The store is clean compared to Uptown and the service is prompt. These being the 2 reasons the review adds 2 stars. Otherwise it is a massive waste of time to come here to sell clothes. Clothes in perfectly good condition (some with tags) are being rejected here as they are very "choosy about what they accept"! Maybe they should have a list of brands they will NOT accept, as they rejected gently used (and new) brand clothing like Loft, J Crew, Talbots, Buffalo etc. Such a waste of my trip. read more

After three tries, I would not recommend attempting to sell clothes to this shop if you are an older women. I took a bag of work and dress clothes there in June and was asked to come back in August since most were Fall/Winter clothes but was told that there were some "nice things". They did buy a dress, shirt and scarf and gave me less than $10. I took the same bag of clothes on a Thursday in August and was told they had "run out of cash" if I wanted cash in exchange for clothes and suggested that I come back early the following week. I returned on a Monday right after they opened and they returned everything except a few items worth $10. read more

I've been a customer of this store for the past 6 years. I loved the store, and always recommended it to my family and frieds. However, in the past year or so, the environment of the store changed. The service is very poor, and a few employees, including the one in charge, are rude. I sold to the store in the past, and had no complaints about their policies or attitudes. This year I didn't have a good experience. Today was the last time I shopped at that store. I will also discourage all my friends and family from coming back there. After I expressed dissatisfaction with the return issue, they passed on all my items that I offered for sale. They stated they weren't seasonal. They were all summer and beach clothes. It's July 1st, by the way. Last time I used the option for them to donate my items that they passed claiming they weren't seasonal. My assumption was that when I donate the items, they would go somewhere for people in need. Nope, the next time I came back, all my donated items were for sale. I wanted to sell some of my lightly worn clothes that I no longer wear. I checked the website to see if I needed to make an appointment. There was nothing on the website saying that an appointment needed to be made and was told that they could only look at half of what I brought because I didn't make an appointment. Very frustrated and will not be coming back to buy or sell. The store was not busy. There were several clerks and nothing on the shelves behind the counter to go through. While I do love Clothes Mentor for it's selection when buying (everything is great condition and on-trend!), I didn't love my last experience here. Selling is always annoying because they're so picky (as I said, good for the buyers!). I called ahead to make sure they weren't slammed with people trying to sell, and I went in after work one day. The store was basically empty except for two salespeople, maybe one other customer, and myself. The salesperson who checked me in wasn't super friendly, just asked me "Sold with us before?" in a bored voice, but whatever, I tried not to take it personally, even though I'm used to nicer service than that. As my time in the store went on, the salespeople were really loud and unprofessional. I tried to ignore their really loud conversations and laughter, but when the two people in question are looking at your items and seeing whether or not they can be sold in the store, you can't help but take it a little personally when they are CACKLING. It almost hurt my ears. I almost went over and said something to them because I didn't want to spend all evening there, and they clearly weren't doing anything other than looking over my items and socializing. I finally went over and stood by them, hoping they would hurry up the review process so I could get going. In the end, I didn't regret going in. I got a nice new wallet with my store credit and decluttered a bunch of accessories from my house. But the experience could have been a little better. read more

Terrible place, my poor wife left work early to try to see some clothes, got there well before four, waiting in line a long time for the staff, then it became after four. Despite explaining the difficult situation there was no working with them. Another person we talked to was there the day before when they were supposed to be open, also turned away. FINALLY! A place, nearby, with a great location, a well-maintained interior, and a GREAT selection of clothes for the young professional at low prices. Seriously, I'm a big fan of consignment stores because the MSRP prices and even the sales prices just don't make sense to me. Here's a place with everything I wear for under $20. For those of you familiar with the area's Plato's Closets, that was my initiation to great consignment shopping. Plenty of jeans, skirts, shirts, shoes and accessories at cheap prices. But when I aged out of Plato's: "I'm sorry ma'am, but these aren't in the last year's styles" because I'm not dressing like an 18-year-old anymore, I thought all was lost. Instead, I found this place! The ENTIRE store is dedicated to young women's style. Bonus: not NEARLY so crowded as Plato's, nothing in the disarray, and plenty of dressing room slots. There was even someone staffing the dressing room taking clothes I was finished with! Practically a boutique! But where this place really shines is the selection. They've got plenty of dress slacks for work, cute blazers and professional blouses. Also racks of billowy dresses, and even dedicated petite sections in each size! For someone with very specific sizing requirements, this is a godsend. My favorite is that they have low-cost jewelry NEW, not just used items. If I recall correctly, most items were $5. If you've never been to a consignment store, here's the other reason they're amazing: you can try on cuts of clothes from EVERY designer store in one place. It's stores like this that help you find the perfect cut of pant, or the blouses that fit your bust the best. Everything's always in style, but with huge variety. In short, if you're a cost-conscious shopper like me, and you aren't cut like the average mannequin in each store, this is the place for you. Every time I come here, it's usually a hit or miss on finding what I am looking for. They have some great products and they display them well! I never feel like this place is cluttered or has clothes that are not worth purchasing. Be sure to follow their social media because that's how I am able to find what I am looking for. Make sure you take time to really look through the store because you may miss something good. Along with purchasing clothes, I have sold some of my own clothes too. They always give a reasonable price for my items, so I am not mad about that! I will continue to shop here :) read more

