I wanted to like Coastline Burgers more than I had, especially since it's always a busy spot in downtown Redmond in the most charming building that's still standing when everything else is modernizing. But unfortunately, just like when I first tried Coastline Burgers in Kirkland, I thought it was A-O-K. Some positives of Coastline Burgers are that there's dedicated parking right by the building, is centrally located to the park, Redmond Town Center and other businesses downtown, and the friendly staff and outdoor seating. Again, the stone house building that Coastline snagged is truly a win for the place since it's one of the few historic buildings still standing in the area. But when it comes down to the actual food, the reason why you come here, I can't say I was all that jazzed. I ordered the classic burger with an extra patty, fries and a side of ranch. Is it weird that the best part of my meal was their house-made ranch? I know my ranches, and this one slaps. It's zesty, creamy and flavorful, which is what you need for dipping. This made the skinny fries all the more tolerable. However, I should say that in general, I'm not a fan of skinny fries where you need to grab a bunch to chomp on. But they're decent. They were crispy and freshly fried, so that was cool. But the burger was the biggest disappointment. I think the bun to beef ratio was off, tasting more of the dry bun than anything else. The beef itself was not bad, but wish it was just a tad more seasoned, especially to cut through the dry bun. But it was juicy and not well-done, which I liked, including my dog! Overall, for getting a burger in downtown Redmond in a casual spot where you don't have to wine and dine, Coastline Burgers is one of the few options to do so, if not the only one...question mark? Atmosphere: very limited indoor seating, upbeat music playing in background, lots of grill sizzling sounds. Service: order and pay at the kiosk up front, your name will be called, pick up your order and seat yourself if dining in, water dispenser near the restroom to the left of the kiosks, condiments to the right of the kiosks. Menu: on the kiosk, simple menu with short descriptions containing strictly burgers, shakes and fries. Only 3 canned drink options. Rotating seasonal burgers. The Coastline Burger: great flavor combos and the toppings are very fresh! The only thing I didn't really appreciate was that the patty was so small compared to the bun. I had 1/3 of bun leftover with no patty and toppings. I got a single patty and the sandwich as a whole definitely felt more heavy on the bread side even with the toppings. Haystack Fries: I can eat these ALL DAY. Not overly greasy at all and they have the perfect crispy on the outside, soft on the inside texture. Perfectly salted as well. Pretty generous proportion to share or eat my yourself--get a whole order for yourself if you ask me. Too good to share! This was great food, great value, great location! I'd put this style burger in the realm of Five Guys, Shake Shack, Fatburger... But while those others seem overpriced for what you get these days I think Coastline delivers more. The meal was hot and fresh, with a well flavored patty and wrapped in a nice looking tiny paper sack that left it visible but tightly contained. I went for the bacon burger (only 7.99 and it had thick bacon and fried fresh onions on it?) and added an extra patty for 2 more. I know, a $10 burger with my additions isn't cheap, but the burger was THICK, cheesy, hot, flavorful, and had nice crisp lettuce and pickles with those great fried onions. Add in some shoestring fries and I was stuffed when I finished and will skip the double patty next time. I'm a bit behind on my review, and went back within three days to get more. Got my teenager the same bacon burger (also looooved it) and I tried a coastline burger but subbed grilled chicken. It also came out flavorful and cooked well (could have been a bit jucier but was in no way dry). I'll be back again, maybe along with a walk in the park and some molly moon after. We decided to give this a try for lunch, the sun was out and they got a small cute patio and there is also the park right next door. They got a couple of assigned parking spots as well, very handy. I was excited to see that Coastline Burgers opened in the old stone house, previously home to the, uh, "Stone House Restaurant". So it was with some excitement that I went there today to try it out for lunch. I was really hoping it would be a great experience as I like to pull for the success of local restaurants. Unfortunately, however, my objective review is "myeh". Not bad, but also not anything all that great. My notes: 1. The "Greatest Bun of All Time" was actually kind of dry, and also seemed cool to the touch, as though it just came out of a refrigerator or outside storage. Or maybe just because the room temperature in the place seemed to be about 50 degrees. 2. The burger itself was fine (I ordered "The Coastline", their "standard" burger, without pickles). It was good, but nothing special. Better than a standard "fast food" burger, but to be honest, it falls short of Five Guys. 3. I make this comment with full awareness that the property (the old stone house) is small, and there's not much the proprietors can do about that. But, in any case, interior seating is very limited . . . just some counters around the outside perimeter that collectively provide seating for maybe 10 people, and probably fewer as most people won't want to sit next to a stranger in this arrangement. It's not conducive to eating in a group, though there are a few tables outside, and of course Redmond Downtown Park, which has plenty of tables, is a few steps away. But in our area we have, what, maybe 120 days a year of weather suitable for outdoor dining? 4. Also with respect to the restaurant interior: the temperature was cold and the music was too loud. You'd almost think they don't want people eating in so they deliberately make it unpleasant. 5. I would prefer they offer soft drinks from a soda fountain, not canned soda. But, given that they offer only canned soda, they do get some credit for offering locally-made "Seattle Soda". 6. And, the employee calling out the names associated with completed orders needs to speak up and speak more clearly. He was nearly inaudible. 7. It is a bit irksome that the only way to see the menu online is to begin an order. And, at the location, no menu is available; you see it only when you enter your order on a self-serve kiosk. I don't mind kiosk ordering, but some people might miss the personal touch. 8. I was thinking of ordering fries, but looked around at other customers' fries and saw that the portion is huge. So I passed. Why not offer a smaller size? Sure, I could order fries and not eat them all but (a) that seems like a waste of money and a waste of food and (b) I'd probably succumb to the temptation to eat them all. I don't wish to be a negative nabob, but I need to be objective. I wish this Coastline Burgers success and hope it can address some of the above-mentioned shortcomings.
