I have been here a few times since my regular place closed and each time it hasn't been good. I think it's the specific nail tech because I had her last time and this time and they were equally poor jobs. I got a no chip fill in and she skips steps of the process, doesn't have you wash your hands after using the electric file so there is debit under the polish on almost all of my fingers. There's left over acrylic and no polish on each of my fingers. The shape is boxy and inconsistent. This place is in walking distance to my home so it's convenient but next time if they assign me to the same tech I'm going to have to say no thanks. I don't want to hurt anyone's feelings so I didn't say anything today even though I should have but it's far too expensive to leave with crappy looking nails each time. read more

Instead of fixing it correctly, she rushed through and I assume didn't dry the bottom properly, so I ended up with even worse nails--- with bubbles. Hello, I was referred to your establishment by a friend and her nails always look nice. I usually do my own manicure's, but since I was renewing my vows in Vegas on Dec 1st, 2025, I thought I would treat myself for a full set, gel manicure. The young man that waited on me was nice, I wanted a french manicure with no pink. He said it wouldn't look pink, but when he was done they still were pink. At that point I said just polish all white, which looked awful with so many layers of polish and looked terrible. He offered to redo, but I had been there so long I just paid and left. My husband said they looked terrible. I could not go back because we were leaving for Vegas. I had to pay another salon in Vegas to fix the mess of my nails. Will not be going back. Came here with some family members for my sister in laws birthday and thankfully we had an appointment as it was really busy. My pedicure was okay. Nothing special. Average for the price and the area. She took me back to her station for my manicure. Started clipping at my cuticles and the next thing I know, something hurts and I look down and im bleeding! She immediately starts putting this weird blue/green drop on it which stings but doesn't even tell me what it is! She keeps trying to stop the bleeding with a paper towel but she never put gloves on now that blood was present! It was very unnerving. She put more drops again and I finally asked what that was. The paper towel was pretty well coveted with little red drops. She wanted to continue with a manicure and I said no as I had an open wound! I've never had this happen before anywhere else. She gave me a bandaid and I paid for my pedicure. I gave her 20% tip for the pedicure but I was just in such shock. Eventually later on, a guy came up to me and apologized and gave me a $10 gift card for my next visit...but that won't be happening. The way things were handled when blood was present and lack of cleanliness just bothered me. read more

I normally go here for regular manicures and pedicures. I went on February 10th with my mom and we decided to try dip nails for our manicures. Form talking with friends my understanding of dip nails is that they are a healthier option for your nails. They don't use uv light, and if your nails are super short, like to the quik, you can get extensions to make them look better while your actual nail grows out. And they should last 4 weeks. Well within two weeks, my nails were lifting and I broke one. I just broke another one yesterday. Needless to say for the price I'm not happy. I don't recommend getting dip nails here. Stick with the regular manicure or no chip. The aggravation and price is not worth it. The staff are all very nice and the shop is very clean, but don't get a dip. read more

This salon is excellent!! Davi, the owner, is awesome. Their level of customer service is beyond what you would expect when you pull up. Hot stone pedicures are the way to go!! I have never had one before coming here and let me just tell you that they are probably the best thing I have ever had done to me in a salon. You get massaged with hot stones, your tootsies rest in hot wax (which at first I thought was totally weird, but then fell in love with it) and then they finish your pedi by polishing your nails in any way you choose. I most recently got a french pedi and mani and they did an awesome job. Of course, it was the week of my wedding and they wanted to make sure I was perfect and I really was. You can bring in wine or snacks if you want to make it a little girls night. We did this with some of my bridesmaids for my recent wedding. it appears that people do this regularly. The staff is very accommodating and sooooo sweet about it. I have been going to another salon for the past few years and the one and only thing that I like better about the other place is that they color coordinate the nail polishes. I wish 5 star did this. It would make all the difference in the world if they took the time to do this. But hey you can't always have everything you wish for. read more

