It's a bad looking place. Busted floor rugs and slippery tiles. The food is open buffet style and it's all dried out. I selected what I thought were chicken wings but turned out to be thighs (I don't like thighs) and vegetable lo mein. The chicken was chunked and fried without any particular focus on seasoning. Stopped by to get a smoothie....not my first time coming into fix u plate not a huge fan of the food and service. I try to stick to the smoothies for a healthier and safer alternative. My experience tonight was pretty annoying...I noticed their was no one at the smoothie bar so I walked up to the register for help. The cashier told me a woman would help it was very back and fourth. I got the smoothie but was pretty unhappy with the service. Haven't gotten a smoothie ever since and the food is okay, during a pandemic I wouldn't suggest buffet food although they take safety precautions. You have to wash your hands before coming in and also you can't talk over the food. The customer service is alright. When you walk in, there are signs posted no phone use, no outside gloves, must wear a mask, no talking near the food and you must wash your hands before serving your food. Food was seasoned well. I didn't even take 5 pieces of a variation of meats let alone 5 pieces of oxtail... this is sheer distrust of the customers that is keeping you in business... I am absolutely horrified and utterly embarrassed at the treatment I received today. What I should have done was leave the food right there and walked out, let them deconstruct and see how much pieces of oxtail was in there. I asked for the manager and was told the manager wasn't there, I asked for the name of the manager and she refused to give me the name, she told me they do not give names out. Like really??!! Fix is a great fix when you get off the L or are in need of home cooked food you didn't cook. It is a Caribbean buffet so you will get traditional dishes out of the culture, mainly Jamaican. There are different prices and you can't speak over the food as you order. The ladies who stand on the side will not have it!! And that is a good thing. Been going here since early 2017 and will always support. Fisherman's Cove is a few doors over but they both have their food fans so both will do well. I ran like hell to this place because I was dying to see what they serve. It's a Jamaican buffet. It's a no-frills joint so don't expect anything fancy but at least they have seats and a small tv to keep patrons entertained. There's small and large containers ready for customers to grab whatever it is their tastebuds desire. Like I said, it's Jamaican food so you'll see various types of rice & peas, oxtail, stew chicken, bbq chicken, bbq ribs, curry chicken, curry goat, stew fish, escovitch fish, stew peas and everything in between. There is also a salad and fruit area as well as a variety of juices to choose from including sorrell (there's a sorrell fountain fam LOL), peanut punch and homemade limeade among other things. Plus conventional soda, juice and water. Oh, and there's an in-house juice bar which I never purchased anything from but I saw one guy cop something. Fix-U-Plate closes at 1 am so if you need that late-night fix then they're open. Cash and cards are accepted but to use your card the minimum is $10. One day I attempted to receive a refund for food that was obviously spoiled, tasted by both my myself and family. The chicken had a foul and pungent odor and left a bitter aftertaste in my mouth. The associates stated that the food was completely fresh and that it could've been my palate. I assured him that I had the same meal 3 days ago, and was quite capable of recognizing spoiled food. The food is fresh and delicious if you like Jamaican collard greens, baked macaroni and cheese and you taste the cheddar cheese and evaporated milk in it that makes it creamy and the escovitch fish was fresh. I started going to this place because its right across the street from where I work and it was ok because I can't eat too much salt and I have never known a Jamaican restaurant that can drain all traces of salt from salt fish. But I have to say the customer service ladies ALWAYS have a stink attitude & are more friendly with each other than the actual customers. As a Black owned business, they need to not be apart of the stereotype & step up their customer service if they want to succeed. Also the ones on the floor probably mean well by trying to assist people when they're choosing their meal, but it can be very nagging when they follow you around & constantly ask if you need help in the process. read more
