear the ear plugs!! And yes they really do have nice soap and shampoo in the shower. read more

Boy did these reviews make me feel better before going to my first float. We've passed this place multiple times on the groovy street of Hawthrone, and it was time for me to try a float! I was intimidated, I mean, really freaked out by this whole floating thing. I was supposed to lay down in a what now?! Are you sure this futuristic pod thing won't just lock me in?! What if I fall asleep? Am I really going to float in this thing? Wait, how painful would it be if the salt get *IN* my eyes?? The guys were awesome and reassuring-plus the customers that were coming in and out seemed pretty cool. They give you towels, robes, ear plugs and everything else you could possibly need for a float. The time flew by and I came out of my float feeling relaxed and in a weird way, revitalized. My only teensy, knit picking, annoying issue is that I was kind of expecting the water to be a bit warmer. For some reason I thought that the water would be a bit hotter than bathtub temperature. I think it's supposed to be at a lukewarm temperature, I think floating works best that way. Other than me being super and ridiculously critical, this place is phenomenal. Yes the concept is super weird at first, but I promise you that it's worth it. Could have been stellar but feel like the staff wasn't really on point. Was told there would be music going in and out of the service. Also was told there would be a green light on to guide you into the tub. We didn't have either so I kept waiting and waiting but neither happened. I got slightly panicked when I couldn't feel my way out of the tub to find out about the green light. I think fort he beginner and for the slightly claustrophobics when you anticipate something like music or light and nothing happens it makes you think about everything you're not supposed to think about in this setting. Did they forget about me? What if I fall asleep in here? Do they know I'm in this room? Am I going deaf or blind? After a few minutes I showered and poked my head out of the door and called for someone, no one was there to help. I walked all the way out to reception and the woman working seemed annoyed that I disturbed her while she was mid way through a burrito. I asked about the light and she said that I was wrong and that they don't have a light on during the float. I said ok, I'm fine with that, but can I just have it on for just a little bit. She said that was fine. Then she followed me, begrudgingly (with burrito) to see what room i was in. However the light stayed on the entire time so I can't say I had the total experience. We never got any music leading us in or out of the float. For advice I would start by not telling not telling the client to expect light or music at top and bottom so that there is no unneeded anticipation. Also should warn people not to get the tub liquid anywhere near your nose or mouth. I learned the hard way after scratching my nose and catching a drop up there. Ouch and EW! read more

