We hadn't been to Midland in a while, and now we have been twice in the last few weeks. It's a bit out of the way for us, but worth the drive. Tons of seating inside and out on the patio. Always consistent with the quality of food and drinks they serve. The service from the hostess to the servers is always great. If you go on a busy night, you might have a wait. It can get loud at times, but not intolerable. We had Southwest chicken wraps and fries on one late afternoon visit and it was good. I love their fries. The next time we stopped in was a busy Friday night. We each had a steak (filet and ribeye), which is served with side salad and baked potato. The steaks were both more medium rare than medium, but had good flavor and we still enjoyed them. We also had cheese sticks for an appetizer while waiting on the steaks, and those are served with ranch and marinara. They were good too! read more

This place came recommended for margaritas. They are nice and strong and definitely taste good. Wife had the tacos and they were also tasty and well made. I had brisket dinner. Brisket was made well and absolutely no complaints. Reason for 3 stars is they overlook their sides. They were not seasoned at all. They just threw some cheese over their bland rice and other sides were also bland and disappointing. I'm assuming the Midland Inn is an older establishment because it definitely looks that way. Seems clean enough though. Service could be a lot better as well. My server was not interested at all in being at work. She made that obvious from the greet all the way to the check. My clothes and hair always smell like food when I leave here, I'm convinced they need better ventilation in the kitchen. Friday, October 22 ,2021. I wanted to love this place but i just wasn't impressed. First off we were sat in a room with the PINK LADIES, a group of very loud women enjoying their afternoon cocktails and lunch. And although I'm all for friendly gatherings, it was just unfortunate we were sat in a room where we couldn't enjoy each other's companybecause they were being so loud! Our server seemed a little overwhelmed but she kept it together and got us drinks and took our food order promptly. I must say, the prices here are very reasonable! Kids split a cheeseburger and fries. It looked good and they actually finished it which is impressive. My daughter ordered a bacon cheeseburger, onion rings with a side salad. She says it was alright. Onion rings looked yummy. Her friend ordered the grilled cheese and side of chili. It looked really good and i kinda wished i had ordered chili after seeing it. I ordered the pulled pork bbq nachos. I asked the server if they used cheese sauce or shredded cheese. She stated both, and i asked if she could have the back add extra cheese sauce. She said of course and i was happy. When the nachos came out it was a huge portion. Definitely shareable! It looked good but i didn't see cheese sauce and the shredded cheese was not even melted. The pulled pork was very good but i wasn't a fan of the sweet bbq sauce and it kind of ruined it for me. I was bummed there really was no cheese sauce and my daughters friend said it's on the bottom. So i didn't say anything to the server as i was still trying to reach a bottom when she came by. Well, i found my way to the bottom but really there was almost NO cheese sauce at all. It was all just not good for me. Lots of plain chips. Guacamole tasted like it was a day over perfection. Sweet bbq. Cold cheese. Ugh. The kids enjoyed the plain chips. I enjoyed the pork. They are not very attentive as we waited for 20 minutes before anyone came to seat us even as they seen us standing there and there were plenty of tables. Visited Midlands Inn while visiting the area and based on the reviews it looked like the right place for us. We were craving something fried so we started off with the appetizer sampler platter which came with fried mushrooms, onion rings, mozzarella sticks and French fries. All were really good. We especially liked the fried mushrooms and the French fries were amazing! We also ordered the hot wings which had a really good crust and the hot sauce was served on the side. We really liked these as well. For entrees, we had the 1/2 smoked chicken special (by recommendation) and a few bacon cheeseburgers. All came with fries, and those fries were wonderful! That's where it ended. The chicken was terrible. Not only did it not have any smoke flavor, but it was also very overcooked and dry as shoe-leather. It was really inedible. The bacon cheeseburgers were also over cooked and not very good. The French fries were really the only items from the entrees that we enjoyed. Our server was super friendly and helpful and we really enjoyed our interactions with her. She was constantly checking in on all of her tables and very helpful. I would like to give another star just for her service but this review is really all about the food which I just can't endorse. read more

