This is a total hidden gem . Probably the best salmon I have ever had . My boyfriend had the seafood pasta which he said was best he's ever had and that's a huge statement for him we go out all the time lol . This is a really great spot in Edmonds. We had the beet salad (really flavorful), the Italian sausage pizza (highly recommend adding some chili oil for kick) and the pork chop (perfectly cooked and joined by delicious potatoes and veggies). we had the pleasure of having loren as our server for my dads 50th birthday. he was an amazing server. he was very attentive and upbeat but also gave us our space to enjoy a nice meal together and celebrate my dad. when our drinks were taking a little long he stopped by and gave my dad a complimentary beer for his birthday. all of us enjoyed our meals very much! the host as well was very helpful in making us feel welcomed and comfortable as we set up some decorations prior to our reservation. wonderful service and wonderful food!! read more

Five is as pretentious as they come. The owner goes sniffing after every blonde in a short skirt and totally ignores other customers. Even those of us who used to regularly patronize his old sub shop. Getting good service is near impossible. And even when the place is empty, they will sit you in the middle of the room. Also, they may have kids menu choices, but they most definitely do not want children in the establishment. Consider yourself invisible to all the staff if you bring kids. The food is not bad, not great either. But when you spend money going out to dinner, you expect to be treated like a guest, not a nuisance. read more

They really need to figure out their staff or train them better. I made a reservation for 6 for a birthday. Took more than 30 minutes to get our drinks. They forgot an entire meal for one person, didn't even acknowledge it and just said it's coming right up. They got their meal about 15 min after everyone else. That meal wasn't comped or given a percentage off. No mention of or a dessert for the birthday. I've had a few bad experiences now but love the food. We had an all around excellent meal at Five on Friday night! For an appetizer we shared the hummus ($8) with toasted flat bread. It was delicious! We both loved the Carne Asada entree with corn on the cob and roasted potatoes ($19). It was a unique take on the traditional Carne Asada and a welcome change. The skirt steak was cooked medium rare and was very tender and flavorful. I had the Five Margarita ($8) and it was very good and pretty strong. Service was great and the atmosphere was fun as always. The restaurant gets pretty loud so it might not be the best place for an intimate date. It is boisterous and lively though! For dessert we indulged in the Stumptown Flourless Chocolate Cake with raspberries which is excellent. I really am a big fan of Five. In the past I've been a little disappointed in their very lean beer list but if you come with the expectation that they focus on wine and tequila you will not be disappointed. I appreciate that they offered one darker beer on tap and hope that they continue to do so. I remember visiting a couple years ago and they didn't have anything but light beers. I'd recommend Five to anyone. The food is fairly reasonably priced for the quality I think and the restaurant is upbeat and fun. In the past I think some of the dishes have been a bit hit or miss but this last visit was superb! One suggestion is I think they should mention the prices when telling guests about the specials. One time I was here with my Dad he ordered the special filet. It was $38! It would have been nice for the price not to have been a surprise when we got the bill. read more

Food....Great! In the barren wasteland of Edmonds this is a real culinary find. Why the two stars? Service. It has to kill the owners to know that they are doing almost everything right behind the scenes, but they are hard pressed to hire anything but mindless zombies to patrol the floor. Questions go unanswered. No sense of interaction with the customer. Each table is left on it's own to a fault. The ultimate expression of this was getting caught in a rain squall on Friday night on the patio. Not one employee came out to check on us or move us inside. It was downright odd. Until they remedy this, I will take my clients and friends for other food experiences. Our friends who joined us were semi-regulars who said the treatment was not out of line with previous experiences. Sad...but really good calamari. read more

Wow, wow, wow. I cannot believe I live so close to this place and have kept driving right on by. They have, by far, the BEST Caesar salad I've had in years. Years, people! And it's artfully served in a Mason jar (sans lid, of course). My husband ordered it, but I kept stealing bites of it because I liked it better than my own salad (which was quite good, by the way). The dressing has quite the garlicky punch, so beware if you are planning on a make-out session later. I ordered the seafood linguine in a white wine garlic cream sauce. The prawns, clams, and mussels were cooked and seasoned perfectly. The sauce was luxuriant and delicious. I ate every bite and left feeling perfectly satisfied, rather than uncomfortably full. The pasta portions are reasonably sized for the price point, so don't expect to be taking home massive leftovers. I can't wait to come back! read more