After several seesaw experiences, I have come to grips with the fact that my former go-to salon is not a "five star" establishment. When you visit during a slow week, you are treated as a valued customer. If there is any amount of volume, you are not. Even with an appointment I arrived and was asked to come back later or wait because it was busy. So I did. I returned 30 minutes later as requested and then sat another 30 minutes only to be told someone else will do part of the service. There is no apology perhaps because I have been coming a while and knew my lady had been out a few days and wanted to make as much money as possible to catch up. What she did offer was a spill about how busy it was and how many people came in for service all at once many whom asked for her each time. Being the last customer of hers that day had a hefty price. I had to point out my cuticles were not trimmed, the top coat was not applied and the polish did not cover the whole nail on a few fingers. This has happened before but not several mishaps in one sitting. Usually she answers the phone or sends a text and forgets where she left off. But today was the pretty frustrating because I left the salon only to go home and remove the polish that had been painted on my skin. I felt I had pointed out enough for one day. After a few similar experiences like this, I genuinely believe the need to do your best all the time is not a focal point here. Having the cleanest shop in town and the cutest smocks around means nothing if you put profits (starting as many people as possible and overbooking) before people. If you are booked or you overbook appointments, allow a colleague to do the work or reschedule for another day. Squeezing in every walk in and appointment solely to leave for the day with fatter pockets is simply tacky. Especially when the decision to do so results in poor quality. read more

I have been coming here on and off for over 10 years. The reason for the "off" time is typically due to poor service - today I called and booked a spa pedicure. Everyone knows a spa pedicure is more in depth than a basic pedicure. I mentioned 3 times upon check in. I was here for a spa pedicure. In the middle of the pedicure, I quietly said... this does not seem like a spa pedicure and the owners girlfriend ignored me and continued on. I've never had a pedicure last less than an hour. I tried to tell her this at check out, I said I'm still going to tip well but this is not what I asked for. She told me I should have known that the spa pedicure is the basic and I needed to ask for the deluxe. Truthfully, she should have tried to upsell me Then when I call to speak to a manager, I conveniently get her and she says I can talk to her because she's the owners girlfriend. I try explaining my disappointment but she keeps yelling at me and then said I was being MEAN. I was being polite, respectful and in fact apologetic trying to explain why I was upset. She told me Lynn was not available nor Hannah, and I know both those professionals would have just said sorry for the misunderstanding as that is all I was looking for. The owners girlfriend told me she's fine with losing my business when I've gone there over 10 years and screamed at me. So no I won't be back, and hopefully this review helps you from going there as well. Well ladies, it's time for an update. Basically, if I could give you more than five stars, I would. Without hesitation. Since my sister's wedding in November 2012, I have been here regularly for a no chip manicure. I'll tell you...I cannot for the life of me figure out why I never did this before. They do a beautiful job and the only issues that I've had have been my own. I slammed my finger in a car doors. Oops! This damaged my nail. I was cutting food to prepare to cook dinner. I had gloves on and my extra sharp knife sliced right through the glove damaging the nail. Oops! I jammed my finger and busted a nail. Oops! The good news is that once they do the (inexpensive) repairs that it's just like new. I've gotten better though. I wear my winter gloves to protect my hands and don't make dinner without food prep gloves. I do work in an office with a lot of paperwork, so my hands dry out, but again that's my deal. This salon is pretty large, very clean and loaded with friendly staff. They work very hard to make sure that you have a nice experience. I've noticed that my nail artist goes out of her way to take the nail/paint dust to the garbage can in the back. She would never shake that on the floor. It's slippery stuff. I just feel like they pay attention to the details here. Don't get me wrong, they are very busy and get a lot done in a short period of time. But I never feel rushed and I enjoy every visit. Why do I do this? I say I'm DONE with a place and then go back at some later point as if to confirm my boycott or look for hope. In this case, my gel manicure was falling apart and I was RIGHT THERE. sigh... The manicure I had was done elsewhere lasted a solid 2+ weeks. Two weeks of perfection. The French Manicure I got at Five Star was solid Five Star job. That means NO NO NO. Here's why... 1. Old polish remained around the edges 2. It was sloppy with the tip line uneven. I also like my FULL nail to be covered. Leaving a big gap at the sides makes the manicure look old pretty darned quickly. 3. I'm one week into this and it's starting to peel. Grrr... Update: The only thing that made this manicure limp its way to 1-1/2 weeks was the fact that it was a French manicure. All of the peeling wasn't as noticeable. I just had my nails done elsewhere and they are stunning perfection. In comparison, the Five Star job looked like it had been done with a paint roller. read more

