A group of us decided it would be a good idea to have Wieners for Valentine's Day so off to the Wiener kitchen we went! The restaurant itself isn't that big but the guy behind the counter was full of life and energy and the place has a nice vibe. You go up to the counter to order and they have several different sausage options including vegan. Since it was my inaugural visit I went with the Old School famous dog and some Sweet Onion Maui chips. The sausage link was really tasty and it had an assortment of toppings on it along with it being in a fancy hot dog shaped dish. My only complaint is The serving dish. it's A substantial sized entree and difficult to pick up so you have to eat it with a knife and fork and it's difficult to maneuver in the hot dog shaped tray. Someone In our group got the wagyu jerky and shared with us. And as a side note I don't think that was very successful as it didn't really taste like much of anything. And when I think of wagyu, I want a nice fatty piece of meat, not a dried out chunk of shoe leather. read more

I'm very angry about this place because it's been on my list to try for quite some time and I kept kicking the proverbial can down the road saying that I'd get to it eventually. Well, I recently decided to finally put that can in the recycling bin and actually make it over to Wiener Kitchen....and...OH MY GOD IT'S AMAZING!!!! Why have I wasted so many weeks of my life not knowing how delicious the food is here? When the staff realized it was my first visit, they gave me the entire rundown of the food cooked onsite and the fact that you can also purchase their meats to cook yourself at home. It's a pretty small area for eating, but that won't stop me from coming back again and again because I can't believe how much I enjoyed the Chorizo Rojo and the Jalapeno Cheddar Kielbasa! I also had the Chicken Apple which was good, but the other two were the stars of my tastebuds. Finally made it to Wiener Kitchen after seeing all the Facebook and Yelp buzz. It's a small artisan sausage shop with a fun, quirky menu and a butcher counter (bierocks, buns, sausages). Not your $1.50 Sam's dog--prices are higher, but you're paying for novelty and quality. I'd love to try the jalapeño kielbasa next time and bring home some traditional and breakfast bierocks to bake for brunch. (Big Runza vibes for me--went to high school in Nebraska, so I'm always curious when I see bierocks.) Our order: Chili Cheese Dog (Mom) - Wagyu brisket dog with chorizo black bean chili, cheddar, onions, hot sauce. Total fork-and-knife situation. Messy, bun got mushy, and Mom didn't find the chili tasty or fresh. Rating: 1/5 Chorizo Rojo (Mine) - Pork chorizo sausage on a crispy tortilla with cheddar, onion-jalapeño relish, and cilantro aioli. Loved the aioli and tortilla crunch; chorizo itself was fine but not mind-blowing. Rating: 4/5 Perspective check: We're not sausage/brat aficionados--we usually stick to Sam's Club Nathan hot dogs (not Costco!)--so connoisseurs might rate it differently. Love love love this place! My son and I came to Wiener Kitchen for lunch, and really enjoyed our food. He (who is only 6) made a comment: this place knows how to make a delicious sausages! He kept saying yummy so many times. I got their special: Cuban, and my son got kids hot dog. If you love garlic, the garlic pork sausage in Cuban sandwich was phenomenal! It was juicy, rich, and well-seasoned. We got some frozen sausages from their freezer, and the owner explained to us how to cook them at home, which was so helpful! I personally don't like sausage or wieners but my husband does (insert joke here). We never catch this place open but today was our lucky day. Seriously. The people working were so nice. We had no idea what we were doing. We bought some merch, food from the butcher section, and two different sausage/hot dog on a steamed bun. (We bought only one because I assumed I wouldn't like it - then came back for a second) We tried the daily special (Hot Smoky) and KC Frank. Both were delicious. Lovely service. Ordered some raw brats to go and a cooked dog as well. I got there, and was informed that one of my frozen brats that I ordered wasn't available, so the owner had me take another flavor, which was a four pack--even though I ordered two. It is almost perfection, but to get it to perfection you have to add an over easy egg on top, a drizzle of hot sauce-optional. Nice selection of bottled beverages and chips. Yummy gourmet sausages and meats. I have wanted to try this place for a while but it was always closed when I looked. Walking in we were treated by the very friendly owner. He explained that it is a family owned business and all of their items are local. They even have a list on the wall of each place that the food comes from. They offer hot sausages to eat in and you can also purchase numerous items to bring home for later. The menu was a hefty size and they also had daily specials. I tried one of the daily specials, the patty melt sausage and I also tried the chicken apple. They were both so delicious. The chicken apple sausage was filled with strawberry jam basil mayo and roasted pecans. It was sweet and savory. The patty melt was loaded as well and was topped with rye crumbles. The salad was also a standout. With fresh greens and homemade dressing, it was memorable. To round out the meal, I couldn't help but to pick out a homemade espresso brownie. It was ooey gooey and packed with flavor. Overall this was great experience. I plan to come back for some grab and gos or a nice lunch. read more

The sausages (and all food) is always delicious. While we've mostly bought sausages to make at home, their food in house is always delicious and something different is available every time we go. Really cool local offering that sells local brands as well as their own made in house offerings. Good quality, a bit pricey for the amount of food you get but it is well made and tastes like they use high quality ingredients that show through in the fresh taste. They have some unique brat offerings that remind me of one of my favorite brat spots in LA (Wirstkuche). It's really cool that they have a plant-based offering, it's a great way to statisfy a meat craving when you're trying to eat clean. I got a regular hotdog just to try the sausage itself, while my grandmother got their daily special, which apparently changes regularly. The place has a lot of natural light and is decorated with KC local gear. Super fun. Anyway, they looked insane. A wagyu brisket sausage has to be one of the most insane ideas I've heard. And yet it's incredible. They also have a cold cabinet where they hold raw sausages, patties, etc for you to take home and cook. I took some home to cook along with some bacon sausages (Another crazy idea). Cooked those up about 20 minutes ago, and I have to say that these are the most flavorful, juicy, and satisfying sausages I've had in my life. And I make my own. I'll be a regular. Wiener Kitchen has some awesome products in their meat case as well as really great options to eat in. For the most part, they hit it out of the park with both. I've had a few items there that were misses for me, like the smoked apple gouda sausage I got on my most recent visit. I didn't get much other than the gouda in terms of flavor. Others are amazing and home runs, like the chicken shawarma or the jalapeno and cheese. I always get excited to go in here and see all the amazing things in the case and ask questions about the offerings they have. Some of the staff seem a little less than interested in answering the questions or make me hate to ask to have different kinds of sausage wrapped separately from others I'm planning on freezing or eating later. Not everyone is like that, but there are definitely a few. The prices are higher than you might see for fresh brats or sausages at a grocer's meat counter, but the quality certainly seems to make up for the difference in price. read more