We stopped in to grab some lunch. We were expecting more choices other than just pizza. The waitress was rude, and didn't check on us very often. For 2 pizzas, 3 salads, 2 glasses of wine, an ice tea, tiramisu, gelato affogato, a small coffee mousse cake, for a total cost of over $130. For 3 people? The food was good, but really? Nothing particularly good here, except the service, which was spot on. However, my family (me, wife, and two daughters) ate early in the evening and so it was not crowded. Not sure how the service would have been had it been busy. Although there were many vacant tables in the place, we were ushered to a table next to another table. Not just next to it--so close that it made the bordering side of our table unusable. They set up two place settings for the kids on one side and my wife and I took the other remaining sides. Not a big deal, as there was enough room for all, but it did make me wonder about the logic of skipping all the other open tables. We ordered sodas, salad, the baguette with butter, and two pizzas - the plain and the smoked mozzarella with pancetta. The sodas came. I immediately took a sip of my daughter's Sprite, just to annoy her (she's six and VERY possessive about her soda!). It tasted like lightly flavored sparkling water--the mixture was obviously way off. I tired my Diet Coke, and it was also off, although much better than the Sprite. I elected not to mention these problems to the waiter--they were still minor. The salad and baguette came. The salad was very good. The baguette was good, but the butter was normal refrigerated table butter, and it took effort to get the hard butter on the knife, then spread it on the bread. Again, this is a minor problem. The pizzas came. The looked appetizing, although we were somewhat surprised at the size--we had ordered the "full"-sized option. I guess eating both of the pizzas would have made me full. As it was, the pizzas were on the smaller side. Quality- and taste-wise, they were just ok. My older daughter commented that it tasted like normal Edmonds pizza and not "gourmet." I agreed--to me it was very reminiscent of the typical low-quality Washington pizza I've had, but using slightly fresher ingredients (except for the cheese, which seemed like they robbed the Kabella's pizza place across the parking lot (which has horrible, horrible pizza). Five's pizza isn't bad, it just isn't great by any stretch of the imagination. This, combined with the other minor problems, really turned me off. I have been here twice now. The food is actually amazing - really fresh and everything came out perfect. The staff has been overly friendly but last night we encountered a situation that made us not want to return. We were seated on the patio since it was a nice evening and half way through the meal we started noticing a noise in the bushes next to us and didn't think anything of it. Well a couple minutes later a RAT came running down the tree that was above us and into the bushes and made us leave our food and run inside. When we told the staff - they told us "oh yes, we've had a rat problem but it's being taken care of" Totally not sympathetic or cared that a creature just ran under us while we were eating. Nor did they warn us of this problem prior to seating us outside next to the trees when it wasn't busy. Disclaimer: This was the first stop on my 'night out in Edmonds' and for as weird as it was, it was the LEAST weird place I went to. That is saying something. Additional reviews to follow of subsequent Edmonds businesses. Have you been here? I hate to over-use the word but... this place is WEIRD! Take for instance the decor. The decorator clearly could not decide what they were going for so rather than commit to a style, they just plastered tons of random crap up on the walls. Actually, I'm going to take that a step further and say that the decorator very well could have been the chef too because the menu was the exact same way. You want some French pork chop, perhaps a little carne asada or seared ahi tuna and top it off with a pizza? Yeah, you can get all that in one easy place. Those are all actual examples from their menu. Weird, right? I know. I couldn't figure out what this place was about. It's Americana? I'm not sure but that's my assumption. The food was fine but I think there was so much going on at this place that I can't recall one actually memorable thing about it. Sorry Five Restaurant., I think you need to narrow your focus down to just one. read more

