I have not been in this store for years and I'm so happy I visited this location. First off, I was greeted by a friendly person who directed me to another wonderful staff member named Keenan. From there, Keenan took a lot of time asking me questions and what I was planning on doing with the shoes. He asked me how my feet felt and did I have any concerns etc. it was exactly what I needed because I wasn't positive what type of shoe I was going to get. His level of customer care was awesome! They have a couple of great, ways of measuring your feet to determine the exact size and width of the shoe that would be beneficial for you. I really appreciated the attention to detail they provided today. I was introduced to a few types of shoes and settled on the second pair because of the comfort level and the support it provided. I was given a lot of time to decide on how I felt about the shoe and even tried inserts. The shoes were pricy but I need the support and better shoe. The store has many other items besides shoes. They provide a 60 day trial on the shoes if for some reason the shoes don't work out you can return them. This is unheard of. I went to Fleet Feet on the advice of a colleague at a volunteer job where we spend several hours a day standing and walking on concrete. My feet and knees were suffering and she said a visit to FF cured her similar problems. (I thought FF was only for runners.) I dropped in on a Thursday late afternoon and was connected with Oscar, one of the specialist on staff that day. He took a *lot* of time listening and understanding what my issue was/is. He then took a scan of my feet while standing still, and another of me walking. This produced a 3-D model of my feet that he used to select three shoes for me to try on. While all three were an improvement to what I was wearing, the third pair felt like they were made for me. Oscar also suggested an insole that would help with my mostly-flat feet, which only made a good thing better. In short, I was pleasantly surprised by the expertise and patience I experienced at FF. I ended up with a brand of shoes other than what I went in for, and I know my feet, knees, and back are going to be the better for it. Thanks, Oscar. read more

I generally like this place and I recently got some shoes that I love. Everyone is friendly and helpful (though sometimes you can't find someone to help if it's too crowded, but I don't hold that against them). One downside is that they don't have a huge selection of shoes, and on multiple occasions they don't have them in the correct size. That's not too unexpected, and they will show you how to order them on Fleet Feet.com, but they will not let you use any discounts (military, local discounts from PT places), which I think should be changed. I assume that's a Fleet Feet policy, but it doesn't make sense and it penalizes the customer for the fact that the store doesn't have the sizes/specific shoe. I think if you order it within the store, the employees should be able to apply the discount for you. Also, just an apology to the employee who was there the other day when my husband and I stopped in with our 11 month-old. My husband tried to convince him something crazy about shoe sizes that I later confirmed was false. The employee was really nice and just nodded along. Amazing running sneakers and customer service! Several fleet feet employees spent their morning out at the facility I work at, helping the community find appropriate running shoes. This made it very convenient for me to try their products and have my feet assessed. I have always experienced difficulty finding good running shoes, however, Kate was incredibly patient and helpful. She assessed my feet and quickly found me the perfect sneakers and running socks. The sneaker provide great support and feel like I'm running on pillows. Before purchasing them, she encouraged me to try the next size up to ensure that I was satisfied with the ones she recommended. The check out process was easy, they offered us all a discount, and then clearly communicated when the shoes were delivered. I have used the socks and shoes several times now and they feel amazing when I run. Unsure if I can ever go back to buying shoes elsewhere. A tale of two stores! I felt like I was reading Charles Dickens today in visiting 2 Fleet Feet stores. First, we had the absolute pleasure of visiting the Carrboro store where Jessica (who is actually their Marketing Director) helped us with multiple pairs of shoes, insoles, compression socks, massagers, and apparel. She spent a good hour with us when they were already quite busy. She was incredibly knowledgeable and did a foot scan and fitting. She was thorough, friendly, attentive and helpful. One of the best customer service experiences I've had in recent memory. When we were finishing up, there was one pair of shoes we wanted that were in stock in their Durham store. Jessica called over to verify they would hold the style and size for us. Right before we left, we added some insoles at the last minute, and Jessica offered to custom cut them but we decided we'd just do that when we got to the Durham store. Sadly, that is when the tale changed dramatically. Walking into the Durham store we asked about the shoes we had on hold. They all said they had not received any call about the shoes and looked bewildered and put out. Finally we clarified more and they went "oh yes, those shoes!" In a tone that implied we hadn't given them enough information, which was weird, but not rude. But rude soon reared it's head in the form of Duncan, one of the store clerks. He found he shoes and said "did she tell you these were in a narrow width?" It turned out they fit fine. We then said that Jessica had indicated we could have the insoles cut here. When we said this he kinda looked at us funny and said "why didn't you just have them cut over there?" in an annoyed tone. When we explained (which I am not sure why we owed Duncan an explanation, but whatever) he said "well who was your sales person over there.....well they should have NEVER let you out of the store without cutting those for you first". Again we explained the circumstances and said, "well can't you cut them?"and he said "well of course!" in a pretty disingenuous tone. The strange part was that the Carrboro store was SWAMPED yet Jessica treated us like we were the only customers in the store. In the Durham store it was virtually EMPTY and Duncan acted like we were a real bother. So 5 stars to Carrboro and Jessica. She is the epitome of why people come into brick and mortar stores to buy. Durham and Duncan are the antithesis - his poor service is why stores lose business to online shopping. I will post this also on the Durham site. The moral of the story - if you are planning to visit Fleet Feet and you expect to need service, avoid Durham and go to Carrboro. If it is a pretty simple transaction like picking up some apparel or energy gu or something, Durham is probably fine. read more

