I ordered just one red velvet cupcake. The two ladies at the register were super nice and attentive. The cupcake was $3.04 with taxes. When I got home and tried the cupcake it tasted weird. Idk if they left the cream cheese frosting out next to something pungent. The frosting had this taste like when you put multiple unsealed food in the refrigerator and everything mixes together. Nice, friendly staff Delicious pies I ordered one 9" Banana Cream pie and one 9" Key Lime pie the day before. There was no guarantee if the flavors I wanted would be available on the day I come in. I think pre-ordering is the safest bet. The Banana cream pie was not overly sweet like at some places. The Key Lime had the perfect balance between tartiness and sweetness. Both crusts were soft, flaky, and not buttery. The Banana Cream pie crust is like made of phyllo dough, where the Key Lime pie is like crushed graham crackers. It was a drive to get here but so worth it! I have to try the other sweets now! read more

I ordered 8 boxes of 48 heart-shaped Kolaches (Kolach) from the New Lenox location of Fleckenstein's Bakery - to be picked up for Valentine's Day (the day before, the 13th, at 9 am.) The man I ordered from was fine, but when I accidentally called the Mokena location, moments before, and was put on hold... The Mokena gentleman was much more friendly in tone and engaged in manner; the New Lenox gentleman sounded bored. It's not that the staff was rude or unprepared: The Kolaches look pretty, though I think the sugar is heavy-handed. They were ready on time and neatly boxed on wax paper and enclosed in white boxes that advertise the chain before being tied closed. But when I entered from the ice and snow, I was not greeted by word or deed. One woman remained on the phone (I think she was taking an order) until one customer's entire, meandering transaction was complete. When I sat my 5 month old (in her car seat) on one unmanned, stone counter near 1 of 2 cash registers (set at either end of a long counter with the bakery display of goods in between), I was given a look; it said I was an annoyance. I sat her there because the floor, which would be pretty on a regular day I think (what appeared to be long, wide, light gray tile), was slippery with melted ice and snow and, so, dirty. After 2 more customers entered behind the gentleman who was still working his way toward payment, the woman from the phone came around to the other register. Her expression was skeptical, and her tone was not welcoming as she asked if she could help me. She seemed surprised when I told her I was there for an order. "Name?" she wanted to know. I gave her my last name, and she disappeared. "They're boxed like you requested," she said as she returned with the first set of 8 boxes. She seemed to be daring me to disagree. They were big boxes - bigger than I'd imagined, tied together and took up a little more than half of the top of the display portion of the countertop. Despite this, I was not ‍ offered a bag or anything that would have helped me transport them the relatively short distance to the car. Even a question about whether I could manage them alone would have been nice. As he left, the first customer spoke to me about his children, smiling as he told me that he had twins the same age as my baby who are 58 years old today. Another customer opened the door for me and my baby after I paid and returned the baby to the car before returning for the boxes. That same customer carried 6 of 8 boxes to my car for me; no member of staff asked if I might need assistance. The strangers in the New Lenox location of Fleckenstein's Bakery were kinder and more thoughtful than anyone who actually worked there. For that reason, even if the baked goods are as delicious and delicate as they smell, I don't think I'll be going back for more. read more

Two times now, I've been in the New Lenox store and felt unwelcome. Both times I was approached by men whom worked there. Never had a problem with any of your female employees. I'm an African American woman that has a college degree and knows when she is not wanted and that goes along with my Money. If you have a problem with different ethnicity's then you shouldn't work with the public! read more

It's ok. The donuts are small compared to other bakeries. Coffee cakes are small too. You can get a bigger coffee cake from from Jewel.

Well I have a great story . My girl ordered my favorite cake (ATOMIC) for my birthday which happens to be on Christmas Day. She ordered it about a week in advance so what could go wrong! Well I had to go pic my own cake up on Monday , a day they are usually closed but due to Christmas being on a Tuesday they were going to be open until noon . I get in the door at 11:15 on Monday and finally got to the counter by 12:10.... 55 min ... 37 customers ahead of me . After some back and forth the girl tells me she can't find my cake on their order sheets . She calls the mokena store and they tell her it's going to be made there but they are really behind and would it be ok if they delivered it to my house later .... I agreed but as the hours ticked by I lost confidence I would have my cake at all . A little after 6 I got a call from a mokena # . The young man explained the situation and apologized and asked me if I still wanted my cake . They had been extremely busy and a lot of orders fell behind . Absolutely I said and he apologized again and said he would deliver it personally. We went out for the evening and when we returned I checked the area I told him to leave it and was pleasantly surprised. Not only did he deliver my cake but he also left a box of Christmas cookies and a large fruit cake ... Bravo Fleckenstein's cake was great ... cookies were awesome and the fruitcake will be passed secretly from relative to relative until it disappears... again thank you Merry Christmas and happy new year read more

I just got my sons baptism cake from here yesterday and it was delicious. Cake was moist, I had a strawberry preserves and cream cheese filling that was delicious. Will definitely order from here for my future cakes. Also their donuts are so good. About the same price as Dunkin' and a hundred times better. read more

The product is good. The customer service - not so good. Kids need better training. I end up leaving frustrated every time I go there. Which is less often lately. And when I found out they were opening I planned to be there every morning :) Kinda disappointed. Twice they charged me incorrectly. Younger girl walks away from Me while I'm talking them hands my box off to another kid because someone she knows walks in and she wants to take care of them. Two times I asked for items that never made it in my box but that's because they are not listening. They are busy talking. Wish they had a manager over there to fix these things so we don't have to deal with it every time we visit. read more

I am a huge fan of the original Fleckensteins so I figured I'd stop in their new space since I was in the New Lenox area. It's located in an easy to miss kind of dated strip mall.......seems like an odd choice for a town that's growing and booming but maybe the rent was cheap? I went in on 4/26 at noonish, I was the only customer in the bakery. 2 women walked out of the back after a few minutes and I immediately got the feeling I was a bother. No greeting, no smile, no customer service skills. Did I interrupt their lunch? I asked a few questions about a cake on display....again, curt quick answers with no seeming interest in providing customer service. Engage me! Sell me on your lovely baked goods! I ended up getting a box of the cupcakes. Disappointed. They were all different sizes, with one of the chocolate cupcakes being significantly smaller than the others. They seemed a few days old.....the buttercream actually fell off of one when we were eating it! I honestly could have went to Jewel and gotten comparable cupcakes for half of the price. I won't give up on the Mokena location but won't return to New Lenox. read more

My daughter is GF (Gluten Free) and my birthday is July 4, I wanted a cake or something sweet that she would be able to eat. I used the Nextdoor app to ask my neighbors what they could recommend, we are new to the area. My husband got 3 chocolate and 3 vanilla cupcakes, they have whipped cream frosting. The New Lenox location is the only one we will go to. They are creative, make the best cakes and actually listen to our needs. In comparison to the Mokena location where the cakes are just so so, no creativity, no passion put into your cake. Normally, my family orders cakes from the Mokena location. My mom decided that she would order it from New Lenox location because it's closer to her. She ordered it a week in advance. When she arrived to pick up my niece's birthday cake, it was not ready on Christmas Eve. They told her they would deliver it to my home. We waited and waited, they never delivered it. We never heard from the New Lenox location. Not one call. Fleckenstein's has been part of numerous birthday and special occasions for the last 20 years but sadly, I think they have lost our future business. read more
