We had heard about this business from some neighbors who had tried them. We decided to check them out. The moment we entered the store we were greeted by a young lady by the name of Tyler. She spent a considerable amount of time using their equipment to analyze my wife's walking technology. She then spent considerable time asking my wife what she was looking for in a sneakers- in terms of fit and function. Tyler then brought out quite a few pair of different brands of sneakers. She and my wife analyzed each pair in terms of comfort and features. One thing that I found quite impressive was that Tyler had the discussion with my wife vs looking at me even though we were sitting together. Many other sales people in other stores tended to direct the conversation to me even though it was abundantly clear my wife was the customer. Tyler was extremely knowledgeable and personable and patient. She wanted to be sure all questions were addressed appropriately and in the end my wife did choose one of the pair Tyler recommended. It's so nice to have a clerk who listens and an establishment that is capable of meeting your needs. That was my experience at Fleet Feet. It had been ten years since I was last here, choosing more recently to shop for sneakers at the outlets instead. But I was not happy with the last pair I purchased at an outlet and desired to shop this time where I could rely upon an employee to search, instead of me, through the store's stock for what I was looking for. Vivian did just that. I explained what I was looking for, and described what features I wanted to avoid. She then retrieved from their stock several pairs that met all my criteria. After trying out all of them by walking throughout the store, I made my choice. But I wasn't finished yet. She had responded to an earlier question regarding arch support that none of the brands of sneakers the store carried had arch support. I therefore said I was interested in purchasing a separate pair of insoles that would be appropriate for my feet. She brought me to a 3D foot-scanning machine that showed the shape of my arches. Based upon that information she had me sample several different insoles that would address my needs. Once I made my choice she custom cut the appropriate pair of insoles and inserted them into the new sneakers I was buying. I got to also retain the insoles originally provided by the manufacturer. My wife and I needed better sneakers, as cheap mall shoe store items weren't cutting it. We came here on my lunch break, and a nice woman showed my wife multiple pairs of shoes with various levels of support. She also took a scan of my wife's feet and observed her walking to help diagnosis my wife's posture. In the end, we picked out a pair my wife was really happy with. They weren't cheap, but if they last twice as long and feel twice as good as mall shoes (a pretty low bar to hurdle) they will be worth it. I first learned about this shoe store when my wife's Dr. recommended she seek them out for help with her fasciitis. I was skeptical but the Dr. was the expert so we went and I was pleasantly surprised. For starters, the service is next level. It is clear everyone who works there is in some way passionate about running, shoes, and other forms of recreation that require quality foot wear. The store is well kept, clean and in no way claustrophobic. My wife was greeted by a friendly gentlemen who himself had also suffered from fasciitis. The first thing they did was a "assessment" where they observed her walk bare foot along a track and determined how she walked and some of her needs. Then they measured her feet more precisely and determined something she never knew, that one of her feet was slightly larger than the other which meant she'd been wearing shoes a size too small her whole life. Then, they provided her a few different types of shoes which they recommended based on their assessment. They made sure she was comfortable with her selection but explained that should she find them unsatisfactory that they would refund her purchase so she could get a better pair later if necessary which is pretty cool when you consider shoes, like cars, devalue the moment they hit the pavement outside the store. Afterwards, her shoes led to a complete remission of her fasciitis! So they worked just as expected. I was so impressed I went to them myself because I've always had flat feet and wide toes that caused discomfort. They were able to help me immensely with a brand of shoes I never knew existed "Altria" which had a much wider toe box that made them the most comfortable shoes I have ever worn. In regards to my flat feet, there isn't much they could do there which they were completely open about explaining that'd be best addressed by a doctor. In my view, based on my and my wife's experiences with Fleet Feet, I highly recommend them. You will have a slightly less diverse selection than a regular shoe store but the shoes you get will be the best fitting, most comfortable, most healthy pair you will ever own. Costs are only slightly higher than a typical shoe at foot locker and in some cases less and they offer "cash back" coupons for hitting certain threshold amounts that usually amount to around a $25 rebate on your next purchase. Further, the service you get from assessment to recommendation will be second to none and more than make up for the added cost. I recommend these folks. I imagine if you are like me, you will never go anywhere else again to buy your footwear after you give them a try. read more

