Disappointing experience at Brays today. I went through the drive-thru and placed a sizable order totaling around $48. When I got to the window and handed over my debit card, I noticed I was charged an even $50 instead. Though it was only a couple of dollars more than expected, I didn't say anything at the time, thinking I could just tip the staff, which I did, adding an extra $5. Once I got home, however, I discovered that two of the burgers I ordered were missing. I called the store, and the young man who answered was the same person I had dealt with at the drive-thru. I explained the situation and asked if he could either note my name for a future visit to give me the burgers or refund me. He apologized that he forgot to put the burgers in the bag and put me on hold to consult with his manager. When he came back, he asked if I could return that same day. I said I couldn't, and he suggested he would write my name down but implied that if they forgot or lost the name, I would be out of luck for the $10 worth of burgers. I found that response unacceptable, told him such and requested to speak to a manager. The shift lead, Robert, assured me he would write my name down and take it to the manager's office, hoping they would honor the mistake when I return? Not sure if there is a lack of training or lack of caring but there should be some system in place for when these mistakes happen, it's natural for things to get missed occasionally. Curious about whether this issue was common, I checked other reviews online and have found that I'm not alone. It seems several customers have also reported being charged incorrectly and having similar problems. Overall, I understand mistakes happen, but the lack of follow-through and accountability was frustrating. I hope they can improve their service for future customers. I can't say I was a regular for Bray's but me and my family have gone many times over the past 25 years. Today has rubbed me the wrong way, and now I feel like a Karen for having to post a negative review. I will definitely be looking into the overcharge though now, since other reviews have also mentioned being overcharged. Oh... the food I did take home wasn't bad. read more

Bray's Hamburgers has been serving this community for generations and I have to say that the burgers are good, but I think that it also is nostalgia that keeps coming back to this long-standing burger joint. Bray's Hamburgers has a pretty humble ambiance, but that is fine. There is nothing fancy about a burger (though it is definitely a great culinary treat) and sometimes the best ambiance to enjoy a burger is in a humble setting. Overall, Bray's Hamburgers must be doing something right as they have been here so long, I can't imagine this area without Bray's Hamburgers. read more

They don't care about their customers, like the previous owners did. They will close the business down for the whole summer and think things will go back to normal. Food quality has gotten worse, burger patties are no longer freshly made and are premade and stacked up and are cold. Prices have been increased AGAIN. They want us to pay more for bad quality and old food. Someone is going to get sick this way!! PLEASE go to Bates or some where else that will give you a fresh made to order burger and prices are reasonable. I've heard a lot about Bray's over the years but since I don't live on this side of town, I haven't had a chance to try them out. Since I was here for an event on Saturday, I thought, why not, let's go check them out. When I pulled in, I wasn't even sure if the lobby was open. It was a Saturday evening and there was two cars here and the inside looked empty. Not a promising sign. Walking up to the door they had a sign posted saying there's no waitstaff and I'd have to order at the carryout area and then they'd bring my order to me. The inside was clean, but again, it was just me in the dining area. Weird. I approached the counter and the young men working were very busy manning the drive through. I scoured the menu and went with the two cheeseburger combo which came with fries and a drink. Yet another sign at the register stated no drink refills are allowed. So many rules! LOL. Anyway, service was quick and the staff was friendly, so that's a bonus. I sat myself at a table and waited. Eventually my food came out, and I liked what I saw. The burgers themselves were good, but there were a few hiccups. For starters, the ketchup at my table was empty. I took the bottle to the counter and left it there for them to refill and went to grab another one off the table. Second bottle from another table was empty as well. The third table didn't even have Ketchup. I finally found one at the bar area and moseyed my way back to my food. Now that the ketchup situation was handled, I dug into my food. Went to get a sip of my Dr. Pepper and it was literally WARM. At this point, I was so irritated that the thought of running