Onion? Frilled onion? You get the idea! When they call your order number, the burgers all have a sticker with a number corresponding to if it was ordered first, second etc so there is no confusion. Although the menu lists burgers as "little" or the standard size, the "little" version is a full size burger and enough for a decent appetite. Don't let the names deceive you! The standard sandwiches have two patties, but aren't called double or large. The fries are always fresh with good flavor and it's a solid step above the standard fast food burger if you're not looking for the full sit down experience. It seems cliche to write a review about Five Guys, but I had a burger there last Sunday - Oak Park Mall location, and it is always so good that it seemed appropriate to review my favorite burger place. Fresh, juicy, burger patty 'all the way' with cheese: heaven! Plus the fries set the standard in my view of the way fries should be. Our order took about 10 minutes, while I filled up a cold drink at the Coca Cola machine (which I love). Anyway, if you haven't tried Five Guys, and you love a good burger, you will be impressed. I like burgers. Probably too much. OK, yes too much. I also like food (in general) and I like it a little more (usually) when I don't have to make it. So even though I'm no expert I know what I like. For the most part I "like" Five Guys. Do I love Five Guys? No, no I do not. Five Guys has no WOW for me. They try with the peanuts, which I enjoy (as my only opportunity to visit is when I am dining without my peanut allergy family member). They try with the bag full of fries (order a small it will feed a family) which are very good. They try with the new crazy Coke dispenser with thousands of soda combinations. They try with all the burger toppings (note: both fried & raw onion, the bacon is very crisp, mmmm). You would think if you added all these things up it would be AWESOME. To some it is but to me it is a recipe for a good burger, and nothing more. Five Guys has done it all right but what seems to be missing, for me, is passion. Every Five Guys I visit is in a sense like going to McDonald's, at least as far as how the staff interacts with you - going through the motions. If you've ever been to In-N-Out Burger compare the two. First impression you would think In-N-Out is fast food like McDonalds, Wendy's or BK while Five Guys is premium. The vibe is way different and it isn't just the product. It seems to me there is an attitude or "vibe" that permeates the experience. Love! that this place is in a mall....no more yucky, cranky food court food here. The staff was cheery, friendly, and I watched as they worked together. Even the guy in the front taking orders helped pass out orders. Not much of a line, quickly ran through the drink line. Picked up the peanut basket. They had 2 peanut boxes, filled, with baskets beside them. They had the stacks of potatoes, with a write on board of what farm the potatoes originated. The French Fries: they pile first the order, then a large scoop. The scoop covers the bottom of the bag. And the flavor is tasty and robust. I bring home the left overs, and microwave them later. They are that good. The cheeseburger....I'm not a cheeseburger person, but this one was great. Exactly how I wanted it, and perfect. I get the smaller size. There's no way I could eat the full sized. It's 2 patties thick. I get A1 on it, with mushrooms, onions and green peppers. You know, we don't have one of these in Independence, so I value this place. I wish they'd take cues from Oak Park Mall, and build a 5 Guys near Independence Center, or in it. I love 5 Guys, even if it's out of town. read more

This place cooks a super mean burger. This location is like a lot of other Five Guys locations. You walk in and place your order (type of burger and toppings)... and then you wait for your food to be cooked. There are also plenty of peanuts to snack on while your food is cooking. I was a little frustrated because there was a decent line when I walked in and only one register was open. I think they could have moved everybody through the line quickly if there was another person taking orders. However it all ended well. My mini double bacon cheeseburger with ketchup, mayonnaise, a-1 sauce, mushrooms and tomatoes was gone in a couple of quick gulps. Saturday afternoon: Not too busy. They put ketchup on my soggy burger bun. I hate ketchup. I couldn't do anything because I brought it home to eat. The burger was a slimy, round, wet clump - with ketchup... The fries were undercooked and way over-salted, even for Five Guys. The brown bag was COVERED with grease, not just spotty like normal. One of the employees announced that she had taken Midol. Thanks for the update. I debated between Freddy's and Five Guys for my weekly splurge. Someone really must be lazy over there. I normally love their cajun fries. Another big let down. Say you order a small. Enough to enjoy but not enough to go crazy, right? Especially since these fries are my favorite - skin-on, rough cut, just enough salt and perfect with a dollop of ketchup. So the fries get placed in a brown paper sack with your burger. And then? FRY EXPLOSION! The hard-working Five Guys employee scoops up another huge helping of fries and dumps it into the sack. From my first visit, I've warned people that you get two helpings of fries for one price, so SHARE! And another note? The standard burger at Five Guys comes with two patties, not one. I just don't get it. People go crazy over this fast food chain; I think it's way over hyped. The burgers are dripping with grease. Since they are wrapped in tin foil (I kid you not) there is nothing to absorb all this grease so it runs down your hands. The fries are hard and also very greasy. They give you much more than any one human should consume. Did you eat those free peanuts from the open container? Did you see those kids pick their noses and then reach into that pile of peanuts? BF and I decided on a late night burger/fries. We have been coming to this specific location for a couple of months. Until last night, things have always been above the bar. Seems to me when you pay better than $20.00 for 2 burgers, drinks and fries, the burgers ought to come as advertised....juicy and in this century. You heard me: not the city, not the state, not the Midwest, but the whole freaking country. Since In-N-Out doesn't deign us worthy of taking our money, Five Guys has my vote as THE BEST in the U.S. of A.. Tasty, juice, greasy (but not in the gross way - in the "oh my lord, best hangover cure ever way), massive, cheesy goodness. The burgers are huge. The portion of fries are bigger. Buy a junior burger and share the fries and you will STILL have too much food. Don't listen to me about the junior burger, though - get the regular burger and force yourself to make it all fit down your belly. You will not be unhappy about this decision. read more

