I liked my burger and fries from 5-guys. Honestly, I went more to try the fries, and get a burger for Dave. Here's my take on it: The atmosphere sucks for eating in. Every time someone approaches the door, the people behind the counter yell out "3 at the door!" If I wanted to sit somewhere with a bunch of people yelling at each other, I would just stay home and eat. It's loud, but not in a fun way. So, i took my food to go. The burger didn't travel well. They wrap them in foil, and it steamed the bun and made it squishy. When I did finally eat it, the taste was good. The toppings were nice and fresh, and the bacon crisp. The fries were very yummy. I ate those on the way home. Well, I had to since I wanted to give a fair review of them, right? Gotta eat 'em while they are hot! Anyway, not crispy at all, but they had a good potato taste. Ohhhh mannnn...I have to go to church and then confession and say three rosaries. Forgive me Father for I have sinned. I ate a hamburger on Good Friday. I will change my name to Fish Boy for the Easter weekend. But boy was it good. It was worth the pennance I will have to do. Even though this is not a slider joint I still believe in the Burger University lessons. Lesson One: Smell Since this restaurant is on the corner of Twelve Mile and Telegraph the smell of car exhaust is very prominent. There is no outside smell that lures you into the restaurant. Once inside, awesome. They had some 20+ burgers on the grill and a full fryer of fries going. The smell of peanuts next to the counter was also a bit intoxicating. Lesson Two: Preparation You can actually watch the assembly line of burgers as the cooks prepare them, grilled buns upside down, next were the condiments you choose, then the cook turns around and lays the burgers directly in the middle of the assembled burger. True team work in action. My choice of cajun fries from another Yelper was pretyy good. They not only fill up the small cup but throe in a ton more in the brown paper bag all over the now wrapped burger in tin foil. There were enough fries for three people. Lesson Three: Meal Excellent. Two fresh ground sirloin piled high on the burger with cheese. This burger reminds me of another Yelp recommended burger joint in Farmington Hills. The taste is very similar and equally as good. Lesson Four: Atmoshere There's a ton of atmosphere here. This place was packed at 2:00 in the afternoon. I like the free peanuts, loud music, and all the buzz and chatter from all the patrons. This restaurant is very clean. They have someone in the dining area cleaning at all times. The soda fountain area is clean as there isn't any sticky floor and shoes sticking. The only drawback was the price. A regular cheese burger(double) small fries and small drink was $10.05 with tax. This meal could have easily been shared with another person since there was so much. If Five Guys is the "In 'n Out" of the Midwest/East Coast, I really don't know what people are smoking. Sure they claim to not use frozen meat and claim to use freshly cut potatoes for their fries. BUT, for some reason using the "healthy" version of those two ingredients still spits out a completely different burger from In 'n Out. Taste wise, there is not a single OUNCE of healthiness. The meat is heavy, the buns are smooshed, and the simplicity of a healthy burger is taken away by all the topping choices. You literally, and I mean literally, can choose up to 16 toppings. I got about 10 in mine and it was just overloaded. I was surprised that for jalapeno peppers, you get fresh ones and not pickled! The most shocking thing to me is still that the "little" burgers are really regular size but with just one patty. When I was holding that mound of protein and carb in my hand, it felt like a gigantor burger. I can't even imagine stomaching the regular one, which has two patties. As for the fries, everyone raves about the Cajun but I had to try the regular just to conduct an equal comparison. Five Guys' fries are thicker and heartier where as In 'n Out fries are thinner and slightly more soft, but the two still maintain the same, fresh potato taste. For the price, it's worth it as they give you a full cup for the regular and dump any extra in your bag which only aids in soaking the bag with oil so that it'll get all over yourself and so that people who pass by you can judge you. Ultimately, it's a dirty burger and at this age, I have to say no to Five Guys so I can say no to cellulite. read more

