My mother and I visited this place after eating a donut at Stan's. I know your asking, "Why didn't you go to Stan's AFTER going to Five Guys?" Well, the thing is...we were just supposed to go on the Orange Line and eat leftover Chinese food, but since we had to cross a really busy street, and my mom has never even seen this place before, I was obliged to go and spend my money here. Overall, the experience was positive! The service was prompt and efficient. The food was alright, probably not the "Willy Wonkas of Burgercraft" as the Washington Post would suggest, but it was good. I was surprised to find that they actually cut your hotdog in half and serve it to you on a big bun! What do you want? It's a Five Guys. It's a nice looking burger that feels just a tad too expensive, but it's pretty darn good and you get infinite (seriously, more than you can eat) fries. Places like this tend to have an anonymous sense of corporate ownership, and this location is no exception. No real charm here, you give them money, you get a burger. (This isn't necessarily true for all chains - for example, check out the Trader Joe's across the street.) That's particularly endemic to the South Loop neighborhood. If you like burgers , the best place for you is 5 Guys - great place for a quick and fresh burger. I went there, because my friend advised me this place like a best burger restaurant. The place is clean, the workers are super friendly, always smiling nd trying to talk with you, and the service not so fast, but it's pretty good. Design of restaurant, is simple and enjoyable, I walked in the restaurant nd seen red nd white colors, there is not a lot of places to sit. One of the best thing in Five Guys - is the music that is played there, it really makes me comfortable. Food I got there was fresh and tasty, I can say that, the products which they use for a food is more natural than in for example McDonalds or Burger King. They have Gold Peak tea for those that feel their burger is enough calories on it's own, moreover they have 4 different choices of usual soft drinks. Are the prices high? Maybe a bit for burgers, also free peanuts for you. Just don't order the large fries though, they give you a very generous portion with the regular size- it goes well with the great value this place offers. Very decent and good sized burgers. The fries are also delicious and I'm usually really picky about fries. You can basically get all the toppings you want for free (excluding bacon). I'm knocking off a couple stars because 1) parking in the area sucks, 2) the fries arrived EXTREMELY HOT, like burn the roof of your mouth hot, and 3) prices are a bit expensive for a fast food burger place... like ~$7 per burger. read more

This place is across the street from my work and after a long day (or weekend) I end my shift with a nice juicy little burger. As I've said in other reviews about Five Guys, I enjoy the fact that the menu is simple and that my burger is made to order. The toppings are also always fresh. I have seriously cut down on red meat but I was in the area and wanted to treat myself to a burger and thought Five Guys would do the trick but after stopping here for a bite I think I'll look elsewhere next time. First of all, a burger and fries should be that complicated but this establishment didn't meet expectations. The person at checkout did a nice job but my food was really underwhelming. I always start out with my fries first and these seemed to be coated in grease and way undercooked. I had a late lunch so it wasn't like they were in a huge rush but even if I came at peak lunch hour standards are standards. Next, when it came to my burger it was one of the sloppiest burgers I've ever seen. It's not like I had it delivered and it got disheveled during transportation, no, it went from the kitchen to my tray yet somehow EVERYTHING was spilling out. What made this even worse I tried to speak to the manager about my experience and this guy waves his arm at me and says, "Man, I don't got time for that" and kept walking! Excuse me? The burgers are delicious! They have the option to get a burger or a little burger. There really is no difference to the size but the regular burger costs 2 extra dollars more than the little one. Little expensive for such a tiny burger but damn it's good. You also get free peanuts while you're waiting. The atmosphere is the restaurant is that of a 50s diner. Great burgers, and great fries. The cajun fries are a must. Also, they don't charge for extra toppings, which is definitely a plus in my book. I also love this place because you can see the employees cooking, which means it is probably a lot cleaner than other burger places in the area. read more

I was a Five Guys virgin until yesterday. While it was not the burger orgasm I was expecting, it was damn good. Get lots of napkins; it was one of the juiciest burgers I'd ever had. Fries are great too. Everything was made to order. Stopped in late Friday night about a half hour before closing time. Despite the line of people still streaming in the customer service was excellent. One of the line workers kept calling out "Happy Friday!" Basic burgers and topics, and sometimes that's all you want in a city full of $12+ specialty burgers. I went here for lunch and this place is like a fast food joint for burgers, hotdogs and fries. I try their hotdogs with fries. I must say I didn't like the hotdog and fries I got but I ate it. I wouldn't go back to this place unless a friend wants to go who never try it and by then I would have yet need to try the burgers people rave about. Bread Sandwich anyone? Although it will come w great toppings but.... Here is the good and the bad; Good: You can pick a lot of toppings that are included in your burger. If you want to pay nearly $7 for a large chunk of bun, this is the place. Bad: I order a 1/4 but there is no way that's what I got. What I DID get was a giant bun and the requested toppings. It was really ridiculous. Again for nearly $7, I would go to McDonalds and get not only an actual 1/4 but also fries and a drink (although that's not my preference). Not real sure what some people are expecting when coming to this place? McDonald's fries are better? That's sad to the point of laughable! Chemical laden crap vs cut and cooked fresh. Don't know why it took me forever to eat at Five Guys, but when a buddy of mine took me a few months ago for my first time at this S. Loop location, I was SO impressed. The bacon cheeseburger was AMAZING. I didn't order any fries because I was going to share with the friend I came with. But when the guys dishing out the orders found out it was my first time and I didn't have any fries with my burger, they just gave me a regular order of fries (with the customary extra scoop of fries in the bag) for FREE. Walked-in 10 minutes before they closed, but the staff was full of energy and the service was great. We ordered hamburgers, cheeseburgers and a large fries. All toppings are free, and the burgers are a good size. They were pretty generous with the fries. They cut up the hot dogs from the middle, which looked interesting. I'll be getting that next time I'm there. Service was a bit slow, but they were busy as well, considering they were trying to live up to the "five guys" only behind the counter.