back up to get more was just aggravating. I don't know if they put the pop on the grill, or what but it tasted like it had either been sitting out for a while or something. Very irritating. Overall it was a mediocre at best experience. I think I would have been more furious if I had done the drive through and gotten home to find this all out. The place seems like it has to many hiccups and that the staff seemed a bit overworked. They could do better and hire a few more staff for the grill area to ease the stress of the staff. I know the ketchup situation is minor in the scheme of things, but restaurants don't run themselves. The dining area's basically ignored and condiments are running low or out all together. Do better Bray's, you need to do something besides let a bunch of teenagers run amuck in the kitchen and maintain your dining area. read more

Ordered 2 cheeseburgers and large fry. Burgers were cooked perfectly. Hot. Juicy. So good. The fries were more than I expected size wise. But the top fries were cold to the touch. This is the second time that I've tried this restaurant within a month. Both times I was hungry and made the same order for a double cheeseburger with a mini fry. The fist time I thought the food was pretty good. This last time the burger and fries were lukewarm and the meat wasn't so desirable. While standing near the register while waiting to get my order, I glanced over at what appeared to be a filter underneath the counter located to the left of the grill. It was horribly filthy that it almost looked like the filter that belonged on an old car. I walked in, ordered 10 hamburgers and the guy behind the counter grabs a bunch of cooked patties from a bin made probably hours ago and put them on the grill to warm them up. I've been eating at Brays since the 90s and it hasn't changed one bit (in a good way). Burgers n dogs n fries, and they serve breakfast too. The draw here is definitely the burgers. It's a diner type burger with a whole mess of grilled onions served on top. They also have a thicker patty burger if that's what you fancy. Add a side of chili cheese fries and a chocolate malt and you're good to go. They don't put a lot of rep behind their coney dogs but they're actually pretty good. The breakfast is so-so, but the breakfast sandwiches are pretty awesome. Bacon or sausage, egg n cheese, and you can get it on a bun, bagel, or Texas toast. Bray's has the wonderful benefit of being on my drive to Emagine, a theater I've been hitting a lot lately for late night movies. Every single time I drive by and think, "man, I could go for a slider!" But there's never enough time to eat before a flick. But last week I had 25 minutes to kills so I finally made it over there for a couple of slider and fries. YES. MMM. Crinkle fries and burgers. Comin' at you all greasy with those cooked onions on a white bun with a side of pickles. A great, unhealthy, but quick dinner! The fries come out mega hot, perhaps a little under salted, but that's easily remedied by a shake over them with the salt shaker. I ordered a diet coke and the gal hooked me up by adding a little cherry flavor in there. Kind of makes it not exactly diet anymore, but darn tasty. Win! When I had to run out the door to the movie she dumped it into a cup for me to go. Double win! The folks behind the counter are very nice and VERY, uhm...interactive. If you're looking for a quiet meal this may not be the place for you. Lots of sparring and bantering with the cooks and waitresses will happen. They'll make fun of each other and try and get you in on the act. They'll shout to other regulars and bring you into their jokes. I went to brays tonight to get some burgers for my husband and myself. I ordered 4 double cheese burgers and I received 4 single cheese burgers. I called up there to let them know of their mistake, and he told me I needed to bring the food back up there. I assured him I was home already and was very hungry and that we started eating already. He said I needed to bring to food back and could not offer me anything else if I didn't bring the food back. While talking with my brother last week he told me that he stopped by Brays last week for some burgers. He told me that they were no longer using the sliced onion that have been the best part of the burgers for years. Having been a customer for 60 plus years I decided to stop and see for myself. I grew up in Westland and have been coming here all of my life - back when the donkey was on the outside and there was that little carry out area. What I really love is the original belly buster. It's a double patty with cheese, some kind of thousand island sauce, pickles and oh yes, grilled onions. Sometimes the cook gets carried away with the amount of sauce so I always ask them to go just a little light, but that's just me. The fries are crinkle cut, unfortunately frozen from a bag. If you ask them to make them crispy they will, that helps. I mostly hit the drive-thru, and they are pretty quick considering the freshness of all of the food. read more