There's a lot to like about Five Guys. It's got a catchy sort of name. Reviews are good. And the President eats here (well, the one in D.C.) If it's good enough for him, it's certainly good enough for me. I wondered whether they created a "Presidential Burger" in his honor. To my dismay, they did not. Walking in to Five Guys, you notice the clean, bright and shiny atmosphere. I don't know whether it's the red and white tiles, the friendly order taker or the sparse dining area with wooden chairs and tables, but the place definitely looks clean, open and inviting. The menu is pretty simple. There are large burgers and cheeseburgers, with or without bacon, and then smaller versions of the same. They have hot dogs, with or without cheese and/or bacon. Two sizes of French fries round out the menu. All toppings at Five Guys are free. In addition to the expected ketchup, mustard, lettuce and tomato, there's also grilled onions, mushroms, jalapenos or green peppers. After placing an order, you find a table and help yourself to the very large bin of fresh roasted peanuts. This is a smart and tasty idea. All burgers here are "well done" so I was expecting the worst. To my surprise, our burgers were juicy and delicious. We ordered the large version, with cheese. There was lots of cheese, and lots of meat. Five Guys uses 100% fresh U.S. ground beef. It's never frozen, and it is hand-shaped into patties. Likewise, the potatoes are made from 100% American potatoes which are fried, with skins in 100% peanut oil. Ours were served piping hot, not too greasy and were quite good. Our regular size order easily fed two. The music at Five Guys is a little loud and quite fast paced. Maybe this gets you to eat faster? read more

Looking for a good cheeseburger? Seeing as they are the 'all american meal' most meat consumers are looking for them, at least to quench that occasional burger craving. Rarely do you find a chain that can serve up a delicious burger better then the burger-bars-and-dives. First the fries. Get them Cajun. They require no additional seasoning, and the heat can circulate back to your throat a bit. But even a child can toss them back and note how yummy they are. Cooked in peanut oil, which is well known by cooking junkies to make the tastiest taters ever - this restaurant has not skimped on the official cheeseburger partner. I tried the regular burger and happily rattled off a few condiments (free, Hello) to complete my toppings. A-1 and green peppers stand out as they are usually charge ons. Everyone knows a decent burger at least deserves to be offered A-1 for its short lifespan. The burger was juicy, the tomato bright red and uniform in color, the lettuce crisp and whole and cold. And the cheese drooled over the sides respectfully. Its american cheese, which is sniffed at sometime. But realize there is good American cheese and cheap American cheese just like any other cheese variation. This version is flavorful and some thought went into placing it on this divine burger. This is going to be one scrambled review. I'm not exactly sure why just yet but I have that feeling. I'll tell you right off the bat, this isn't the best burger I had. Honestly, I'm not even sure why its so special but I'm constantly taking a bite out of it. I just can't put the damn thing down once I pull that foil over. I just cannot explain it. Every ingredient you chose seem to fuse together perfectly. A nice juicy coglomoration of a sandwich. Here's how it works. [warning super long sentence ahead] You walk in, wait in line for a bit, scan the menu, prepare your 'toppings speech' while waiting, greet the cashier, tell them your order, decide you want to add one more item (no extra cost for toppings so go bananas), pay them, memorize your number from the receipt, decide if you want to eat peanuts, look at the seemingly crowded open kitchen and try to guess if the burger to the left is yours, hear your number called, look at the grease on the bag, smile and leave/sit. *deep breath* For a fast food joint, this is by far one of the best burgers you can get. Ingredients are fresh, except those mushrooms which you can tell come from some industrial sized aluminum can in the back. I love mushrooms. Especially fresh mushrooms. But hey, i'll get over it. You have OPTIONS. If you want a bare-bones burger. Get one. If you want a loaded burger? Well, enjoy it then! I tried the fries once. They give you a ton of those little potatoed buggers. I've finally given in to the hype that is Five Guys. I was in Southfield today and saw the restaurant across the street from Meijer, so thought I'd treat myself and give it a try. Maybe I would have given them another star had I not had to wait almost 15 minutes for my meal, as it was probably the lunch rush. And? Well, for $6.66 (man, talk about ominous!), it was okay. Not great, nothing to write home about or proclaim it was the greatest burger ever. I got the little cheeseburger and regular fries. People rave about the fries, but maybe I just prefer a different style of fry. They were okay. The place runs like a well oiled assembly line, tons of buns and toppings just waiting for a burger off the grill, and piping hot fries waiting to leave drops of grease all over your bag. I think it wouldn't kill them to have a microphone to call out the order numbers, as order #45 was called out about 10 times before its owner came to claim it. Again, it was okay. Not bad for a fast food joint burger, but I don't think I'd make a special trip to go there. read more