I was not greeted kindly or courteously. the women was hostile when I refused to accept a multi colored pair of sneakers after i explicitly requested white sneakers. I happened to come in when it was busy and there was a wait; understandable.....but I wasn't trying to be re-fit, I wanted another pair of the sneakers I walked in with. The girl and the register told me that wasn't possible without enduring the wait. So I really needed to wait 30ish minutes for someone to grab sneakers from the back and bring them to the register? The girl standing at the register couldn't do it? Really annoying. So I get it, How they run their business is how they run their business. Love this place. If you need sneakers, this is the place to go. The people that work there are extremely knowledgable and friendly. They spend a lot of time with their customers to make sure that they get just the right fit/style/product. I won't buy sneakers anywhere else. Last week I was in there with a friend (that also won't buy sneakers elsewhere!), and I wound up buying a great pair of flip flops and some compression socks. They also have a very nice selection of workout clothing. If you're interested in training with a group for a 5k, half marathon...etc...they also offer programs for beginners, intermediate and advanced running folk. Highly recommended. read more

I've been running for about a year now and I've made some mistakes along the way. I think perhaps the biggest mistake among them was not coming to Fleet Feet Sports when I picked up this hobby. I learned more about running, gear, and the culture surrounding all of it in my hour visit to Fleet Feet than I have in the countless hours spent on the internet or on the road. I was surprised by how busy the shop was on a Friday afternoon. I was immediately put on a waiting list, as the sales people (or should I call them experts) were helping others. All told, I waited about ten minutes, which allowed me plenty of time to explore. Though I wasn't in the market for clothing, equipment, or nutritional products on this visit, there were plenty of those things to browse. Glancing at just a handful of prices of shorts, socks, tanks, and hats I found that the prices were very similar to what you'd find anyplace else. Once I was called, I was paired up with a super knowledgeable employee who started by talking to me generally about how I approach running. Next, measurements of my feet were taken and my gait was tested. Right off the bat, the employee identified some traits that have been leading to some injuries. Getting that type of immediate feedback was incredible. As I was in the market for sneakers, I was provided several pairs to try on. I was allowed to take them in the parking lot and jog around a bit, something that's completely lost in other stores. The same goes for the customization - the sneakers I was given to try out were specifically built for my foot-type and gait. This experience is simply not found in the larger retail stores. Although the pair I settled on was on sale, the prices of the running shoes were predictably high. Again, I don't see much of a difference in the prices at Fleet Feet compared to other stores. If you're the type of person that will walk out of a store based on a $5 difference, then maybe this isn't the place for you. However, for that meager difference in price you are receiving unparalleled customer service, in a comfortable setting, and working with people that are nothing short of experts in this arena. read more

Fleet Feet is the absolute best if you are in the market for running shoes. The staff are patient and attentive watching your running gait, listening to how to train, what brands have been successful in the past, etc and will help you find shoes that fit your feet. Their store loyalty program will help reduce prices a little if you are a regular customer. I love that they sponsor local races, hold group runs and really try to help foster the local running community. They have a large supply of running gels, nutrition, etc, which has definitely helped me out in a jam. read more

Fleet Feet is my favorite place to buy running shoes and gear in the Capital District. This is a real running store, for runners of all different levels. For example, I have been running for 15 years, and on the other end we just bought my girlfriend, a true beginner, a pair of shoes last weekend. For a long time, I went to a "big box" retailer that shall stay unnamed to purchase my running shoes. The associates didn't know much, and it was usually up to me to pick out my shoes. For a few years, I kept having knee issues. Once I went into Fleet Feet last summer, I was told immediately that I had been running in the wrong shoes. The associate measured my foot, drew on it, and immediately put me in much different shoes than I would have considered trying on. I tried on, and ran in at least 5 different pairs before making up my mind. Lo and behold, they fit great. I'm now a loyal customer. Quite simply great service and reasonable prices. Might you get lower prices at other stores, but the knowledge and service substantially are exceptional at Fleet Feet. read more

