Five West has a special place in my heart since it was where I met my now Wife on our 1st date. We met for brunch which I remember to be fairly decent. This was where we also ordered takeout during our low-key pandemic wedding. Recently, came back to celebrate our 1st date anniversary and the experience was a-ok. Overall, the food was quite greasy, a bit pricey (comparable to Pescara-like places though clearly in different categories), and not as memorable as I would have hoped. Ordered: - Boneless Wings (2/5). This was disappointing. It tasted bland and something coming from Chef Mike (microwave). We went for the bourbon BBQ but may have had better luck getting the siracha mango flavor (don't think that is a frozen food flavor...) - Nashville Chicken (3.5/5). This was not to bad. It looked pretty authentic and had the heat that was expected of a Nashville chicken sandwich. Only comment to add was it was a little greasy. - Beer Battered Walleye (2.5/5). For some reason, I was expecting a bigger cut of walleye but it came back to be fairly small. It was really oily too from the walleye, potato wedges, to the salad - Maple Bourbon Fried Chicken (3.5/5). This was probably the best dish we ordered that night. Stopped in for diner with my wife this week. I was disappointed that the Beef Short Rib had been taken off the menu. I thought about having it ALL DAY after learning we were going there! I hope it comes back soon as it was the best I've ever had!! I tried the Nashville Hot chicken sandwich with Tatter Tots. Very good spice and it wasn't "nuclear" as anticipated. Mike heat and moderate breading on a bed of coleslaw and nice bun. I'll go pack again but will be looking for the Short Ribs!! read more

We (2 guests) were sat at 4:55 and there was only one other table (4 guests) in our servers section. We sat for 5 minutes and were brought water by the host who informed us she would notify the server we were waiting to be greeted. Another few minutes went past and another table in the section was seated. I saw the server in the back talking to her peers seeing we were waiting. Our server went to the new table and avoided any eye contact with us who had been waiting for several minutes, took their drink order and walked away. We waited for a few more minutes and the server had the drinks for the new table. Only when we got up to leave the server turned around to attempt to greet us. We had already decided that we were not going to spend any money at this establishment. If there was at least a simple table touch from the server or acknowledgment of our existence this could have been remedied. Very disappointed, but the host that seated us and checked on us was very kind and even brought us waters when she saw our server had not greeted our table. read more

Just one word to describe the breakfast menu: yum! This is our second time coming and the food somehow seemed to get even better. We love love love the cinnamon French toast (tip, ask for extra Crème Anglaise). My husband particularly loves the breakfast burrito (we sub chicken for the sausage and bacon). It reminded us of the burritos we had in SoCal, which is where we lived for several years. Top it off with Cholula and that is a delish burrito. Service is also consistently great. My husband and I have been here 3 times (once in 2022 and twice in 2023). Ambiance is great; it is essentially a sports bar with lots of seating. The first time we went for dinner. My husband's salmon bowl was not fully cooked, but I thought my food was good. We would give our initial time and dinner experience an average of 7.5/10. The second time we went for brunch. The food was significantly better this time around, and we were impressed! We would give brunch experience an average of 9/10. The third time we went for lunch. My husband ordered the ahi tuna salad which came with 3 large pieces of lettuce and tortilla chips; he was expecting more of a salad since this was listed under the salad section. I ordered the chicken salad which tasted good; however, the chicken was really overseasoned. We did enjoy the chicken wings as the appetizer. We would give our lunch experience a 6/10. Overall, I think there are better options around town if you're wanting more high quality food for the same price. This place is great if you're wanting to watch a sports game. I believe it's a little overpriced, and they charge a % of your meal for employee wellness. Probably won't be back again - unless if invited by friends. read more

