We've used Fleur de Lis for at least five years now to help celebrate special occasions. For my wife's birthday this year, I was disappointed to call and hear that they aren't operating due to COVID. Lucky for me - the owner checks her call log and saw that a regular customer had left a message! She reached out to me and said she was still doing some limited business during the pandemic. She did make my wife's birthday cake, and as always it was a 10/10!! Every family member who has tasted Fleur de Lis has become a convert - it's that good. Got two cakes for my twins' birthday! Liana made an amazing ROBLOX Cake that my son and all his classmates went crazy over!! She also made a gorgeous floral cake exactly as my daughter described!! Not only were the cakes a work of art but they tasted DELICIOUS!! So many parents from the school asked me for her info for their parties....she really is that good! Definitely unforgettable. We celebrated our 5 year anniversary and requested a 5 layer cake, each layer a different color in the shape of a 5 pointed star. We got a misshapen attempt at a star with white layers and 3 colors of icing in between. The points of the star were almost entirely icingWhat a joke! Who can't draw a star?? As far as taste is concerned, 5 stars hands down. It truly is one of the best cakes I've ever tasted. We continue to order birthday cakes from them. The issue I have with Fleur De Lis is this: We ordered our wedding cake through them and were blown away by the various amounts of delicious flavors and their amazing buttercream. However, come wedding day, the cake was crooked... Bad. It was even mentioned to me by wedding guests. This should not have been an issue that I still cringe about 1.5 years later. For all those über-planning brides-to be out there (and of course those that just want to leave the planing in the responsibility of the cake baker), I understand where you're coming from as I've got one of those A-type personalities and I'm very hands on with any project...this review is for all of you and will hopefully ease your planning pains. Fleur de lis Unforgettable Cakes made our wedding so special from start to finish. Not only is the company same-sex friendly, but they made my husband and feel like a part of their own family. Liana and her team were epic in making the entire process stress-free and easy-going that I didn't have to worry about the end result. My husband and I went to the tasting with our mom's (after calling 2 weeks ahead with which flavors we'd like to try) were welcomed with some much warmth. Our tasting was not just tiny slivers of cake, but full slices that made choosing which flavors we wanted so much more easier. Each slice was so flavorful, it was extremely hard to make a decision. After we chose our flavors, I stayed in contact with Liana and we collaborated on the design of the cake. Liana was super attentive to our design options and made various suggestions based on the ideas that we were going for (which all made perfect sense in communicating the ideas that we were going for). We collaborated with Liana for several months and provided her a design sheet which laid out all our design ideas in a simple layout that was easy to understand (shape, color, other design aspects). A week before the wedding, we asked Liana for one final design meeting to go over the design sheet one more time and she was so receptive to the idea. That final meeting was super helpful that everyone was on the same page and further raised the excitement of the big day. When we saw the cake at our wedding, we were in tiers because it was more than what we could ever have wished for. Liana and her team made all our design wishes exactly how we envisioned them. My husband and I noticed so many people taking pictures of the cake at our wedding and even heard some people say "it's a shame they have to cut into it, the cake is so pretty just to look at". Wedding cakes are a major focal point in any wedding and Fleur de lis Unforgettable Cakes delivered to the occasion. Unforgettable is accurate; although I tried. I will never forget my $600.00 Wedding cake that represented the skills of a Kindergartener who used an easy bake oven with store bought frosting, slapped together 3 pieces of risen flour and says "ta da." My Wedding Cake Order was: A White cake with decadent Gold designs ( as pictured in a slideshow they gave upon my 1st meeting), 4 spaced tiers with specific measurements (per their suggestion and they charged me to order the spacers), on a large platform from their shop. What I received on my Wedding Day: A stacked white cake on a piece of tinfoil. No spacers, No Gold decorations, No platform, Missing 1 Tier, Gashed, and incomplete white frosting. In person I went to Billie, the head baker, and asked "What happened?" Billie, who I met with twice and said she herself would be baking and decorating our cake, had decided not to she said. She passed it along to another employee who did not read, (or was not given by the looks of the cake) our order with the very details of the cake that Billie created. Billie said she herself