During a recent dark period in my life I called up an old girlfriend, thinking talking to her might help me understand my pain. I asked if she wanted to go get something to eat sometime soon, she warmly agreed. Choosing meals has always been hard for us, if she's picky, I'm hungry. If she's adventurous, I'm hung over. After not really talking for two years, I wanted to be nice. I was also afraid. I suggested Five. She said she didn't know what that was. I balked and did the "well let's play it by ear thing, see how we feel". She has this thing of wearing inappropriate attire to appropriate places. A few times she's done it on purpose, but mostly it's by accident. I didn't want to blindside her so I suggested a light cuisine we'd shared innumerable times before- teriyaki or something where you can make it to the exit pretty quick in event of a fire or if we fell back on old patterns. It seemed she was going to be easy on me this time- "let's do sit down, you pick the place, and I'll see you at six, smiley emoticon". I told her alright, we'll do the Five Restaurant on Edmonds Way- a "nice sit down place with a variety of food choices in a 'oh my gosh how can all these old drunk people see in this lighting' kind of atmosphere". She laughed. I had to at least match her attire, which was wildly unpredictable. Towards the end of our relationship, I kept a pretty rugged beard. She said she loved it and lamented when I shaved it. I think she only liked it because it kept girls away from me (and children, and pets). I just so happened to have another beard. K, so I'll wear that, what else? A shirt my mom got me for Christmas. It's not that it's not a good shirt or I don't like it, I just like to use the "hey man my mom got me this" if anyone were to make fun or silently judge me. My mom would want me to wear this, OK? What else? Blue jeans. Tact. I'd decided to imbibe slightly beforehand. I still had a case of the shakes from the blow I had been dealt the previous day. I hadn't shaken like this since the conclusion with my current date. She was beautiful. At first sight I said, "You look well". She said thank you. I said that's not a grammar thing. I didn't say you look "good" (passing my hands around my silhouette), I said you look "well" (waving my hands upward across my face). She said thank you again. The bartender was nice, attentive, patient. He noticed she was having a hard time with the first bite of her salmon- a little spicy she said, but she could find "spicy" in a snow cone. The bartender admitted that it was often a little spicy of a dish and several times asked to replace it. She insisted, and he made sure she wasn't just being nice. He really seemed willing to take the $20 plate of salmon back to the kitchen and get a do-over. The gesture was kind and genuine. She still ate every last piece of that salmon, and some of my plate. I wasn't eating much, and vastly preferred talking to her than eating even the delicious carne asada and potatoes dish. The bartender recognized this and his visits became less frequent and he was cool about it. Even amid her outbursts of laughter and bouts of swearing we didn't get so much as a look from the staff. I had to remind her to keep her voice down only once. I asked her, was my description from earlier not dead-on or what? She agreed wholeheartedly, as we looked beyond the bar and observed the rich Edmonds retiree set. She asked me if I had been here before. I said yes but only once, and I was piss drunk. I told her it was very nice, and the staff was kind to us, even after spilling the water bottle all over the patio and probably saying several loud, inappropriate things. Towards the end, I made the terrible mistake of going to the bathroom. When I came back, she had already paid the bill. I wanted to fight her. She explained she made a lot of money as a dancer last year and it was "her treat". I countered that the whole reason for dragging her out here and having her wallow through my company was so that she could at least get a nice free meal out of it. Ambience, really great ambience. 'Not sure if it was the tasty aromas of food being served around the room, or the perfect volume of piano playing over speakers mixed in with the hum of the crowd engaged in their evening dinner conversation, or even the light clusters and strings thoughtfully placed- but here is a good balance of it all. Our table did great in ordering the beet salad, carne Asada (the chefs signature dish), the French-cut pork chop with portabella mushroom, and the roast chicken breast on a bed of fresh greens. Apparently the pepperoni flatbread pizza is a must-have that I won't forget to order next time. The most relaxing atmosphere of any lunch spot I've been to in the state of WA. Outdoor "courtyard" lets you sit in the sun (well, when it's out!) and enjoy your meal in tranquility. Can't wait to come here in the evenings where they have large rectangular (communal?) fire pit tables. Great wine selections, and I'd come here again and again for the rigatoni. Cute environment, bistro style. Not many menu options, could have used more variety for Appys etc. We had the woodfired margarita pizza- very tasty. And the chicken ceasar salad- tasted okay- chicken seemed like store bought already cooked chicken and my husband thought it the lettuce was a little too warm- like it had been sitting out. Water comes out in clear wine bottles- cute idea but I'm not a fan of luke warm tap water. Staff was very friendly, place was packed on a Friday night. I'm also not a fan of paying 5 bucks for a beer when I can go across the parking lot and get a whole pitcher of Mannys for 10 bucks. Overall it was good, but not amazing. Ate here for the first time on Saturday. While the restaurant has a lot going for it and I'm most defiantly rooting for it, there are some major bugs that need to be worked out. I'll start with the positive: 1. The food is good. I didn't think it was that pricey and everything we ordered was fresh and tasty. The pizza was particularly delicious and only $10.00. 