I brought in 2 bags of brand new/very lightly used clothing and was told I would receive a text message giving me more info. I never received any text, so I called the place and they informed me that they (supposedly) didn't want my clothes, so they donated them without ever informing me. They also got rid of the bags I brought my clothes in, which I specifically asked about being returned to me when I brought them in. They offered me no explanation or apology as to why I didn't receive a text or for getting rid of my bags and offered me no compensation whatsoever. I had clothing, such as a brand new (tags still on) Express blazer that retailed for over $100, yet they didn't want anything? Convinced that they took my clothing and never contacted me so that they wouldn't have to give me any compensation. Extremely disappointed as I have regularly shopped here. read more

Purchased a pair of sneakers online for in store pick up. The shoes were originally $40.99 when I got home I noticed that the sticker on the bottom of the shoe had $36.99. I immediately reached out to the store via Instagram and an associate told me that sometimes things are priced higher online than in store and offered me a $5 coupon. This was absurd because most stores are cheaper online (because there's no over head). Also begin a former employee I knew that wasn't the pricing structure and I knew that the $5 coupon was off a future purchase. I declined because after this incident I do not plan on shopping there any longer. A few days later, the manager got involved and called it a "bit bizarre" that I said that I was cheated when they offered me a refund of $3. As you can see in the screen shots. No one ever offered me a refund of $3. Just the $5 coupon on a future purchase. The manager stated as you can see that after they price the item, they have no control over the price increasing. It's funny how their software "magically" increases prices in their favor. I'm which I will be reporting to the FTC. After insulting my feelings, she then offered a full refund in which I declined because of her rude behavior and also because I live 1 hour and 15 minutes away. That place is full of liars. I will NEVER PATRONIZE THIS PLACE EVER AGAIN!! THEY HAVE BEEN IN THE WHOLE AND WILL CONTINUE TO STAY THERE. read more

Clothes Mentor is a great addition to the area! I always seem to find something cute and designer for reasonable prices. The store is small, but there's a lot to look at. This is a shopping experience where you really have to take your time, as there are a lot of hidden gems within the seemingly overwhelming racks. I've only sold to this place once, and personally I'm not a huge fan. I sold them a brand new Banana Republic coat purchased originally for $100. They gave me $7 in return. Needless to say, shopping here is a lot better than trying to sell your stuff here. read more

There's no need to go shopping at the mall, because every time I come here I find tons of awesome pieces from great brands (Madewell, Lily Pulitzer, J Crew, Banana Republic, etc) at INCREDIBLE prices. The clothes are in wonderful condition, and I like that they sell clothes that are appropriate for adults- a lot of resell stores seem to cater more to the teen crowd, but Clothes Mentor has all kinds of professional and casual clothes for adult women. I use to love this place when it first opened back in 2014. Being a thrifty women in my 30's, CM became one of my go to's for upscale name brand items. In the beginning, I would walk out of here with several Ann Taylor dresses, a couple nice H & M winter coats, a few pairs of lucky jeans and so on. Over the years, this place has become nothing more than a Plato's Closet or Goodwill. Half the items are no longer name brand and their tout of on-trend or classic/timeless clothing is not the case. On my last visit, I stopped in around four on a weekday and walked out with an $8 skinny belt from the Gap. During this visit, I listened to the 3-4 women working behind the counter talk about customers and the items they brought in to sell. Clearly, the employees are keeping the good items for themselves. I have brought in several bags of clothes to sell over the years and they have been willing to take many items. To give you an idea of the money to can expect, I sold them a Free People sundress last year and they gave me $8 for it. I am no longer impressed with their stock and with apps like thredup and poshmark I doubt I'll return to CM. If you are a high school or college female I could see them being a useful closet option. If you are over the age of 25-26 and looking for fashionable clothing and accessories I wouldn't waste your time. read more