did drop off the cake but did not bake it, decorate it, remember our order, and did not compare our invoice to our cake she was delivering to us that day. The most SHOCKING thing is not that the head baker lied about making my cake. It is not that the head baker never shared the invoice with the person she passed it on to. It is not that she delivered a cake she never double checked by comparing it to the invoice taken. No, the MOST SHOCKING thing is that any place with even the guise of professional standards would get in a car to deliver a product that was not just missing a detail or 5, but was INCOMPLETE as a whole. I will never forget this cake shop, the ignored voicemails before my wedding, the fear that a cake was not going to show up, the anxiety I felt every time I tried to call or show up to the bake shop and was met with sticky notes on the door of their random "be back in 4 hours," notes, or my many unreturned voicemails. I never heard from the bake shop after I paid. I was shocked my cake arrived at my wedding. I wish I had listened to my gut and ordered a back up cake from another shop even if I had already paid $600.00 to these unapologetic, unresponsive "professionals." At least then, I would not cry every time I see my wedding pictures. read more

I'm not biased because it was my wedding reception and I was half responsible for picking it out (well, 40%, no, more like 23%), but this was seriously the best wedding cake I've ever had. The cake itself was BEYOND 5 STARS - it was a multi teired beauty on a white wrought iron triple platform, simply smothered in fresh strawberries, blueberries, and rasberries. So YUM. The cake and frosting were an excellent consistency and perfectly not-too-sweet. The only thing holding back the last star was an unfortunate situation during the select-your-cake appointment, where the previous appt ran long, and even though it was the customer's fault, not the cake-lady's, cake-lady didn't really do anything to try to speed them up, and her pained glances in our direction did not make us feel any better about sitting there listening to 3 humungous women ask to try each and every sample in the entire building. Fleur De Lis seems very mom-and-pop-ish, but this I did not confirm. They are affiliated with the Embassy (Fountain) Suites at Greenway as the one of the bakers from which you may choose your cake that is included with the wedding package, so we weren't sure what we'd be getting. But the cake was a big hit; I don't remember a single person not loving it, and we had to scramble to get the top put away for saving before everybody gobbled it all up. I went to Fleur De Lis last night for a tasting for my wedding cake. The experience was overall very odd. We have been to 3 tastings before this one, and this was by far the weirdest. We sat in a front room with a bunch of fake cakes. We waited 5-10 minutes before the owner I suppose came out to talk with us, but instead of getting right into the cake info, she got all of our personal info first. She asked me if I had pictures of any cakes that I liked, so I showed her some pictures while I explained what I liked about each one. After showing her and telling her, she asked me 'what do you like about that one?' Ummm...I just told you. (ex: Me:Here is a cake I like, I like that it is square and has different size proportions for the different layers....her: oh, ok what do you like about it?). She then set up a laptop computer and played a slideshow of their cakes. I'm not sure why they do this, especially when I came in knowing what I wanted. Also, the pictures were not awesome...the cakes all looked the same, there must have been 50 cakes that were white with red roses sticking out of the layers. It was some serious boring cakage. Also, some of the cakes had writing on them, but instead of looking flush to the cake and professional, it looked like it was piped on at the Fry's bakery (read: birthday cake for a child). So then she brought out the cake samples, there were thin slices of vanilla vanilla, vanilla strawberry, chocolate chocolate, champagne raspberry, and lemon raspberry and maybe some others I can't remember. Honestly, the cake ranged from ok to very not good. The vanilla strawberry was by far the best, and the champagne raspberry was by far the worst. That raspberry filling was atrocious. It tasted chemically or something and the combo with the champagne cake was terrible. The chocolate was boring, tasted like grocery store cake and I'm pretty sure the 'frosting' that was on the outside of all the cakes was cool whip. It definitely was not butter cream and it was light like whipped cream, but was clearly non dairy. When the owner came out (after letting us sit out there for like 15 minutes or so...a very long period of time), we told her straight up we just didn't really like the cake, no offense, but it was not for us. She then told us that they only make the samples once every 2 weeks and we were at the end of that time period. Wow. Just so you know, they charge 15$ for tastings. For 15$ we got the equivalent of 1 slice of 2 week old cake....and they're trying to gain my business? That is definitely unforgettable, but not so much in a good way. So anyway, the owner was gracious and offered us a second tasting if we wanted, but honestly there is no way I would buy my cake from them after what I experienced. PS My brother got his wedding cake from this bakery a couple years ago, which is why I tried it and I remember it being fairly good, so maybe something has changed, or maybe it really is better when it is fresh, but I'm not willing to take that risk. read more