2. The decor: I found the space inviting and relaxing (with the exception of the bar). Large tables with plenty of seating. The piped in music was present but not over bearing. 3. Prices: As I stated above, pricing seems fair. It's a little on the high side if you are just looking for a salad / sandwich place, but if that's what your looking for there are much better places to be found. What I didn't like: 1. The service: Now to be fair I watched the other waitstaff and they did a great job, but the guy we had was a complete bust. He ignored us the first 10 minutes we were there until the other waiter told him to help us. I'm not sure if he's new to waiting or just indifferent, but it was the kind of bad service that could keep someone from not coming back. If it wasn't for the other friendly service I'd have dropped my rating for 2 stars. 2. The Bar: They really don't have one. They only serve wine and beer and the bar area was not inviting at all. For the most part any good seating was being used by staff. Granted the establishment was pretty empty and there was plenty of table seating, but the area is still very small. 3. We ordered a bottle of sparkling. No ice bucket. Do I need to bring my own? The odd stuff: 1. Water bottles on the table. A nice touch. A little ice would go a long way, but other wise I like. 2. My Cesar salad came in a chilled mason jar. I can't decide if that's a good thing or a bad thing. 3. They have canned cheese on the menu. read more

Don't let the location in a strip mall fool you, FIVE is a great bistro with that classic swanky feel and amazing food. This is one of my absolute favorite places in Edmonds. The pizza here is fantastic and perfectly sized for either lunch or dinner. They use all fresh (and mostly organic) ingredients. You can definitely taste the difference. Every sandwich that I've had here was equally delicious and the flat bread sandwiches are big enough to share. Even the kids' baked mac 'n cheese was some of the best I've ever had. Oh, I almost forgot to mention that they have the BEST bruschetta of anywhere in the area. With a room full of wine selections, a cool outdoor eating area, extremely friendly and helpful wait staff and plenty of varied but yummy menu offerings, FIVE is a must visit if you're in the Edmonds area. read more

It's super cute inside. You'd never expect it off the main drag, but the owners put a lot of thought into decorating it and putting together a menu of popular items. It's a whimsical hipster bistro that serves great breakfast. I can see why customers are loyal to it. We went on Memorial Day Monday, and were the first couple of the day. We felt bad for them, but the food and service was still spectacular. We were relieved for them when more people started to show up, because a place like that seems to use fresh ingredients, and it deserves business. Too cool for Edmonds, despite its non-downtown location in an older retail area, Five has a great atmosphere that would seem more at home in Seattle or Vancouver than sleepy Edmonds. Great bartenders and good service. The food is excellent and the portion sizes are generous. My boyfriend and I went to Five Restaurant and Bistro tonight for the first time after buying a Living Social coupon and we were pretty satisfied! Initially we were a little bit frustrated because we wanted to order a few things (2 beers and an appetizer) off of the happy hour menu and then use the Living Social coupon towards entrees we planned on ordering off of the regular dinner menu and they wouldn't let us do it. On the coupon it just says something like "cannot be applied to happy hour deals" and we've done that with Groupons/Living Social coupons at other restaurants before (ordering off both menus but only applying the discount to the normal menu) and it's never been a problem, so we were somewhat annoyed, being the huge cheapskates that we are, that we couldn't get an extra, extra good deal. But the staff was really polite and handled it really well and even told us about certain days we can come back to get extra discounts on lunch specials and such. We ended up ordering: 2 beers The baked goat cheese rolled in toasted pistachios with fig and calamata olive tapanade with crostini's A salad that had lettuce, chopped salami, provolone, garbanzo beans, tomatoes, red onions, and a creamy tarragon