Place is great, it's got a good variety of sports equipment, just don't like the return policy. I wore shoes once and want able to return them. The gentleman said the shoes had "clearly defect" which means they can't be resold in store. Their policy states 90 days for new items. And with the receipt they can deny returns. Service was friendly efficient and helpful! There was not a huge hockey selection we ended up having to go elsewhere to get what we needed however we did find great tape for the sticks and other accessories and this store is a favorite for their clothing selection on the bottom floor. The equipment portion is spread out throughout so many sports in not the largest space upstairs so def check out online the inventory before heading out. read more

Between their 2-level traditional sporting goods store and their warehouse, I think Dick's has more square footage in Crossgates Mall than any other business. It amazes me just how much of their space is taken up by clothes. Given how empty their other spot - the Warehouse of clothes - is at the other end of the mall, I wonder how much of it they actually sell. On the plus side, some of the exercise equipment I was pricing in the store was on sale at a significantly better price than quoted on their website. I'm not sure Dick's is always the best place to buy equipment, but it's certainly a place you have to keep in consideration. read more

Golf department was very helpful. Brody was very patient and polite with me I am a high handicap player and they fitted me for irons that are just great. Owned by Tom and Harry, massive chain with lots of stores nationwide, used to be called Tom Dick's and Harry but the other two jumped ship and now they're all Dick's. I don't like Dick's and this store in particular seems to have an iffy attitude, in terms of the employees, and they didn't have the stuff that I needed, but they have every piece of hunting equipment in the world... And in general they're such an expensive store that I can't believe they're in business and so popular. read more

Even a sheriff was called to a register near our exit as we browsed the clothes there. Unbelievable. Even though we spent several thousands on North face, Nike, and heated jackets. I purchased a small bike online for my grandson. The website listed this specific bike included "free expert assembly with online purchase". I received an email stating that my item was ready and I would get a call from the assembly team member when it was time for pick up. After a couple of days of not hearing anything, I called and was told that they do not assemble small bikes. I went to the store and they presented me with an unassembled bike in an open box! The bike was listed at $109.99 marked down from $149.99. There was a price label affixed to the box for $64.99!! What a joke!! When I called the store, I got a massive runaround and was offered the assembly but told it could be a very long time. So disgusted with this entire transaction! Gave up and returned the darn bike. It had been many years since I had actually come here to shop and I forgot how much good stuff they had inside for sports enthusiasts. My wife needed a good pair of sneakers and had tried various discount shoe stores to no avail. To be sure she is picky, but those stores had a different focus than a sports equipment store. We came here and one of the salesmen was extremely helpful and knowledgeable about both the product lines and differences between brands. Despite 5 of us in the fishing department, not a single employee anywhere to be found. -Employees I did see seemed to do anything to avoid eye contact. I walked past several who didn't even hint I was there. One register had three helping a checkout, not one said a word to me as I stood by to ask a question. Sporting goods seems to be one of the categories where bigger chain stores are doing an inherently better job than their smaller rivals. We've bopped around the smaller places in the area to try to find things, and haven't found a place where they have truly excellent customer service you really want from an independent store. This particularl Dick's is like the other locations we've been to, in that it's extremely hit or miss for customer service or expertise, and the brands are very much concentrated on large manufacturer brands, and there's a ton of apparel filling up the store, but what they have is plentiful, in stock, relatively inexpensive, and there's a selection of choices. On this particular visit, we found immediately three items we were waiting forever for a smaller, closer sporting goods store to get on "backorder". I can't distinguish this Dick's much from the other Dick's in the area, except to note the obvious, that this one is at the mall. It's on one of the peninsula extensions in the mall, so it has all the aggravations of a mall store but with the convenience of having other things close by if you have miscellaneous errands. And we wandered around for 15 minutes without anyone asking us if we needed help. Is that a bug, or a feature? I can't tell. read more

