This was my first time trying float therapy. It says they have parking available in the parking garage, which may be true but there was a tiny sign that says the parking garage is closed on Sundays and a huge sign above it that says "no public parking." We only realized that afterwards, when the car in front of us stopped us to ask if we had a fob because the parking is for private residents. Luckily there was street parking available. When we walked in, there were two people chatting at the front desk. We weren't greeted until we were at the desk, which I didn't mind but it just felt a bit awkward. It almost felt like I was interrupting. Aside from that I really enjoyed my experience. We were given a tour and learned more about what float therapy is. We even got to see what a different room looks like. We did the "float together" session, which is a giant bathtub for two people. It has a shower, so you rinse before you get in and can shower after you get out. Toilets are outside the room, so they provide a bathrobe in case you need to step out during your session. The room itself was very warm, I believe it was 89°! Which was a good temperature once we were out of our warm clothing (lol). Prior to getting in they do have a few items you can use: ear plugs, some kind of ointment (for any cuts), a head rest you can use while in the water, towels, slippers (you get these at the entrance), and bathrobes. The lights and music are on for the first 10-ish minutes and then they turn off. You are then left with a tiny bathtub light that you can keep on or turn off. The temperature of the water was nice and warm for the parts of my body that were in the water. After you shower/change, they do have a room where you can go in and finish getting ready. They have combs, hair dryers, another towel, and mirrors for you to use. They have 3 sections labeled, so you can use the one labeled with your session type (our was room 3: float together). As a general rule, I do not speak in absolutes. You'd be hard-pressed to get me to admit my favorite of anything--it all depends on the context. So please know that I truly mean what I say when I tell you the massage I just got from David was the best of my life, bar none. Here's why: * I'm a walking ball of knots. For years I've been begging massage therapists to get in there, don't hold back. Hurt me. Anything to eliminate the knots. Every one has left me disappointed--until David. He dug in, hunted down the knots, pushed and pulled my limbs like all who came before him were too timid to. He told me to ice my back when I got home or I'd be sore. That's exactly the experience I was after. * He taught me things about my anatomy. Read my body like a book. My history, my habits--he picked up on it and explained why I do or feel certain things. Today was my first experience at Float North. I had a 5/5 star experience with the sound therapy and float therapy! They were both incredibly relaxing, and I highly recommend! My 60-minute "massage" with Kimy, on the other hand, was 1/5 stars, and that's me being nice. Kimy was friendly, and asked me questions beforehand to see what I was looking to get out of the massage, the massage table with the bolster was comfy, and the tranquil music playing was relaxing, but the massage SUCKED. I asked for medium/firm pressure, and what I got instead was either light kneading, my skin pinched each time she applied more pressure during longer stroke movements on my quads and back, or a trigger point hold on an areas that was definitely not a trigger point. She didn't listen when I asked for attention to specific problem areas of my body, however, she did do a random spinal stretch on my left side only, and now my muscles are inflamed and my back hurts. Thanks for that. My experience with Kimy was not relaxing, and it did not offer me any relief. Honestly it was super disappointing. I should have told her this during my session, but that would have been super awkward, and I shouldn't have to tell a LMT how to give a decent massage, and how to not hurt a client. I'd consider visiting Float North again for the float and sound therapy, but definitely not for the massage. read more

I've had two sessions now where I did a float followed by an somawave session. I fell asleep during my last Somawave session, which was nice surprise since I don't fall asleep or nap easily. Seriously. I already knew Dana as one of the best massage therapists I've ever encountered in my decades as a massage connoisseur, so when I received word that Float North was Dana's new growth, challenge, adventure, endeavor, I was curious and bought a three floats package. After my first float, which Dana patiently and expertly prepared me for, I was ready to follow her professional advice to book my next two floats in quick succession and then follow a more prolonged pattern of a monthly float. There's an affordable package for a membership float that I'll likely take advantage of; it includes a 15% discount on the other services. Sweet! Here's what you should know: --the three float rooms are private with a shower, great smelling soap and shampoo --the tanks smell good, too. I can't describe the scent but it was a Goldie Locks' just right: not too herbal or flowery; definitely not chemical. --the tanks are tall and wide, bigger than Harry Potter's closet bedroom, but TALL enough for me(5'9) to comfortably stand. That's important because I was a bit wary of feeling claustrophobic. --the tanks are smart--you control the lights, including the stars on the ceiling. Music and lights come on at the end of the float time to cue you it's time to move on --the salt water is filtered A LOT between uses --Dana is warm, professional, knowledgeable and energetic. A friend had recommended floats for chronic pain from a condition i have, so i decided to give it a shot. My first float experience was awesome! Dana was very thorough in explaining everything from when i walked in the door until i left, so i felt very comfortable learning the ropes. I felt a significant decrease in overall body pain that lasted through most of the next day, which is huge for me. I took advantage of their massage + float introductory session, and the LMT, Kelly, was great as well. They were very communicative and responsive to my needs for lighter pressure so as to decrease the risk of inducing a flare and was so kind and intentional with their massage. I floated in the Ocean float tank, which provided a really solid float. Honestly, I kept expecting noise and vibration from the parking garage below to creep in, but nope!
