Best Chinese food ever! By far the most delicious and visually appealing Chinese I've ever had! Definitely worth the extra bucks!

Great place to grab dinner when spending a night out on the town, or if you feel like some next level Chinese takeout. It's quite Americanized but delicious so I'm not one to complain. Portions are huge so show up hungry. read more

I have never had a bad meal or bad experience here. I can't say enough about the food, the atmosphere, or the service. I wish they would rent the loft out for private parties and provide a bartender- they'd never get rid of me. I have heard other speak negatively about the parking but I consider it novelty and part of the experience. If Five Star was just a mediocre establishment I would not park around the corner, hey...it IS Fiver Star after all. Park on the street and take a very short walk. It's worth it. read more

UPDATE: they seem to have improved and I've brought my crowd back. The old waitress left and they don't try to tell me the chicken lettuce wraps are GF anymore. The crispy green beans really can be made this way. Heat seeker shrimp is fried in oil with gluten so not advised if you are sensitive but they are very tasty. read more

I love this place! I just moved away from the Raleigh area but visit Five Star quite often when I'm back in town. I always order the Cripsy Beef and Shrimp Lo Mein - they never disappoint! The food is a little pricey, but very delicious. The atmosphere in the restaurant is pretty swanky on the weekends, too. read more

Five Star is a solid 3 star place. In the business district, it is an inconspicuous restaurant from the street but is very trendy and stylish on the inside. The menu has all the basic chinese entrees, but a great selection of appetizers. The salt and pepper calamari was fantastic. The entrees could have used a little more sauce and flavor in my opinion, but the meats and rice were still tasty. The drink menu was relatively short, and only a small selection of wines by the glass. Overall, I would come back, but given the choice I would choose PF Changs. read more

I have been coming here with my three children for over a decade. The sesame beef is by far spectacular as well as the heat seeker shrimp....perfect, and not too salty as other reviews have stated. This place has great food. I would highly recommend. It is a bar atmosphere, with a separate area for dining. Five star deserves more like 3.5 stars. The ambiance is funky and industrial, layering in quirky elements that fit with Raleigh's up-and-coming warehouse district with more traditional restaurant decore. There are pool tables upstairs, a sprawling bar, and plenty of seating in the back for those looking for a quieter evening. In short, the ambiance is great. I'd honestly vote four stars for Five star if the food was a bit more polished. The food, which is on par with most Chinese take out joints, is fair. The portions are incredibly generous, but the food is fairly greasy and saturated in sauces that make me question my life choices. Great for hangover food, heavy for a night out and about. read more

Five star restaurant is good for the inibriated patrons whom taste buds have been dulled by the alcohol they serve. But as a foodie five star restaurant food does not stand up to their name. Plus the chicken and broccoli with garlic sauce is a laxative in a box. Not so Chinese chinese food....they can do better the food is bland and tasteless and for the price it is not worth it. read more

Delicious food supported by excellent service. This isn't your typical fast food Chinese more of a eclectic mixture of haute Chinese and simple food. It's all flavorful and well executed, it's exceedingly fast from order to table. The service was exemplary and they were so nice and attentive the whole time. A great dinner experience. read more

If I could give no stars I would, they have the worse service ever. We were a big party because we were celebrating a birthday so we ate our food and ask our server if we could go upstairs to hang out. She said we could so we went and some us started to play pool. Three of us got drinks at the bar they had up stairs and we went back to sit with our friends. Our friends who were playing pool also had drinks in their hands. Next thing we know security comes up to the three of us asking if we had armbands and we said we didn't he said we had to go downstairs and pay $20 to "party" and we asked the guys playing pool if they had armbands and the security guy said they didn't say anything about them just the three of you. So if the bartender had a problem with us getting drinks why not just say she can't serve us instead of running to get security. So the rest of our party got to stay but us, the security followed us outside and everything he was very rude and the bartender was just shady for that. The food was good but because of that experience I will not be going back we spent more than $200 just to get kicked out. read more

