So the first time i get home with our burgers, i open em up and go "Oh, I didn't order a double cheeseburger, guy screwed up, maybe thats why it cost 18 bucks for two meals". Supposedly the best fast food burger according to the new Zagat's survey, so when the craving for a burger arose we headed here. The decor is reminiscent of In-n-Out for me, but the burgers didn't take me there. The buns are soft, not toasted or heated as far as I could tell. The condiments that you choose to add are lathered on (my ketchup and mustard was almost a soup it seemed so thick), but at least you can choose whatever condiments you want including grilled mushrooms/onions for no extra charge. The meat although not way overcooked like a lot of places wasn't really flavorful. The regular burgers come with 2 patties which would probably balance out the large buns better, and the "little" burgers are a single patty. We had 2 little burgers, 2 drinks and shared an order of fries (HUGE amount for a 'regular' order) which ended up costing roughly $20. The obvious highlight of the meal (worth of 4 salty stars imo - so the whole place averaged a 3 for me...) were the fries: piping hot, but a bit too much salt for me and literally overflowing in the bag. These are a good bargain (and they've started my poutine craving again!). However, the fries probably won't be enough to get us to return here -- we do have a few other burger places to try when we feel daring but for $20 we may as well go to Red Robin even. The customer service was fine: friendly, polite, informative. There are TONS of peanuts in the place (AYCE I believe), so if you have an allergy definitely stay away. I like Five Guys because every chain I visit has enthusiastic service and consistent quality in food. For a burger joint, it's amazingly healthy. I like to order burgers and get literally all the veggies on it. Mushrooms, onions, lettuce, tomatoes, etc. With this burger alone, it's hard to go home hungry. The fries are amazing for a different reason. The cajun seasoning is really good, and just getting the smallest size will net you more fries than a large order of fries from a different fast food place. The reason is, I think this may actually be a policy, after they put in the fries into the container, they will pour another carton's worth of fries into the bag. So rest assured, this business knows how to make their customers happy and satisfied. A bunch of really nice people work here and usually there's a good mix of families/Microsoft employees/interns here so eating here, I'd imagine most people will appreciate the vibe. read more

Let me start this off by saying this is my boyfriend's favorite burger joint. We come here occasionally, like once every month or so. When we do so, most of the time we order online beforehand. We do so as it's located just around the corner from us- a 5 minute drive. Ordering online means we can get there quickly and most of the time our food is ready by the time we arrive. Maybe 30 mins ago, we had our worst customer service there by far. We came in and stood at the pick up counter. It was just a little busy and after a couple mins standing there waiting to be acknowledged, it was glaringly obvious a man there was the supervisor or shift lead, or someone the other employees viewed as authority. He shuffled around, fetching fries, salting them. Looking at us. Ignoring us. Calling out orders while right next to us. We didn't want to be rude and get in the way of others so we stood by, trying to catch attention by making eye contact. The man never acknowledged us and it was obvious we were being avoided. Another employee also ignored us when she came to bring over a different order. She also kept looking at us and ignoring us. Finally I decided enough is enough and called out, the man finally coming over. I said we have an online order. He asked my name then said "Next time stand in line or make yourself known." We have never. Ever. Ever. Been told to do that... ever. Also I know this guy had watched us enter straight from outside to the counter, quite obviously for an online pickup. This was the worst experience we have had and it was FAR less busy than previous visits. It's a shame because the food is good...we will definitely not return if that customer service doesn't improve...by what appeared to be a supervisor, no less. read more

