This is probably the best consignment store I've been to in the Triangle. It has an incredible selection, of NWT and vintage items, and everything is priced pretty well. My friend recently got two designer dresses and two pairs of J. Crew shoes for under $200 on our recent trip! It can get a little crowded, so I'd go early to make sure you have some time to wander before trying anything on. But the staff is really nice and helpful, so even if it's busy they'll help you find what you're looking for. read more

After walking around I asked the lady at the desk about the consignment aspect of the store because I have a Dooney and Bourne purse I don't use and she basically was looking at me out of the corner of her eye talking to me like she didn't want to tell me anything. This used to be my wife's favorite consignment store but is not anymore. According to her, the selection has changed following a change in ownership. We will still go on occasion (my daughter bought some clothes over the holidays) but not as much as we used to. Selection is separated by clothing item and size, with newly secured items up front. Parking is usually easy and they occasionally have some outdoor tent sales as well. That's all I got. read more

Great finds here (often). It's a consignment shop...sometimes I walk in, and walk out, sometimes I find THE PERFECT THING!!! The balance is still in the positive for that. The staff is extra helpful and friendly. They'll double as the girlfriend you didn't bring if you need them to. The prices are a across the board. Mostly under $100 for anything that isn't unworn and/or by a high end designer. Again, those of you expecting perfection every time you go to a consignment shop are placing your hopes a little high. It's not like there's any store in this area that does that will full price items. I have been shopping at Stock Exchange for several years and the staff are always helpful and engaging. I've purchased winter coats, shoes, blouses, jewelry and purses and am happy with every purchase. I consign just enough to get a good discount when I shop and I can pick up items that don't sell before they donate. Lindsey has a real way with customers, she greets me by name every time and we talk about our kids and our alma mater. They play a great selection of soul, blues and R&B and offer treats and chocolates during special sales or during the holidays. The pants and jeans selection needs to increase, but everything is dependent on what people consign. read more

What a great little find! At the end of each season, this place has a Half-Price clearance sale where I was lucky enough to pick up a barely worn pair of Christian Louboutin wedge shoes for $55! Disclaimer - I'm from California, Southern California to be exact, so I'm used to random designer super fashion finds consignment stores with trendy, picky goth fashionista buyers like Buffalo Exchange. I wanted to like the Stock Exchange but I was underwhelmed at best. Maybe it was just the day I went, but I felt the prices were a little high ($14 for a used C&C tank), the selections a little dated (for the price), and the higher end duds (Anthro, J.Crew, Theory... those guys you know) few and far in between. After my recent in-and-out experience at Plato's, and still high on my marked-down designer duds from the annual Uniquities attic sale, I popped over to the Stock Exchange to test my luck further. I have fond memories of this store in its former location on Franklin Street, where I was a frequent shopper, and a consignor as well. This was my first visit since they moved years ago; but I still had high expectations based on my previous experiences, and glowing reviews of course. I have this to say: Where the hell were the Louboutins hiding?!? I can only assume Elizabeth F has cleaned them out once again... =) They were hosting a year-end 20% off sale on boots and coats. But nothing caught my eye. I dug deeper into the racks to see what steals I could uncover, but in place of beauties I used to find there (Theory, Nanette Lepore), drab things from J Jill, Jones New York, and LL Bean stared back. I know just yesterday I was griping about how the clothes at Plato skewed too young for me; and now here I am complaining about looks being too old. But -- approaching my 30s, I guess I really am somewhere in the middle... still striving for hip and fashion-forward, just with some sophistication. My modest salary doesn't exactly support my expensive taste, so I was thrilled to discover the Stock Exchange a few months ago. They have a really good selection of gently (sometimes never) used upscale clothing, which turns over often and is priced very fairly. It's a great place to find expensive jeans that are already worn in for you, and even though I wear a pretty common size I never have trouble finding items that fit. I also love to browse the accessories - I've found some really unique costume jewelry recently. I generally find it hard to part with my clothes so I don't often consign them, but the staff was so welcoming that I certainly wouldn't be scared to bring a few things in one day. read more

Love this second-hand store. It's fun because there's such a variety: there are inexpensive (~$10-18) items from more contemporary and mainstream brands, mid-price items from nicer mall brands (like Talbots) and $100-200 Gucci shoes and purses, all mixed in together. There are brand-new styles next to vintage pieces and office attire next to casual streetwear. I have such a good time when I go here whether I'm looking for something specific or just browsing. They also have a TON of shoes in lots of different styles and price ranges. I would suggest going in with a firm budget, since I often fall in love with items that are more than I was planning to spend! Do note that there is very minimal stock of plus-size items and there is no mens section. read more