Five Guys means certain stomach doom. But thats a good thing right? First off, the portions are incredible. I get a Double Bacon Cheeseburger with ketchup, mayo, lettuce, tomato, and pickles. And honestly, it's one of the best burgers I've found in the metro Detroit area. The meat is clearly fresh, and the ingredients are superb. On to the fries. The large fry is ridiculously HUGE! Seriously, you can split it between three people. I love how they just throw them all in a bag. The Cajun fries are great too. Although sometimes the Cajun seasoning tends to make the fries on the bottom of the bag a tad bit more spicy. They also have vinegar for fries. Which is awesome touch. I'm rating this place for the burgers. Yeah, they're pricey, but they're really darn good. You should only visit this place five times in a lifetime, because six would send you straight into cardiac arrest. So if you're a cat, you can probably get away with fourty-five times before your glorious days of chasing lasers and making a fool of yourself on YouTube is over. I think it has to do with the cholesterol greasing up them stupid receptors in their brains, because these fries are nasty with a side of grease. You get a lot of them too. You could literally take someone out with a bag of these fries, prison style. One swing and you've taken their five-trip-a-lifetime quota down to four and a half, so next trip they will have to skip the cheese, and that's not a very good compromise. Need a tip? If you're going to a particularly popular Five Guys during lunch time, download their phone app and order from your phone. I'm still on the fence about Five Guys. I'm in between "ok" and "I'm a fan" I've grown up on In-n-Out, so it takes a lot for a fast food burger to impress me. The wife and I were trying to figure out somewhere to go to celebrate New Year's Eve and to get some good food. What better place than Five Guys Burgers and Fries!! Other than they gave us the wrong size fry that we ordered, they got everything else right and it was spectacular! My wife was licking her lips like she ate a 8 piece of chicken when we get home. And I was picking very proudly my teeth with my toothpick after. A lot of people don't take the time to appreciate people in retail. It is not as easy job like everyone thinks it is. Best burger I've had to date! Am originally from California where In-N-Out is the undisputed king of good tasting quality burgers and fries. I have been suffering from In-N-Out withdrawal ever since my move out to the midwest. Suffer no more! Five Guys has made me a believer -- juicy, generous-sized, handmade patty burgers with fresh toppings and amazing fries! If you like to spice things up, ask for the cajun seasoning on the side to use on the fries but more importantly on the burger itself! Super tasty. I genuinely enjoy Five Guys when I need a hamburger fix. I like the variety of toppings and the ability to customize my order. That said, this particular location has some organizational and management issues. I stopped by on a Tuesday night before heading to the movies. They were fast to take the order, but getting the correct order from them was like pulling teeth. I thought the people around me were going to stage a coup! I was not planning to join the uprising, but completely understood it. It seems as though they lost several orders because their "printer messed up." Tell that to the guy who waited 30 minutes for his burger, just to be told they didn't have his order ticket. One woman ordered a hamburger with a seedless bun, waited 35 minutes before she approached the counter, and learned for the first time that they didn't have seedless buns. As she had a severe sesame allergy, she had to have her money refunded and left. Shouldn't the person taking the orders KNOW that they don't have seedless buns? And if the tickets are numbered sequentially, shouldn't somebody behind the counter NOTICE when the tickets jump a few numbers for no reason? Apparently not. There were a slew of teenagers behind the counter, one manager, but nobody "in charge." read more