First impression: Written commendations from all the newspapers, Zagat type reviews, etcetera EVERYWHERE. As a result, my expectations shot through the roof, to a cloudy perch in the heavens, far away from any real burger that could have possibly made its way to my to-go bag. I expected Zeus's hand to slowly descend from the sky and lower the burger down toward my eye level, and I expected to suddenly know what to do with my life once I bit into the patty. This is not what happened. Okay, so what really went down, in no particular order: The guys working the grill were funny and confident in a way that you get, I suppose, when your restaurant is covered ceiling to floor in glowing reviews as part of the decor. I liked their swaggering friendliness. It was memorable. I also liked their relatively unique ordering style: you determine the kind of burger you want, and all additions are free. You can order everything you possibly can put on there for the same price you would pay for whatever other, not-as-cool kind of burger. I approve of that. It just dawned on me why they have the peanuts there for you to snack on: they take a little more time than your average burger joint and so they don't want you to get so hungry you get pissed off. They quell the bad feels with these peanuts. It is also a sneaky tactic to get people to remember the restaurant. "Hey, you remember the place that had those peanuts you can eat, for free..." I don't have a problem with that. My burger was delicious, juicy, and I definitely see why all those people on the reviews were raving this way and that about this place: the guys here somehow have figured out how to cook bacon in such a way that the pork crunched yet retained its juices perfectly. I'm not gonna lie, the crunch and the mushrooms, duuuude. These people are GENEROUS with fries. I can also see why others rave about these - completely doused with salt and seasonings and flavor and you just keep eating and never want to stop. The American Dream, right here, folks. There are some things that could be better, I have to admit after my own glow about the place. Being spoiled about my burgers, I wish the buns and cheese were of higher quality. The burger's messy as all get out (what do you expect?) and I really needed a moist towelette, but there was no moist towelette. (Ivars had someone go around offering these to people. I don't need to speak further.) The music here was loud and I didn't feel comfortable having a conversation as I would have had to shout it in order to be heard. And also, I sat at the tall table: those chairs felt more like art form than a stable device to sit on. So my verdict? I seriously don't buy the hype. Their burgers are okay but nothing to shout about. The ingredients are fresh and you can choose whatever you want on them, but this is not the great burger that I keep hearing people say it is. On the other their web site and online ordering are outstanding. I'm on very low sodium diet and I decided to splurge for lunch. I found from the site's nutritional section that the regular burger only has around 490 milligrams of sodium. One serving of their fries is around 90. That's decent for lunch. Then I ordered pickup online. Took all of 90 seconds and I was told to proceed to the store at my desired time(you can order ahead and specifiy a time) and go right to the pickup counter. Did that and my burger was ready. They don't fire your fries until you get there for freshness so you need to wait a few minutes but I was back at the office with a good burger in less than 15 minutes. read more

They're a chain. I know... and I don't... okay... RARELY review chains. But this was only the second time I've ever been to one. And this visit was to a wholly different location. AND This was the first time I ever ordered a burger ONLINE before even visiting the store. Yeah... ONLINE. Also, this was the first time I've tried their fries. I know... they're KNOWN for their fries. Hell, they have SACKS of potatoes in the lobby to make them in-house. The thing is, I'm not a big fry fan. Where did this new "Five Guys" place come from? This new store opened up in Redmond, and when I looked it up on Google, I found that it's a fast food restaurant to which President Obama apparently gave his seal of approval by visiting the store in DC. If the President takes the time to visit a place personally, then it must be good, right? I was eager to try the location in local Redmond to see how this new restaurant stacks up against the many other burger places in town. Now I know to stick to those other burger places in town. I walked in here and the first thing I noticed was the boxes of peanuts near the door. The interior had a very strong theme of alternating red and white that you can see throughout the place. Combine that with the uniformly-colored wooden tables and you get a kind of 1950s vibe, similar to Ruby's Diner. I guess that's cool, but it's ruined by the terrible music they have playing on the speakers. Good Lord. I stared at the menu for a while, and the girl behind the counter asked me whether it's my first time at Five Guys. Why yes it was, but did I make it that obvious? She explained to me the options I could choose from; they're actually rather limited. It seems their menu has four signature burgers; in ascending order of price, they are the hamburger, cheeseburger, bacon hamburger, and bacon cheeseburger. They apparently also have kids' versions of these four, plus a few other kinds like a veggie burger. The simple menu really reminded me of Dick's, which likes to keep things basic. What didn't remind me of Dick's is how expensive the burgers are. Most of them are over five dollars. Well, seeing as how this was my first time here, I wanted to be fair and give Five Guys the chance to impress