Visiting family in Rochester and staying at an AirBnB. After having my kids Dino Nuggets two days in a row for lunch I demanded something delicious and chose Five West. Suffice to say, I wasn't disappointed (at least with the food). It was Sunday brunch and so I made a reservation for 10:45am. When we walked up the parking lot was packed (Pro tip: park in the Comfort Suites parking lot next door). The front of the house also had 6-8 families congregating, but when I finally made it to the hostess, I let them know I had a reservation and was seated promptly. Our server seated us (2 adults, 3 small children) promptly, and brought us all waters, and then disappeared for 10-12 minutes. This isn't an exaggeration. I timed it. Yes, I'm that guy. When he finally returned, he asked if we were ready to order. We asked about the portions of the appetizers. He indicated that we should share one, but that we probably couldn't finish two. Challenged accepted. Since we visit Rochester about every other year, we splurged and went for three. We were thinking of the Buffalo Chicken Wontons, Bacon Cheeseburger Eggrolls, and Lettuce Wraps. Our server said these were all good choices and if we only got two, we should do the wontons and the lettuce wraps. He was right. The wontons (cream cheese, shredded chicken, celery and green onion served with ranch) were unlike anything I've ever had and they were excellent. My wife said they could use a *little* more sauce, but I was pleased, both with the amount of protein, the crunch of the wonton, and the bed of slaw (to cut the heat; albeit not that hot). 4.5/5 The lettuce wraps (crispy chicken, spicy soy peanut sauce, sesame citrus slaw and bibb lettuce cups) stole the show for me. Even better than the wontons. Five West really lets the chicken shine here... big crispy pieces with the right amount of soy peanut sauce and citrus slaw (i.e. they don't mask the flavor of the chicken). 5/5 As for the eggrolls (jalapeño bacon, ground beef, onions, pickles & cheddar jack cheese), they were a little soggy. All the the ingredients really mix in together and nothing stands out. My wife thought there were too many onions. These were perfectly fine, but I'd honestly rather have Chili's southwestern eggrolls. 2.5/5 As for the kids' menu. There's plenty of bang for your buck here. The kid's cheeseburger with fries was only 6 bucks, for a sizeable portion. All in all, the food was awesome, and I'd definitely come back, especially if were able to escape our kids for a couple of drinks with a meal. A few things I didn't love. - Our server came to our table 4x total. Once to bring us water. Once to bring the food. We flagged him down for more water, and then to bring the check. - I think the employee wellness thing is a bit eye rolling, but the amount is relatively inconsequential. - The most annoying thing is that they stand over you and make you check out with one of those handheld kiosks, which, of course, only offers 20%+ as your tipping options. Our server, while perfectly polite and knowledgeable, wasn't very attentive so I was trying to do 18% math in my head while he stood over me (i.e. pretty uncomfortable), and candidly, just not cool, but perhaps I'm old fashioned. read more

I've dined her many times. Consistency is and has been an issue. For example, we love their Queso appetizer. But sometimes the Queso bowl is meat forward, sometimes it's more of a soup and one wonders "Where's the beef?" The bang bang shrimp has never disappointed. Breakfast/brunch service has gotten better since my last review. But as of 1/13/23 (Friday the 13th) they added some new menu items. I couldn't resist trying the Caribbean Jambalaya. OMG what a treat! Total party on the palate! Andouille sausage, black beans and rice, chicken plus pineapple salsa. Just enough heat with just enough sweetness. Truly a home run! The appetizer are all between $11-15. Not a huge variety in prices . On my most recent visit I had The Nashville Chicken Sandwich. I expected it to be really spicy it was not overwhelming . The slaw suffered though . Kinda sloppy and bland . The pickles were very unnoticed. The bun became very soggy from the slaw . The fries were just ok . My kids both ordered the Mac and Cheese. It's was very hot and extra cheesy but upon eating it seemed very heavily coated . My kids both ate about half the portions. We will return just not on the top of my list . read more

The manager saved this review by completely owning up to the over cooked eggs, aweful sauted onions on our hashbrowns. We were there in search of good eggs Benedict and sadly disappointed again by what we received. Hollondaise was weak , no red pepper , no lemon ? We just don't understand how so many try & miss the mark. The manager was sent to our table by our server who was sharp, She insisted on comping 1/2 our meal And buying us dessert! Wow what contrast to the manager at Smoak when we actually complained & came to our table to argue with us & refused to comp uneaten inedible pork belly appetizers? The menu is over-thought Americana; if you like a place where all the options have too much on then (eg, every burger has to have a theme and 10 things on it), not a problem. If you like simpler options, not so much. The place is also noisy and there are TVs staring at you everywhere. Why? I don't know. It's hard to have a meal with people who, you know, like and want to talk to here. Three staff are nice, however, which redeems things a bit. read more

We've been here a few times and thought the food was good. However, we went to Five West for their Mother's Day brunch and were disappointed. The eggs on the buffet line were old. The cheesy potatoes and chicken pasta dish had no flavor. The roast beef was over cooked. And I got the first slice. There was a lot of unpeeled shrimp but no cocktail sauce left in the serving bowl. And who serves UNPEELED shrimp for a brunch!?!? With all of the things I didn't like, the Eggs Benedict, that we had to wait quite a while for them to refill, was delicious. I came here for lunch with a colleague - my first impression was a bit of surprise at how busy it was for Thursday lunch! I started with a lemonade that hardly passed as a lemonade since it was very watered down. I ordered the flank steak salad which redeemed my experience. The salad covered the steak and potatoes.