vinaigrette And a pizza that had bartlett pears, gorgonzola, toasted pine nuts, and dill pesto The beer selection wasn't super great, they just had Stella, Negra Modelo, Diamond Knot IPA, and Manny's. But better selections than they had at The Loft which we went to last weekend, in my opinion. The baked goat cheese appetizer was REALLY tasty. The pistachios on the outside of the goat cheese gave it a really nice crunch and the sweetness of the figs and saltiness of the kalamata olives complimented each other really nicely and tasted awesome when all smeared together onto a little crostini from heaven. I have absolutely no complaints about the taste or the nice yet simple presentation, but I did expect it to be a slightly bigger appetizer for the price. It was $12 and came with a mere 2 tablespoons or so of the baked goat cheese and about a tablespoon of the olive/fig tapanade and 4 crostini's. It was fine since I was only there with my boyfriend, but if we would have been in a larger party I don't know how we would have been able to share it amongst everyone. The salad was absolutely DELICIOUS. One of the best salads I've ever had. The dressing was so delicious and there was the perfect amount of it, the salami was really tasty, the garbanzo beans went really nicely on it, and all of the other toppings just complimented each other really well. The pizza was also really wonderful. The crust was SO good. It seemed different than most pizza crusts but I'm not exactly sure why. I've never had a pizza with pears and I was worried it would be too sweet, but the Gorgonzola and dill really balances the sweetness and made it absolutely perfect. Our waitress also brought out some red pepper infused olive oil and told us that if we like spicy that it goes really nicely with the crust. We tried it without it first just to see how it tasted alone (still really good) but with the spicy olive oil it was to die for. Just the right amount of spice that it kicked the flavor up a notch without overpowering any of the other ingredients. We both went in there starving and ended up leaving with 2 slices of pizza. So although I thought the servings were a bit small on some of the dishes, we were absolutely stuffed as we worked on the pizza. The total bill came to $22 after the Groupon discount, so if we hadn't had the Groupon and when you include a tip it would have come to about $55 which is a lot more than we can normally afford to spend on beer, an appetizer, a salad, and some pizza. But thank goodness for Groupon! We will most definitely go back for their happy hour and lunch specials and would jump at the chance to buy another similar coupon. The location wasn't the nicest from the outside (a strip mall sort of place next to a Shell gas station) but inside it was really cute and comfortable and they had back patio seating which we would have done if the weather wasn't so crappy. We were also really entertained spying on the group of grandmas that we were sitting next to. "Could you please describe the potatoes for me? I mean, are they special potatoes? Are they really anything special? How else can you cook the potatoes?" and I'm pretty sure a waitress ended up cutting another one of the grandma's trout that she ordered. It really added to the awesome dining experience. The service was really good. We were in and out in less than an hour even though our waitress was also waiting on the table of grandma's that asked a million questions every time she walked past them. I visited FIVE a couple of weeks ago on a Saturday evening. We didn't have a reservation and there was going to be a 40 minute wait so we opted for the bar seating. I ended up having a caesar salad which was really good and quite tangy. I also split a pepperoni pizza and it was soooooo delicious. Great place we stumbled upon coming back to Seattle from downtown Edmonds. Not easy to find. As a matter of fact, we were going to try another place in the same strip mall that Five is located, but saw this place and decided to try it. It was Saturday night around 7:30 so it was prime time. We had to wait for around 10 minutes for our party of four. We started with the bruschetta. Very nicely done with a great balsamic reduction over chopped heirloom tomatoes and goat cheese. Wonderful! Next we shared a ceasar salad that was tangy and crisp but not outstanding. My wife & I also shared a cup of the french onion soup. This was the only dish that was not above average. The broth was a fairly weak vegetable stock that was very "oniony" and not the rich, bold beef stock that is traditional for french onion soup. This was the soup de jour. I had the special of the night, pork cheeks which were prepared nicely browned over a bed of edamame beans and carrots, celery and other veggies. My wife had a small pizza and my son a large pepperoni pizza. The pizzas are very rustic and served on wooden platters. My son's gf had a nice bowl of rigatoni with meat sauce. For desert we ordered BOLINHOS DE CHUVA which are similar to beingets. Basically a light fried dough served sprinkled with brown sugar and cinnamon. Also on the plate was heaping portion of whipped cream and chocolate sauce. Definitely a winner. There were no entres over $20 including steak so it's very reasonably priced. read more

