Julian's is very Old South, and very Carolina. Most locals know that Julians is responsible for designing the signature argyle pattern that appears on the Carolina Basketball uniforms, as well as outfitting every Carolina Coach since Dean Smith. Julian's attention to high fashion with a unique southern twist is flawless. The store (recently move across the street to where Rugby once was) is well stocked with suites from sear sucker to black, shirts of every pastel variety and your latest in bow tie or neck tie fashion. Though it's Franklin Street location might suggest otherwise, this shop is certainly not catering to the college student's needs or budget. Prices are through the roof, which makes it more of a window shopping experience for most. At times I've felt that the staff was stuffy and too high-brow for my taste. Julian's offers a high quality product that is a reflection of the old southern tradition that is alive and well in the Tar Heel State. Sifting through the bow ties and cumber buns is fun even if your wallet doesn't allow for the purchase. And if you can afford this brand, it's certainly top of the line. Julian's is distinctly Carolina and worthwhile on every Franklin Street shopping trip.

It's a proper place to get a tailored bespoke suit....too bad it's missing the bourbon, cigar, and that boys club vibe.

The selection at once both classic and lively (I think its called "Modern Traditional" - think seer sucker and Vineyard Vines) The staff is approachable and reasonably helpful.

They actually have some nice clothes…read morebut if you are thinking of shopping here - DO NOT work with Hunter (tall guy, dark hair, beard, & glasses). I purchased a new suit for an upcoming wedding. When I picked the suit up it had 2 chalk marks on the sleeve. I pointed it out and Hunter said he would steam it out. He returned with the suit in a garment bag. When I got home I took it out and there were now 2 black marks where the chalk marks used to be. I returned to the store the next day and showed it to Hunter and he said it would come out once it was drycleaned. Honestly, I was shocked he didn't offer to have it dry cleaned. I just spent $1000 on a suit, shirt, tie, etc and he told me I would need to take it to get it dry cleaned. So before I wear the brand new suit I just purchased from you, that you marked up, I have to pay to have it dry cleaned? He said "yes". I asked to speak to the manager and fortunately the manager had enough customer service acumen to do the right thing and save some future business. So, avoid Hunter at all cost - ask for Ben instead. (I originally worked with Ben but when I returned for the fitting Ben was on vacation and due to the timing of the wedding I coudn't wait for him to return - unfortunate for me). P.S. After the shirt I purchased was tailored one sleeve was longer than the other. I get it - those things happen - but Hunter seemed absolutely lost when it came time to measure the sleeve to be adjusted and stuck a pin in the cuff of the shirt multiple times before he even acknowledged he probably shouldn't be doing that.

One of the owners ended up helping us out and he was fantastic. Great customer service--not pushy, but they definitely know what they're talking about and are very helpful. They also provide free tailoring when you purchase any of their suits. Although I do not wear men's suits myself, I'd highly recommend this business to anyone who is in need of a new suit or men's dress wear. They also sold a selection of shoes and more casual items, so it's worth stopping in regardless of what you're looking for. Be sure to support this great local business!

Nadia, Ryan, and the rest of the staff are truly amazing in terms of their warmth, intelligence, and exceedingly good taste. They are committed to keeping loyal customers who are happy and keep returning, as opposed to strong-arming you into buying something that you will fall out of love with soon after purchasing. The clothes are very high quality and you will pay for the quality. Because of that, I initially thought I would be getting one or two "special" shirts to add to my wardrobe. But then I found these were the only two shirts I wore. They were comfortable, great patterns, a modern fit, and went well with a wide variety of other pants, sweaters, jackets, etc. (The staff are wonderful at suggesting ways to get multiple looks or outfits out of a few pieces, making things much more economical.) I've since bought (or was given) shirts, pants, and jackets. They've all been outstanding. And after several longer trips (including one to Europe), I've come to appreciate how well-suited V&V clothes are for travel: lightweight, durable, easy to hand wash and drip dry, and hip. Give them a try. Worst case, you'll end up spending some time with the delightful staff in a beautiful store right in our neighborhood. Best case, you'll leave with a piece or two that will become a staple for you, whether you're at Fullsteam, the office, or in Bavaria.
