I've wanted to visit the spot for a while and finally got my chance this weekend. It's located at the corner of McLean and Union and has a very tight parking lot (maybe 5 or 6 spaces) but luckily I was able to get a good spot. Appetizer: Seafood Fries- seasoned waffle fries topped with crab and shrimp meat and serve with spicy mayo. Loved it! Entrée: Yakisoba (焼きそば) Japanese stir-fried noodle dish with chicken, cabbage, broccoli, scallions, a sunny side up egg and spring mix on top. It was absolutely delicious! I was feeling spontaneous, and was in the mood for some ramen and came across Flame Ramen in Midtown Memphis Tennessee. The appetizer I tried was the seafood fries. Which was waffle fries with shrimp, crab meat and topped with spicy mayo and green onions. The fries that I ordered seemed like I got the last that be at the bottom of the bag. It was more little small broken pieces than full waffle fries. But overall, The seafood fries had good flavor, just In my opinion it could've had more spicy mayo and green onions added. For the ramen, I went with the build your own bowl. The first bowl was with Shio broth, Sapporo Noodles, Chicken Chashu, and corn for the topping. The second bowl was with Shio broth, Sapporo Noodles, Chicken Loin, and for the toppings, green onions and toasted garlic. The Chicken Chashu has a grilled sweet teriyaki taste, and the Chicken Loin was kind of like boiled and sautéed with a chili powder spice over it. The wait time for the food was quick. The customer service was polite, the eating area and booths were clean as well. They also have one tv on the wall that I noticed, in my opinion I think it would've been nice to have some news, or sports showing while dining in. Overall I know there other options of ramen restaurants. But if you're in Memphis Tennessee, Midtown area and looking to get some quick ramen see if they satisfy your craving. read more

I have tried the location in Cordova multiple times and this place did not live up to the hype. The building was pretty cold, the floor was wet, and they had fans blowing everywhere. Great Ramen place in Memphis. When we first arrived we were seated right away. For apps we ordered the steamed chicken gyozas and takoyaki. The gyozas were cooked perfect with a flavorful filling. The takoyaki came out fresh that it was still hot in the middle even after letting it sit. The filling flavor was perfect, although I wish there was a little more tako. I had a few small bits and all filling in the ones I ate. Let's get to the entrees. I ordered my youngest a kids Tonkatsu with pork belly. The portion of the pork belly was a good size and tender. The broth was very tasteful that it felt like the bones were still in the broth. My older son got the Ichiraku and that was hands down the best broth I've ever tasted. The chashu that he had in his ramen was so tender that it fell apart when lifted. My husband got the black and red Tonkatsu with pork belly and a little spice added to it. I myself do not like spice, but according to him it was good. I ordered the Gyu donburi. The meat was tender and marinated well. It is served with jasmine rice which is a little different than what I'm used to getting from other places. Honestly the donburi was the least favorite out of everything that we ordered. But all in all this is a great place for ramen. The only thing I did not like is the parking. It's a small lot with about 6 spaces. We got lucky and was able to get the only open spot. read more

We went to Flame Ramen yesterday. It's located in midtown across the street from The Citizen apartments. Although the parking is limited to no fault of their own, it's easy to find. The interior is clean, cute, and well lit. It's like going into a neighborhood ramen shop. I liked the plants hanging near the lights. It added a nice touch of color. There are regular tables, an area of seating facing the kitchen, and also an outdoor area for dining. side note: restrooms passed It wasn't too busy, but it picked up as the night went along. Our server greeted us, and we were given our menus. There is a lot to choose from, and even a special ramen bowl dedicated to Naruto lol. The menu layout is self explanatory, and I liked that the menu had a "what's that?" portion to explain ingredients customers may or may not recognize. You can also BYOB (build your own bowl), which is always fun. We decided on the Shio and Shoyu ramen bowls, and also ordered a bao as an appetizer. I asked the waitress which bao she liked and she said the karaage and the pork belly. We decided on the pork belly. We got our bowls and bao at the same time. The bowls looked nice. You don't expect it to be nuclear hot, but it was just...warm. It isn't bad at the beginning, but it's a challenge to finish a bowl of heading towards cold broth. The first bao we received was also cold despite the guy telling us that it was "extremely hot", so we asked the waitress for another. They brought out a second one. They are visually appealing and while the pork belly was tasty, the bun was also cold. The portion sizes are good. The menu has plenty to choose from, so prepare to spend about $20 individually. Ill give this one a rating: check the pilot light. Unfortunately, there was no heat behind the flames. There were some questionable reviews on this place but I honestly had a great experience. The server was kind and very attentive to my needs, asked how everything was, offered utensils over chopsticks if I needed it, extra chili oil and if I needed or wanted anything else. She suggested the chicken ramen with chicken loin since I don't eat pork. I ate the entire bowl, seaweed, eggs and all. I've been sick two weeks and this spicy broth is exactly what I needed. The last time we went ended up being the SECOND time that a server forgot to put our order in. After waiting for at least 40 minutes this last time, we asked and it became apparent that the order was never submitted. I had an awesome experience at Flame Ramen! The customer service was great, the decorations are super cute, and the food is the cherry on top! To start, I had the steamed pork and chicken dumplings. They were so good. The sauce that they add to them makes them even better. It has a sweet and tangy flavor to them and a hint of season topped on them...delicious! Next, I had a Ramen bowl. It was so good, but be sure to check your spicy levels. I had the 3 and almost ran out of the place, lol! But, I can say it opened my sinuses, whew! We waited and they called us when they were ready for us. Once we were seated, we were served room temp water and had to ask for ice. Like many other reviews have stated, it was pretty warm inside so cold water would've really hit the spot. I noticed that the menu was modified. I had looked at the menu prior to visiting so I'd know what I wanted and noticed that some items were not on the menu that day. Again, no biggie, but I was all excited to try something they weren't offering that day. Okay so what did we order? My friend ordered chicken gyoza and the tan tan ramen. I ordered the chashu bao, shoyu ramen and a side of spicy menma. The gyoza was very good. The chashu bao was also very good. The ramen on the other hand...we've definitely had better. The tan tan was very bland. The shoyu was slightly better, but it was definitely lacking the rich flavored broth I was looking for and used to. The spicy menma was alright. We came and we gave them a shot. Maybe after the hype dies down, we'll visit again. Until then, we will get our ramen fix elsewhere. read more
