We ate lunch at Five Loaves Cafe after Christmas Eve service earlier today. The atmosphere of this place is so fun, festive, and bright. Made me think of happy thought :) The food choices from the kids meal were good and the kids were happy. We ordered the kids meal tortellini cheese pasta with fruits, bacon and waffle, and cheese quesadilla that also came with fruits. For the adult meals, we ordered biscuit (the bottom of the biscuits were a bit burned which my husband not happy with it but he didn't even complaint and just ate the top part that didn't burnt ) sausage gravy with side of scrambled eggs and I forgot to take the picture! Mine was the tomato Taragon crab soup with half portion of cob salad that was so good! We also ordered the shrimp and grits and it was pretty yummy. I have been coming to Five Loaves for years, but our last visit was lackluster. The beautiful salads this restaurant is known for were not on the menu and I didn't recognize most of the other items. Our server was great, but the food was off. I had spiced salmon and the salmon was good, but the pairing with this dish did not match or complement the main. It was basically rice smothered in mushroom soup with a few real mushrooms added. This side was disgusting and I like mushrooms. There was no attempt at presentation and it felt like there was zero passion in the cooking. My husband ordered short ribs and he said it was the worst he's ever had (very bland). This brings me to a point of reflection and a trend I've noticed in a few Charleston-area restaurants: ill-thought changes in menu and lower quality of food are destroying the unique experience and good memories at these establishments. We ordered 3 items 3 people - bbq pork tenderloin (mini meat and no taste), chicken marsala which was big but the spinach watered down the whole dish and the mussels which I was told was huge- it was not. The bread that came with it was a very meh focaccia. The service was anemic - came over with our food not asking if we want anything ( we had tried to find her to ask for another round but when the food came just gave up though she didnt ask anyway) and then one check in when we were eating just asking if all was OK. There was a gentleman who asked us on the way out how everything was ans my husband was polite saying good but I said- not going to lie, it was not good and I don't know what happened but we won't be back. Love it here! I came here with my family for brunch a few weeks ago and we loved it. They have an outside area that is covered and heated so it was super comfortable even with it being a little chilly out. It's super cute inside you can tell the decor was really thought out which I love. I'm vegetarian and my in laws are vegan and there were a TON of options for all of us. I got the vanilla cold brew and it was delish. Normally cold brew doesn't have enough flavor for me but this one did. I got the broccoli cheddar soup which was also amazing and a salad which was a great serving size, I even had some to take home. Our server was also super attentive and very sweet. So, I came here specifically because it was a place that was highly recommended for vegan options. When I arrived, there were only two option on the menu, no appetizers and no desserts. A soup that was $18 and a pesto tofu dish that $17. I opted for the tofu. While it was good, it was very flavorless and had a lot of oil and some very mushy rice with breaded tofu and some "pesto" on top. Our server was very clueless as to what was on the menu and had no idea what vegan meant. For the kiddos, it was literally a fruit bowl for dinner that was $3. Overall, I'm glad we opted to go somewhere else for dinner for valentines tomorrow because I would have been super disappointed. While my wife really likes the food here, I was disappointed. My reuben was fairly small and just lacked that traditional reuben taste. For $15, only the sandwich was included. Chips were an additional $1.50. It was way overpriced. My blueberry lemon drop cocktail was also disappointing as it lacked the blueberry flavor I was hoping for. The ambiance was ok while the service was great but that's not enough to offset the overpriced, small portioned, so so tasting foods and drinks. read more

Quaint spot in a strip mall in Mount Pleasant. Location is underwhelming, but the food and service is not. Cornbread appetizer was savory and sweet. Eggplant dish was not cooked, and still partially frozen, service slow, eggplant STILL frozen after I sent it back for heating up. Never got an "I'm sorry" Waitress huffed and puffed thru the dinner. They have a very wide range of fresh sandwiches, soups, and salads with delicious combinations that make it hard to choose just one. I love the fact that you can order half or whole and create your own "combo" in doing so. Their tomato and fresh mozzarella salad was my absolute favorite. Adding asparagus into their salad gives it something unique and paired with balsamic it was wonderful. Everything else we tried on the menu did not disappoint. It was all amazing and full of flavor. They also have daily soup, salad, and sandwich specials that are featured on a smaller menu. They were very busy during our visit and had many customers come in for takeout and others waiting for tables. We stumbled upon this little cafe at a point where we were starving, tired and close to our destination but couldn't yet check in. They were busy so usually a good sign. I ordered the chicken salad sandwich and potato broccoli cheddar soup. They had a great selection of cocktails also. Everything was delicious! The ambience was adorable. Service could have been a little better. We had children with us and one was a bit whiny so I'm not sure if that was the issue. We seemed to be the only children in the restaurant. Here's a cool place in Mount Pleasant if you're looking for something a little bit casual/homey. Stumbled across this popular cafe for a light evening salad. You get a cool/relaxing vibe when you walk in, not that intimidating feeling... know that feel? I placed an order for a gluten free/vegetation arugula salad. On the salad is goat cheese (who doesn't love goat cheese... cept the goat maybe), beets, candied walnuts, and carrots. They've got quite a few choices of dressings. My choice was the balsamic honey. It was a decent size salad, all the toppings were fresh. For me I prefer more than 2 candied walnuts but that's me. The dressing was wonderful. Great little cafe for a quick lunch! The atmosphere is wonderful, everyone is very warm and friendly. I ordered the ham and brie in a croissant as well as the crab tarragon soup. A little disappointed that my sandwich was cold, the name "hot" ham and brie definitely makes me think of hot melted brie and a warm croissant but everything was sort of cool like it had been sitting out. Still delicious though! I'm a huge fan of the jam they use in the sandwich. As far as the soup goes.. it was good but it wasn't hot either. Lol and I'm really not one of those people who like their food super hot. I just don't want my soup cold? If you're in a rush they bring the food out pretty quickly. As a fan of the Five Loaves cafe in downtown Charleston, I ran to the Mount Pleasant location when it closed. The new location has ample seating inside plus a patio tent outside . I usually go for lunch, and my to-go is the three soup sampler (they change all the time but the crab and tarragon is an all time favorite) and a half sandwich. Any sandwich combination is on point, but my favorite bread style is the baguette. The service is always great and the food comes out fast. There is a new charge small recently added for COVID expenses such as PPE for the employees and additional cleaning supplies. read more