"They don't make them like they used to," can refer to many things: the durability of items, the quality of service, or the respectability of people, but one thing can be agreed upon: it's just not quite as good as it used to be (whatever it is), and what is happening to the world today? All of these sentiments, in any form, cannot be applied to Fleet Feet, and here is why. - Upon entering, you are greeted and someone is assigned to help you if you need it. - The staff is very knowledgable and takes time for expert sizing, flexibility, watching the way you walk and run for your level of pronation and how much support you may need, and just listening about your running history and the type of shoes you've had in the past. - Based on this, they have you try on as many pairs of shoes as it takes until you find your Soul Shoes. You are encouraged to run around outside, take a few laps around the building, and even try running with a different shoe on each foot for comparison. Shoe service does not get any better than this. My personal experience is not unique to many runners; my favorite running shoes had reached their last mile and it was time to retire them. I'd developed shin splint in my right leg, and was a tad concerned since I had a couple of half marathons coming up. I needed something that was light on my feet and comfortable, but also had the support not to aggravate my new and profoundly annoying injury. Julie to the rescue! After going through 8 pairs of shoes, tons of running, talking, and overall learning, she sold me on the Brooks Ghost 5, which fit better and had a bit more support than my previos Brooks Cadence. After about an hour of working with me, I had finally found my Soul Shoes. I came here because everyone I knew in the Albany area who ran told me this was the best place to go. However, it came with a warning that they were a little pricey. I feel obligated to inform you that for me, this was indeed NOT the case. Anyone who runs understand this universal fact: with running shoes, you get what you pay for. Running shoes are expensive. But if you get good shoes that fit you correctly, they will treat your body right. I snagged up the Brooks Ghost 5 for $110.00, which is the same price that is on Amazon, Runners Warehouse, and on the Brooks site itself, except none of them had the B width available that I needed; Fleet Feet did. This was a fair and level price for these shoes, plus the amazing hour consultation that I received to boot. My information is now in their system, so that when I return for shoes, supports, etc., they can pull up my profile, assess if my form has changed at all, and match a product to my needs. I thought I had posted a review for this place some time ago, but apparently I never actually submitted it. I fail, it's OK. Nevertheless! Fleet Feet rocks. I was never a big running guy, so suffice it to say, I'm a total moron when it comes to running shoes. There was a bit of a wait for someone to help me, but that was because the store was busy and they are particularly attentive to their customers. They spend more than enough time explaining to you the nature of the various shoes they're showing you, getting to know your running habits and intentions, and making sure the shoes they're presenting fit your needs. The guy who ended up helping me was great. He answered my stupid questions, brought out a few different shoes to try, and had me run in each of them while he observed to assess my running form and looking for pronation. Based on my feedback on those first few pairs of shoes, he brought out others that were similar to the fits and feels that I liked, repeated the process, and we ended up on a shoe that fit perfect and have worked great for me ever since. I also picked up some running socks here and I think they've made a reasonable difference. They also have plenty of accessories. I picked up a pouch for the foot pod from my Garmin 405, since I don't really trust the little clip it comes with. The other cool thing is that they apparently keep track of the shoes you buy, so the next time you come in for new shoes they can more efficiently get you set up with the perfect new pair. Absolutely wonderful visit and experience last week. I am reaching the end of my current running shoe so while traveling in up state New York, I stopped at the local Fleet Feet Running store. I had shopped at a couple of specialty running shoe stores in Maryland without great experiences. While the shoes I purchased were good, it seemed to be almost happenstance. The reputations of those stores are good but my service was either non-existent or disinterested at best. Fleet Feet Albany was a different experience. They immediately took interest in my concerns and my needs. After measuring my feet in a couple of positions and explaining the difference between a standing and sitting foot size, I ran on their indoor track barefoot so James, the salesman, could watch my gait and see how my feet moved. James talked to me about the science of running and showed me some additional tricks for conditioning. We talked about my current shoes and the previous purchases. Then I tried on and tried out 4 different shoes. Yes, I ran outside with each different test model. Once I landed on the particular shoe, the salesman brought out 2 additional color choices. I even was able to test drive the color choice I picked. I am very happy with my Fleet Feet experience. I will go back to my local store again when I need to and am open to finding a better experience there. Knowing my travel schedule will bring me back to Albany though, I am inclined to schedule my running accessories needs to a trip there. read more

