Five Guys is a nice little burger option in Omaha (with two locations), and it's a pretty inexpensive option too. The interior is like a diner, with a red and white checkered design scheme. Their staff is always nice and pretty efficient in getting food out. There are a handful of tables where you can eat if you want to dine in. I will say, you do NEED to eat your burger/food there, because when we have ordered it and taken it home, it is a soggy, cold mess. It loses the heat and freshness very fast, is what I mean. But when we have eaten there (after realizing the take home plan does not work), it's been pretty good. Yes, the burgers are greasy, but that's to be expected when you're getting a burger. The fries are pretty nice too - they are pretty hearty - almost like steak fries. They also have milkshakes in about ten flavors, so check those out as well. As I said, Five Guys is a pretty nice option for a quick burger in Omaha, but definitely dine in to have it stay fresh, and don't visit if you're on a diet, becuase everything there is a grease bomb! read more

Not overly greasy, just a solid, delicious American classic. The fries, hand-cut and sourced from Boise, Idaho (as proudly noted on their board), were cooked to perfection--crispy, salty, and utterly satisfying. The restaurant itself was clean, the staff were friendly, and the vibe was laid-back. No bells and whistles, just a reliably good lunch. I love how fresh everything is; you can taste the difference. Hand cut fries are so simple but they really nail the execution. Hot, crispy, fresh fries in a bag? Yes please! The burgers are substantial and the fresh well-seasoned beef hits the spot. The one thing I did notice was that the workers don't wear beard nets while some of their employees have lush full beards. I took my sons to Five Guys for an early dinner before soccer. The staff was nice and we were the only customers in the restaurant. They no longer have the shelled peanuts sitting out but you can ask for some at the counter. Our food was made fresh and our French fries were overflowing in our bag, so all three of us split one order and it was plenty. We each got a little cheeseburger which was the right size. The bathrooms were definitely showing their wear and could use some repairs to the soap dispenser and other areas. Trash needed to be taken out as well. Good food, but overall atmosphere is needing a little TLC to keep up to par with their increased prices. read more

