BRANZINO (SEA BASS) , WHITE RICE, and FIRE ROASTED STREET CORN
    Kris G.

Today is Friday, which means it's Fish Nite for my family. California Fish Grill has maintained itself as a wonderful go-to place for a Friday evening out for my husband & I, but I absolutely recommend it for any other day/night of the week, as well. This visit was the first that we used the self-ordering kiosks at the entrance and all went well. The kiosks are very user-friendly, allowing for easy ordering, speedy payment, and an efficient way to move people along. I liked that the workers of the restaurant were able to dedicate more time with patrons around the restaurant instead of being stuck behind the cash register, only interacting with you to take your order. I ordered, and enjoyed, the branzino (Sea Bass) with a side of white rice & fire roasted street corn, hold the cilantro (photo attached from halfway through the meal, haha.) The Cajun Style sauce adds a perfect amount of extra flavor to the fish without overpowering the original flavors too much. I always enjoy the white rice which tastes just like... white rice! I am thankful that the white rice from CFG is always as it should be, not starchy/overcooked and never dry/undercooked. The fire-roasted street corn is a favorite of mine from CFG and I am so, so very thankful that they allow the option of opting-out from cilantro. Lucky me, I am one of those weirdos that has an issue with cilantro tasting like soap. Yes, this is a real thing and it's not fun. ("The "cilantro soap gene" refers to a genetic variation, primarily in the OR6A2 gene, that makes the herb taste like soap to some individuals. This variation causes a heightened sensitivity to the aldehyde chemicals naturally present in cilantro, which are also used in soap production.") Shout-out to CFG for helping my meal not taste like soap! This restaurant is located at the eastern edge of Plaza El Segundo, nestled in the southern corner. I have always found this location to be clean, well-kept, and nicely maintained. You can expect it to be busy on Friday nights, especially now with the start of the season of Lent. (Note: Roman Catholics abstain from meat on Friday's, with Fish being allowed.)

Came here during my lunch break and had a great experience. I'm rarely ever super impressed by service but it definitely stands out every time I'm here. They have two kiosks to order and someone standing nearby to hand out cups and in case you have any questions Battered shrimp and cajun fish tacos: 5/5. I liked both a lot. This came with a side of rice, another side of your choice, and a drink. I got fries on the side that were ok. I wish I got them seasoned though instead of choosing plain They also have lots of sauce options. The dynamite sauce is def my favorite by far and I would recommend! Note: you just choose whichever taco combo you want on the kiosk then you'll have a chance to sub one taco out for a diff protein

Great, healthier choice for a meal. Situated in a quiet strip mall tucked away from Sepulveda Blvd. Place your order on a touch screen. Prices are fair and I welcome counter ordering to save on no tip. My $8 clam chowder was heavy but great. The $4 garlic bread is grilled and covered in parmesan cheese but I didn't really taste garlic. My friend's tilapia combo is a large serving, with its two sides. The rice is chewy and the zucchini was good. They have premium sides like Mac and cheese for extra. Comfortable seating and clean bathroom. My only complaint is that the cups for water were small so we made several trips for refills. This is one of several CFG's I've been in. I look forward to going to one closer to me.

Haven't been here in several years. Love the area but parking can get very crowded. Two kiosks to order as well as 1 cashier. Kiosks can slow down if someone hasn't checked out the menu before they begin ordering. Lots of seating inside as well as on the patio. I had a single battered fish taco and a side Ceasar Salad. The salad was nothing to write home about. Chopped romaine, shaved Parmesan and crouton dust. Not even whole croutons. Did I get the last of the croutons? The taco was good. I ordered it with a flour tortilla. Fresh with sliced purple cabbage, diced tomatoes, cotija cheese and chopped cilantro. Delicious. No food pics - too hangry. The server bussing tables was super kind and helpful. We were a large group and he was there to help us all. Ok, bye.

