just wanted to share a quick note based on my recent visits. The food here is honestly excellent -- I absolutely love it and it's the reason I keep coming back. One thing I've noticed both times dining in is that tables around me were being cleaned with strong products while I was still eating, sometimes very close by. The fumes can be a bit overwhelming and take away from the experience. I completely understand the importance of keeping everything clean, and I appreciate that -- just hoping there might be a way to time it or adjust it so it's a bit more comfortable for guests who are still eating. It's inside of a gas station but it's not what you would think. It's actually really good. Sure, you will have to share parking lot with people who are trying to come in for their gas tank, but that's not the end of the world. They do have actual parking there as well even though it's not a lot but it's something. So they took consideration to that! When you come into the shop it is half gas station half restaurant. So you can order something and then go next door to the gas station, and pick up something to drink or whatever you want. I actually ordered mine online and went to get it. And they had it ready as soon as I walked in the door. There were people already there sitting down eating, and they were watching a ball game on TV. There's a TV there so if you want to check the score, you can do that. Bacon chili cheese fries - The fries I probably should not have gotten the way I got them. I got bacon chili cheese fries with onions. Now you know how it is when you have fries or anything with cheese on it, after a while, the cheese doesn't work in your favor. I don't know how long the fries were sitting there, because I assume that it was ready in a timely fashion, but the cheese settled a little too fast and it didn't really do it for me. Cold cheese congealing isn't really the move. So I got a couple good bites in it The original - This burger was good. It was an old fashioned burger but it was very well done. Not well done in the sense of the meat but it was done very well and for a classic type Burger I would recommend. Bbq - The barbecue Burger they had was really good. It got a little messy though so just keep that in mind! But the flavor was definitely on point. Overall you need to definitely give this place a try. Located in a gas station, this isn't your expected treat. You order at the counter and they call your name when it's ready. This is not fast food, it's cooked to order. I ordered a Breakfast Burger ($17). This has a Fried egg, beef bacon, Swiss cheese, grilled onions, green peppers, tomato, Taystee's Original Sauce with 2 grilled cheese sandwiches as a bun! It is delicious. By far the best gas station burger I've had. But seriously it's probably in the top 10 Burgers I've had. I also ordered an 8 piece Bbq Wings ($12). They were small, but cooked perfectly and very tasty. I really enjoyed them and the bbq sauce. Lastly I got an order of Onion Rings ($8). It was a good size in the order. That being said I thought they were only okay and wouldn't get them again. The service was super friendly and efficient and made ordering super enjoyable. They seemed like they enjoyed their job. Overall a 5 star review. Would I return? Absolutely. A truly delicious burger. Taystees is bar for bar the best burger I've ever had. They are halal, which is also a huge plus. Every time I have friends or family visit from out of state who are big burger fans, I immediately take them to Taystees and have only ever heard feedback that it's also the best burger they've tried. I tend to get the Ali's Notchyo Burger, but I've had a bunch of them and have enjoyed them all, although some are definitely too fatty/heavy for my taste. The curly fries here are also incredible. One time, I took a trip to Toronto and stopped by a burger shop and the owner asked where I was from. When I told him Detroit, he asked if I had been to Taystees and when I said 'yes', he had his staff try to whip up a special burger to try and compete with theirs (still wasn't as good as Taystees, although a great burger!) Taystees has multiple locations but the original and the one closer to me is connected to a gas station, so it's interior has some seating but definitely nothing fancy. If you are looking for a more classic restaurant interior, I would suggest going to their newer location as that is fully a restaurant. read more

I was looking for a quick bite during travel. Found this place with amazing reviews and locate it right by a BP. There were some doubt before going in as it was by a BP but decided to take a look. Then it surprised me with a wall of awards and we were like this is it. The cashier recommended the Midwest style fries, heavy but fantastic taste. I did not order any soft drink to offset some guilt of having too much calories for lunch. Then I ordered a grilled chicken sandwich, which I have to say that this may be one of the best I've ever had. I did not feel the need to add more sauce or drink water to adjust the taste. It reminds me the chicken sandwich I had from the McDonalds in China, which is higher end compared with ones in CAN or US and different level of quality. So the first time I came here was in 2018 and I remember this being the best burger I've ever had and til this day, I'll admit it's a pretty solid burger. This