Came in on a Thursday night when everything else was closed after hitting the casino and a bar. I ordered a cheeseburger and fries, it comes with grilled onions but I decided against those. It was not busy at 1130pm so we were helped immediately. The burger was good 8/10 and the fries were hot, needed salt and ketchup but that is expected. At the end of the day this slider is better than having McDonald's. Stop in after partying if you need quick food that is made fresh on the grill! read more

Older work crew that works hard at taking orders and keeping up but does a good job. Food is always good but with all the germs I'm not happy that the cook does not wear food gloves while handling your food and that's a BIG negative for me. This last remaining location open in 1950 corner of Southfield n Outer Drive. Open 24 Hours now closed on Monday, Breakfast 4am till 11am only. Ms Pat a Cook for 55 years going strong, she made our food today . She had a pair of the Big Burgers with Deep Fried Mushrooms . I ordered the Triple Cheeseburger on the menu with Onion Rings . Thursday is Coney Day had to add a pair of Coney Dogs. Place packed at 1pm all stools taken, parking lot full and they running outta plates. Three hard working ladies behind the counter, so Happy to help the customers unlike many places today . Spotless clean the place shines, at one time had a dozen locations. Fantastic old school slider spot. On par with Telways, but bigger burgers. They have a lot of verity on their menu too! I always get a Boston cooler when I go there! If you place a phone order unfortunately depending on who's working, they will not make the order until you get there... It may be from people placing orders and not getting them, so I guess we all have to suffer because of that. read more

Carters is a Detroit area staple. The food is fast and hot and good, for a dive restaurant. Carter's has a small parking lot which is well lit and conveniently located. Carter's runs specials certain days of the week. They have coney specials and burger specials. Their burgers are small, but quite food. The coney is a home run. Carter's seems to have somewhat of a cult following, I know that every time I visit Detroit, which sadly is quite often, I make sure I hit Carter's for a bag of burgers and I eat a coney dog while I wait for them to be cooked. If you don't like onions, have them hold them or you'll have a lot of grilled onions on your burger. read more

Pretty good burgers, I would suggest either getting a double patty or ordering more than 1 burger because the patties are on the smaller size, probably comparable to the size of a McDonald's cheeseburger . Knocked off 1 star because I had a ton of grilled onions on my burger. Usually I don't mind grilled onions because it adds good flavor but I will have them hold off on the onions next time. Cute dining area inside as well, the bar stools and the old school jukebox in the middle. Due to Covid we couldn't sit and eat but will definitely be coming back. Carter's was just ok. I've eaten here too many times to count but this day the burgers were crunchy on one side which made the burger unpleasant to eat. I had two hamburgers I asked for extra onions I didn't get that. The older lady taking orders her hearing is worst than mines I'm partially deaf and read lips this lady must be partially deaf too but she don't read lips seems like she was a bit aggravated maybe she was tired because she was a little grumpy. On a good note my coke was excellent and strong they got awesome. Will I go back I sure will! read more

