We went to Johnny Mo's for the first time. We tried: Buffalo wings - these were probably our least favorite buffalo wings we have ever had in a restaurant. They were rubbery - like they had only been boiled or steamed. The fat inside the wings was not fully rendered out. They had no crunch and crisp that makes a classic buffalo wing delicious. They should be placed in a fryer or at least under a broiler to get them crisp. Pepperoni, sausage, meatball Chicago pizza - this was good. The tomato sauce was tasty - but way too watery. It needs to be cooked down to be thicker and more concentrated. When we cut the pizza a lot of the sauce came sliding off. And the crust was oddly crunchy on the sides. But the flavor was tasty and the ingredient quality was pretty good. read more

Food was ok, but nothing to write home about. the main issue I had was the tomato sauce was too watery and just ran out when we cut into the pizza. Other Chicago style pizza's I've had had a much thicker and cooked down sauce. The crust was good, but just wish it was a little more flakey. The flavors for the food overall were fine, just the textures and execution was lacking. Cocktails were pretty expensive and not very well balanced. They were all very alcohol forward. The location is really cool, but unfortunately the design of the restaurant causes a cold draft to form whenever anyone opens the entrance door and anyone sitting close to the stairs will really feel it. Bottom line: Excellent, authentic Chicago deepdish. First time trying this spot, went in without any expectations or preconceptions. Everything was delicious and I am now a convert. We ordered three things: Jalapeno poppers, Arugula and Prosciutto Salad, and the Mo Meat Chicago Style. To specifically call out a previous review stating the poppers were "weird:" I completely disagree with this perspective. They are excellent baked, very flavorful and perhaps even better than typical fried poppers; highly recommended. Salad was very generous, with tons of cheese and prosciutto. Enough to make up a whole meal. The deep dish was one of the best Chicago styles I've had outside of Chicagoland. It outclasses most of them, in my opinion (my gold standard being Lou Malnatis, which may be contentious). I will now no longer need to be on the hunt for a decent pie for a taste of my hometown. Service was friendly and attentive, with quick refills on soft drinks and a huge bowl of water offered for our dogs. It's nice to have a (relatively) new pizza joint in Edmonds. They have nice outdoor seating, and the food came quickly. Sometimes there's live music near the restaurant you can hear from the balcony. Great selection of cocktails. The thing that stood out most to me was that the sauce had incredible flavor. Personally, I think the sauce can make or break a pizza, and without the right spices it can taste bland. Here, that is not the case. My husband and I shared an 18" New York Pizza which we customized by going half-and-half with two of their pie options. It's so cool they let you do that so you can experience two different pies for the same price of getting one. The dough was sooo good! It had that perfect NYC combination of chew and crisp. Our first half was in the Evergreen Pesto style which was topped with: mozzarella (we subbed in vegan cheese), goat cheese, pesto, mushrooms, red onion, artichokes, and spinach. The second half was in the Nature's Green style which was topped with: vegan mozzarella, dollops of homemade sauce with imported tomatoes, vegan chorizo, red onion, roasted garlic and peperoncinis. They were extremely generous with the toppings (look at the photo) so the entire pie was covered and every bite had an explosion of flavors! All the veggies tasted super fresh (not frozen) and were cooked perfectly. It was hard to decide which half of the pizza either of us liked more because both were so delicious. It's wonderful to see more restaurant businesses coming into our thriving Edmonds downtown scene. Johnny Mo's Pizzeria is one of those businesses and is booming! We have been wanting to check out their pizzas for a while. We finally took the chance and we opted for a take out for our first experience. We used Ubereats for a pick-up order. We got a Chicago-style deep-dish pie and a New York-style pizza. We especially enjoyed their New York pizza. It was delicious and every bite was wonderful. I did not enjoy their deep-dish pizza as much and I am pretty sure this is purely a personal preference. While waiting for my pizzas, I was inside the restaurant and saw how busy they were. My family and I have met here in the past for family get-togethers and have always liked the pizza. It is a convenient location, since my sister lives in Port Townsend and can walk on the ferry to Edmonds from Kingston. My personal experience on June 19 has left a very sour taste in my mouth and I doubt we will return. It was a holiday, the first day of the Edmonds Arts Festival, and the US was playing Australia in Seattle at noon in the World Cup. In spite of all those events, only one poor server was scheduled to work when they opened at 12:00. There were a number of tables filled with families, friends out to watch the game, and a few of us at the bar. I