Wonderful, wonderful! This was my family's 3rd birthday cake purchase from this cakery this year. And I must say, they did a wonderful job with what they had to work with. As you may not already know, I'm quite the artist and have been known to draw up some fancy stuff from time to time, be it tattoo design or cake design, I do it all! So I gave them my drawing to work with, and I really feel the cake artist enjoyed the challenge and did that much more of an incredible job of it. Plus, the staff was just overly helpful and nice about everything, I kind of feel bad about how much I harassed them but they never once got annoyed where I could physically hear or see it. One star docked, because the price was insane, I was at least hoping to get fondant with that $42+ for an 8 inch... Sadly, this was my birthday cake mind you, I've had it since 2pm yesterday and haven't even had a slice of it, and plan on doing that as my breakfast. Very disappointed. Let me start by saying if you asked me what I thought of Fleur De Lis after they made my wedding cake in 2013 I would have given them 5 stars. The cake was exactly as I asked and still one of the most delicious cakes I have ever eaten. We even ordered cake a couple months later for my birthday we loved it so much. I recommended them to a friend getting married later this year, as I did to everyone, and after hearing what's happened since then she said she would NOT even be considering Fleur De Lis for her wedding. The first issue was when my mother tried ordering a cake for my grandparents' wedding anniversary. After speaking with Fleur De Lis, everything was confirmed and good to go. Then the week of the party, we could not get in touch with them at all. After multiple calls and no answers, we finally went down there 3 days before the party to discover the bakery was "closed for construction" for the rest of the week! No call, no warning or anything! We scrambled and found another bakery that was able to accommodate our request last minute (of course at a bit of an up charge). Giving them the benefit of the doubt, and dreaming of the deliciousness from our wedding, my husband and I decided to order a cake from them for our daughter's baptism on April 22. We contacted them 2 weeks before the event and happened to catch them while she was driving. She immediately called us back when she returned to the bakery. We explained everything we wanted and she confirmed they could do it and proceeded to get our contact info. We even texted a picture of what we wanted to which she responded. After not hearing anything, we tried to contact them the following week. Nothing. AGAIN! Call after call and we even submitted a contact form on their website which stated they will contact us in 24 hours.... NOPE! Nothing. So again, 2 days before the party we were scrambling to get a cake. So, no I would highly recommend anyone to STAY AWAY FROM THIS PLACE, unless you want to be searching for a cake 48 hours before your party, wedding, etc... Guess I'll be looking for a new bakery. read more

PERFECT!! For the first time, I used this bakery for a birthday cake for my office manager. We had the pink champagne with whipped cream icing. I will start this review by mentioning I have not actually been to the location, but that I received samples of cakes from this bakery from a catering company at a tasting. So, I have no information on the shop or the service, only the taste. And let me tell you, it is definitely NOT worth making the trip to the bakery. I received four samples, White Chocolate, Strawberry Rum, Raspberry, and Chocolate. The cake was light and fluffy, but honestly resembled the kind of cake layers that you get from a grocery store. You know, unnaturally light and fluffy. (If you've ever made a cake from scratch, they are more dense than that from a box.) There is no way this cake was made with fresh ingredients. But, this doesn't matter to everyone, and the taste of the actual cake was not that bad. Also, there are some decent boxed cake brands out there. As for fillings, there seemed to be a layer of pudding, (vanilla and chocolate, depending on which cake you try) and it, too tasted like it came out of a box or a can. My guess would be from a large tin can, which certainly has it's place on a Chinese food buffet, but not on a supposed gourmet cake. In addition to the pudding, there was the flavor of choice for the cake. One was a layer of strawberry jam, which said it was strawberry rum, but I couldn't taste the rum at all. The raspberry was also a jam and pudding combination. The chocolate was the least