place is truly the definition of a hole in the wall because it's on the side of a BP gas station. We stood in line about 5 minutes and it took maybe 15-20 minutes for the food to be ready but honestly they make everything in front of you. The burger tastes delicious because of all of the toppings that go in it. The burger patty itself reminded me of the thin frozen ones you make at a family BBQ. I had to downgrade from 5 stars to 4 stars. I've been here several times, and I used to grade their burger a solid 5, but not this time. It just wasn't as juicy, or flavorful, as I have tasted in the past. I am wondering if maybe they changed their beef mix? It's a good burger, but I used to grade it as great, among the best I've had. I was there Saturday, around 6:30pm, and the place had 4 empty tables, which I thought was odd - since that was basically dinner time, on a Saturday. Maybe it was just a slow day, but other times I've been there, tables were full, and there were lines of people waiting for food, or to order. I think the fries are different too, IIRC, they used to hand cut their fries from fresh potatoes with a fry cutter, and now they are using frozen fries. The fries are still good, but, not great. I got the-Notch-Yo-Burger which comes with lettuce, tomato, grilled onions & jalapeño, American swiss, pepper jack, nacho cheese, beef bacon, nacho cheese Doritos, mayo & hot sauce on an onion bun. I customized to omit 4 ingredients. It was so juicy, cheesy & just burgerlicious. I had trouble finishing the burger since it was so filling. We also got bacon cheese fries which was perfect if not just a bit too salty for me but damn, those fries were good. I wish I had another stomach for the fries. Its hard to find such a good halal burger place imo. So, when ya opening a location in NYC? I ain't movin to Michigan so ya need to move to me. It's just about as good as people say it is. I can't assume how hype your friends are, but if the level headed one is saying this is their go-to spot, trust them. The same items that went viral years ago are still on the menu, and according to some locals, still just as good. If you're looking for a reason to go, this is it. As I try to do when hitting up a restaurant for the first time, I went off-hours so I could get a feel of the menu, ask some questions and give them time to work. Everyone we spoke to was super welcoming, happy to recommend and the tall brother in the black shirt even whipped up something special for us. Best part, service and turnaround looked just as good when the rush hit. For food, we got the Ali's Natch-Yo Burger, which was rich but still very crushable, but not for those weak of heart (unless you're sharing). We also had their Steak Sandwich, which is not exactly a Philly but just as good as one. I would recommend eating it over fries because it falls apart. Talking about fries, their Cajun fries were salty, too salty but cooked well. Finally we had their Knockwurst which wasn't bad, but it's a run of the mill halal hot dog. Definitely a pass next time. Overall, this is probably the best food and vibes you're doing to get out of a gas station. It's worth every penny you spend, even if some of it is getting the Detroit Halal experience. Was in the area and we had to try a Taystee burger after hearing so much about it. We each ordered the original and large order of seasoned fries. The burger is generous in size and tastes as good as it looks - juicy and very fresh. Freshly toasted brioche bun, uber fresh meat, lettuce, tomato and pickles. A bit messy with the sauce and the grilled onions but don't all good burgers have some mess to them? The large fries also were more than one would expect, we couldn't finish the basket between the two of us. The fries tasted great, a little crunchy on the outside, soft inside-perfectly done. No sogginess whatsoever. The location we went to was inside a gas station, yes in a gas station. They have one side of the building with some have seating inside, 4 tables. . It was clean. A lot of traffic coming into the burger side which is a testament to the food, and not as bothersome if dining in as one would think since the tables are spaced out a little bit. The gas station side has a small convenience store with a wall of refrigerated drinks to choose from -drinking fountain was out of order so we had to buy our drinks from the gas station side. read more

The burgers are phenomenal. We had the Volcano burger and the Nach-yo Burger, and while both were good, I'm ordering the Nach-yo burger next time! It's so flavorful and perfect with its mix of textures and tastes. Yum! Their cheese sauce is crazy good. I really liked the jalapenos on the Volcano, but the poppers were better just on their own. I'd order those separately next time. I'm also looking forward to trying one of their more basic burgers, because the meat is so flavorful and perfectly cooked. The cheese was perfect, toppings fresh, and a perfect soft bun. A truly great burger at a great price. We also had the West Coast Fries which lasted the whole weekend for the 2 of us - a huge portion. Personally, I didn't love the caramelized onions on the fries because it gave them a sweet flavor, but I'm sure that's just me! Delicious homemade sauces and the beef bacon is yummy. Lastly, we had the wings, which were large and pretty tasty, but were the frozen breaded