I have never had a burger better than 5 Guys & I have had many burgers including In & Out burgers in California. The regular sized bacon & cheese is far superior to a Double Double Animal Style at In & Out. My favorite is a regular with grilled onions and mushrooms, green peppers and A-1 steak sauce. The difference is bacon and choosing a condiment other than 1000 Island dressing. What's not to love about that. The French fries are an order on steroids. I don't try to share a small but a regular size will satisfy me and my wife. They so overfill the FF cup that my wife eats the overfill in the bag and I eat the FF in the cup. I choose to drink diet pop and it is a refreshing change to have a choice other than diet Coke or Pepsi. I am a big fan of diet root beer and they do not disappoint with pop choices and syrup flavors added. As good as it may sound a real coke with raspberry flavor was not a hit with my wife. On the rare occasion when the make a mistake on the burger like adding grilled onions when none are requested they will make a new burger and let you keep the mistake. It has happened to my son and he is thrilled with that policy. I've only eaten at the Oak Park and Village West locations and they are very handicap accessible which is important to me and others in a wheelchair. read more

The burger and fries were good. The guy taking orders and money passes the cup to me by sliding it upside down on the counter. The counter where people have their hands and lay their money. I asked for another cup. He said that one was fine because he cleans the counter several times per day. REALLY? Does he not realize right after he cleans it somebody could walk up that just used the bathroom and didn't wash their hands would lay them right where he is sliding cups? The rim of the cup the next customer will drink out of slid across that counter space? Not to mention all the dirty money that lays on that same space. Do I want to drink out of a cup that has picked up all those germs...NO! This grossed me out. A restaurant with such nasty procedures just lost 2 stars because of it. Whew, finally got around to reviewing 5 Guys! Considering I've been here multiple times, I guess I just haven't gotten around to it. I've been to two locations, Lee's Summit and most recently in OP so this review (though both places are similar) will primarily be for this location. The workers are always hustlin' and it's a pretty fun environment. While you wait, you can nom on some peanuts (I kept my appetite in tact so I waited). Like In-N-Out, the menu is simple; but unlike In-N-Out, there are plenty of toppings to choose from to customize your burger. I typically order the double cheeseburger (though the junior burger is way more than enough!) with grilled onions and jalapeños. The jalapeños are spicy so watch out. Unlike other restaurants, the toppings don't cost extra so go buckwild (I choose not to for the simple fact I like simple burgers). Fries... you get a lot of them. Quantity over quality? Yeah, probably. The cajun fries were very seasoned, they were okay. The general consensus is that they weren't crispy enough, they were too bulky and just over salted/seasoned. The regular size as opposed to large is WAY more than enough, even for two. At this location, they have this crazy touch-screen drink machine. Completely unnecessary, but where else can you get peach flavored Sprite*? I'd definitely go back, but the food is super greasy and unhealthy that my arteries would kill me (ha) if I became a regular. I would definitely choose In-N-Out but judging it as its own thing, 5 Guys is pretty great. *it was not very good, but the option is there if you're willing. read more

PROS: Hands down the best burger I've had. I like that it's not dry tasting. Be careful what you choose to go into your burger as it can get rather tall. Not a bad thing but you end up eating it differently than other burgers. I've seen people take one of the buns off so they can actually bite. A burger is best when you can get bun, meat, and toppings in one bite. You can order online as well as via their Iphone and Android apps. The order takers are usually quick. I usually get my order within 5-10 minutes. I know it seems like the wait is longer than usually for your food but maybe we get extra impatient when we are hungry. At least you know your burger wasn't sitting under some heat lamp. Not sure about other locations but they have touchscreen soda options at this one. Kind of cool but you stare at it the first time til you realize it's touchscreen. CONS: I'm not a big fan of the fries. Of the people I've talked to about Five Guys, I run into more that like the fries than not so I concluded that it's probably more me. read more