I am thrilled to boast, loud and proud, that I now know what a Thanksgiving Turkey must feel like when the chef who prepares it opts to use a brine to insure tenderness and full flavor! "I've said it before and I'll say it again, the best way to get flavorful poultry, regardless of how it is prepared, is to start with a brine..." "A food scientist explains how a soak in a salt solution makes lean meat juicier and more flavorful..." Some of the benefits to remember whether or not you experience an out of body experience or can't imagine shutting the tank door all of the way, or choose to leave the little blue light shining: "...soaking in a bath with Epsom salt, which is high in magnesium, is one of the easiest ways to get a boost." I swear my jeans were looser when I pulled them on directly following my 90 minutes of chilling out in Float Tank #1. According to reputable sources "floatation therapy is very effective at lowering the stress hormone cortisol which causes anxiety and contributes to weight gain." I felt so wonderful, a sense of peace and calm washed over me as I stepped into the lobby of Float On. Whoa! Wait a second, not when I first walked through the doors. No, at that point I was excited, a bit nervous and had really high expectations of what I was about to experience. I was greeted by name and immediately shown to my float room, where a fluffy towel, a robe, some shower shoes, ear plugs, and other little items were neatly set out for my use. In the corner of the room was a nice sized shower. I closed the door to the room, disrobed, showered, then stepped into the large float tank which had a little blue light shining. I immediately laid down and floated, closed the door and turned off the light. Within a short time I felt a brief sense of panic, had to open the door, just a bit and even turned on the light. After taking a few deep breathes, I was able to relax and enjoy, turn the light off, and even close the door. I found that I thought of very little except for how my body felt, what I felt, and what I didn't feel, my legs felt completely weightless. I stretched, I tried different positions, and I generally rested and relaxed. Initially I was concerned that 90 minutes seemed too long, but it wasn't. I had no sense of time passing one way or the other, when I thought I heard music, I slowly sat up, popped the door open, removed the earplugs and gingerly stepped out into the softy lit room. I couldn't resist the urge to check the time, and yep, it was just over 90 minutes. I stepped into the shower where lovely organic body wash was ready for me to use and then rinsed off. After dressing, I stepped into the lobby, where "I felt so wonderful, a sense of peace and calm washed over me..." I look forward to floating again, once a month sounds good to me, or whenever life seems like it is getting a bit too out of control. I think everyone should try it, even you folks who are claustrophobic, you don't have to close the tank door all of the way to get some of the wonderful benefits. I have wanted to float for several years now and just haven't gotten to it. After traveling and resettling and, basically, coming down from a series of peak experiences, I figured this to be a great time to give it a whirl. The facility is really very nice, the rooms are clean and private and well equipped. The tanks are beautiful, my friend floated in the ocean tank and I took the classic tank. I had a very easy time settling into the float after a brief orientation with the tank where I felt all the corners and edges so I would know what I was touching. I found it easy to give in to the buoyancy and was quick to relax. I had a short session of crying, which can happen to me when I finally get to a relaxed state, on the table for a massage, in meditation, or in yoga, it even happens if I haven't been in nature for too long, I also will cry when I hear someone speak a profound truth or if something is really beautiful; like music or art. So really, I wasn't surprised by the crying, it was brief because I then settled into the neutrality of the experience. Talk about a great way to cultivate equanimity! What I didn't expect is that moving to stretch would bring a bout of nausea and dizziness. This really bothered me. I tried breathing and the air was too warm for my preferences, which didn't help. I tried massage, acupressure, repositioning, thinking about balance. I reviewed my food intake - all good and as recommended. I did drink enough water and I even had a comfort break before hand. Oh, well, it didn't subside so I opened the hatch and enjoyed the fresh, cool air. I floated a bit longer and then finally gave in and called it good. My float ended up being about 50 minutes out of 90. The staff are so sweet and knowledgeable and they told me that maybe 1 in 10 can experience this and that if I wanted to, I could get used to it by the second or third float. I had some ginger tea, and that still didn't help my stomach so I am pretty sure I just need to get aclaimated to floating. On my way home, my friend loved it and his voice was dropped from relaxation, he told me of all wonderful things of his experience and that made me really happy because he has been under a tremendous amount of stress lately. I said I may or may not try again... Now that I sit here, I know I want to try again! I believe in the power of floating and I know myself and my nausea and dizziness could be from so many various conditions of my body, mind or spirit and I want to see if it's a matter of getting used to it. Sometimes it takes me a few times to know if I like something, or at least what I really feel about it for myself so I will be back. This past Sat. night, I spent 90 minutes in a "float" tank (sensory deprivation) - no sound except for my breathing noise, no light, etc. Highly recommended - especially for those who can stand to be with their own thoughts for more than a few minutes! I had a Groupon and it seemed like a delicious thing to try. I used the experience to do some looking at what I call myself. In the tank there was a very intimate investigation of what is left after death of the body; re-acquaintance with void and the whole world just wasn't there. Everything was lost and it was ok - I was home. Coming out into the night city street after, there was the instant "whoosh!" reappearance of forms and I was the witness, knowing all of it was being dreamed. Use the earplugs! Avoid getting water in your eyes! This happened twice to me and I had to get out and rinse my face off in the shower stall. Bring conditioner; they provide shampoo. read more