was the second person in the door. I wasn't in a big hurry and didn't have small children to deal with, but I felt super sorry for the waiter. I ordered a single slice of cheese pizza, which took 15 minutes and was pretty tasteless. I happened to run into a manager on my way out at 12:36, as he was arriving for work. When I explained the situation, he got very defensive and said more people would be showing up to work soon. Decided to try a handful of things here over the weekend. We got a white pizza as well as a Chicago style (they said they were out of the hot honey one - not sure what they were out of whether it was an ingredient or if they're premade and ran out) - so we got the one with all the meats. I didn't care for this one! The crust was thin and the corners were very crunchy despite the absolute tomato swimming pool in the middle of the pan. The white pizza was fantastic. I might be biased because my favorite pizza toppings include prosciutto and arugula, but I think this was perfect, and could be even better if I had some hot honey to drizzle on top. Looking for a great rooftop restaurant/bar in Edmonds with good food? They only have a few outdoor tables so if you are looking to sit out on the patio, you may need to wait. They initially told us it would be about a 30-min wait but that it might be longer. We went out on the patio and decided that it was worth the wait, but we noticed an empty table and asked if that was possibly going to be our table. They said no, and we told them that we were going to walk around Edmonds while we waited (they text you when your table is getting close to being ready). We walk down the stairs, out the restaurant and didn't even make it 1/2 block when they texted us. I get the feeling that maybe there was some miscommunication regarding the empty table out on the patio, and it was pretty much just a bunch of teens running the front desk, but we were happy to not have to wait, so we quickly walked back and got our table. We got two pizzas although mine definitely was the better pizza. My friend got the vegan one which tasted like Mexican food to me (I've definitely had far better vegan pizzas, so was a bit disappointed with this one) and I had the pepperoni which was a bit overly greasy but still delicious! I got the small pizza but they are still super large so I had a ton to take home, yay!!! I had leftovers for days and even gave my mom some when she came over for Mother's Day and she really liked it too. Drinks are a bit pricey and they charge you separately for the alcohol and for the mixer. A well rum was I believe $12 + $1 for the coke (mixer) = $13. Next time I'll probably just have the pizza (or maybe try a pasta or something) and skip the drinks. Service was great, the ambiance was great, sitting in the sun with the umbrellas was gorgeous on a beautiful day with sunshine and warm weather. Brand new semi-secret Pizzeria in the Edmonds Bowl. Practically, right out of the oven is another pizza joint in downtown Edmonds. Nesting over the Molly Moon Ice Cream parlor (maybe they can collaborate--hint) in a still being constructed corner on the upper east side of Main Street, the place has a really chill vibe and the vegetarian,oven-baked, pizza slice I order was great enough for me to want to return and grab the rest of the pie. Pizza is such a competitive restaurant concept. The price points direct, if not dictate, patrons to continue pacing the sidewalk or commit to sliding into the long bench of the booth. Johnny Mo fits snug in the pocket. The price was justified by the pizza. The crust is the next thing for me that makes or breaks the pizza experience. The crust is the traditional thin(net) crust and it has signs of burn, but yet fresh. The ingredients were fresh and cooked well. The staff seemed excited to be working. They had that giddy and gritty child-awaiting-parents on Christmas morning energy. Patiently pumped to prove their pizza can compete with the too many pizzerias within the few square miles around it. I recommend this place. It seems built for families and a younger crowd to create and sustain a tight door stop that will prompt its door open for years to come. In order to do this, they will need to figure out its soda options. Ordering and drink 12 oz., can of soda probably bought at Costco is an awkward business plan. Fountain service stations are as staple to pizza parlors as pitchers of beer are to a pub. They will figure this out soon, I assume. They seem to be savvy. This is good place for pizza. Visited Johnny MO's new location recently and had the most amazing experience! Staff was super friendly, food came out quick, ambience was great for a summer day sitting on the rooftop patio. My husband and I ordered the classic New York cheese pizza, and a few others. We actually loved it so much we drove 45 minutes a few days later to try more amazing pies. They have a great lunch combo deal that includes a slice and salad (I think $15 maybe $18). All the salads are fresh and packed with flavor! My favorite was the arugula one with pears and a balsamic dressing. Excellent cocktails as well, they have a refreshing POG (pineapple, orange, guava juice) beverage with Tito's that taste like vacation in a cup.