I've found some very nice designer pieces for my wardrobe at good prices here. I lost a significant amount of weight (I'm down three dress sizes) and consigned a lot of clothes. I made about $300. Awesome shop! I found so many pieces here, even some brand new with tags! Everything I saw was in new condition and a really good price. The associates who were working were incredibly friendly and helpful and made the whole experience really fun. From talking to the manager, the turnover is very quick too. They go through hundreds of pieces a day and only keep about 20%, so I guess it shows how picky they are by the quality of what they keep. I'm a curvy gal, and a late bloomer. I grew over an inch for no apparent reason at the age of 19, and my bra size changed dramatically between 1998 and 2003. As you can imagine, I know a bit about the consignment stores in this area, 'cause at least I make a little money off my growing butt. In my opinion, The Stock Exchange has the best inventory for younger, trendier thrift shoppers. In a recent trip, I saw Lily Pulitzer dresses, designer jeans, and a Louis Vuitton bag. There's a variety of brands for sale, though - the stuff I consign here is from Banana, J. Crew, Ann Taylor - my nicer department store brands in addition to the pricey stuff I have to admit I can't wear any more (Michael Stars, Juicy jeans). From the perspective of a seller, I find that they tend to accept more of my stuff than some of the other places around here - I take that to mean I'm a good reflection of their target demographic, not that they're not particular about their inventory. Plus, they have friendly employees who don't act like you're trying to sneak a stained skirt past them. *** Update (2/18/2009) So here's me, still not getting any slimmer, and still populating the Stock Exchange with my awesome, barely-used clothes. I wanted to update this review because my impressions of this place have only improved since my initial consignment trips. They've recently started using an online service that keeps track of the items you bring in and how much they sold for, so that you can check to see which items have sold and how much money you'll be receiving in your monthly checks. This is very convenient, and something I haven't encountered with other consignment stores. Inventory remains of good quality, although if some of my fellow size 12 hotties could bring in a few more pairs of your gently-used expensive-brand jeans, that wouldn't hurt either. I have visited the Stock Exchange on a few occasions and always leave empty handed. I have high hopes for the store, but I've been underwhelmed on every visit. I find that the clothes tend to look worn/faded and the overall selection of apparel is just not that great. They do appear to have a decent designer jeans selection (decent brands, but little variety in sizes) and I have spotted a few great designer hand bags. I'll probably stop by every so often when I'm in the area because its super close, but I won't go out of my way. read more

This store is the ultimate in getting designer clothing at discount. Most of the items are barely used or have never been worn. I've found a great pair of Diesel jeans in there at an awesome price, along with shoes and boots. I absolutely loved The Stock Exchange! I was so impressed by their great selection! I was able to find awesome work clothes here, dresses, pants, tops, that were normally way more than I want to spend for work, but here they were priced just right! I was really impressed with how hard they work to keep it stocked well and to help everyone find something. The staff is hilarious and always ready to help you find just what you need, be it for work or that exciting date you have with "Ohhhh hunny, he sounds perfect, catch him UP!" that guy... hahaha :) They have purses, shoes, jewelry and you can literally create multiple entire outfits from the things they have in there. Obviously sometimes, as with any place like this, you're just not going to luck out. But even then, I find myself excited for the next time I come in and get to scope out exciting new pieces to add to my closet! :) read more

They check each item so thoroughly, so when I buy something I know it's in great condition. They give a lot to charity, and it's fun to swap clothing rather than throw and buy new. I'm from Kernersville, NC and I am visiting my daughter and her mother-in-law said let's just drop in and look around. I could have spent hours and hours and hours in the shop and still not see everything! Ok place for resale shopping. They are extremely choosy about what they accept from consignors. I have taken brand name items into consign, but they have been rejected. My things were better than some of the things they had on the racks. Worth a stop every six months or so. Especially the sale rack. But most of their things are a little overpriced. read more

I moved here from San Francisco, where I was used to shopping at places like Buffalo Exchange and Crossroads Trading Company. I also would hit the thrift shops in the Mission District pretty regularly. Doing this, I was able to score fun, interesting clothes at very low prices. The prices here are not quite so low. It's kind of like going to Nordstrom Rack - you can find some cute, designer pieces, but the prices can go quite high. I bought a t shirt, sweater and a pair of NYDJ ponte pants for a total of $100. When I got home I realized the pants had holes in the seam. (I usually check the seams when I'm shopping consignment, but didn't because I was in a rush this time.) So, I'd say my experience at the store was okay, but I'm going to try some other thrift stores in the area, because I don't care as much about brands as I do about just finding fun, quirky clothes. read more

The Stock Exchange is always full of amazing pieces of clothing, shoes, purses, and accessories. The sizes range from extra small through plus size. I've also noticed a selection of petite items! Compared to other consignment stores, this is one of the best I've seen! Prices here go by the industry standard of 1/3 retail value for used items and 1/2 retail value for new items. The brands and designers range from target to Hermes (all authenticated). They have special sections for St. John Couture, new designer items, Free People, Anthropology, Chicos, and boho chic brands. The staff does a great job of taking in pieces in excellent condition and they are super helpful. Seriously, if you need help finding an outfit for an event or matching a blouse with pants, they will help you! It's like having a personal shopper but without the cost! The best part is, twice a year EVERYTHING GOES HALF PRICE. That's right, everything goes half price when they transition seasons. I can't say more positive things about this place. I feel super welcome every time I come, I find amazing things, and I get amazing deals. I haven't paid retail value for anything since I've found this place! I have seen the light! read more