I have a friend who raved about 5-Guys to me ever since they opened a location here, but as you've already figured out from my star rating, I was less than impressed. You might even go so far as to say I was unimpressed. And if you're feeling really crazy, you could even say that I won't be going back. 5-guys keeps it simple, just your average double-stacked paddies topped with any number of standard ingredients (cheese, bacon, lettuce, tomato, etc) plus several extras (jalapeno and green peppers, and A-1, bbq or hot sauce). These are not the kinds of toppings that make one 'ooh' or 'aah'. They don't even have options for your type of cheese. Everything is thrown together Jimmy John's style in plain view while the staff yells out order numbers. Everything is packaged 'to go'... I shudder to think of the number of paper sacks that are thrown away by diners eating in. 5-guys also offers (random) self-serve bulk peanuts you can scoop from a large open box stacked on other boxes which occupy a good deal of the restaurant floor space. I felt like I was eating in a storage room (that is, when I wasn't being bumped into by people trying to manuever around the boxes and tables). And I've never been anywhere that was more self-serving in terms of boasting. There were giant signs all over... "Voted best bargain", "five guys serves heaven on a bun", "voted favorite place to buy a burger", "voted best burger", "willy wonkas of burgercraft"... What are they trying to convince me of? I'm a What-a-Burger (TX) and In-n-Out burger guy. My client recommended a quick lunch and Five Guys appeared right in front of us. I got the double cheese with the works my client got the same with Jalapenos. He cautioned me about the size of the fries order so we spilt a small and it was more than enough. Bacon cheeseburger sounded good. Only visited here once or twice before. Seems pretty legit. I really enjoy the hand cut fries and they always seem to come from a different part of the United States. They have a large variety of different toppings that come free and others they charge I typically go with the basic and try not to crowd the beef. I added a few items and also added jalapeños. I assumed the jalapeños were from a can but they were actually fresh and had a great kick. This made me a happy camper.. I watched as the grill guy cooked the burgers but didn't see any seasoning go on top? Maybe when they pre-pattie the burgers they season? All and all the burger was tasty and had great taste. With 5 of us eating burgers and two large fries it came out to about 38.00 dollars. Did I forget to mention that they have free peanuts!!!! I'll stop again and try something different next time. I like this place. I mean, really, I like this place. The menu and food is very simple and straight forward. Beef, buns, toppings. Big, greasy burgers served unapologetically wrapped in tin foil and placed in plain brown paper bags with about 2 potatoes worth of fries. The grease seeps through the bag. The burger sits there looking back at you. The amount of starch after eating 1/3 of the fries makes your eyes bulge out. Unapologetic. No drive through, no complicated long menu. Really just burgers and a few other items. But what they do they do right. My only complaint would be that for all the unpretentiousness of the food, the store itself has newspaper articles and signs all over the place telling you how great they are. "Ohh, voted number 1." Dropped by Five Guys just before noon on a Sunday. Glad I got there when I did because by the time we sat down, there was a line out the door. Omaha already has some great places for burgers (dinkers, stellas, louie m's etc...) but there really just isn't a place out west that can come close to matching the powerhouses in the "older" sections of town until now. Five Guys definitely gives it a go. Location: In the same plaza as Hy-Vee, Franks Pizzeria, etc... Plenty of parking, not too hard to get to being just off Dodge Street which is a bonus. Decor: No nonsense tables and chairs. Lot's of two tops than can be slid together to get the right size of table for any group. There is also outdoor seating for those nice days. If you get here in the middle of the lunch rush, be forewarned, you may not get a table. Menu and Food: Don't show up expecting a fancy lettuce wrap or chicken fingers. Your choices: Burger, Cheese burger, bacon cheese burger (OK... so there are two different sizes of burgers you can order.) Other menu items are limited to, hot dogs, two sizes of fresh cut fries and two sizes of drink. Toppings for the burgers are all included in the price and they easily number 15+. The menu may be small, but the flavor is huge. A sign on the wall say's that the burgers are cooked to "well but juicy." I have to say, that made me nervous, but once I took my first bite, everything was as advertised. Juicy, meaty, unadulterated "burger" taste (I know you know what I am talking about..) I opted to load mine up with toppings and it truly made the burger. Ordered a Large fry, intending on splitting it. Mistake there. A regular would have been more than enough for two. In fact, I just ate the extra fries that had fallen out of the cup, and that was enough. We ended up taking almost all of the fries home. They were good though. Double fried, fresh cut, with a touch of seasoning. One thing that was a bit surprising was the lack of ketchup dispenser for the fries. Patrons were taking handfuls of the individual ketchup packets for their fries. I laughed and though to myself, "that will change fast." People on the East Coast may not like ketchup, but here in the Midwest, it is a staple. One nice touch was the malt vinegar that was available for the fries. Yummy. Enough on that. WTF??? That's exactly what I thought when I came here. When I moved back to Omaha from California and heard about this place, I was looking to replace my burger lust for In N Out. Five guys IMO does it right ... stick to what you do best and keep it simple ... for me its two patties with cheese, lettuce, tomato, pickles, mayo and ketchup - the basics. The giant side of fresh cut fries begs to be shared with one or two other people. Two big double cheeseburgers, one side of fries and two sodas were under $20 (and refills are free). Sure all the award winning signage can be a bit much, and it is odd to be surrounded by bags of peanuts but every place needs its shtick. Simple but quality burgers with a decent variety of toppings to choose from. Burgers are juicy but not thick so you get some crispness along the edges, a great combo. You gotta love fresh cut fries and you get a ton even with the small. I wouldn't recommend the Cajun style unless you want a week's supply of salt. The regular burgers are actually doubles. If you want a single then order the "little" hamburger/cheeseburger. Like the fries, they are not little. I'd come again but not often. My cardiovascular couldn't take the regular abuse. read more

Let's say you want a burger with just ketchup and mustard. $5.29. Let's say you want one with mayo, ketchup, mustard, pickles, onions, grilled mushrooms, jalapeños, etc. etc. Still, $5.29. So the folks who don't want everything on their burgers have to pay for those who do. It's like socialism! And I want a free market burger! You pay for what you get ... not what other people MIGHT get. I digress. The burgers are good, though. Juicy and thin and the toppings are fresh and tasty. Fries are ok. They're cooked well, seasoned well, but I just don't care for them as much as I'd like. You do get a TON of them. Salted or with cajun spices. I prefer regular old salt.
