Very tasty! Got the beef stew bowl on brown rice.. so good.. pretty well priced. Recommend!

I came here on a weekday night during the coronavirus days, and I was surprised that they were only doing takeout and no seating inside. Anyway, I got a small bowl with half salad and half white rice, tilapia, swiss chard, spicy coconut saucce, chimichanga, and two helpings of the tomato. I also got a pao de queijo, and I just realized I wasn't charged for it. Anyway, the spicy coconut sauce really made the meal; I don't think it would've been very good without it. I really enjoyed it, and it was pretty filling too. The pao de queijo wasn't very good though as it was cold and a bit hard. For $7.25, it was quite cheap and it was a flavorful meal. Listen I would give this place 5 stars easily because I actually love their bowls so much. However, the amount of times I have showed up and the place isn't open (when all posted hours say they should be) or they have closed early is actually insane. Probably 80% of the time I come here, it is closed. I understand staffing issues are hard, but if that's the case, please just change your posted hours. read more

If you like power bowls of any kind, this place is for you. At a very fair price, you get fresh food and flavorful combination of a few toppings and sauces. They use fresh ingredients and quality food. I would come back here anytime I was in the mood for something light and simple. Go with confidence and enjoy! Also they serve tractor co. Drinks which I found to be especially refreshing and tastey. Service was on par and those little chocolate balls were great. I wouldn't nessarily call this a Brazilian grill, but for a bowl it was good:) However the reason for 4 instead of 5 is that it is too simple. Now I do recognize the fact their menu could be smaller due to COVID. As a restaurant owner myself, I understand my experience could be singular during these times. But if it's not.... I wish they would have a wider variety of combinations that you could create. What they offer is very good and I'd most gladly eat here again, however you only get to choose bowl, and then are basically only 2 flavors to choose from: coconut or bbq. What I did have was delicious, but with literally only 1 option, visitation frequency is low. You get a bowl with 2 sauce options. That's it. Also, on a side note, I did feel like the beef I got was...well...kinda fake. This would be my only complaint. It was like Chipotle or something. Super simple If I owned Five on Black, I'd offer a more creative and capturing menu, something that would keep me coming back to try new things. You left a good first impression, but now I know everything you have to offer after 1 visit. Maybe a a wrap option? Different varieties of greens? A few more sauces? More toppings? Maybe different beef options? Shred instead of cube? Furthermore, guys...yall need to decorate your place a little better. (Its ugly in there). Maybe they are redecorating cause of COVID? Overall, very good food and I highly reccomend. However due to the lack of options and creativity, the customer experience is not one that inspires a frequent visit. But because their food was so good, I'd totally go again if I was in the mood for a brazilian bowl! read more

It's fast food, but minus the fats? Sign me up please! The menu is simple and straight forward. If you're a vegan you're just limited to the veggie choices, otherwise, the sky is the limit. It was like a burrito but without the tortilla. Not too bad at all. I love the bread though! I wish I had some more. The staff is friendly and patient. read more

I always pop into this Five on Black when I am in town. Not that it is a reflection of the business at all but this vicinity has the absolute worst parking ever! Whenever I am in Downtown Bozeman, I struggle to find parking but some places are definitely better than others. Some places, there is a parking garage or lot nearby that you can use. With this location, there is a bank nearby with a parking lot and they are sooooo strict on parking in that lot. There is a guy they have hired to scream at any speck of dust that is in the lot without their permission. So anyways, once you figure out how to legally park your car, even if it costs you a walk from Belgrade, there is an old building that has been converted into Five on Black. The food is great and I loooove getting the Paos! This last time that I visited, I got thirsty and decided to purchase a drink. As it turns out, that was not the best idea. Their rootbeer is not very good at all :/ or maybe it was just an off day but I was not impressed with it. Everything else was awesome! read more

My wife and I eat Paleo, so it's really hard to find good, clean food when we're on the road. This was just a few minutes off of the interstate, and it fit the bill. Absolutely delicious food at a great price with quick, friendly service. Even the little cheese buns were made with cassava flour instead of corn or brown rice like most gluten free breads. Will make a point to return anytime we're in the area. Hopefully they'll spread outside of Montana soon, and if so, might I suggest Spokane? :) If you have an opportunity, stop on in and give this gem a try! read more

This was my second time eating here, and the difference was night and day from the first. If my first time had been anything like the second, I probably wouldn't have come back. The steak was bland, and so were the sweet potatoes (which were my favorite's the first time). I also had some very big stems (which I was convinced were toothpick pieces) that I took bites of. The recommended brown rice, chicken, sweet potato and spicy coconut with cilantro tomato vin and lime was great! And my creation of the brown rice/crisp greens, chicken, black beans, green herb, and spicy chimichurri, cilantro, and tomato vin was awesome! I opted for a greens base with tilapia, coconut curry sauce, sweet potatoes with lime and cilantro. My only suggestion would be to ask for light sauce if you're getting the greens, as they are pretty heavy handed with it and it doesn't soak up in the salad at all. The beef ribs blew us away! Huge, meaty, tender, tasty, plentiful! The beans are packed with juicy brisket. Even the cornbread was moist.

My sister and I both ordered a small bowl. She went for tilapia, rice, black beans, and coconut sauce. The fish was a little dry, but overall she liked it. I got chicken, sweet potatoes, mango BBQ sauce, over greens. With the lettuce base, I think I needed to get a medium, it wasn't quite enough for a regular sized meal. I also don't think I realized how sweet everything was going to be, so my combination of sauce and sweet potatoes was just overly sweet and lacked dimension. So choose wiser than I and get some spicy mixed in there! That's what I was missing. On another note, everything was so uniformly cut in a half inch dice it was just kind of monotonous texture wise. Larger pieces of protein would have broken that up. A little more meat to "side" ratio would have been nice. The cheese buns were very good... Although I wish our server had given us the inside scoop before we left because we both wanted like three more each!!! Overall we had a light, healthy lunch for under ten bucks each! The food here is incredible! We ordered the Brazilian stew bowls, both with brown rice and salad. I added tilapia and grilled veggies, he added steak and veggies. Online ordering was easy, it was absolutely gluten free, the Brazilian cheese bread was delicious. My one suggestion is elaborating on the grilled veggies online. Turns out it's beats and jicama and sweet potato. Not what we expected. Still delicious and I dislike sweet potato, but I wouldn't have paid extra for it. read more

Oh how I wish this place existed near me. Healthy, fresh food, generous portions, friendly service, and unreal flavors. I love the Chipotle-inspired "Build Your Own Bowl" feel of this place, but with incredible, bold Brazilian flavors. I asked the employee making my bowl for some help and I was given the absolute perfect bowl. Brown rice, lemon-marinated Tilapia, half coconut-roasted sweet potatoes and half steamed collard greens, spicy coconut sauce, farofa, tomato vinaigrette, and lime. I feared the spicy coconut sauce would be too spicy, but it was just right. The balanced, vibrant flavors of this bowl were incredible. Everything is gluten-free and you can tell that their products are carefully sourced and that everything is made with quality and care. My husband's bowl was delicious too: a mango BBQ smothered slow-cooked chicken bowl with plenty of fresh cilantro and greens. And, yes, the cheese balls are addictive.
