Then a friend of ours recommended Redding Roasters, we bought a pound to try out, and we never stopped. It's a bi-monthly event now, we stop in (OK, my husband stops in most of the time. I work a lot and don't usually have opportunities to go myself), pick up two pounds of single-origin beans, and find the will to keep going. Even though my office has free coffee, I bring my own from home. I can't be without it! And the people there are so wonderful! They're all very personable and when I get the time to stop in I love chatting with them. The selection is great, the people are great, supporting a local business is great. They are some sort of subtenant of the owl market. While this allows them to focus exclusively on coffee, it does create a bit of a disjointed feeling between the food service and the coffee service. However, given that the owl's food is very good, it does not necessarily detract from the overall experience. The roast: it's a bit of an esoteric roast, leaning into the sour cherry type profile. While it would probably do well at an esoteric espresso competition, I personally find it to be a challenge when paired with milk. This is a problem since my primary focus is on milk-based espresso drinks. I wish they would offer a somewhat more traditional roast. My primary descriptor for their espresso is "sour". Finally, while they do have a skilled barista on staff, he is only there part-time. It is imperative, in my opinion, that a coffee shop with this type of positioning ALWAYS have a skilled barista on staff.

I like that I can actually taste the different flavors of the beans when I get black coffee here but today I spoiled myself with a latte. They have a ton of options on their menu for true coffee, lovers, and a bunch of different coffee flavors that they roast in house that I believe you can grind and take home. All of their pastries are delicious and they even have gluten-free options. The inside is really cool if you need to come in and get some work done. I love the community seating options and the seating along the windows is a nice touch. I've been to some of the other locations that Common Grounds has and I like the consistency throughout each one I've been to.