I am surprised that this place is actually in business based on whom they seem to be marketing to vs. their location. My friend and I were on our way to Five and almost missed it because it we thought it would be in a "cuter" location. It is not in Edmonds Proper but is in a strip mall that includes an Auto Body Repair Shop and has very limited parking. When you walk inside however, it is very cute and quaint and their outside patio is very well done and makes you forget you are on a commercial and loud road. The staff was attentive but a little slow. The drinks were good; nice vodka martinis (generous pour) and they were not stodgy on the wine, although they could offer a few more by the glass. I had their arugula salad and their small prosciutto, fresh mozzarella pizza. I cannot really comment on their food properly as what I had was so simple. The arugula salad was good though, nothing to write home about. It was a pile of arugula with a couple of other things thrown in. The pizza was good; I will give them credit for making a good pizza crust even though it is not "Neapolitan style" as they claim but it is lighter than it looks and has a nice texture. I am not rushing to go back here but I would not be opposed to it should someone suggest it. read more

We almost didn't come here for our anniversary after reading the not so rave reviews that some of the yelpers left but I am so glad that we did! Our server Story was amazing, the drinks were delicious and the food, oh god! Soo good! We are coming back for our business Christmas party this Friday and I am so looking forward to it! A must go! We have been to Five Bistro a few times and I doubt we will go back. The server ordered our meals incorrectly and when we asked about it she told us we were wrong. Nicole then ordered three pizzas to go when we asked for two. The manager brought a side of potatoes to replace the incorrect plate - not one apology from him or Nicole. When I asked about the wrong pizza order she just said oh, I thought you ordered three. Here's the bill. The service was so subpar. Yay! Finally went to a great restaurant in the Edmonds area. My wife and I were completely impressed by the experience at Five. The service was really great. We had a server who was very pleasant, plus she was attentive, but not in our faces. Dishes were brought out at a great cadence. The atmosphere was well done. We sat outside on the patio, which was nicely designed, hidden from road traffic. The music was a nice selection and quiet enough to be present, but not too loud. The guests were dressed nice, but casual. You'd feel comfortable there in jeans and a decent shirt. The food was great. We had the arugula salad and fresh guacamole for an appetizer. Honestly, the guac was better than just about any that we had when we lived in Phoenix. For our entrees, we had the rosemary chicken (bone in). The chicken was perfect - not too dry, the skin was crispy. The vegetables were well done also; cooked just enough to still have a crunch. My wife ordered the pork belly tacos (monthly menu item) and they were also as good as any taco we would get in Arizona. For dessert we ordered the rhubarb/blueberry crisp with vanilla ice cream, which was the perfect sweet (but not too sweet) bite for the end of the meal. We stopped by this place for lunch after spending the afternoon at the summer market. I love the atmosphere, the location is super convenient and the wait-staff was very helpful and friendly. My mom and grandmother both had the croque madame and were raving about it for the rest of the day. I was a little jealous at first that I hadn't ordered that as well, it was really very good - but my pear, pine nut and gorgonzola pizza was INCREDIBLE. I took a little ribbing from the owner because I had ordered it without the dill pesto, (Being intolerant to garlic I steer away from pesto in general - but after the meal he asked around in the kitchen for me and found out that there actually wasn't any garlic in it at all.) and I can't wait to go back and try the dish the way it was meant to be; but that said, it was amazing the way I had it. :) The gorgonzola was LIFE-CHANGING, some of the best I've ever had. My grandmother and I both had the 'Slippery Slope' specialty drink. It was perfect for the warm afternoon, so simple yet so refreshing! I hope that drink sticks around, that one is a bullseye! I was a little disappointed that they didn't have orange juice for mimosas, that would really have completed the breakfast dishes. Overall a great lunch. We used a Groupon coupon so did not pay full price but from what I saw of the bill the prices were very reasonable for the quality of food and atmosphere served up in this delightful location. I really hope this place succeeds, I will definitely be making the trip back to Edmonds from Renton just to eat here again. read more