Customer service is horrible. At the store and at corporate level. Bought a treadmill for my daughter. Over $2000. Set up deliver with a 3 hour window. Asked if dicks was delivering. Told yes. Delivery tried to deliver two days before outside the window time. No one was home. Delivery guy said I need to call select express which was the company delivering the treadmill. I called Dicks. Was told was not their problem that a third party contractor delivers item. I asked when does contractor pick up item. Told they would pick up that morning. Asked why dicks let them pick up treadmill two days before delivery and they told me they don't check the dates if delivery they just let the contractor load. They asked for manager. Got assistant. The guy who sold the treadmill. He also said not Dicks problem. I insisted it was. He called select express. New delivery day a day later than original and they could not give me a time. The company that did not call when they switched the day of delivery is supposed to call with a time. Right! Called corporate. Asked for an address to file a complaint. No address or email and would not take anything in writing. They would simply notify the store of the complaint. Which I already did. Will not order anything from Dicks again. Oh and could not get managers last name. Just Mike who is not in all week. What a joke! read more

Dick's Sporting Goods has a big selection of clothes and sports equipment for baseball, football, softball, soccer, and basketball. The prices are a bit expensive and the employees are angry and rude. I was waiting to use the bathroom and a worker told me I wasn't allowed to be near the guns and kicked me out of the store. THEN DON'T PUT THE BATHROOM NEXT TO THE GUNS. Also the employees always ID me to make sure I'm 18, WHY DOES SOMEONE HAVE TO BE 18 to shop at a store. Have you ever wanted to go someplace where the employees have no idea what the hell is going on or what responsibilities are theirs? This is the place to go. Sure, it's a pretty new store (in that it was fairly recently expanded/renovated). The employees have no clue what they're doing though, nor do they have any idea who handles what responsibilities. I bought some gloves from another Dick's location, but there was a problem with them. Since I was in Albany, I decided to exchange them at this Dick's store. The first problem was finding where these gloves were. They were Under Armour ColdGear running gloves, not ski gloves. I showed one of the employees the gloves and asked where I could find them, because they weren't anywhere around the other Under Armour stuff. Apparently annoyed by the audacity of a customer who would ask him a question, he barely stopped walking by as he told me that all of their gloves are upstairs near the bicycles. Great, so I go upstairs to find the section he referred me is primarily all ski gloves. There were no gloves that were anything like the ones I had. I looked around some more and couldn't find what I was looking for. I asked a different employee nearby, who told me the same thing. When I explained that the gloves I was looking for were not in that section, he told me that Dick's probably doesn't carry them. I told him that I bought them from Dick's in Latham, and he finally decided to ask on his radio for help. A short while later, a different employee came upstairs and brought me the gloves I wanted. Fantastic, finally. That brings us to the second problem: finding where or how to actually do the exchange. Now that I had the gloves I needed, I asked the employee who had helped me if I could exchange the gloves at his register. He told me no, that exchanges can't be done upstairs, but that I can go to any of the registers downstairs to do the exchange. Fine. I went downstairs, went to a register and asked the employee there if I could do the exchange. So much for being able to do an exchange at any register downstairs: he told me no, he couldn't do exchanges at his register, so I'd have to go to a different one. Downstairs? Yep, any other register downstairs. Ugh... So I go to the other register, ask the girl if I can do the exchange, and finally someone gives me the straight story: exchanges can only be done at one particular register near the outside entrance to the store. Ffffffffffffuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu! Why couldn't someone have just told me this from the beginning? Does no one at this store know how exchanges work? I was finally able to do the exchange at the register I was directed to by this last employee, but this whole process took way too long to complete. The selection at Dick's is pretty good, especially this one. It's a large store., The pricing isn't always the best, though. They tend to be a bit expensive in my experience. Check other retailers (including Amazon) before making a purchase, because you may be able to save a few bucks somewhere else. While Dick's had the same price for these gloves as the other places I checked, I've typically found better deals elsewhere. read more

After doing some shopping at Crossgates, I decided to stop at Dicks and use my rewards check on some new clothing. The layout of this store can be confusing at times especially because of being two floors. If you have no clue about sporting gear and what zone certain items would be located, this can easily be overwhelming. I've spent time in here shopping for others during all seasons and still wander off the beaten path confused. On the plus side, brands are properly separated. For example Nike is separate from puma and etc. which is nice. The staff at most times won't confront you and let you be but are more than willing to help if you ask. They took the time to call the Latham location and also check the back for a clothing item, I didn't even have to ask. They must've read my face I was looking for a medium, by the way with the holidays around, good luck finding that size. I was trying to find out if Dick's sells CCI brand rimfire ammunition. The "search" selection turned up nothing. CCI is THE most popular rimfire ammunition in america and functions best in most semi-auto pistols and rifles. Why wouldn't Dick's carry it??? They gotta be kidding.. Dick's male management staff is a biased/bigoted. They are very suspicious of African-Americans. I was in to price shoes and boots and do some specific browsing. I had been approached by one other manager who asked if he could help and he provided an answer that I needed. I continued to browse and price. After about a half hour, another employee came over to me and said, "You've been here awhile; is there something I can help you with...." Has he never heard of browsing? ... "been here a while" in a tone that said I shouldn't still be there, and as though there was a time limit. A previous visit to browse and make inquiries was met with suspicious and hard glances. Then the way certain management speaks to African-American employees leaves much to be desired. They need to put themselves in check. read more