Fleet Feet was pretty much what I expected it to be and more. A friend of mine recommended this place since I had been having trouble/discomfort with my last pair of running shoes. I walked in and was greeted at the door. A moment later, someone walked up to me and asked what I was looking for and how could they help. Normally, I don't like people who are pushy and trying to sell things, but this person was different and really seemed to want to help (not just try to sell me things). Having no idea what type of shoe I wanted or really where I should start I took him up on his offer to do the holistic process where my feet were measured and observed my walk. The person who greeted me at the door seemed to be in training and the actual associate who did the process really was knowledgable about what I needed and was really great at keeping me in the process of selecting a shoe (not just throwing shoes at me and upselling the most expensive). As a not so experienced runner, the service was excellent! Not going to lie, a lot of the details and mechanics he was telling me about the different types of shoes went over my head but he was great at picking out three pairs and having me try them out with a test run (they have a track in the back where they watch you run and you can assess whether you like/dislike them). The staff went above and beyond and I really appreciated it as someone who didn't really know what to look for. I also liked that it was really laid back and an enjoyable experience. I definitely didn't feel pressured to buy anything which is always a plus when I'm out shopping anyway. It is really obvious that their staff is knowledgeable and experienced. They also have trainings and pub runs, which is something I'll definitely look into. Price-wise it is expensive but I think its worth it, really depends on what you want to get out of your shoes. read more

I would like to recognize an employee by the name of Kristin (spelling of the name?) from the Corporate Office in North Carolina who assisted me with a return of a pair of Brooks shoes that did not fit correctly and it would be 70 miles of driving to return them to the shipping Fleet Feet store. Kristin had a very positive attitude and agreed regarding driving to the store at that distance. I tried wearing the shoes for a couple of weeks daily and the arch was too aggressive which caused my legs, feet, and back to have pain. Kristine took the proactive approach to assist me with a shipping label for returning the shoes and refunding the amount of the purchase to our credit care. I will surely check on other types of shoes with a less aggressive arch to meet my needs at Fleet Feet, especially after my plantar release surgery on the right foot. Please thank Kristin for a job well done and she is a real asset to the Fleet Feet Organization regarding customer satisfaction processes. read more

A very underwhelming and not helpful experience. I went in wanting to potentially purchase insoles due to foot pain. I explained what I was experiencing and while one dude said "well, I could recommend insoles or I could recommend a different pair of shoes but I can't guarantee anything would work and we aren't here just to sell you things." (But aren't you? If I'm specifically asking?). Another dude just stared at me through the whole conversation. He didn't even point me in the direction of the insoles or give further suggestions, the conversation just stalled. It seemed like because I wasn't in spandex and wasn't discussing running with them they could've cared less about how to help me. Would not recommend. read more

I went to Fleet Feet today to get new running shoes. As soon as I walked in the door someone was there to greet me. Normally I don't like to be bothered when I shop but when there is something specific I need I don't mind and like when they are ready. I said I needed new running shoes and she was ready and asking all the right questions. She fitted me and brought out a few different pairs to try out. In the store they have a small track to try the shoes out on. It is down a hallway so you don't have people watching you which is a plus. I ended up finding a pair which I think I will enjoy along with a pair of orthotics. I spent more money than originally intended but if I have any problems I can email them for help. The store itself is very bright and open. I enjoy the clean and open feel of it. They sell many different brands and the staff is very knowledgeable. I personally like them just for the fact they sponsor Girls on the Run. I would recommend this store to all runners in the area. read more