If it's taking five guys to make your burger, then you have a problem. The burgers here a far cry from amazing. My cheeseburger with lettuce, onions and mushrooms was soggy and bland. It completely fell apart in my hands halfway through. The same goes for the fries. Both the fries and burgers are super greasy and surprisingly bland. I'm fries girl...anything McDonalds to Coney. But the fries here are big old let down. I heard they were supposed to be all amazing, being fried in peanut oil and all, but they just fell flat on their soggy sad face. The only redeeming quality was the staff here. My interaction with the staff at the counter was minimal but the girl who was coming around, cleaning up and bussing was the sweetest ever. She even offered to grab some peanuts for us to take home. Many people I know love Five Guys, me... well it's OK. We pulled in to this place at around 9:00 pm and ordered up. I got some type of a bacon burger and fries. I have to give Five guys credit. I really like all of the possible combinations of topping that you can put on your burger for free.. Fried onions, guacamole, just about anything you could ever dream of. Then came the fries. I've heard other gush over the fries, and I guess I could gush over the quantity that we were given, but the quality was dismal. It was like eating a pound of wet paper towel with seasoning salt sprinkled on top. I'm not sure that I've ever eaten soggier fries than I had here. Fries aside, the atmosphere is pretty bland and pray that you don't even have a nominal peanut allergy, because you're going to need an epi-pen if you walk into 5 guys. Peanuts everywhere!. For the 5G newbie, here is the low down: Burgers come in two sizes: "regular" (two patties) and "little" (one patty). Cheese (American only) and bacon cost extra, otherwise the fixins are no charge. I go the for the regular. My wife, the little. The fries are served overflowing the container. Choose either "plain" or Cajun. My wife and I split a large order of plain fries and get a side of the Cajun seasoning to sprinkle. Even with sharing the fries, there are some left over. Coke products (including Zero!), water, and lemonade are available self serve. Our usual bill: $17.00. If we take one of the kids with us, make it an even $20 (without ordering extra fries!). My only warning: the Greenfield store's service is generally, in my opinion, better and more consistent. The 12 Mile/Telegraph store is newer. Perhaps they'll have the service kinks worked out soon. Food is top notch at both. Lastly, if you want even speedier service, call your order in. Then when you get to the store go to the front of the line and give them the name your ordered under. If doing this at the 12 Mile/Telegraph store, double check your order for accuracy. read more

The carbonation is out for the pop machines half the time I go there, and if you call in an order you can garuntee it'll be wrong. You need to actually read back orders like any other place does so your customers can actually get food they want to eat. Waste of money. When the hamburger attack strikes, my officemates turn to Five Guys to ease their cravings. Sloppy hamburgers layered in all the fixings for a salad, a slab of cheese, and a fat bun make their hearts soar. Me, I really only give a hoot about one thing. French fries. Five Guys' doesn't do girly shoestring fries that were peeled off a dieting potato with a blue laser. They don't do calcified chips scraped off the bottom of the hopper by a disgruntled 16-year-old who wants to thumb through Facebook updates on his phone. They take huge bags of russet potatoes and turn Mr. Ginzu on them, chopping and slicing manly Idahoan hunks into proper American fries. These are fries you can chew down before besieging the British redcoats, mowing down the Nazi German defenses to duel with a hoard of Communist bears wearing steampowered mecha armour. Sparing dashes of salt and seasoning are applied to enhance the overwhelming might of potato power coursing through my veins alongside adrenaline, rather than disguising the fact I'm eating battered cardboard at other nameless fast food joints. Even the junior size provides ample sustenance for a hungry tummy. They come hot, crisp, and mouthwateringly good. My beau and I have been known to stage lightning raids on the bottom of the bag hoping for a last chipped beam of fry just in case. Should there be a tornado, I have full faith Five Guys' fries would act as central beams and reinforce my roof. The burgers here are made to order, with the usual assortment of condiments (ketchup, lettuce, caramelized onions, tomatoes, cheeses, green peppers, olives, etc.). Beware at the size distortion: a regular burger feeds a couple, and comes with two patties instead of one. I can barely manage a junior size at my hungriest. The hamburgers are heavier on grease than I would like. Cheese never seems to completely melt out of its waxy raincoat consistency. Five Guys makes me wait more than five minutes for their unearthly fries, but showing up here just blows my healthy eating out of the water anyways. I might as well stew over how awesome and fantastic this bout of French fry goodness is going to be before I return to the office to slay database demons, duel macros, and unleash organizational superpowers on my latest project. I always get my food to go since the dining area is roughly the size of a playground slide. Parking along the 12 Mile corridor is a nightmare, so if you fancy a spot of exercise, park in Meijer or up the street and hoof it. This is my go to restaurant when I want a delicious and fresh burger, made to order. I have a decent sized appetite and order the following: Little Cheeseburger (one patty) with lots of toppings, and a Little Fry. Both of these items, although "little", are big in size. Against my better judgment, we went back to this place and tried again. It turned out to be a good move. They seem to have their act together more than before. Let me give you some observations. The burgers were pretty good. It is hard to make a great burger if it is cooked well-done, but these, although well-done were still pretty juicy and the toppings were very nice. I ordered a regular cheeseburger (which means it is a double) with grizzled onions, tomatoes, lettuce, green peppers and mayo. Not bad. Not great, but not bad. The fries were very good, The size of a regular order was enough for two people. They were hot too, which is always a plus. And they were not the flavored kind. Just regular fries, properly cooked and served. Service was better than the last time I visited, although it did take them quite a long time to get the order into the bag from the time I ordered it. Anyway, these folks have upped their game and I wanted to let folks know. BTW, I hear they are going to put a new Five Guys at the corner of Maple and Telegraph soon. Once we decided on Five Guys, he whipped out a menu order form for the 10+ employees working that day. Each column represented a person's order. You circled what type of burger you wanted, the sides, and the sauce. We faxed it in and by the time I got there to pick up the burgers, each person's order was in a separate numbered bag. This is a review for the Five Guy's in Southfield. My major beef with this store is simple- they don't have any strawberry soda. In the Detroit store, that was the best part of the experience, because very few places carry it. Went to Five Guys on a Saturday night for dinner w/ some friends. I've heard some good things but never really asked what was good or anything about the restaurant. They have a simple menu. Burgers, hot dogs, and fries. The burgers and hot dogs are a set price and you can choose as MANY (or as few) toppings that you would like. The fries come in two sizes... I was sharing food with kekkles so we each got our own burgers and split the large fries (we got cajun style), good thing we did, they are a meal in themselves. Food came out quickly, but in case u were starving like i was...they had peanuts you could just shell and eat while you're waiting. ... It was a GREAT burger from a "fast food" joint. Fries were mountainous. Everything felt fresh and like it should have. Went in starving and went away full. This place makes the short list of best burgers that I've had in Michigan. I don't give out many 5 stars...but 5 Guys gets my seal of approval. There were a few dull spots though, the burger can get a little sloppy and messy and the hot dogs were definitely not worth getting...but why would you get a hot dog at a place named "five guys BURGERS..." anyways? read more