I really wanted to like this place after reading all the other good reviews. The color selection is definitely fab, but not all nail techs are created equally. My girlfriend treated us here for my birthday after trying to find a decent place that was a midway point for us. We were walk in appointments and did not have to wait at all. My mani pedi service was ok---significantly better than my friends---I was left bleeding---but mine could've been neater---there was still nail polish on my edges and right under my nails. I made an appointment for 2 pedicures at 10:30a the day before. We got there on time, signed in & no one was waiting before us. We had to wait about 10 minutes before going to pedicure chairs. We put our feet into the water & waited & waited & waited. A couple came in & sat down in chairs next to me & another woman came in & sat in a chair next to my mom. They were serviced before we were. Remember I did have 10:30a appointments, it was now 11:05 and We had been sitting in water for 25 mins with no acknowledgment . So aggravating & annoying. We got up & left. As We were walking out the owner Aaron said " sorry" unfortunately this was the second time(no chip fill before holidays) I had to wait a really long time for a scheduled appointment & watch other customers get serviced. I've been a 5 Star Nails Customer for about 4-5 months now. (Consistently returning every 2 weeks) and I've only had only positive experiences. As for the negative reviews.....not sure what to say. Maybe someone went on a Saturday at noon? Aka the busiest time! My visits have been great! 1. The salon is trendy and clean inside with many pedicure and manicure stations. I've never had to wait for longer than 5 minutes 2. TONS of classic and new color suggestions 3. Friendly technicians who talk as little or as much as you prefer 4. They offer you water and/or coffee 5. Prices for services are average. $25-30 for no-chip and $25 for a basic pedicure. 6. They are quick! I don't have time for slow service 7. The initial lady would shove my hands back towards me when saying to put under the lights. Ignorant back left second booth before last with glasses... Buyer beware!!!! I went with a friend to check out this place. She said 5 Star had lots of color choices for the no chip manicure. My nail technician was very difficult to understand and I had a hard time communicating with her, although she was very nice. When she finished the 2nd coat on my no chip she noticed the paint was not setting correctly after drying. She took the orange sponge buffer and tried to buff off the top coats of paint to repaint it and even it out. After putting it under the light, the same thing happened. The paint was wavy and not setting. The technician tried to use the sponge buffer again to remove the nail polish and by this time my skin was raw. She painted over the the nail once more. After drying the paint had settled poorly again and the technician decided to completely remove the polish on my thumb nail by wrapping it with a cotton ball soaked in acetone. This making me cringe and clench my teeth to fight back the pain from the broken skin being burned by the acetone. She painted the nail again and had the same problem and finally called her manager over. The manger noticed the broken skin and seemed to scold the technician. I couldn't understand though because they were not speaking in English. The manager explained that the polish needed to be applied harder and not as thick. She also told me that I needed to watch how I was placing my hand in the dryer. However, I was very careful not to bump my hand in the dryer. Believe me, I had enough practice just in this one visit and have had several no chips prior. The manager fixed my nail and then applied liquid bandaid to my skin. She offered to take $5 off my charge for the visit. I did not want to complain or make it a big deal because my technician really tried to make it look better. Looking back and now being able to really see what the damage is after the liquid bandaid has worn off, I really wish I had spoken up while I was there. When I went home that night and had to ice my thumb all evening because it felt like it was on fire! Since then, I've been applying neosporin and keeping it covered with a bandaid. Never have I ever had an injury so bad from a manicure. It is now 2 days later and the site of the broken skin looks worse! It's all red and puffy. I hope it's not infected. I really wish I had said more when I was there. Hopefully with this review others will be encouraged to speak up if they are cut during their manicure. I would seriously rethink going to this place. Not only because of my poor experience but because of their ridiculous charges for new customers. Their prices are comparable to other salons, but new customers are charged $5 more than returning customers. If you want a salon where the employees are kind and do their best for you while doing the little extra things, check out Prima Nails in Carol Stream at the fountain. They are awesome! The first thing the tech was that it was going to be $25 so I asked her why since all nail places charge 17-18 dollars and she said because of the length and shape. I have never been told that anywhere else - I get my nails done every 3 weeks plus my nails ain't long. Anyways she went ahead and got them done. I didn't notice how terrible my nails look until I got home and my nails are finally dry. 3 nails on one hand are missing fill. The fill was applied to the top part of nail only.
