It started with dessert- and by that I mean a tiramisu martini that just sounded too good not to order and it was amazing! As was their wine list. The food was perfectly prepared . And if the menu wasn't enough- lots of Italian fare but also decadent sounding steaks and there was even a smidge of Portuguese if you like octopus. If the menu weren't enough on this day not only were the specials plentiful but there were additional off menu specials as well. If you can't find something to satisfy your tastebuds eat at home from now on. I HAD to order dessert bc I was so impressed to this point and that also did not disappoint. Pistachio cheesecake was a special and it was amazing as was the specialty coffee- which was a generous serving. The service - omg! Beyond attentive, they do not rush you and it's like having your own personal service staff. Cozy, tablecloths, great ambiance- but also not snobby. I went for lunch with a friend on a Thursday. They have a great menu. We both had a drink- mojito and Paloma. They were delicious. We shared baked clams that were amazing with their crusty, fresh bread. They reminded me of a restaurant in Arthur Ave. We both had a chicken dish and shared limoncello cake for dessert. Another stellar dinner at Flames. Fantastic wait staff along with attentive bussers and water fillers makes this place one of my top hot spots in Fairfield county. Dinner tonight was incredulous-burrata chicken and crabmeat chicken cutlet-moist but yet crispy and bursting with flavors with great accompanying sauces. A few desserts are homemade-limoncello cake is light and lemony but great balance of citrus and creaminess - the fried banana dish will always be our final sweet staple here. I cannot say enough good things about this place. I've been there numerous times for dinner and it has always been a great night out. The food is fantastic, the staff is super friendly, and the atmosphere is more upscale. Flames is a true local gem, consistently a 10-out-of-10, and their prices will not break your wallet. Flames was my first choice when hosting a private party of 18. Michael made everything super easy to plan. He had the room set up perfectly - it was a cold evening and he was not shy with the heat. Our wait staff was excellent. They were attentive to all our needs - on top of things before we had to ask. Service was professional, plating was gorgeous, and timing was perfect. My family and I go to Flames often. The food is excellent and they offer great specials. The desserts are the best! The service is top notch! The owner and his wife are a wonderful couple. She handles all the decorations and does a fantastic job especially at Christmas. She also helps on weekends in taking reservations and seats the patrons. Pretty remodel from the exterior and even more beautiful on the inside. Greeted immediately with a smiling host. Sat in a booth in the bar area. Well stocked bar and even better service. It was super hot so I ordered a pina colada. But, unfortunately they did not have all of the required ingredients in stock. Went for the strawberry martini. It was perfection with a lime garnish. Bread served was warm and fresh. Ordered the beet salad and daughter had spaghetti and meatballs. A large portion for kids size which was welcomed. Sauce had cheese in eat which she did not care for. Too it to go and other child loved. My salad was fresh and dressing was delicious. Definitely will be back to sample more items. read more

Great service, very good food. Solid high-end pub ambiance. We really enjoyed ourselves! Cocktail menu is good, although some of the drinks are overly sweet. A standard bulleit old fashioned as our favorite of the night. Arancini was good and the spinach salad was fantastic (but get the dressing on the side or it will be completely drowned)! We went for a much anticipated date night and were bowled over by the quality of the food, the deliciousness of the drinks (very creative option kudos to Lucy behind the bar) and the warmth of the hospitality. Celebrated my sister's 50th birthday tonight. I requested the private room for 13 of our guests and the entire experience was incredible!! First off, the room was set up beautifully. The table was beautiful, the room had lovely decor and the temp was perfect. There was even a table in the corner that we used for gifts. Our server, Kevin, was the best server I've ever had! He was polite, extremely accommodating and went above and beyond for everyone. I can't say enough about him. He even did separate checks upon my request and never missed a beat! Onto the food. Everyone said their meals were absolutely delicious!! I was so excited that our guests loved the food and had such an amazing experience. Expensive with a fairly limited menu. The service was a bit slow but they are also still fairly new. Our server had limited patience for my kids and didn't understand when we tried to ask about changing a meal. Not all Italian restaurants are created equally. My husband and I recently had a date night here and I was overly impressed. We sat at the bar on a Tuesday night and there were only a few of us but the bartender was very engaging and she made a great martini. I had the chicken picatta and my husband opted for the steak. The meals were so delicious that we said we had to go back! Our impression on our first visit was that it was very "white glove" and not really a place to bring the kids. However, they do have a kids menu and we could not wait until we had a babysitter to go back so we went back last night and brought the kids. This time we sat in the dining room and I have no regrets. The kids shared the chicken fingers and fries and there was still enough to bring home. We had the eggplant rollatini to start. I honestly went back to try the chicken burrata but there was a pork special that I opted with because the chicken burrata is always on the menu. YUM YUM YUM, so good! The service, food, and class of this dining establishment needs to be recognized. I also give kudos to the gentleman (maybe manager? maybe owner) that walks around and supports his staff 100%! It is so great to see such teamwork in a restaurant and it does not go unnoticed. Oh, they also have a really cool tool that cleans the crumbs off of the table for you. Wow! First time patron attending on the recommendation of friends. Upon entering on a recent rainy Saturday evening, my wife and I were immediately impressed by the calming decor of crisp white linen tablecloths and each table set with a vase of pink carnations. The hostess promptly seated us and a waitress was immediately present to take our drink order. A note on the service. Exemplary! Our waitress was very polite, charming, prompt and always present for any request. No long waiting times between courses in this restaurant. Now to the food. We both shared a basic house salad which was fresh with a nice house dressing. I ordered the special Osso Bucco served in a special sauce over mashed potatoes. Delicious, tender and the best I have tasted in years. My wife ordered a chicken cutlet stuffed with crab meat and served with a special sauce and mashed potatoes. Also out of this world and enough of a portion that leftovers were my Sunday lunch. The wine selections are varied and well chosen for quality. We finished with a shared dessert of chocolate lava cake and coffee. This restaurant has been open less than a year and has attracted a large clientele. A must visit if you are in the Monroe area. Flames (the old republick place) is an enjoyable relaxing vintage (not American) Italian like cuisine. It is laid out in a relaxing format that does not have you listening to everyone else's conversation. The food is very tasty, and prices are fair and reasonable. Drinks and variety's are plentiful. We done at the gavel sometimes and we also enjoy sitting at the bar. Strongly suggest trying Flames, but also do think reservations prove to be useful. Maybe it was just the night, but I got a weird vibe. There really wasn't anything wrong with our experience. Service was great actually, very attentive, bordering on trying too hard, too desperate. But something just seemed off. Food was good. Not great as others suggest. Not bad either, just not worth a trip back. It reminded me of going to Little Italy or Arthur Ave. Same old style menu, same menu items. Classic I suppose. I did appreciate the portions - they actually are sized properly to allow for a dessert, which to me was the highlight, as well as the limoncello. My question would be why put an Arthur Ave type of place in that building and in the area. There aren't too many restaurants in Monroe, and half are Italian, and also very good. So why compete in that genre? And then compete with the bordering town's restaurants. I think this restaurant would be great in a less densely populated area, with less to choose from. So my final thought is that it's good. But in order to compete with the other restaurants in the surrounding area, it needs to be more unique. It needs a hook, or some reason to go back. read more