Can I start by saying the gentleman by the name of Fernie was LIFE! Immediately greeted me when I waked in. I mentioned to him that I haven't been to CFG since its original launch, so it's been years. Fernie came over to show me the kiosk options, recommendations even down to the Mango & Salt which was amazing! When my food was ready he made sure I had everything I need from utensils, extra garlic sauce, hot sauce options, and more. Food was amazing, fresh and prepared well. All the staff were friendly, and the restaurant was clean spotless! Looks like I'll be back more frequently. Thank you Fernie!!! Ordered: Grilled Giant Shrimp 1/2 Garlic & 1/2 Cajun Miso Slaw Parm Garlic Sauce Seasoned Tomato & Feta

The Cajun Swai Tacos, Seasoned Tomato and Feta side, Dynamite Shrimp Bowl, Salmon & Swai Combo, and Atlantic Salmon itself tasted good. Nice presentation on colorful plates. Great place for seafood.

Great experience here! Wasn't sure what to get so I ended up getting the bang bang? Dynamite? shrimp bowl not fried and was pleasantly surprised with how good it was. The only thing I would change was the rice- it's good for Mediterranean food but the texture for a bowl should be a different type of rice. Service was fast and friendly- they have computers to order and a cashier. Someone was helping us with questions while we ordered on the computer. This place is located in a busy plaza so parking was a bit difficult to find.

This wasn't our first time eating here, so I'm not sure why I've never left a review before but here we are. This time, we got the crispy fish sandwich, Cajun shrimp taco plate, and a side caeser salad. All of our food was delicious, but they didn't have what I originally wanted which was the Cajun salmon sandwich. Unfortunately, it has been taken off the menu. The restaurant was clean and the manager was friendly as he greeted customers. As always, we will return!

I ordered some fish tacos to go, service was good, they gave me a cup for water while I was waiting! Fish tacos were good!

This place is outstanding! I orders swai white fish and a battered fish taco, all food was cooked to order served piping hot and fresh, and perfectly cooked. Good sized portions, reasonable prices, and wonderful customer service. Jaylin is so attentive, helpful, caring and friendly. All around wonderful! I look forward to coming back!

Came here for the Tuesday fish taco deal, which lured me away from Goop Kitchen. Each taco was $3.50 and nicely portioned. You go in and order at a kiosk and wait for your food. It took some time (it was the lunch rush on a Friday) but the employees were friendly and helpful. Plenty of indoor and outdoor seating. It's kid friendly and I like having an option to eat healthily in a casual setting.