me with everything they've got. I ordered the largest, most "complete" burger, the bacon cheeseburger, for $6.49. That's more than twice the price of the equivalent at Dick's, the Deluxe, but I didn't want to order the bare essentials and then complain about it not being enough. Also included were two condiments or whatever you want to call them that the customer gets to choose; I picked relish and grilled mushrooms. I don't know whether mushrooms count as condiments, but I had them included anyway. I also wanted to get their fries. They have a regular and a large size, but the girl there told me that regular is already a lot, so I just went with that for $3.19. The total came to $10.65. It's not very often that I spend so much money at once at a fast food restaurant. So I waited for a long time, and then heard my number being called out. I walked up to the counter and picked up my meal in a brown paper bag. Not the most impressive presentation I've seen. At Fatburger, they serve the stuff to you on a tray while you're seated at a table. No calling of numbers, and no brown paper bag. Peering inside, I saw a lot of fries. Wow, I wasn't expecting that many. Funny thing is how some of them were inside a small white paper cup, the same ones used for drinks. The remaining fries were just scattered around inside the paper bag. Then the burger itself, I found, was wrapped entirely in plain aluminum foil. I set aside the fries for the moment and opened the foil up to find... A tiny, messy burger. Hey, at least the mess wasn't very big! But when it comes to restaurants, generally it's a problem if the food isn't very big. I have no idea why other reviews are lauding how small these things are. I got the biggest, most expensive burger available, so it shouldn't fit so easily in the palm of my hand! The messy part of it comes from being overly greasy and having melted cheese sticking to the foil. The worst part is that the bread is hard to the point of being CRUNCHY. Why are they burning the bread? The burger as a whole didn't taste that great; it was pretty dull and I was too distracted by the crunchiness of the bread. The fries are just as bad. They're so greasy that they made much of the exterior of the paper bag visible with stained grease. They were overly salted; I took a close-up picture where you can see the salt for yourself. Worst part is how virtually every single fry was covered with ugly potato skin. The fries were quite thick, but just not very good. At over three dollars, they are definitely not worth it. And why do they come in a cup and a bag? Why don't they use those same things that McDonald's uses? I thought the point of fast food was to be fast and cheap. Here, I got neither. It's absurd that I could spend nearly eleven dollars for the very minimum at a fast food restaurant and not even have that come with chicken nuggets or a drink. The one plus side to this place is that they have boxes and boxes full of peanuts for you free to take. They're not what I usually expect to find at places like these, but at least they give you something to munch on while you're waiting for your order. But I think you'd be better off going somewhere beside this inferior version of In-N-Out. read more

We heard a lot about that place and decided to go there yesterday evening. We are not quite sure about the hype and all those good zagat ratings and whatnot on the wall. The place is cool looking and we liked the peanuts, but that is basically all. The burger was OK but not a lot of taste. The bun was so soggy that it couldn't hold up the patties and everything just fell apart. The award winning fries were awful, we ordered a large portion and probably threw most of it away. If this is THE review you are reading to decide on Five Guys or not... a few notes. Sometimes the cheese doesn't get melted on the burgers. You CAN overload your burger with just too much stuff here...so be selective and make a REAL masterpiece of a burger for you, not just piling on the stuff. The fries are good. I don't understand this place. What is the big deal about the burger? Ok fancy way of ordering their condiments but again what's the big deal. I only order mine with ketchup and lettuce and grilled onion and that's after my husband begs me to come here. I don't like the patty bc its cooked till the cow died several times over bc it is dry as can be and no amount of sauce is going to bring it back. Why am I never satisfied with the burger even if I add bacon? Bacon always makes everything better but not in this case. I discovered the joy of Five Guys here for the first time earlier this week. I was pleasantly surprised by the fantastically well done burger, and the hand cut fries were possibly the best fries I'd ever encountered (although they put waaaaay (and I mean waaaaaaaaay) too much salt on them). Not to mention those complimentary peanuts. Because of this, I went back a few days later. On this occasion (perhaps because it was less crowded and it had been sitting out) the burger was colder and not as good as the first time. The fries were also