If you've had a bad day and want nothing more than to wallow in self pity and a delicious greasy hamburger this is the place to go. The basic burger comes with two burger patties WHICH I ALWAYS FORGET until the last minute and then you load the burger with whatever toppings your heart desires at no additional cost. You have all your basic toppings (lettuce, tomato, cheese, mayo, ketchup etc.) and maybe more exotic ones as well but I'm never that daring. The french fries are delicious and hot and basically shoveled into your bag regardless of what size you order. If you have peanut allergies you have to stay far away from this place b/c they have open crates of peanuts stacked all over. This is by no means a "fast food" place however. They make your burger when you order it, there is usually a lot of yelling going on and you should expect to wait about 10-15 minutes for your food - but I think it's worth it. read more

Unfortunately, at Five Guys, you pay for a ton of toppings whether you want them or not. 15 toppings or 1, it is the same price except for cheese or bacon. I don't like subsidizing another person's tomatoes and grilled mushrooms. A burger needs fries or onion rings. Since they don't serve onion rings, I order their fries. They are expensive, but you get a lot. Too much! I can't eat an entire order and I hate wasting food. The fries really aren't that great either. They aren't crispy and addictive like McDonald's or steak fries like Red Robin, but 1/4 inch cut fries that need ketchup and often wilt while eating them. Five Guys boomed in popularity when Obama ate at one and the line used to be out the door. Went here and ordered a cheese burger and left all the way home to see that my burger had bacon on it which I never ordered and I'm allergic to bacon!!! Came back up there and every employee seemed to have an attitude even the manager which was some lady. No one apologized or said sorry especially when I told them I was allergic. Used to like this five guys, but now I plan to not come here ever again!! read more

Really slow service. Guy was nice but definitely shouldn't have taken as long as it did for a just a shake when hardly anyone was there. Oh well. Also saw a few girls in the back on their phones messing around. Shake wasn't bad though read more

Second time at Five Guys, soooo good! Excellent customer service. I felt so bad because we walked in 15min before closing and we didn't know they were closing so soon. They still had a smile on their face and made the best burger, shake and fries. read more

I like five guys burgers there very good. Not a big fan of there ff's, there always soggy and limp. I asked for well done cripsy fries and I even confirmed with the guy and of course they were soggy. Something about Five Guys giving customers well done crispy ff's is not in there vocab. read more

Oh my gosh. So long Burger King. Good riddance McDonald's cardboard fries. Wendy who??? If I have to spend money on fast food burgers this is it. Juicy, hot and fresh with toppings galore if you so desire. And a heaping amount of fries for $6 bucks?! I'm all in. read more