The hostess was very rude even though we had reservations. I know it is sometimes difficult for a restaurant to accommodate a big group, but there should be no excuse when a big group has reservations. We felt that we were rushed through the entire meal. The food was okay depending on what was ordered. A friend ordered the crispy beef and it was terrible. There were additional charges on our checks with no explanation. The owner made us feel like it was an inconvenience that we were asking about the extra charges. I would not suggest this place if you are dining with a larger group. Certain dishes on the menu, e.g. the shrimp appetizer, are good, but other dishes. e.g. shrimp curry, Lo mein etc. are immensely under seasoned; putting the seasoning responsibilities into the hands of the customer is smart in certain situations, but it also leads me to believe the kitchen is timid and unconfident in their staff and dishes. Absolutely great food! If I could give them a negative rating on service I would. Granted, we were in a party of 14, (the restaurant was not crowded) but they were very inattentive and pretty bad. There were multiple errors in our checks, and their itemized receipts are not detailed enough to even decipher. I would have gladly purchased more drinks and dessert had I been given the chance or offered but apparently their servers do not care about things like that. They do mandate 20% gratuity on parties larger than 6, and for us they did not deserve it at all! read more

5 Star is amazing place to grab some great Chinese food. The portions are HUGE which is a welcome thing in times when other places keep getting more expensive for less food! Always have left overs that I love the next day. The ambiance can be a little loud sometimes when large or specialty events are going on but if you sit in the back area it isn't an issue. Drinks are made correctly, even sometimes a little strong, and prices are on par with other restaurants. Well worth trying if you haven't! read more

I've never had a bad experience here. The sangria is insane! I've had most of there menu but my favorite appetizers are the crab ran goons (stuffed with real crab and not greasy) and the lettuce wraps (best water chestnuts ever). I'm still upset about this situation. The restaurant portion is great, the food is delicious. We went as a large party to celebrate a birthday at the restaurant. The service was good and the food was great , we had a few mix ups with the receipts but that's understandable. The restaurant turns into a night club at a certain time and we were still there as the club began, one of the staff members LET US go up to the top floor after we paid more than 200$ for dinner. We were a big party of about 10 people. As me and two other of us bought a drink, we have our drinks and the rest of the party were playing pool and drinking as well. One guy, who I assume was "security" came up to the three of us and said that we needed an armband and we had to pay twenty dollars to "party". I asked my cousins who were with us and had drinks if they had armbands and had to pay 20$ and he said no and then the security yelled at me and said well the bar complained about you three so either go pay and or get out and literally followed us all the way out the door while the rest of our party got to stay ( they came out a few seconds after). After paying more that 200$ and we paid for all of our drinks and one of the staff let us stay at the club without mentioning anything about paying , how is it fair to only kick us three out and why didn't the bar refuse us drinks if we didn't have "armbands" and then send the security to kick us out, while everyone else got to stay ?! The security was very rude and even as we were standing outside trying to figure out what to do he came out and stood there watching us as if we were some kind of criminals. We went in on a slow monday night with my mother-in-law and sister-in-law who were visiting out of town. Service was very quick and pleasant. I ordered lo mein with tofu, my husband got sesame beef, mother-in-law got generals chicken, and my sister-in-law got korean bbq ribs. When we got our food everything was GREAT!! our portions were huge.......except for the fact that my sister-in-law literally got 2 3-inch sticks of meat with barely any meat on them......it was so funny I should've taken a photo! The fact that the portions of noodles and rice on our plates were so large.....and then they bring out 3oz of meat just thrown on a plate and charged us $8.95 for it is very questionable! My mother in law even asked the waiter if they were serious....he offered nothing else... no substitutions for the cabbage that she did not want with it. It was quite terrible customer service on their part. All he said was "that's what it comes with". How are you going to throw GIANT portions on three people's plates then give the fourth person a plate with a sorry excuse of two "ribs". It was quite embarrassing on our part because my husband really wanted to show his mom and sister a good time at a restaurant that he frequents often. We may give them another chance, but until then i am very unimpressed with their customer service. read more