Fleet Feet has what you need for the endurance trainer in you! Most notably - they have people there who will spend time with you to make sure you get the right product. Try out Honey Stingers if you haven't yet - they are fantastic and FF has them all right there! I really love that they have a community base around the store, and that everyone there is very willing to help you. When I first moved here, I was really wanting to join in some running or triathlon groups, and I got a wealth of recommendations from this place. I'm currently partaking in their No Boundaries running group, and I have to say - its been pretty fun! Its a great way to meet the locals, and I always love being able to shout out encouragement to the group. The lead, Natalie, is very fun and charismatic, and that definitely helps when you are about to run 3 miles. Another thing that I think is cool? They love hearing suggestions! I was looking for a swim bundle (which has things like flippers, buoys, paddles and swim caps), and while they didn't have one, the employee I was speaking with thought it was a good idea. I have to bump this up to 5 stars after the experience we had. My daughter runs cross-country and we purchased a pair of shoes. She ran about 50 miles and her feet starting to get numb and affect her performance. We went in to get some advice and buy another pair or some inserts never expecting that they would take them back! But they did and she (wish I could remember her name) was very helpful in finding a pair as well as an insoles that could help. My daughter's running has improved since then. This is a decent running store which unfortunately is about the only one that you'll find in the area. They have a staff that will help you figure out what shoe is best for you by watching you walk and all that stuff, so it's a good spot to go if you're looking to put in a lot of miles on a pair of shoes. Their prices are about standard msrp, so don't come here looking to get a discount and their clothing selection is a little small which was disappointing. The best thing about this place though is the customer service by far. They're really friendly and really willing to help though I'm sure some people may find them a little intimidating. From my view as an experienced runner, I think this store is great for someone who is serious about running and looking for good running shoes. As with most running stores, the prices here are a bit higher than can be found elsewhere for a given shoe. However, I still find it worth it to shop at running shoes given the large selection and general quality. From experience, I testify to the tremendous importance of choosing the right running shoe for you and so it's an expense worth taking. I had a great experience at Fleet Feet - thanks to our community manager for bringing it to my attention via her awesome review! My only qualm about visiting Fleet for new running shoes was the location - I'm in Cary, NC. But, I was happy to see that while in Carrboro, it's practically in Chapel Hill, so not that far out. I was greeted at the door and promptly met with a shoe 'expert' to help me out. We talked about what I wanted and what I liked about my current running shoes. They measured both of my feet, and observed me walking barefoot to see what, if anything they might need addressing in terms of form and fit. They brought our three pairs of shoes for me to try, and offered to let me try them on with a pair of synthetic socks (which I ended up purchasing although didn't have to.) Tried each of them on and again did the walk, all the time sharing feedback with the sales person. Turns out I had similar problems with my heel - pain after running, so she had some good tips for me and also validated my buying process and decision. I also picked up a pair of specialized shoe inserts to replace the stock ones. I should mention that I did the test walk with these on the pair of shoes I ultimately decided to buy. They were then cut custom to fit the shoe, and I was good to go! I've only a single chance to run with these puppies, but it was a great experience - almost as good as shopping at Fleet Feet Sports. I'm also going to guess that is was my first experience having a UNC CH Graduate Student to help me pick out shoes! read more

I tend to get really bad shin splints if I'm not careful, the product of a crappy running style and years of neglect. Fortunately, I happen to live with a triathlete who pointed me to Fleet Feet. Their customized shoe making is like nothing I've ever seen. It's fascinating to see all of the attention to detail that they put into things, all the way to examining the soles of your old shoes. As a result, the product you get is tailor made (cobbler made?) for you. My shoes from them are ridiculously comfortable. And guess what? No shin splints! My only complaint is that the process is very involved and takes a lot of patience and money to get the most out of. Contrary to these other reviews, I wouldn't advise this place for beginners out for a cheap shoe... These guys are serious about running and their customers should be too. read more

Fleet feet checks all the boxes for a high end running store - great selection, very knowledgeable staff, and I have had great luck with shoes I bought there for the most part (came home with 2 different sizes once...was not a problem to sort out). They have a little track inside where they can watch you run to see if you pronate or other things about your running to get you fitted up. Yes, very pricey shoes as well as the other goods...on shoes you are paying for the expertise and the convenience of a perfect fit after a few pairs, or maybe on the first try (my daughters and I love being able to find shoes that fit quick)! if you are price conscious look for a sale or go elsewhere for your running socks or shirt. The thing I LOVE about FF is the training programs, they have so many. Great fun, great advice (guest visits from PTs, reps from many running companies talking about hydration, race strategy, workouts, etc), camaraderie all for a very reasonable price which is refreshing. read more

The new location is amazing. It is bright, light, spacious, inuitive, comfortable and all with a local flair. The shoe selection is spot on. They carry the best shoes from all the major serious brands, with plenty of selection for size (but don't buy on color!). The selection includes trail, racing, spikes, minimal, neutral, guidance, cushioning, bright colors, walking, kids', I think there are even flip flops. Best brands represented would be Brooks, Saucony, Nike, New Balance, Asics. There is an amazing selection of apparel now. There is men's, women's and childrens. Some tri stuff and an improved swimming selection. I love the fact that they carry Craft apparel. Especially in the women's section they pick some of the cutest and most useful pieces you need or want. They can also fit bras for low to high impact and make recommendations if you have any problems. The accessories selection includes recovery tools, nutrition, safety, Garmin watches, cold weather gear, compression, more nutrition (they have a really good selection), socks (Yeah Balega!), bumper stickers, books.... Every time you go in there, whether you are a beginner looking for help and motivation or a serious runner and racer, you will find something to fill your needs or keep you happy! They have changing rooms and ample parking! Now that all that is said, the BEST PART IS THE CUSTOMER SERVICE. These guys are just wonderful people who are so willing to invite you into their shop, the running culture, and Carrboro community. If you are in the shop you are a friend to them. Do not fear the upsell here - they are knowledgable people who want to help you succeed in your goals, not worried about the dollar sign. Don't be afraid to go in and strike up a conversation.