A friend and I were craving some seafood and came upon California Fish Grill, located in the hidden back lot, amidst cluster of shops and restaurants of Plaza El Segundo. We entered to see a cafeteria style dining experience with some ambient lighting, not intimate enough for a privacy yet clean and quiet at the time of our visit for the company to have conversation without overhearing each other from the other booths/seating areas. We were greeted by one of the order takers, who offered to help us navigate through a giant iPad-like ordering system. She was friendly from the moment we walked in to the end, as we walked out. Something about the way she greeted the guests and remained engaged throughout made this experience more enjoyable. She even answered a concern I had over the credit card system (not working property on swiping so I had to tap to pay, which is always a concern for me personally). Regretfully, I am unable to give her a shoutout as I did not obtain her name. We ordered two dishes: one was a seasonal Mediterranean Shrimp Wrap with upgraded Balsamic Brussels Spouts a side order of Sweet Potato Fries, the other was the Ahi Poke Bowl with white rice base. We opted for water as our drinks, which we were given two small cups to help ourselves at the drink dispenser (water is from the nozzle of the Minute Maid Lemonade). Seating was self-selected, as were for grabbing our food when ready (when you complete your order, they ask for your number so to get a text); however, they also had servers who were willing to bring it to your table, and another server who went around all the tables to see if anyone needed extra sauces to finish their meals. The MEDITERRANEAN SHRIMP WRAP had Grilled Shrimp, Mixed Greens, Cabbage Mix, Kalamata Olive Salsa, Pickled Onions and Cream Sauce wrapped in a grilled Spinach Herb Tortilla. The taste was well seasoned, packed with greens and cabbage, all drizzled with cream sauce (which thankfully was captured within the thin paper wrapping!). Oh, the BRUSSELS SPROUTS! They were toasted in balsamic glaze, crunchy exterior but soft interior, topped with herbs and parmesan cheese. They aren't kidding when they say you might even ask for seconds - it was savory and quite tasty! SWEET POTATO FRIES were as hoped, naturally sweet and slightly salty, crisp fried yet soft interior sweet potato. Not greasy or soaked in oil but lightly fried. Ahhh...the AHI POKE BOWL! This was an unexpected surprise in both taste and portion! The Sashimi grade Ahi tuna was nicely enveloped in a spicy poke dressing, tossed with avocado, red onions (ooh, you'll smell that!), with diced tomatoes, topped with cilantro cream drizzle and sesame seeds. It was served over a warm bowl of rice, more closer to room temperature than right out of the rice cooker type of warmth. The rice also soaked in some of the sauces and made the entire experience a beautiful melange of warm and cold, naturally sweet and savory with a tiny spice kick (nothing that lingers nor wasabi-like). The only suggestion I would make is for them to consider adding a crunchy texture, like Crispy onions, Garlic chips or Tempura flakes - just to make it more fun to eat. Overall, the first experience at California Fish Grill was exceptional and both me and my guest would be certain to return again soon!

Birthday Flan: Creamy, custardy, and not too sweet. Honestly, there were no misses here. Everything was tasty, flavorful, and nothing was too dry. The prices were also good and not too overpriced for Mexican food considering the area. The service here was pretty good and efficient. Parking is metered parking. The food here was not mind-blowing and I would still opt for other places though. However, it is a solid pick for a restaurant and Mexican food in Manhattan Beach.

Definitely one of the smallest burritos I have ever had. The flavor was good, actually very good, and the sauce was solid. Unfortunately that was also portioned light, with the container only about half full. No chips with the burritos, and they were $10.50 each, which was higher than the listed online price. Before her food was ready, she received an emergency call and had to leave immediately. That's the reality of being a first responder--when a call comes in, you leave immediately, no time to wait for your meal. Before leaving, she politely asked the cashier to cancel the order and refund her card. Instead of showing understanding or offering assistance, the cashier was dismissive and unhelpful. After completing the call, my daughter contacted the restaurant, apologized for the inconvenience, and again requested a refund. She was initially told that the receipt had been thrown away. Later, the receipt was apparently found, but she was then informed that if she wanted a refund--or even the food she had paid for--she would have to return to the location in person. The problem is that she lives more than an hour away and was only in the area because she was working. I called the following day in an attempt to resolve the issue. Unfortunately, I was met with the same attitude. The employee refused to provide her name, refused to provide a manager's name, and refused to provide any contact information for someone who could address the complaint. To be clear, this is not about the cost of a meal. Had the employee been courteous, professional, or even remotely helpful, we likely would have let the matter go. Emergencies happen. Schedules change. We understand that. What prompted this review was not the lost food or the refund itself--it was the employee's rude attitude, lack of professionalism, and complete unwillingness to help resolve a simple customer service issue. I will also acknowledge that by the end of my phone call, I became frustrated and was not as polite as I should have been. I regret that. However, that frustration came only after repeated attempts to handle the situation respectfully and being met with rudeness and resistance at every turn. A business can recover from a mistake. What it cannot afford is employees who treat customers with contempt and then refuse to provide any way to contact management when a legitimate concern is raised. Management should be aware that this employee's behavior reflects poorly on the entire business. If this is how customers are treated when they encounter an unexpected emergency, then potential customers deserve to know before choosing to spend their money here.