I want to do it again! The next time I visit from Hawaii, I plan to float again. I got Room #2, the tank with the blue light. Even though the water is only 10 inches deep, the support of the Epsom salt is amazing! I felt my body relax and when it did, the position was so natural. It felt like I was physically being supported by something other than the salt. I admit being my first time, I kept on peaking to make sure no one was looking into the tank. Because it is recommended that you float in your birthday suit. After your trust issues are satisfied, you will, like me, fall asleep. it was the fastest 1 1/2 hours I've ever had. I had a great experience and won't have trust issues going in and will be able to may achieve an altered state. i am a 54 year old grandma, so if I can, so can you! Go!!! read more

These guys n gals are the Best. I signed up for their monthly membership program and was immediately called down to California for a family emergency. I intended to cancel and transfer my original floats to my friend. I forgot to cancel and was billed a second time almost a month ago. I called today to ask for a refund for the second billing and complete the transfer. They were totally cool about it! They refunded the second billing despite the length of time and still did the transfer. The staff is always super friendly and the tanks are clean. It is a great place to escape the frenetic pace of life. User tip: it takes a lot of shampoo to get the salt out of your hair, they provide it for you, use it. I'm proud to be a regular at Float On! I've had many floats over the past 4 years- each being a slightly different experience. I always feel better after a float- really helps me manage chronic pain and anxiety. Float On is well-maintained, always clean and with friendly staff. I recommend it on a regular basis to friends and clients! I suggest trying out the three different tank types to find your preferred style. Try deep breathing or meditation while you are in there. Also, pat your face dry before getting into the tank- salt water doesn't feel good on the eyes, so try not to touch your face once you are in! I do suggest using the ear plugs for added sound buffering and to keep salt water out (use the vinegar if you go without). I usually put the ear plugs in before showering so my ears are dry and I get a better seal. Don't stress on the time. The music will wake you up and let you know when it's time to get out. I flew in for the Portland Marathon and did a float the day prior to running. Best. Decision. Ever. I was able to clear my mind and give my body the rest it needed pre-run, which I highly recommend to anybody pre/post workout. Before my float, I was chatting up the lady at the counter about John C. Lilly and her knowledge on floating and his work could of kept us both talking for hours. Drove from the far side of town to attend, made a wrong turn on the way and ended up 15 minutes late to my appointment. walked in the wrong door and the door hit something, like a heater. whoops. i'm off to an awesome start here. the staff was chill, on guy was eating lunch at a coffee table in the 'lobby' area and the other dude was behind a desk. the place was a bit dingy, but i've been following them on facebook and only my schedule and finances prevented me from going in earlier. as ive been following them on facebook i was aware that they just bought the neighbor venue and were in the process of expanding and construction. The room was nice with some functional decor and there were weird pipes and electrical conduit everywhere which added to the bizarre nature of the experience. there's an in-room shower to rinse before and after. bring your own conditioner and maybe some shampoo. they provide some multi-use soap/shampoo stuff, but your hair is so jacked from the salt you'll want somethings stronger! (clarifying shampoo?) My skin gets crazy dry so i brought some good lotion too. inside the tub is hilarious. a great time. after about 5 minutes i was laughing at the feeling of floating around. you can push off one wall and slowly float to the other side of the tank and push off again. that didn't get old. lol. In terms of the mental aspect, it was much subtler than i was expecting. I think i did too much research and reading other peoples reviews that i kind of expected to trip balls, but i did not. your eyes try to compensate for the dark and start applying colors in places there is not, so i did enjoy a little bit of a light show. you can hold your hands out in front of you, even though you can't see your hands you can see what would seem like a halo. it was fun to play with your senses, like a child just found it's toes. what i was expecting was a profound experience but accomplished a laughable good time. in physical terms, WW ran an article on this location and the author's quote was "at the very least it's a blowjob for your body". couldn't have said that any better myself. I've gotten professional massages and paid over $100 for and accomplished that exact same state of relaxation and therapy after a 70 minute float (i was late!). you can feel your muscles elongating in the tub, just slowly turning to pudding. great stuff! i already bought the living social deal for half off and plan on going back with the wife. read more

