The only thing that wasn't quite to our taste was the lasagna, as the sauce was a little sour for us, but overall the food was excellent. The desserts were really nice, and the cocktails were great too! The restaurant is usually very busy, which says a lot about how popular it is, the staff is always friendly and welcoming. Our group had made a reservation for a birthday; we were seated quickly and the ambiance inside was wonderful with dim lighting, candles, and fancy decor. We ordered the bruschetta, burrata, and Tuscan nachos for our appetizers, all of which were flavorful and delicious. Portion sizes were fair. For our mains, we ordered a vegetarian risotto and gnocchi pesto - risotto had an understated flavor that was great and the gnocchi was cooked perfectly. We also made modifications to the Italiano pizza to be vegetarian - caramelized onions and bell peppers instead of the meat. Our requests were accommodated easily and with the hot honey, the pizza was a group fave! Slightly pricey, but that is to be expected with a spot like this. Good vegetarian options. Delicious Food, Warm Service -- A Great Dining Spot with Minor Flaws We recently dined at Five Restaurant for the second time already and overall had a great experience. Food From the specialty menu, we tried the Caprese, Lobster Ravioli, and Pescatore Linguini, along with a glass of wine. The food was flavorful and beautifully prepared -- the sauces on the pasta dishes were impressive. My only small critique is that the Pescatore Linguini needed just a touch more salt. Dessert was a treat: we ordered the Lava Cake and Chocolate Bread Pudding. The flavors were rich and satisfying, although the bread pudding was slightly undercooked in the center. Still, we really enjoyed both. Service The service was exceptional. Our server was incredibly professional, attentive, and kind -- a noticeable step above others we saw working that night. He made sure we felt taken care of from start to finish, which made the evening even more enjoyable. Interior Sitting The restaurant's interior was stylish and comfortable, but the seating for two was quite tight. Tables were placed too close together, which made it difficult for my pregnant wife to get in and out easily. It also felt a bit awkward to have conversations with other diners so nearby. Today, we celebrated our 46th anniversary. To celebrate we ordered dinner from Five Restaurant. It was a good choice. We have been so busy harvesting and processing our figs. My husband has always loved to garden. This year he became a Master Gardener through UC Agricultural Natural Resources Program (UCNR). We now have over 40 fig trees and many varieties of figs. They are so delicious! Neither of us wanted to go out after a hard day of work. Our food was delicious! Five Restaurant has various Italian dishes to choose from. There are also different ways to order. For example you can order "Family Style" for four or more in a special fixed price. They also have a "Taste of Italy" meal ($25.00). You get an entree, a delightful, delicious Verde salad, the main course and a dessert for a very reasonable price. Having choices like this is wonderful. These days we all have to watch our budgets. I think it's a plus and incentive for everyone. Everything was so delicious. We will definitely come back. It was an excellent experience! read more

There are many excellent Italian restaurants in Fresno, but Five cannot be surpassed. The food is flavorful and brings back memories of Italy. Our favorites are the rigatoni monterosa and the bucatini alla mama -- both delicious and served in plentiful portions. And any meal should start with the bruschetta...or the burrata...or the rustica bread. All great choices that we've enjoyed. The interior is warm and inviting, upscale and still comfortable. Above all is the friendly and helpful staff. From the hostesses to the wait staff to the kitchen to the bartenders to the managers, the people who take care of you really do care. Every time we have been there we have been impressed and delighted by the attention we receive. If we could give ten stars we would. Staff was friendly and our waitress, Brenda, was outstanding. I was anything but impressed with the food however. I ordered a $67 ribeye well done. It was medium at best and was absolutely drenched in what I assume was Bleu cheese and balsamic vinegar. I literally couldn't taste the steak at all! they don't have salt or pepper on the tables and the rest of the meal was completely tasteless. My wife is a chef and she was also less than impressed by her meal. I ordered the 5 Royale cocktail at $15 and it came in the fruitiest champagne flute I've yet to see and it was pink. It may have held 3 ounces. Two sips and it was thankfully gone. I agree that the staff was friendly and the waitress did offer to take the steak back, but when I order a $67 steak, I at least expect it to be cooked as I requested. There's a taco bell across the street from 5 restaurant. As bad as that sounds it would have been preferable to the meal I had. $196 poorly prepared meal. read more

Tomato sauce was also plain.. but it was a generous portion size that can feed two. Ambiance is great although I did think the music was loud when my group first sat down. Service was also a standout, our server (Ryan I think) did a nice job outlining the specials and my glass was always full of water (this is very important to me). As for the food it wasn't my favorite presentation wise and flavor wise which knocked my review down. I normally excuse atmosphere if the food is outstanding but this restaurant had the opposite problem for me. I got the risotto expecting more of a balance of vegetables but I didn't see any mushrooms. I was surprised by the amount of peas. To start off, this restaurant is way to expensive for the food and service you receive. The hostess at the restaurant, said that she was sorry for the lack of accuracy of the order. The apology was fake and our order was missing so many things like forgetting to put in the utensils so we wouldn't have to eat lasagna with our bare hands. We did not have the marinara sauce for our garlic cheese bread. The bread was hard as a rock, stale, and super dry. We ordered two types of bread and they did not even include the rustic loaf that I was looking forward to. The order was rushed, and the quality of the meal was an extreme disappointment. Correcting the order and sending another driver to remedy this awful situation would have been the least they could do. They would not even refund the money. They stated that things were beyond their control. Verification and ensuring that the order was complete and accurate would have prevented this situation in the first place. It was really crowded and noisy with a lot of drunk people. One drunk guy knocked a glass off a table and the glass shattered all over the place. People who came in after us were served before us. This was supposed to be a nice night out for my wife's birthday but we were seated at a very small table for two sandwiched between two other small tables. The food is good overall, they get so packed and parking is ridiculous- we circled like 10 times before we found one. Keep in mind they share the parking lot with several other establishments including Sequoia Brewery. Highly recommend making a reservation ahead of time and carpool if you're going with a group. The service is excellent, the servers are always going above and beyond for you. The wait time for the food is pretty long which Isn't surprising if you go on a weekend. They give you table bread and a delicious olive tapenade. Cocktails are solid-- the French 75 is delish and the espresso martinis are good as well. I've had the salads, carpaccio, pizza, coconut shrimp- all good, haven't had anything I disliked. Went to "Five" to celebrate a late bday dinner for our daughter-in-law. Pat, as always was his usual wonderful, friendly self going around the restaurant and greeting his guests. We love this about him! He sent over dessert for our daughter-in-law for her bday and because she is carrying our first grandbaby! :) We cannot say enough good things about the waitstaff as well. Our water glasses are always filled and our waitress was amazing! We loved the rustica bread and fried artichoke hearts! the buccatini ala mama is superb! Pizza's are "on mark", love the crusts!