There's no real reason to leave a detailed review here. You know what you're getting in a local, divey burger/slider spot. The burgers are slightly bigger than sliders, and prepared in a very similar fashion. Not as good as Telway in my opinion, but then again, who is? The onion rings were pretty tasty, too. A little bit pricey, and they only accept cash, but the service is polite, fast, and efficient. They also have breakfast options and a more extensive menu than most slider joints, so that's a bonus. 24hr side the road joint. Decent food and a funny overnight cook/cashier/host/waitress (All 1 person)... when I was told it's a cash only joint I got curious. These type of places are typically a little gem from the history chronicles of the city with good food that's fast. Diner style but small building. I did enjoy the breakfast sandwich thoroughly. My buddy enjoyed his chilli cheese fries. So no complaints. Also they have Pepsi products and not that nasty Coke... would I do it again? Yes. They also have this thing with charging a done in price versus a to go price... Never saw some thing like this but I still ordered and was glad I did. Ooohhhhhhh and they have a jukebox. Better than many other white tile burger places in the area... but still not as good as Telway (nothing is, though!). They let me order cheese fries even though they aren't on the menu, and they used actual cheese, not cheese sauce, so they were fabulous. They also allowed me to order no onions on my burger, which the Detroit Telway does not (but the one in Madison Heights does). This place is close to my work, so I will definitely be back. They were paid for and half finished before I realized that both of the people working that shift were manning the grill, the cash register, and taking orders with their mandatory masks pulled down on to their chins. Sliders are a very personal thing. Everyone's got a fave. I try to judge each on their own merit but I will cop to being heavily biased to a childhood fave. Here the burgers are a bit bigger, the onion is cut larger and is a bit less cooked than some places, the bun is a trifle more solid. I prefer a little less overall. That being said though, this is a pretty damn good burger that I enjoyed. I tried a variety for experimentation. As usual I preferred my sliders without the cheese, heavy everything. Ahhh bliss, messy and just happy. The fries were not as beloved as my other joint but the onion rings here were crunchy and addictive. Bonus points there. They went quite well with the burgers, yes I ate two. The thing that puts this joint over the top though is the peanut butter milkshake. Good freaking lord that thing is liquid guilt. Beautiful, absolutely amazing. I say this is one of the best balanced type slider places. The burger is not quite the star because the accompaniments are so terrific, but the burger was indeed very good, no slouch or anything. Is it my fave? No. Am I returning? Hell yes! I rarely go there for the sliders, but I do love the Breakfast Special. Even when you get it after the Early Bird Special time frame, it's still less than $4. I know it's technically just 2 eggs cooked to order, 2 slices of bacon, a large heap of hash browns, and 2 slices of toast, but maybe it's the seasoned grill top or something, because I can't make it like that with 100 tries. The ladies that work there are super friendly and it's like Cheers, they'll remember your name and order very quickly. Carter's is also an awesome super late night stop as well, i.e., 4am, after a night of partying. Couple of coney dogs with a chocolate shake will certainly hit the spot. That sounds gross when you're sober, but trust me, it's a great combination at 4am, just sayin'. I really hope Carter's will stay around for many more years. These old school Fountain Service white building diners are like endangered species, if you don't take care of them, they will completely disappear. Carter's is the type of place you go when you've had one too many Ginger ales and taco bell is closed. It's also the type of place that you go when you only have cash on you as there are no debit or credit card machines. I like to describe the burgers at Carter's as homemade White Castles. You can sit at a old school hamburger joint type bar and watch your food being prepared. You may want to try a chocolate shake to make the experience complete. Make sure not to drink much soda, as I don't think there is a public restroom. I can't say that I've ever seen disappointment on people's faces when they ate their burgers, including mine. Times change. There used to be 3, now there is but one. I first encountered Carters burgers as a mere lad of 5, and it was not this location but the one on West Jefferson, which is now closed. I had the opportunity to drop into this location after I dropped a client off at Oakwood Hospital. Since it is illegal for me to pick up and bring the client home, I must come back to Detroit empty. But it doesnt have to be a sad experience. It is this time when I run over to Carters to drown my sorrows in greasy goodness. They are the same burgers I had as a lad. The Big burger is like the Big Mac, but wayyyy better, and the price is nice too. The service, by 3 ladies who have been there longer than I care to remember or even speculate about make sure the place is spotlessly clean and the service as fast as the traffic moving on the freeway.. As I have said before, I am no fan of chain restaurants, and I would ban them if I could because this little place may fall victim to the mentality of McD's. I love Carter's. Walls and ceiling are white porcelain enamel steel plates as is the exterior. Some of them are held in place with random bolts. A little run down. A hint of a musty but slight gas leak fills the dining room. This restaurant likely opened in the early fifties. Its older than some of our parents. But that's what gives it its charm. Above the grill near the window a sign reads "Not responsible for injury caused by spinning stools." Theres a huge jukebox in the center of the room. Some of the stools are mismatched. A few are missing. The second reason you came here was the food. Sliders. It's a Detroit thing. They're a little more expensive than Brays, Telway, Bates and Hunter House. I grew up on this taste. Can't get them in Cleveland. Delicious 1/8 lb. fried burger with grilled onion, pickle, mustard, ketchup served on a greasy bun with a cup of hot coffee served in an old mug by gritty working class servers who tell it like it is. OK, this will be a big shock to Detroiter's all over... I am 26 years old and just had my first non-White Castle slyder yesterday! My girlfriend is 25 and the same applies to her. It probably would have been longer if it wasn't for the evangelistic preachings of Tom F., but I am going to have to get the guy a beer one day. The resturant is the burger joint incarnation of a dive bar. The cook knows most of the people in there by first name. You can order coney island style (6 with every thing), and the colorful characters are abundant. The burgers are awesome for what they are. I kinda wished the onions were diced instead of being stringy because there is huge opportunity for spillage that kinda scared me. I wasn't such a fan of the fries, but my girlfriend mashed them down and she is more of a fry person than me so they must be at the least a little good. Although the outside may look similar to Bates in Livonia, the sliders are not the same! Maybe because my expectations were so low based on the bad Yelp reviews, I thought their sliders were okay and was able to finish eating it. The problems with their sliders is that the bread overpowers the burger patty, is dry, and doesn't go well with the burger patty. The burger patty is also bland unlike Bates whose patties are almost crumbly and full of flavor. Contrary to other reviews, I thought the particular lady that helped us was very nice. However, she seemed very stressed out and overworked. For instance, she acknowledged us the second we walked in but she kept saying sorry I'll get to your order next probably like 3 or 4 times (we didn't even wait that long because we were deciding on what we wanted so it was fine) and she was running all over the kitchen trying to cook and fill orders at the same time. My main complaint about service is that we ordered a malted milk shake and because she had to take orders, cook and bag orders, she left our shake with the shake machine on for literally probably 5-10 minutes, so by the time we got it, it was kind of melted. read more

I ate here once years ago. Bad experience. Stopped in tonight on the way home; still not particularly good, but better than I remember. Cheap and adequate. The bun is not a good match for the burger: too big and too dry. Burger meat was actually okay. Overall, not bad, but not good, either. I grew up with Bates in Livonia, so I'm a bit spoiled.