This is a great resource to have in our town. The variety of tanks is excellent and the staff is very friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. The price is excellent for 90m of float time, and other great options are available for artists and volunteers. I recommend a visit to this business. However, I had one concern that prevented what would otherwise be 5 stars, although it is very possible this is not indicative of the majority of customers. I'm a bit torn between admiring the vibe of this place and wishing it where a bit more quiet/mellow. I'll state at the beginning that this is of course quite obviously subjective. All float tanks have their own rooms with private showers, but there is a front area for staff and couches for "transitioning" after a float, with water and tea available. The vibe in the main area I would describe as playful, colorful, social and creativity oriented. There is bright paint on the walls, a lot of artwork, soap and bath salts for sale and even crayons scattered about for spontaneous doodling. Ordinarily these are all qualities that would be at times desirable and quite commendable, but perhaps not well suited to the float experience for some people. There may at some point be more attention needed between a better balance between the drastically sensory-reduced nature of floating and the main outside area needed by some people to transition to a more objective-centered consciousness before, for example, operating a motor vehicle. In the tank, it is quite typical for consciousness to adapt to the drastic sensory reduction (not elimination) by recalibrating to a more subtle level of operation, and when exiting the float a transition period is often desired to keep from being suddenly shocked with excessive sensory "volume". It's a lot like the jolt of getting into a car after the last person who drove it turned the stereo volume up very loud. Again, this may or may not be typical for the majority of people. I suspect it may be pertinent for many, however. Even if you come to float for relaxation only and not inward exploration or utilizing it as an adjunct to meditative practice, a quiet, toned-down environment provided for after a float may be greatly desired. A great deal of stress is generated by our society by an emphasis on constant "doing", and a float tank can offer a greatly needed antidote of temporary "non-doing". For my own personal experience, I was asked about the quality of my float exactly four times by four different people immediately after exiting the tank room, and everyone was generally quite talkative. Friendly, certainly! But too much stimulation for this floater. I was even encouraged to color with crayons and sample bath salts. Also, even overheard an employee inviting a customer to come back to "hang out" at the business. Diving straight back so quickly into "doing", noise and chatter isn't always desired-- that's what we came to the float tank to get away from! I strongly suggest Float On perhaps considering a practice utilized by Dr. John C. Lilly himself, and encourage people to not talk for at least a minimal amount of time after a float to get the most out of their float experience-- or at least be mindful of it as an option. With a more relaxing, quiet vibe out front this business would definitely get 5 stars! read more

People are friendly. They have great deals on packages for floats. I had a gift certificate and they had no problem finding a time for me to float. They have more of a "in the city" vibe than the other float shops I've even to. A little tip, for forget to turn off the light--I could see through the cracks when the light was on. Oh, and make sure you don't get any salt in your eyes! : ) read more

The 90 minute soak might seem intimidating to first time soakers. I had only ever done 60 minutes before. I can't tell you how much of a difference it makes! I, personally, am really fidgety, so it takes me a while to relax. Then the extra time, i *really* relaxed - Other Worldly Relaxed. It was great. The place itself is great. I love the personal rooms with showers and the privacy to get yourself together. The people are all super nice and just talking to them is calming. And I like that they offer you tea and water when you are done, to encourage you to enjoy the calm for a little while more. 1 tip - bring a comb. I totally forgot and after you shower, it's nice to be able to do your hair. I think they have something worked out with one of the nearby salons to blow dry your hair as well, but I'm not totally sure on those details. I can't wait to go back! read more

My experience in the Ocean tank was magical, intense, heavy, euphoric and a bit psychedelic. I felt like a massive whale (in a good way) for much of the 90 minutes and was super grounded-happy-chill afterwards. For my next float, I'll probably bring conditioner. Also, I will try to do a better job of keeping the salt out of my eyes (ouch!) and mouth (eew.). read more