kind, then fried and sauced, not my fave. But a great value for your money. We had a meeting to attend nearby. So I referred to my handy Yelper bookmark list and was drawn to Taystee's Burgers, which I had saved long ago. Then I went directly into phase 2 where I check the Yelp reviews and photos to make some preliminary choices to order, which I usually modify as the date approaches. Our plan was to meet up with a good friend around three O' Clock before our five O' Clock closing. I did have trouble finding Taystee's Burgers, drove past it before I finally pulled into a parking lot close to the address, and decided to call them. We were in the right lot but because it was set back from the road behind a Kroger gas station, it wasn't visible when driving by. When we entered, we found a large open dining area with the order counter and the kitchen at the far end. I called our friend who was also circling the area looking for the restaurant and talked him in. I approached the counter and placed our order: the Breakfast Burger and (Beef) Bacon Cheese Fries with a Diet Coke. Our friend ordered the Grilled Chicken Queso Bowl. A few minutes later, we were seated and ready to dig in. The Breakfast Burger was just what I had expected: big, loaded with everything, sandwiched between two Grilled Cheese Sandwiches as the buns! It really delivered on the flavor and the portion size. Now, full disclosure here: I had no intention of trying to eat this by myself as I cut it in half to share with my wife. The Fries were a nice balance to the meal although a bit too salty (from the halal bacon) for my taste buds. It was pretty great when it first opened. The last time I was here was in 2021, and I think even the year before that I noticed a change: the beef that they use for patties is different. It's not seasoned very well anymore (needs salt, and tastes bland) and tastes like a leaner mix of beef. Maybe that's fine with the more indulgent options (dorito, knockwurst burger, etc) but it should be the same across the board, especially for the basic cheeseburger it should stand on its own. Today I got the knockwurst, and damn prices here have shot up. I think last time I was surprised too; I feel like it was $13 or so I paid for a burger and fries in 2021. Now it's almost $15 for the knockwurst, and a small fry is $4... which means with tip I'm over $20 for a burger and fry meal at a gas station burger joint, not a full service restaurant. Also, this time the fries tastes different as well. I used to swear they were some of the best in the region, and now, they were kinda meh. I know they are using fresh russets, but something was missing, and I think it didn't have that deep golden crust they usually (or used to?) put in it (maybe they are single frying instead of twice frying). Man, I know you guys are opening up a franchise in Warren out where I live, but this is how you lose business! Don't change things that work! Don't make customers feel gauged for a burger, even a specialty burger. If the basic cheeseburger is $10-11, $13 feels around right for one with more toppings. I looked at the old menu, just a few years back I could have gotten what I got today for $12, not $19.50. I know, inflation, but you gotta understand we are all being asked to adjust to these kind of prices everything in a few short years and wages haven't gone up to match. And it's also the mental association we have with what we consider a decent, affordable or cheap meal that still tastes good. I guess my 'beef' is mostly with the beef - make it taste better and I'll come back, and fix those fries or twice fry them again. read more

In reality, it was shredded pieces of steak- well flavored and marinated in a wonderful brown secret sauce, melted between God knows what kind of cheeses, jalapeños which were fresh, but not spicy, and onions...MMM...JUST SO GOOD! I came here for lunch because I had seen such good reviews and wanted to try out a new spot. It's attached to a gas station so the curb appeal was lacking, but they have amazing reviews so I was expecting the food to be great. The service was so friendly and gave us free soda because it was our first time there. The menu is pretty large with the most creative burgers on there! Some sounded strange, but they must be popular! There were so many that I wanted to try but I have a sensitive stomach so I didn't want to get anything too crazy. They also have lots of different options for fries that were also so unique. I got the original burger and my husband got the Mac Attack Burger. We didn't wait long and the food was out quickly. We got plain fries, which were cooked perfectly and tasted fresh. My burger was fantastic. It was messy and juicy, and overall delicious. My husbands burger was sooo good, if I could eat fried cheese I would've preferred his. I can't wait to come back and try all their other burgers. We left saying, "let's come back next weekend!" Wow! Gas station burger?! What..... This place is amazing. From menu burgers to customizing them to the way you want them. Prices are great, friendly staff amazing tasting burgers and fries. I got the Tastees original and it amazing. Loved the tastees sauce topped with the grilled onions. With a side of Cajun fries. Everything was delicious, and made to order. The Cajun fries do have a legit kick so careful. Will be back to try their other burgers.
