Float North is an amazing spa to align my body and mind. The float rooms are state of the art. The anteroom has ample space for pre-float preparations and shower. The float tank is spacious with tall ceilings and ample arm width space. The staff and owner are spectacular. They genuinely care about the clients and try to accomodate our needs. As soon as I walk into Float North I immediately relax. Dana has cultivated a beautiful space to unwind and take full advantage of letting go of the outside world. The rooms that the float tanks are in are a perfect setup for a pre and post shower and all necessary items, like earplugs, are laid out. The tanks themselves are like mini rooms. The music at the beginning and the twinkling lights on the ceiling are such a nice touch. When it goes into complete darkness it really is light tight and I hear no outside noises at all. It's also nice that the lights controls are right there in the tank with you if you need to turn the lights on. I also really appreciate the get ready room after the float. read more

This is the first float I had done in the states in a long time, and Dana was so amazing touring me around the facility and explaining me different techniques and the process of moving from first float to second and thirds and what to expect. The facility is beautiful, quiet, calm and nicely laid out! The massage staff is wonderful (can't wait to go back for that as well!) I had a great experience at Float North, with a 1-hour float and 1/2-hour on the SomaWave table. I'm a somewhat experienced floater (have been to 3 other facilities), and this was by far the best overall experience so far. Atmosphere/Staff I was greeted by Dana when I walked in, right away. The lobby is cool and calming, with water and tea available, minimalist but comfortable couches/decor, and a real sense of quiet in what's otherwise a pretty busy city block. There was plenty of parking under the building as well. Dana gave me a tour after I filled out my paperwork, explaining the whole process and showing each of the elements of the space, and even adjusting the temperature in my float room, which was a bit high. After that, she left me to it. The Float Float North uses the large walk-in float rooms, which are my preference. It's about 6x8x7 feet, so easy to get into, and I find that it's easier to let go into the experience in a bigger tank where I don't touch the edges as much. There's also room to move around and experience the feeling of the water on my skin, so it increases the range of sensation to have the larger space. I showered and got in, and after about 5 minutes the soft music and starry lights that had been displaying turned off and I was off. I appreciated the complete soundlessness--even with earplugs in, I have almost always heard some ambient noise, but there was none this time. That water was at the correct temperarure and I was able to relax fully. SomaWave Table After the float I was signed up for 1/2 hour on the table, which I had never done before. I was already quite relaxed, so it's hard to say what effect it really had, but it's basically like lying on a massage table with a very deep, constant vibration, sort of like a strong hum, running through your whole body. It was pleasant, but again, not sure of the overall effect. In all, I walked out feeling quite calm, relaxed, and happy, which was exactly what I was hoping for. I wish I lived close enough to go regularly (I was visiting Portland), but will definitely go back when I'm there again. read more

Float North is amazing. Went after my first dose of the vaccine and my arm was hurting. The first benefit I really noted after this appointment was the mental clarity I experienced throughout the rest of the day. I was foggy coming out which to me meant I really rested but the rest of the day I felt more alert and "with it" than I have in a very long-time. The second I just didn't expect: my arm felt so much better!! While still a bit sore post, it was *way* worse when I started than when I ended the float so I was grateful for that timing!! read more

I LOVED my first floating experience. I was extremely relaxed afterwards, an effect that lasted until well into the next day despite the fact I have a fairly hectic & fast paced life right now! Immaculate float center that has the customer experience dialed in from start to finish. Float North is a beautiful float spa with a convenient location (and free parking!). The owner/operator Dana is a warm, welcoming and overall lovely human being who obviously took a lot of time and put in a ton of effort to not only build this space but to consider all facets of the experience. I floated in one of Float North's Ocean Rooms and the lighting, water temperature and cleanliness of the tank and shower is perfect. Amazing float center! I booked a float for a couple of hours after I landed in Portland for a business trip (something I always do when traveling to help reset myself after flights) and the space was beautiful. Dana, the owner (the one in those Yelp pictures!), was there and greeted me as soon as I walked in. She showed me around and gave me great instructions for my float room. The float room was very well soundproofed so with the music off I was able to drift away in my own little world. Beyond my great float, the space is just so warm and welcoming. I love the colors and layout of the space. I walked passed a massage room as Dana showed me around and it made me wish I would have made time for one! I was a little worried about parking driving my rental car to the location but I found a spot very nearby quite easily. I highly recommend Float North for anyone looking to float in Portland, for your first float or if you are an avid floater like myself and happen to be in the area. Well done, Float North! I have received several sessions from Dana. She has an amazing insight into wellbeing. She is very fluid in her movements and the session flows in an incredibaly relaxing way. I have received two massages from Dana. She is very attentive and intuitive in her massage. I had not had shiatsu performed until she performed it on me post hood to coast. I was unable to walk normally due to the pain in my calf. After one session I felt great and returned to my normal running the next week. Which I actually found out was too soon, based on pushing off a rock during a trail run and re-injuring myself. This was much worse this time, but after working with Dana she had me walking more comfortably within an hour and feeling great the next morning. Very soothing. This is a new facility that is managed very well. I've been about 6 times so far. There are very few places in PDX where you can experience distraction-free silence, let alone while having a super-clean and cozy "float." There are plenty of wash-cloths, and the linens (large bath towel and personal robe) are of good quality. For those who don't know, float tanks used to be called sensory-deprivation tanks. But that doesn't really explain the experience and might sound a bit negative. A better term might be "distraction-deprivation pools." Think effortless floating on your back (there are head/neck supports if you need them), in a temperature controlled space, no waves, no noise, no lights (unless you want them), and no interruptions (be sure to turn your cell phone off). Most people choose between 60-90 minute sessions. These aren't the old-fashioned claustrophobic tanks -- Float North offers private rooms with plenty of open space and freshly circulating air above each pool. There is a private shower in each room. The facility also offers a variety of massage therapies. For first-time users, you float (without working at it) because the salt content is super high. The salt can sting so be sure to apply the vaseline (individual packets are supplied) to cover all openings "down below" after you go to the bathroom...and use the ear plugs to cover over your ear channels. On a personal note I would encourage you to try it while you are "clean and sober" as the saying goes, so you really get the feel for this wonderful experience. Enjoy! read more

Float North is a grounded and beautiful float center. The center was mindfully constructed with thought provided to maintaining the quietest float possible for customers. Dana is a kind and compassionate facilitator of her space; carefully considering each person's experience that walks through her doors. She takes the time to listen to her clients and cares about what they want and need. She is very passionate about float therapy, and it shows. I had an excellent float at her center yesterday, and left feeling calm and centered. The Ocean Float tanks she has are superb and offer a spacious experience to floaters. If you have never floated due to fear of claustrophobia, I guarantee this will not be a problem for you at this center. These tanks will make anyone and everyone feel safe and comfortable floating !