I am a big fan of Dicks, not because they refunded me the amount of airmattress i bought which didn't turned out good, but because of the newly renovated dicks which has a lot of selection. Whenever i visit crossgates mall, i visit dick's to play some golf in their artificial golf course and to buy some sports merchandise. Very poor service! Went in to look at a bike and asked to see one that was hanging from the bike hooks above. When I asked to see the bike the worker told me no. At first I thought he was joking but he didn't crack a smile. When I said ok he stuttered over his words saying that it was sold and someone was coming to pick it up tomorrow, yet it didn't have a sign or anything saying it was sold. I would think that even if it was sold he would at least take it down so you could see if you like it, and then they could order another one from another store. Do not go here for bike service Thought I'd go here when I needed a new rim because I didn't have the tools or the experience to make sure I did it all correctly. didn't get my bike back until 3 months later and by then winter was there. They threw in a bit of free service for the wait, but nothing that made it close to worth it. Fast forward to now, I pumped up my tires getting ready for spring, to discover they didn't put rim tape on the new rim before they put the tire back on, which any idiot knows WILL pop your tire every time, which it did. Out more money and time on a new innertube and rim tape. I also had my brakes redone. I can't hook the brakes up, because they adjusted them so that their loosest state is clamping on the rim, so the only way to even get the brakes hooked up would be to deflate the tire and take it off, hook the brakes up, and then squeeze the deflated tire back on, and then the bike would just be immobile. I could adjust it myself if I had a hex wrench that would fit the damn thing, but that's precisely why I payed to have it done professionally, isn't it? I would have saved so much time, money, and most of all headache, if I had just bought all the tools and parts I needed from the start, learned how to do it myself, and then done it myself. Turns out I'm having to fix it all myself anyway. Disappointed and frustrated. Go to a real bike shop if you want bike service from competent humans. read more

Have been trying to buy 2 Kayaks that have been advertised in their flyer for the last month they seem to put items on sale that are not in stock and you can't order them.Have been to several Dicks in NY and even though the web page says they are available they are not in stock in the store. A few weeks ago when I walked into this store, my brother and I were looking at bikes. Out of all the Dick's Sporting Goods stores I've visited, this one tops the list for cleanest and organized stores (for those being 2 levels). Not only were these bikes relatively cheap, but they were also organized in an easy-to-find fashion. Yes, they did have to hang a few from the ceiling, but it was worth it. However, because of the higher cost, my brother (16 years old) was unable to buy the bike he wanted, but at least we got a chance to see what he was looking for and an approximate price range for those bikes that he was looking for. read more

Third time in a row I walked out with nothing! This time I had an arm full of merchandise. when I went to the cash register I was not getting the discounts I expected to received. I wanted to buy a couple fishing reels. and could not get anyone to help me choose compatible line. I eventually made my choices. I'm not going to sit at the cashiers when discounts properly being credited, Unfortunately, there are not a lot fishing equipment. What are these rewards checks David C. talk about? My wife went to Dicks at cross gates and had an ABSOLUTELY NEGATIVE visit. She was planning on purchasing an exercise bike. Could not find ANYONE to help her. FINALLY an employee said they would get someone to help her (why not this employee)? She waited and waited (over 1/2 hour) for someone to show up. They might have well walked by and flipped her off at least she would have gotten SOME response. This place is terrible. The managers, specifically Adam and Mike, are rude and do not know how to treat customers. All they seem to care about is making the sale. They seem incompetent when it comes to doing things the right way. Everything is overpriced and the selection is generic. You're better off elsewhere. read more