My brother introduced me to Bray's on a dark cool night after returning from our vacation in Fl. Boy did I have no idea what was about to happen. I hale from Troy, and I've tasted telway so when I hear slider that's what I think of. I can say I was happily surprised by what came out. It was almost a mini hamburger, and it was called 'the original belly buster.' This shiny simple bun greets you on the plate. It hides inside of it a two juicy patties, a heap of sauteed onions, cheese, and thousand island. This is the best mini hamburger / slider I've had in my travels. A lot of times I find 'special' sauces such as thousand island or otherwise to be 'masks' for lack of a better term. They kind of cover up imperfections, and add moisture to an otherwise dry burger. This isn't true of the Bray's original belly buster. It's juicy as all heck already, and it captures the zing of that sauce as a component. I've ventured from Troy to Westland to visit Brays three additional times now. Even with gas prices as they are, I never regret the commute. ps. I told my sister that I needed to make a run to brays. She told me she'd never been! This person is known for a lifetime and she's moved back to Westland and never been to Brays! Bray's Hamburgers on Ford Road is a taste treat. A piece of Americana. They have great burgers, cheeseburgers, chili fries and a short selection of tasty, classic milkshakes. I like the vanilla the best. My two guests enjoyed chocolate when we stopped in recently. They put on some luscious onions and cook the burgers up just right. Their buns have a unique flavor. Before I go on any further I have to tell you that the menu pricing is tremendous. Reasonably priced for a filling and tasty meal. The dining area, including the counter, is kept sparkling clean. It is well lit and brightly colored. Service is quick and efficient. Keep an eye on the tab as you would anywhere. They have a great takeout window and I have yet to see them fail to supply any order no how large. I was there waiting for a pickup one day and hundreds of the burgers made their way out the window - must have been some big party. While there enjoy the large statue in the entry way. I been eating at Brays since it only had a few stools and a walk up window, it's always been my favorite place, until now. I'm not sure who the owners are now, but they need to get out of the restaurant business. We showed up and they weren't busy at all, only one other table, there was 3 waitresses but only one was doing anything. I asked the waitress how big the large chili cheese fries ( me and my wife were going to split them) she showed us with her hands how big they were, so we order those and 5 cheese burgers. She asked us what we wanted to drink, my wife just wanted water and I ordered a Vernors. After we ordered, she dropped off our drinks, then a few more people came and sat down. I took a drink and I noticed it was an off brand ginger ale and not Vernors, the cook came to the table and dropped off just our burgers but no fries, I asked her to tell the waitress that I'd like something different to drink. I heard the cook yell to the waitress that our fries were done (we were waiting on our fries to eat our burgers because we like to eat them together. After 5 or so minutes the cook brought us our fries, they had only cheese on them, I told her they were supposed to be chili cheese fries and she told me they don't sell large chili cheese fries. I said that when we ordered the waitress said they did, she rolled her eyes and sighed and took the fries to the back. She came back a few minutes later and told me that she talked to the owners and they said they can't put chili on the fries, but I could buy a side of chili and put it on myself. By this time our burgers were cold and so were the fries and still no drink or waitress. The rest of the place was also complaining of how bad the service is, so one of the other waitresses started to help, first thing she did was bring us our check. They charged us for a drink, 5 cheese burgers, a large fry, a side of chili and two sides of cheese. I went up to pay and asked her to take the drink off the bill because I never had my drink replaced, she called the waitress over and she wanted to argue saying I got what I asked for. I told her that the ginger ale they had wasn't Vernors and it's not what I ordered and that I never got a replacement, she stormed off and came back a few minutes later and agreed to take the drink off. Very disappointed after reading prior reviews. Went there on s Saturday at 3:30pm. Two cars ahead of us and wait was long to get to window. Was not concerned yet as you gotta wait to get to Culvers window and the food is good. Got our food. Fries were HOT (good sign) but not a spec of salt so they were bland. Soda was flat like Iowa.