slightly undercooked. The typical red and white checkered pattern walls are a staple in every store that you visit. As you enter you hear the bustle, hustle of the workers. THEN, it hits you. THE SMELL OF GODS. That delicious, scrumptious, godly, Five Guys burger smell. When it hits, combined with the fresh cut fries smell, you know you are in for a good treat and the goodliness. Anything far from a typical burger joint, this is a near religious experience. Take it in for what it is, and accept. FOOD It's Burgers and Fries.........but like on steroids. This place is the real deal. It is not a joke matter. In a DIY style, you choose from either a single-patty or double-patty style of burger, ranging from just a normal hamburger to a bacon cheeseburger. Then you add in all the condiments that you want. Brand new location within walking distance from my work? Of course, I'm going to give it a try even though the couple visits I have had to other locations have left me less than impressed compared to how a lot of people think Five Guys is such an amazing burger experience. One also has to keep in mind that there are people that have the same amount of passion and loyalty to burger places like Dick's and In N Out so I take that for what it is. The burgers here are very good with an emphasis on fresh ingredients and you can add whatever toppings you want free of charge after deciding on which burger you want. The burger selection, also like the other previously mentioned establishments is very limited as they focus on making just burgers and doing it really well. The down fall here, for me anyway, is the lack of other options on the menu with the only side option is the french fries. Yes, they are fresh cut and of a higher quality than most other options around, but generally, I'm not a big fan of french fries and especially when they are the softer and soggier variety that is served up here. The fact that they give you a big bag full of them doesn't make up for that fact they just aren't that good and there isn't another option (curly fries? onion rings?). I will definitely be back for more burgers (and free peanuts!), but there is a place also right nearby where I can get a grilled sourdough bacon cheese burger with a pile of delicious curly fries so Five Guys will always be the lesser of the two options. read more

At 11 am on a Saturday I finally decided I needed to get my ass out of bed and get some food. I have been avoiding trying this place for years, because I have heard so many mixed opinions. I was pleasantly surprised how good the burger was. No, it's not like In N Out, and anyone who says that should be ashamed of themselves. But, it was pretty good. I like the fact that I can pick and choose what to put on my burger, because I am so picky. Since I was starving when I went here, I got the regular(2 patties) bacon cheese burger with lettuce, mayo, grilled onions, and ketchup. Next time I wouldn't get ketchup though, cuz they put way too much on there, and the bacon didn't really add anything to the burger.It was a pretty good burger. Not life changing. Not the best burger ever. Not so good that I would crave it all the time. But it was good. The fries though? Yah, not so much. They were ok, but quickly turned to gross as they got colder. A regular burger and fries is definitely too much food. Their servings are huge, which justifies the high price. I could eat another burger though sometime in the future. The burgers themselves are probably as good as any other Five Guys location, they're pretty consistent. Only eating them here is kinda depressing. My first visit. I was a little disappointed when I asked for my burger to be cooked "medium" and was told "sorry, we only do our burgers one way-well done..." There are two problems with that: 1. Anyone who knows anything about meat-knows that you just don't cook meat well-done-ever. 2. If a customer wants something-the smart business would gladly do it-it is just good business sense. Five Guys serves up a pile of meat and potatoes with an emphasis on heft. One should note that a normal burger is 2 patties. This certainly threw us for a loop when we thought the order was wrong. But it was very, very right. And the burgers themselves are quality. Five Guys reminds me of In-n-Out (of which we are big fans, right Zach?) in that the menu selection is very limited, but that just means they do their limited options well. Probably a good business choice as well, Zach. I imagine less waste is generated. But that's an aside. To compliment the burgers are the fries, and the fries are quite good. Big, floppy, and legion. They are well done and well priced, but are noe the only offering available. Freely available are copious amounts of peanuts. This isn't something I would have ever expected, but I am glad that they do this. We are a fan, aren't we Zach? A bit funny that this establishment is closeby to a Subway. A poetic way to cater to the masses, if I do say so myself. If only Emily could nail a recipe like this. That "amazon" style is wreaking havoc on my system Zach. read more
