Then three dollars for a side of creamy horseradish most ridiculous charges I've ever seen and I travel every single week all over the country. What a joke would've been so much happier driving to Marion for a normal restaurant. Won't make that mistake again. $10 of extra bs charges. Beware. Steaks were excellent! Flounder too! Service was only ok. Mashed potatoes had WAY too much salt. Creamed spinach was good. Onion soup was good. Broccoli was excellent, as were the fries. Our server disappeared for a long time and we were patient, but eventually had to ask others for things. We were never offered a refill on coffee. The stuffed flounder was just ok but in hind sight I should have gotten a burger. They seemed awesome. The mashed potatoes were meh. I couldn't even taste garlic and I had to add salt. We were seated immediately, which was nice. Dalia came to our table pretty quickly and took our drink orders. The drinks took a little bit of time, but not too much. We ordered dinner and it came quickly. DH had the ribeye; it was cooked perfectly and very little fat he had to trim off. I had the risotto with shrimp and it was very tasty. I remember when this place was Murphy's and they had a side salad with the best 1000 Island dressing. It's a little more upscale now as Flame Grill & Bar. My husband and I met an old friend for dinner. The seafood pasta was flavorful but not overwhelming to my delicate palate. My husband had salmon and Caesar salad. Again, very good. Our friend had a chicken dish, one of his favorites. Service was very good. The waiter stated on top of things. Comfortable atmosphere. Excellent service. Ambiance is nice. Steak was excellent. Food was ok overall but excellent if you only order meat/steak. We tried the Tomahawk (bone in steak). Some chicken dish that we ordered was bland even though it was covered in a bbq sauce. Most restaurants don't use real butter but some kine if canola oil blend which is gross in my opinion so I only recommend going there for the steak or the pretzel with beer cheese. read more

After seeing commercials for the restaurant, we made the hour trip from Paducah to try out your restaurant. We didn't have reservations on a Friday night and were told it would be 15 minutes. We waited less than that. We were seated and greeted by our amazing server, Robert. He provided excellent recommendations for us and was very attentive to our needs, even running out to the parking lot to give us our to-go box we had forgotten! The food was delicious--our party had the Surf and Turf, The Filet Special, the pork chop, and the New York Strip steak. Everything was prepared exactly Ike we wanted. Delicious! We've eaten at Flame 5 or 6 times in the last couple years and it's been excellent every time. Tonight I ordered curb-side pickup and we had the Bacon Wrapped Meatloaf, Seafood Tuscano, and Fried Calamari. Every bite was good. It's a bit of a high-end-menu, which is somewhat unique in Carbondale and reminds you of dishes you might find in larger city eateries. The prices are between $15 and $30 a plate and I think that is fair given the quality that I've experienced. Due to Covid they are serving a limited menu and offering carryout only. Granted, it's a Friday night. But, the service was poor. They were out of the special. Only one salad available (Caesar). All 4 of us ordered the same filet but mine was 1/2 the size of the others. Waitress and the manager said is because I ordered medium well and it reduced the size of the steak compared to the others who had just medium. Pretty crazy answer. Wow! Talk about accommodation!! These folks are terrific! We had stopped to have dinner on the patio because we had our pooch with us and it began to rain as soon as we were seated. Our server said "oh this won't do" and moved us to the first table INSIDE! Such a great accommodation! I'm so grateful to these kind people. Their courtyard is very cool and elegant. I totally recommend them even if you don't have a dog. PLEASE go see these guys when you are looking for good food and great people!! read more

A co worker and I stopped by here for dinner last night for our only night in Carbondale on business. The building, logo, and signage were incredibly unimpressive, but we came here due to the high reviews for restaurants in the area. The interior is borderline funny. I told my co worker it felt like an 80s steakhouse...very cheesily decorated. Maybe that wad intentional. The place was very dimly lit like they wanted to make the ambience very romantic. I wanted to give the place 3 stars max, due to the exterior and decor, but our wait service was great and the food wad actually very good. The lobster and spinach dip was very goos, although the pita chips were way too fried in grease. They were almost transparent. I wish I ordered the ahi tuna dish. The ribeye cut was great, but was too much food and I wish I would have ordered something I would have less commonly ordered. But that's my fault. The lobster mac was just okay. My co worker did like her buttered scalloo dish. Overall, I can see why this restaurant averages 4 stars. The premium steak cuts are super expensive though. read more

The Flame is my new Favorite Steakhouse in Southern Illinois. We started by reviewing entrees on yelp but found that a number of entrees pictured were no longer on the menu. Fortunately we started with the Brushetta which was the best I have had. Perfect crunch with great fresh flavors. It could have been a meal in itself. We accompanied this with a bottle of Bodega Norton Moscato from Argentina which was so flavorful and unable to be found anywhere else in the area. For entrees we got the signature Ahi Tuna and the Filet Mignon (See Photos). The steak was expertly aged and perfectly cooked with a choice of toppings. The grilled onions and mushrooms we chose perfectly complimented the steak. The Ahi Tuna was also perfectly cooked with a wonderful "crust" and full flavored sauces. The Chocolate Ganache Cake (See photo) was a perfect stuffed ending to our meal with rich fudge layers. The service was prompt and knowledgeable about the food. The restaurant was mostly full with people waiting to eat when we left. The food was on the medium high side but worth every penny for the quality of the food and wine selection. read more

Recommended by a co-worker so wanted to give it a try. On Thursdays they have 4 course meal, shared with 2 people $50. The meal was delicious. Each person got a salad, shared appetizer, separate entrees and shared dessert. Plus a carafe of sangria! ( Although it tasted more like a mixed drink then sangria, still tasty). Poor service - poor quality of food. Welp, this came as a huge letdown, yet again I wasn't expecting all too much when the waiting staff didn't even show us to the table but just pointed to a spot. Here's where things got interesting, not only did it take way longer than it should have our was unsanitary, subpar and undercooked. For instance, we had to have a steak sent back 2 separate times because it was fully raw. With this, it was the same piece of meat that had been on someone's plate and just thrown back on the grill (this happened twice). After this, we brought it to the managers attention, in which we were essentially called liars until I brought up the the fact of health concern, in which he promptly removed the steak from our bill. Unfortunately for myself by then I already had consumed food that ended up getting me sick later on that night. Not Handicap friendly We basically were told there was no room for my husband who is in a wheelchair. The excuse was all of the inside tables were shoved together for larger groups and the only seating was outside. It was over 90 degrees outside. We were not even given a time frame when a possible table might be available inside. The host acted very sheepish when he told us this. I understand why he acted like he acted. We heard what he was told when he asked where he could seat us. We clearly heard someone tell the host there was no room for a wheelchair. The handicap parking is also in violation of the ADA laws. No van ramp access space available. We have reported them to the Illinois Attorney General. The ADA law was passed in the early 90's there is no excuse for this in this day and age. read more

Good atmosphere - as mentioned in other reviews. This isn't gourmet dining by "big city" standards; but it is darn good for Carbondale. Recognize that out here you get "student fare" or "fast food" usually. We used this as a last dinner before subjecting, uhh... sending our daughter to college for 3 months of dorm food. I'm glad we did. For a reasonable price, we had a very good dinner. Beware... the desserts are BIG....! BTW, the service was top notch. The server even helped our 18-year old understand what was in store for her at SIU- Carbondale. He came back several times to ensure we were doing OK and our needs were met. read more