I went to fleet feet today to purchase a pair of sneakers a nice young boy named Tony was helping me. I was there with my husband, mom and my son. I was holding a sneaker in my hand to look at before I could make a decision and out of the blue another employee walked up to me and pointed at the empty spot on the shelf and said " A mam can you put that back I can't have you touching all the shoes and stay 6 feet away from TONY". I was in shock. I was wearing a mask and so was TONY. I had cleaned my hands multiple times with sanitizer when I walked in and so did my family. It was hurtful to have him be so rude. I was going to spend a lot of money on sneakers. But unfortunately after his demeanor we were out of there. What a sad time we are living in. I will take my business to a more respectful place. (1) If you are a runner, this is the place to go. The sales team is understanding to your personal needs and listens to where you are as an athlete to show you the products that best match your needs. As my son's dedication to running has advanced so have his needs as a runner. But they did not try to sell him on shoes he was not ready for his first two years. (2) If you are a non-runner and would like to start running this is also the place to go. They take their time helping you find the best fitting shoe that will help prevent injury as you start your training. I can attest my poorly fitting shoes were the cause of my knee pain and every runner friend I had recommended I go to Fleet Feet and get properly fitted. Yes it worked. My knee pain went away and I went on to complete my first 5K at the age of 42. (3) If you have an orthopaedic issue, this is the place to go. If you refuse to spend $600 for custom orthotics or find them uncomfortable, the team at Fleet Feet can find a best fit shoe and add an orthotic to provide the support you need. I have found it easier to get a new pair of $50 orthotics for each of my son's sets of new shoes as he grows. Note to first time visitors: Sunday's from 12-4 are extremely busy. Many repeat customers are there and find what they need more quickly. If you want a more slow paced experience I suggest going during the weekdays and not at peek school times like right before start of each season. read more

What everyone says: amazing service, but can be pricy. On Waiting: I've been here three times in the last month or so. The first time was a Sunday, when they are only open for 4 hours, and it was packed. We were greeted when we walked in, and put on a waiting list to be assisted. (I tried on sports bras and my mom looked at the socks. Apparently they will fit you for sports bras, but I didn't try this.) The other two times were a Friday afternoon and a Saturday afternoon, and both times I was helped right away. First my mother's experience: My mom is an avid runner, and she swears by this place even though it's an hour away. Even though she usually gets the same sneakers each time, they help her try them on and make sure it's still a good match. Last time the guy talked her into a new style. Unfortunately she hasn't been able to try them out much because of an injury, but based on the couple times she has worn them however, she does like them. Now my experience: I used to run (for fun/exercise/soccer, not competitively), but I've had a lot of knee problems and kind of given up. I've also gained some weight due to medical problems, so I really don't look like a runner. Despite the fact that the staff and many of the customers are super fit, I never felt out of place or embarrassed about my size or even about the fact that I don't run! The first time I was there, there was a boy who looked about 13 and had special needs, and his dad was buying him sneakers for gym class. The second time I was there, the sales guy told me about their beginner runners' training program that I could try if my knees got better. They will help anyone who needs it, not just super runners! This review is getting long, so I'll sum up my visits quickly. Service was as described in other reviews. The first visit, the sales guy was super enthusiastic and nice, but when I got home and wore the sneakers, they hurt my feet. After weeks of wearing them, they were dirty and clearly used, but I was able to exchange them no questions asked! I believe its a 30 day exchange period. This time, I was able to articulate more clearly what was wrong with the sneakers, and a different sales guy helped me pick out a new (cheaper!) pair. Apparently even though I have a very narrow heel, my feet are a C width (standard is B). Just my luck, women's sneakers don't come in a C width, so he took the time to try all different combinations of widths in both sneakers and superfeet insoles. The insoles weren't in stock, so he ordered them for me. The price difference was less than $100, so he gave it to me in cash. So far the sneakers are great, and I just got the insoles and they are even more comfortable now. A few last things: -They have a customer rewards program, where you can accumulate how much you have spent and then get discounts. Like a CVS card for sneakers. -They just opened a second location in Malta. - Bring the last pair of sneakers you had. - They never bring up price until you check out, so if this is a concern for you, tell them from the get-go. There's a variety of brands - my second pair was Brooks, way cheaper than the first Adidas pair. - If they special order you something and you can't make it in when they call, let them know and they will hold it until you can come by. ***Note that if your refund is over $100, they will only give you store credit*** Minus the one star just because of the inconvenience of having to come all the way back three times. I walked in the store and there were about 3 or 4 employees who just rudely stared at me and then asked if I needed help. When I told them what I needed they said they didn't carry it and showed me what they did have. The guy assumed I only wanted women's sneakers and after showing me the woman's side I walked over to the men's and the guy said very rudely "we only have men's shoes on that side, there aren't any women's shoes over there." My fiancee took me here to get my first pair of running sneakers. This isn't your average athletic shoes/wear store where you get to peruse your own shoes. The customer service here is superb and the people here aren't just sales people but they really know things about running and whatnot. When walking in, we were greeted by a sales person and she evaluated my feet and how I run. She let me try on a couple of shoes that she thought would be good for my feet. All of the shoes were amazingly comfortable and you really cares about the style of the shoe when its going to improve your running. I left the store with much satisfaction and a great pair of Reebok running shoes. Running has been made much easier! read more