offensive of the cakes (a majority vote by the two friends I had with me) and the worst was the white chocolate, which my friend's 6 year old son tasted and then made the most hilarious face before asking if he had to eat anymore. (And we're not talking about a picky kid here. He routinely eats burritos from Chipotle with spicy barbacoa and guacamole, which is not something you'll see a picky eater do.) To top it all off, no pun intended, the frosting was a non-dairy whipped cream. Are you kidding me? Spring the extra $1/gallon for the real stuff! You've clearly skimped on the rest of your ingredients, so how about you go nuts on this part. In case there was any doubt left in your mind, no, I did not decide to order cake from Fleur De Lis. If I wanted a grocery store cake, I'd go to a grocery store and probably pay a hell of a lot less. Sadly, they have quite a few pictures on their site, which means lots of suckers have shopped here. It is "unforgettable" for sure. I will definitely remember not to recommend it to anyone. Save your money and just get your wedding cake at Costco, or go to a better bakery if you're looking for gourmet. read more

I'm becoming a cake regular, I adore these cakes! Customer service is great, they are so friendly, ask you what specific designs you'd like on the cake and truly care about each cake. And they are delicious! They'll do weddings, birthday cakes, break up cakes (just tell them not to write anything on it lol) seriously they are airy and fluffy, and as a person who hates frosting theirs is creamy and tastes like whipped cream and butter cream had a baby! I make up excuses to go buy cakes from this place they are that good and worth the 30 min drive for me. I've been trying to leave a review about this place for a while without much success. I keep at it because this place is AMAZING. Not only is the service great, the decoration of the cake beautifully done, but the flavor of the cake blew us away. The story: Our original cake "person" emailed us two nights before our party telling us she over booked and could no longer make our cake. Called around to many shops/people, and no one was able to do it, not even Fleur de Lis. We were not very happy to say the least. Out of no where I get a text where they tell me they thought about us and couldn't leave us hanging. They, Fleur de Lis, thought about us! Not just as cake order # whatever but as people! We were overjoyed. We text back and forth about what we were hoping for in design and flavor. They seemed very open to our ideas and wants considering the time crunch. Then we realized we had never tried their cakes. We had only seen pictures online. We thought well, it will at least look nice. When we recieved our cake it wasn't just nice; it was amazing! Better than we expected. They nailed the design ten fold. But we were still nervous. What about the taste? Turns out our guest LOVED it. Many asked about it. It was so delicious and not overly sweet. It was perfect. We are so greatful to them but if I'm honest I probably would have tried to leave a short "yay you" review just because of their help but with the fact that they were also able to provide a great looking and great tasting cake, I have felt a strong need to sing their praises. It was prepared by Fleur de Lis Unforgettable Cakes (1219 East Glendale Avenue, Suite 26, Phoenix, AZ 85020) and featured a creamy, strawberry-lemon filling with a light, whipped outer frosting. The shape of the cake and the frosting design were highly elegant. Between the baked material, filling and frosting, the cake was just sweet enough to delight the palate, not overbearing. Ok so on April 19, 2013 me and my husband were married. We ordered our wedding cake here. I'm not going to lie the cake was beautiful and it tasted great. I had quite a few compliments and questions about where I ordered the cake from. The reason I am writing this today is because a month ago I had a recent charge to my checking account and it was the deposit check for $50 from Fleur de Lis. This check was a deposit for cake parts that we returned. Anyway, parts were returned but yet my check was still cashed over a year and a half later! I have tried to talk to the owner/ manager Liana, who said she would check on the situation and get back with me, but I never received a call back. I tried to call back today and find out why this check was cashed when I know these parts were returned. She even ventured to say " this has happened before!" Which made me think they have done this to other customers. It's not the $50 that irritates me it's the principal of the matter. After I spoke with her today she said she would have her accountant call me back, but I have yet to receive one call back. This is just bad business and I would encourage others to go elsewhere for your wedding cakes because this bad experience is not worth dealing with no matter if the cake is good or not. I would never recommend this place to anyone for their wedding cakes after dealing with this!!! I am still very irritated with the lack of follow through on this matter and customer service. read more