We recently moved to town and had multiple recommendations from people knowing we moved here to try the Midland Inn. We did, and I get it. We've been back multiple times. I love to sit at the bar, have a drink and watch a game. The wait staff and bartenders are friendly, fast paced, and consistent. The building has great indoor and outdoor seating options. The menus got plenty of variety and foods been spot on each time. And my girlfriend says their margaritas are as good as the hype says. When you try to find this place, you will seriously have to look really hard or you will miss it. The name is pretty deceiving. It's called Midland Inn so I thought it was like a restaurant within a hotel. WRONG! From the outside, it looks like an old bar. If you are driving at night, you will not see the name of the restaurant. The main distinguishing feature is a bright, Budweiser sign. The food is very well priced, cheap to be exact. You can get just a steak sandwich for 6 bucks. What I like about their menu is that for certain items, you can choose whether or not you want sides (for an extra fee). You can also get just the main item for the light eater. The quality of the food is not as high as I would have liked. The ribs were dry. Wednesday is their crab night. It's like two pounds of crab for some price (under 20 bucks). It's hard to find seafood in this area. I've been here several times through the years and it is one of my favorite restaurants in Southern Illinois. Tonight I had the crab leg special served on Wednesdays only. 2 pounds of crab and I am literally STUFFED! They serve it with the candles to keep the drawn butter warm which is a must and rare around here. No other place does this that I know of. I forgot to take a picture of my crabs before I started eating them because I was just too excited to dig in. Service tonight was superb. They practiced good social distancing and I felt like they took every step possible to keep their customers safe. There is also outdoor seating available, bar and slots for entertainment. The margaritas are probably the only good thing at this place. The food is meh but most of the time it is undercooked or overcooked. They can never get it right. I've been at this establishment three times and have had this luck every time. To make things worse, one of the servers sneezed very close to may food and it may have gotten on the food. I didn't eat another bite after that. The server apologized and was a good sport about it but the managers were being very difficult and would not reimburse me. I had never eaten here in all my time as an SIU student but decided to visit this past weekend to try their food! I love their margs - but the food... man Illinois does NOT know how to do Mexican. First we get there and the bartender starts complaining about us having a group of 6 and no where to put us. (It was a Saturday at 3 PM and due to their V-day special there was plenty of waitstaff already there for i'm assuming that reason and plenty of space for us to sit). Margs were pretty solid, our waitress was kind and great. But after waiting for an hour for all of our food, I get COLD food. I ordered the chicken fajitas and for $16 and got approx 4 small slices of ice cold chicken and lukewarm veggies, beans and rice. I didn't want to be an a** and I thought I was crazy and everyone confirmed, yep its fridge cold. It's fajitas... and you can eat fajitas that have been sitting out at a cookout for HOURS and they still taste semi warm and good. If my food took that long , they could've at least nuked it in the microwave for 30 seconds (I know what they do in restaurants, no shame in the game). Won't return for the overpriced and eh food, but will be returning for the margs. read more

Too many people would go as short as to label this a "hidden gem", but instead it's more of a secret cove of treasures. Tucked away off of Old Route 13, Midland Inn is perhaps on of the best places to place an order for a jumbo margarita and enjoy a country feeling with a plethora of friendly locals. Waitstaff will always share a genuine smile that provides a relaxing mood for enjoying one of the best BBQ places in the area. It's worthy to note: if you're looking for fall off the bone ribs, that yield notes of tender-loving care, then this is the place. Although the prices are low, they are in no way indicative of the portion sizes nor quality. Either inside or outside, both are great environments to meet up with friends and enjoy the hospitality that Southern Illinois has to offer. Personal favorite aside from the ribs and a fair-priced old fashioned is their pulled pork sandwich with a side of baked beans and fries. And the place was FULL of local flavor... right up to the guy who rode up on horseback and tied up to the outside dining area. That's right! Saturday night prime rib on 5/14/16 Honestly, we have had great chopped sirloin there. This trip we decided on the prime rib special. Sadly the prime rib was clearly 1-2 days old and pre cut portions. The baked potato was equally as old. It was gummy. This should never be the case with a baked potato. It should always be fluffy. When it's gummy it's because the starches have solidified. I have 3 years training as a chef, and 20 years in restaurant experience. I don't like to post negative reviews, but in this case it's warranted. A prime rib should never be dry, it should be cut off the roast just before it is to be seared on the grill. When a cut is dry, it means that the said cut has been sitting and the natural juices drained. My advice is simply, ask if the rib roast is fresh. I am not sure we will be revisiting. read more

Stopped in with friends on a Monday at 5 pm, and the outdoor patio and tables inside were 80%occupied--on a random Monday! They have their own smokehouse! Best kept secret between Carbondale and Murphysboro on country club road. Long-time owners have ratcheted this up from a dive bar open after the others closed to an affordable delicious dining destination. They have their own smokehouse on the property. Two friends got the "all you can eat ribs" for $13 (special today). I just had the outstanding pulled-pork with a baked potato and coleslaw. This slaw was a little yellow-looking! But it was fresh cabbage tossed with a great tangy tart sauce (was it paprika in the color?). Not mayonaise-drowned excuse for a vegetable. My other friend's quesadilla came with fresh guacamole and pico de gallo. I paid less than $20 for my my pulled-pork dinner and her quesadilla, and that included her draft beer while i enjoyed fresh lemonade in the open air! We went here about a year ago.... Food was bland and definitely not Tex Mex as described.. no spices - we added pepper to try and give it some oomph..but it still tasted bland.