Best place in Albany to get running shoes..If you are a beginner like me, you have a lot of questions for getting that perfect fitting shoes. I went on a weekday at 6 so they were not overly busy. The guy was very patient in hearing my requirements. He made me walk barefoot on a small track to do a quick gait analysis. I tried 3 running shoes and ran around the shop with each one before choosing the best one. When I checked out, it was already 7:15 and they close at 7. Great for customer service. Staff is very knowledgable and seems like they are all runners. When I went in here as a new runner at 50 years old, they were very helpful and had alot of great advice. Most of which I am still using. I subtract one star because prices are a bit higher than most. I made two trips to this store, bought one pair of sneakers, one pair of running shorts and two shirts. Total cost was about $280.00. I certainly appreciate the percent off coupons you offer for large sneaker purchases, but you need more than 10% to offset some of the prices. Don't get me wrong, love the store, love the staff, and recommend to everyone that asks for a place to get running shoes. I just think it could be a bit more wallet friendly! I have never been fit for shoes before. Decided to stop in since I'm trying to get in to running. The service here was 2nd to none. They looked at my arch type, had me walk around the store, watched me jog in the parking lot. I was shown about 6 pairs of shoes to try on. Unfortunately the pair that felt the best were out of my price range. However I asked the guy if they could hold them for me to see if I can move some money around. Went back 2 days later and the guy I worked with before was not there. I decided I couldn't justify that cost for shoes, but thought I would try on others again. I ended up with a pair of Brooks shoes that felt fantastic. The price did not break the bank which is also a plus. Just like the last time, the lady that helped me out was very nice, very patient, and answered all of my questions. I wish the prices were a touch more competitive. The shoes I was originally fit for ran for 150, but can be found at the big box stores for 100-110. I just didn't feel right using their fitting service and buying elsewhere. Either way I give this place 4 of 5 because the service is fantastic and they know what they are talking about. read more

I happened upon Fleet Feet on a business trip. I was having some knee pain that I believed had to do with poor support in my footwear. When I entered Fleet Feet, I was immediately greeted. They did a 3-D scan on my feet-- which I have never had done before-- I learned new things about my feet. The shoe salesman was great. I forgot my socks and they had a really great pair of socks to be able to try the shoes on with. The salesman even sat there and put the shoes on my feet. I can't remember having better service at a show store. He made sure I was really comfortable and happy with my selection. And he even had me try different arch support insoles for the shoes I picked that perfected the fit of my shoes. All said and done, I found the most comfortable shoes that I have ever worn in my life. Seriously. My feet feel like they're being hugged and cushioned with every step. And I even got a pair of socks because the ones they have on hand for you to try shoes on with are so comfortable. I even got a pair of socks for my husband. I am so pleased with my purchase. Love, love, LOVE Fleet Feet. Any runner in the Capital Region needs to know about this place. They start off with the friendliest staff who are more than happy to help you out. If you're in for shoes, they will first measure your feet, sitting and standing, then watch you run so they can get an idea of how you land, etc and disappear into the back to find all these wonderful pairs of shoes for you to try. You get to run around the parking lot in them to really get a feel of the shoe, and you can bring them back (even if you've run in them) because they want to make sure you have a good fitted shoe. A good shoe means everything in running. They laced me up in my Brooks Glycerin 9s which I wore for my first marathon in NYC. They also have the best selection of fuel, gels, sports drinks and all the accessories you can possibly need. Yes, it is a bit pricey, but to be custom fitted for shoes and have all of your questions answered, I think it's totally worth it. Also if you rack up $250, they give you a $25 coupon. I went to Fleet Feet yesterday and purchased $240.00 worth of gear. One piece was a $40 plantar fasciitis night sock. I tried it for two minutes last night and couldn't keep it on - too painful. I went in to return it today and they would not take it back. The store clerk pointed out that, at the bottom of the receipt, is printed that all compression socks are final sale. It would have been helpful if they had told me BEFORE I purchased my items that they could not be returned. Dishonest practice to not inform the customer BEFORE the sale of final purchase policies. Well, they decided to keep $40 of mine. Guess they didn't go to business school, 'cuz they have lost thousands in future purchase from me. I try to patronize local and small businesses, but not if they are dishonest. Can buy the same stuff online, cheaper and clear return policies. Bye bye, fleet feet.... read more