This has quickly become my go to place. The quality of the clothes is far far superior to other "used" clothing stores. They are pretty selective I think as to condition and style. The racks a so well organized and as others have said, it is such a time saver to be able to browse multiple designers and styles all on one rack, by color and all in my size. I really appreciate how clean and organized everything is and the people who work there are incredibly helpful and nice. The turnover of items is pretty quick - I can go there week after week and find new stuff. The prices are really on point because, as I said, the condition of the clothes are really "like new" but substantially cheaper. I haven't sold anything cause I really wear my clothes out, so I can't comment on that... but I highly recommend this store and am so thankful to have this resource. read more

I stopped in here after seeing it driving by and remembering hearing about it on the radio some time ago (probably months) and hoping that maybe, just maybe, they might have a section with Maternity clothes. It's in an older, kinda run down shopping center, so my hopes were not super high. I was expecting to have to wade through closely packed racks of stinky old Walmart tank tops (Plato's Closet, anyone?) BUT that WAS NOT the case here. I was pleasantly surprised to walk in to a clean, well organized store with plenty of room between racks to be able to walk. The clothing was all name brand and in extremely good shape.I milled around a bit and then I found it, a small section of maternity clothes in the back of the store. Oh HaPpY DaY! I went through and was lucky enough to find a pair of work slacks, a sweater, and a nice blouse that were in my size. I tried them on and to my great delight they all fit great! I went up to the checkout and the store associate asked me if I found everything OK and me, being a little too outspoken, indicated that I wished they had more stuff in their maternity section but that I was glad that they had one at all. The associate (who may have been the owner?) indicated that it was my lucky day because they actually had a bunch of stuff behind the desk that had just been tagged and was headed out to the sales floor. He let me look at the new (pre-owned) items and I got another pair of pants and another shirt. I think my total came out to be about $40 for two pairs of work pants and three shirts. Not too bad bad AT ALL for maternity wear because that stuff is EXPENSIVE (I'm not sure why, I can only guess that maternity clothes manufacturers know damn well we're all fat and feeling bad about ourselves and will pay whatever it takes to look relatively cute again). read more

Terrible service I had my first visit to Closet Mentor today. I brought clothes in to sell and was asked to sign an agreement that said they were not responsible to any damage to my items while they priced the items. I was told it would take an hour as there were two people ahead of me. I returned in an hour and they said it would take another 45 minutes. I returned again and they had still not finished. I was told they sometimes get backed up and had been busy. I was sitting outside the whole time and saw no more than 6 customers in that time period. I told them I could not wait any longer so I wanted to take my items. They told me I could leave them there and return, but to get there is not convenient for me, and there was no way I was leaving items if they were not going to be held responsible for damage. On my way home they called me to tell me they had forgotten to return one of my items. I was quite mad at that point and asked to speak with the manager. The owner got on the line and apologized, bit clearly did not feel they were in the wrong, as he explained to me that "they sometimes get backed up." I do understand that, but they had 3 people working, a total of 6 customers, and a lot of talking going on between the employees. It was clear that my time was of no consequence. I will never return again and do not recommend it to anyone who values their time. read more

I just read the previous reviews for Clothes Mentor, and noticed a disparity between those who want to "sell" clothes vs. "buy" clothes. I fall in the latter group. On the high recommendation of my niece, a seasoned shopper, I went to check out this new shop. To my delight and surprise, I felt like I was walking into a pristine clothing boutique on the beachfront in southern California. Which is to say, a mini high-end retail store (on the order of Saks, Bloomingdale's, and Bergdorf Goodman) right around the corner from Whole Foods. I felt like I'd died and gone to heaven when I saw the array of designer clothing, shoes, handbags at bargain basement prices. Nothing I've seen in this area to date can match it for quality and affordability. Nor can I say enough about the attention and courtesy shown to me by the owners and their staff. Unlike some of the feedback by customers wanting to sell their wares, I found the staff (owners and employees) remarkably courteous, attentive, warm, and knowledgeable. When I inquired about their buying policy, they were extremely thorough and forthcoming, including the age cutoff point for items, and commission percentage to the seller. For those of you looking for the greatest return on merchandise your wanting to sell, consider Amazon, Craig's List, or eBay. For those of you (like me) looking for a great staff, atmosphere, superior merchandise, and bargains galore, look no farther! read more

