I have a guilty confession.. I cheated on In N Out and I feel so guilty about it. The guilt wouldnt be so bad if the cheating was worth it.. but it wasnt :( Five Guys just didnt do it for me. I have been wanting to try it for so long and I like the concept of having grilled mushrooms and onions on your burger but I only tasted 2 small mushrooms and no onions, so it didnt really add much to the flavor. The quality of beef is good.. nice thick piece of juicy meat but the burger was definitely missing that "animal style" delicious thousand island dressing that makes you want to cherish every morsel of your In N Out burger. The regular fries here were too thick, salty and overly greasy. I also hated the presentation when you get your order. They place your burger at the bottom of a brown bag then put a heap of sizzling hot greasy fries on top. In order to grab your burger (which is at the bottom of the bag), you have to dig into a pile of hot, greasy fries all while noticing all the grease spots staining the brown paper bag. This joint opened up on Sepulveda, south of the airport, sometime last year. I've passed by it any number of times (usually when patronizing the nearby Malibu Fish Grill) and have intended to try a burger here for the past several months. Well, I finally had lunch at 5 Guys Burgers this past weekend and deem it to be a 4 out of 5 star experience. The cheeseburger I ordered was really good. The fries were OK+. They were tasty but I prefer my fried spuds crispier. What I did not care for (admittedly, this is a bit of a niggling point) is the quote/assertion the store prominently displays that 5 Guys burgers are the best $5 burgers that money can buy. Apparently, the quote was made in Michigan in 2009. It does not apply to Southern California in 2014, however. The cheapest burger on the menu is $5.89 (w/ the cheese, mine cost over six and a half bucks). Quality food, prepared relatively quickly and the location was doing good business on a Sunday. They make a very good burger and they have so many condiments to customize with (jalapenos, A-1 steak sauce, grilled onions, mushrooms, etc.) Or if you don't want to think about it you can just get it all they way which is a default combination that is tasty. They wrap it up in tin foil which is nice IMO. in terms of taste, it reminds me of a backyard bbq burger. it tastes home made. wrapping it tin foil consolidates everything together so it holds its consistency even if you overload on ingredients. Their fries are average but they have the option of getting them cajun which is basically them adding their seasoned salt over them (generously added btw) and they give your fries in a bag if you order to go. which in my experience you get more for your buck so i am not opposed. This burger chain used to be a hidden gem type of spot but it has become more mainstream i am noticing with branches showing up more.. they serve free peanuts while you wait, how cool is that?! One thing i dont like... they use the same color scheme as inNout (red and white) which i think is such a pansy move, they shouldve gone for their own color scheme which adds to their personality, but hey it works read more

I like how they wrap up the burgers in aluminum foil and label them with the corresponding number on the receipt. I just like systems that work and this works. I have no problem with the food at Five Guys. Actually I LOVE their food, and Five Guys is probably my favorite burger chain in the area. However, something has recently gone horribly wrong at this location, and I'm hoping that down the road they can turn it around. I have recently had three to-go orders in a row have mistakes, all of which costed me money as I was not given parts of my order that I paid for. I wrote and gave feedback on the FG website, and about 2 weeks later I was contacted by one of the shift managers at the store. She was apologetic and offered me 2-3 free meals as a thank you for my continued business. The employees there honored one of those free meals, but since then they have refused my subsequent attempts to claim, saying that I will need to speak to the shift manager again. I haven't seen her at the store lately so I'm not sure when this issue will clear up. I went in to order food to go again last night, to bring something quick home after a long day running around with the kids. My ticket (and two other people's) somehow got lost and our food was never made, so after waiting 15-20 minutes I was asked to wait another 15-20 minutes while they started over. While waiting, I also overheard that there were two large orders ahead of us that had significant mistakes, and the customer were not happy. Out of everyone in the restaurant, 80% of the customers were either waiting for mistakes to be fixed, or in the process of complaining. I don't know if they've recently hired a few bad apples here or what, or if management is changing over or not doing their job. I do know that this location probably can't afford to be this out of sync for long, with The Habit across the street and with the new In n Out one block away. As it stands now, I am taking a long break from this location, because I'm tired of getting my hopes up and being frustrated over and over again. But thankfully, the day I went wasn't particularly busy. I hope that the hype has died down a bit. I dig the free peanuts and really like their cajun fries. I will usually order them. However, a burger, drink and fries is about $10 here! *sigh* That's a bit much for a burger lunch. This is really nothing to complain about here! The service - awesome. The food - awesome. I love their burgers and their option to have a "little" burger which is not little at all! You get to pick from a bunch of toppings and sauces. The fries come regular or cajun style. Cajun all the way for me!!! They have loads and loads of peanuts for you to snack on while you wait for your meal. And almost as good as their burgers is their soda machine. The more I go to Five Guys, the more I like it. This time I got the bacon cheeseburger with everything but mayo and tomatoes, cajun fries, and a drink. The burger was huge and messy and delicious. I think the bun adds a lot....it's just a plain white bun with sesame seeds, but it was very light and fluffy, like it was out of a freshly-opened package. The burger patties were small and didn't have much flavor, but all of the toppings fixed that right up. The fries were thick and more floppy than crispy (luckily, I like them that way). It's cool that they give you a scoop of fries in your bag on top of the fries you order, but I'm not a fan of the fact that these fries get soggy just walking back to your table. I dumped them out right away and they were still starting to get soggy. Still, the seasoning was good. I agree that they should mention on the menu that their normal burgers are really double burgers and their junior ones are single. The price still sucks, no matter what. Twelve bucks for a burger, fries, and a drink? I could go to the counter and get bigger, better food with more toppings for that price! AND I could get beer if I wanted. The speed also stunk - it took quite a while even though there was no one in front of me. I'm a burger fan. Like, big. I could eat one everyday. So when I saw the Five Guys move into the area, I knew I needed to try it. Burgers come with a lot of toppings and sauce choices. I'm a basic burger lover, but the addition of the grilled mushrooms and onions was yummy. You have a choice of getting any burger with one or two patties. The one thing I didn't get was the giant bucket of peanuts. I assume they were to be snacked upon, but I didn't get the relationship between burger and peanuts. The burger was very good. Fresh, with a homemade quality. Service was a little on the slow side, but with freshly grilled burgers, that's what happens. The best thing about this place was the fries. EXCELLENT. I love In and Out, but the fries there lack a certain greasiness and saltiness that I equate with the french fry experience. Overall, I think In and Out is a better deal, but I wouldn't hesitate to make a trip back. Maybe next time, I'll try the hot dogs. read more

I had a Jr. Cheeseburger with mayo, ketchup, lettuche, bacon, mushrooms, grilled onions and bell peppers and I lobed it. Fries are super fresh and thicker than the ones at In' N' Out. It is a pretty good burger and the Jr one is not small at all, it just means it has one patty so that was good enough for me. The burger wasn't very tasty, it seems as if someone forgot to season the burger when they cooked it. The ONLY thing that stood out was the BACON. (EVERYTHING is better with bacon). yes you can add a whole bunch of fixings to the burger, but if the burger doesn't taste good, then no matter how many fixing you put on it, it's NOT gonna get better.
