They are loaded for bear right now with winter stock - vast arrays of skates, hockey gear, skis, snowboards, and accessories. They tend at this location to stock ONLY what is demanded for the season, so if you're selling something from an off-season or are looking for a bargain tennis racket in November, you will be disappointed. They do full-season rentals on equipment, which seems to me like a great way to wade into a new sport. Their buyback scheme is as follows: when you bring a used item in, they will price it. If you leave it on consignment to sell, you will get 50% of the price, when it sells. If you want to take trade-in credit right away, you get 40% of the value. If you want to get cash on the nose right away, you get 30% of the value. I looked at the range of conditions and availability for skates (which we were shopping for today) and the price range seemed quite decent for what they had. I waited for our skates to be sharpened, and observed them helping some skiing and snowboarding customers and handling a buy-back transaction, and they seemed very thorough, professional, and knowledgeable. The used prices aren't ultrabargains, but it's difficult to really find a specialty store that deals with used goods. You have your thrift stores, used car dealers, and other than that you're left with Craigslist and garage sales for the most part. So I think this is a pretty good niche, and for the ever-growing and changing-of-interest kids, a great great resource. They'll have to wow me on repeat visits for me to get up to the lofty five stars, but a promising four stars for now.

However, I'm still stewing and frustrated that my bike is still broken after being charged $250 for a tune up and a tire replacement and being nice didn't fix that. The front tire wobbles after being replaced, the bike is very very hard to peddle to make it move forward, the brakes aren't tight and the front brake doesn't grab the front tire so it's useless, and they put a sticker on my bike. As stupid as the sticker part sounds, how would you feel if every mechanic threw a bumper sticker on your car? Why haven't I called them to re-look at the bike? I don't want to spend at-least another $250 to have them come "fix" the bike. The bike is old and they knew that coming in to this. It needed a total overhaul, which I was very clear about and I thought we both understood this. I'm very disappointed and frustrated that I still need to invest more money into this bike to have it fixed.

We received an email confirmation of the order that night, notification that the order was ready for pickup by UPS on Monday, and delivery of the sneakers by Fed Ex on Tuesday. Fast and accurate order filling can't be beat. While we were in the store, my wife was wearing a pair of her favorite shoes that, unfortunately, were no longer comfortable when walking for an extended period. She requested whether new inserts would rectify the problem. The salesclerk took her to a device that took an image of her feet while standing on it and recommended possible alternative shoe inserts. The clerk replaced the existing shoe inserts with samples of the recommended inserts and my wife immediately noticed improvement. My wife chose the inserts that provided the most comfort and the clerk then custom cut new inserts for her shoes. All of this accomplished in about fifteen minutes. By the end of the day my wife was still more than pleased with the improved comfort in wearing her favorite shoes.

She and my wife analyzed each pair in terms of comfort and features. One thing that I found quite impressive was that Tyler had the discussion with my wife vs looking at me even though we were sitting together. Many other sales people in other stores tended to direct the conversation to me even though it was abundantly clear my wife was the customer. Tyler was extremely knowledgeable and personable and patient. She wanted to be sure all questions were addressed appropriately and in the end my wife did choose one of the pair Tyler recommended. It had been ten years since I was last here, choosing more recently to shop for sneakers at the outlets instead. But I was not happy with the last pair I purchased at an outlet and desired to shop this time where I could rely upon an employee to search, instead of me, through the store's stock for what I was looking for. Vivian did just that. I explained what I was looking for, and described what features I wanted to avoid. She then retrieved from their stock several pairs that met all my criteria. After trying out all of them by walking throughout the store, I made my choice. But I wasn't finished yet. She had responded to an earlier question regarding arch support that none of the brands of sneakers the store carried had arch support. I therefore said I was interested in purchasing a separate pair of insoles that would be appropriate for my feet. She brought me to a 3D foot-scanning machine that showed the shape of my arches. Based upon that information she had me sample several different insoles that would address my needs. Once I made my choice she custom cut the appropriate pair of insoles and inserted them into the new sneakers I was buying. I got to also retain the insoles originally provided by the manufacturer. Overall, a very pleasant experience. Ten days have now passed and I'm quite satisfied with the feel and fit of my new sneakers.