Great quality items and the purses are the rave!!!! Designer clothing, purses and shoes. I have found some great treasures here. I miss the store greatly since moving back to Georgia. If you love great deals, quality clothing and shoes, you must give them a try. The purses are a tremendous bonus item to come for. The cashiers were distracted and one almost took the purse out of my hand that I was looking at, she wanted for herself. This was a turn-off! Overall, my rating for the store, the products sold and the price paid are five stars. But.... It seems that there is a problem for people with items to sell, having a very difficult time and providing poorer ratings here for Clothes Mentor. You do know these people keep you in business - they need priority. I would suggest to the owner that special arrangements be made for sellers to make appointments and to be given your undivided attention, to select from the items what you can sell and return the others, in a friendly, kind, timely and patient manner. You must have staff dedicated to this process who spend less time talking among themselves and more focused on the work and on all customers (your livelihood). As owner, you can give explanations all day long to our feedback here - but if you or your employees don't keep the commitments made, telling us you are busy or backed up - doesn't help your credibility. I went in Monday to drop off clothes to sell. Entering the store, the employee was very cold, not even a greeting. Just asked "picking up?" with no smile. She was probably bored. It was a two hour wait, but it was good because I had to run an errand and I would receive a text when they were done checking the clothes. Coming back 2 hrs later to pick up my stuff there were two other employees and same, no greeting or "how can we help you"? I started looking around to see what I could find and honestly they're too pricey for me. I'm comparing it to the amount they paid for my clothes. At the end I had to pay $30 extra with the credit for the clothes they bought from me (Sam Edelman pumps, White House Black Market coat, brand new Carlos Santana booties and a lot of Ann Taylor and The Loft shirts and Levi's, all for $50) I know that was my choice to sell for that amount. Probably will not be selling to them anymore, will start selling on Poshmark. During the time I was looking around neither one of the employees came to see if I needed assistance or if I needed a fitting room. The store literally had about 3 costumers. I understand that part of their job is to review the clothes people bring in to sell but to take a min to check if costumers need anything is all part of costumer service. read more

I will be returning often! Great quality, prices, and selection. You can find both trendy and timeless pieces, all current styles. The organization of the store is also as it should be, sorted by type, then size, then color. Finally, the staff are very friendly and explained their policies thoroughly. While I haven't consigned with them yet, it sounds like they only take styles that are 1-2 years old. You also get cash on the spot instead of waiting for your item to sell like at other consignment stores. That's their business model, so I think it's very fair. read more

I have been to the Clothes Mentor (Chapel Hill) a few times now, and have been extremely pleased with my experience every time - as both a buyer and a seller. I see that a few folks who have sold clothing here weren't as pleased, so I wanted to share my experience. I have brought bags of clothes in to sell and usually they take about one quarter to one half of what I bring in - which is just fine with me because the reason I am bringing the clothes is because they don't fit or I don't want them anymore - so anything I get for them is a bonus, and I take the rest around the corner to donate to the PTA Thrift Shop. If you're not looking to "make your money back", which you will really not be able to do anywhere because clothes depreciate just like cars and other purchases, then I think you will be pleased. I personally appreciate their high-standards on clothing - they are looking for like-new condition clothes, not the standard 'gently used'. And that is what I am looking for as a shopper when I shop in the store - like-new clothes, not clothes I have to pick through based on condition/wear. So when they 'pass' on some of my clothes because they are slightly loved/have a little pilling, or a have a little pull, I am not at all offended. The staff is always above and beyond attentive, getting you a basket as needed and always on hand to open a dressing room. The store is always clean and has a great variety of clothing styles and sizes. I don't think I'll buy clothes from a department store again! I've found everything I've needed here - from dresses to wear to a wedding, to work blazers and blouses, casual tops, and my favorite purse. Can't say enough good things, truly. read more

Shoes being final sale isn't posted anywhere, and I obviously dont get a receipt until after I purchase something. Yes I read it, but that was after the purchase. So I was basically tricked. The salesperson didn't tell me that at all, so I found out after I paid you. I wouldnt have bought them if your staff had just done their job and told me the policy at checkout. I was pleasantly surprised at the great customer service, the timeliness to sort through all my belongings, and my final cash takeaway. After neatly pressing and dry cleaning over 25 professional work clothes, size 4P, from Ann Taylor, Gap, J.Crew, and Banana Republic, I was very disappointed when an employee handed me my basket with a "PASS" note on the entire load. She told me my clothes were "well loved" and "not in current demand". I take a lot of pride in my style and appreciate good quality clothing. Although several pieces may have been a little dated (we are talking mid 2000's, not 1980), in my opinion, some clothes never go out of style- such as black rain coats and suit blazers. I was very taken back and thought this store would be different than the other consignment shops in the area. In a way, I'm happy I was able to walk away with all my clothes, so that I can now donate them to less fortunate and more appreciative women. read more
