I grabbed lunch at the Fives Guys near the Altamonte Mall, and it was a good experience. I ordered a hot dog, and my husband a double bacon burger with cheese. If you are unfamiliar with Five Guys, there are no combos and you order everything individually. You can add as many topics as you'd like to your burger or hot dog. It depends on the day and who is working on if you'll have a grease soaked bun immediately when handed to you or not. When they get it right though, omg. So good. This location is one of the biggest offenders when it comes to excessive grease. So it is a true hit and miss. I will say I will only eat-in at this location. Even when I lived in walking distance. Don't order to go. Unless you're ok with a soggy wet greasy bun. Tastes like a dogs slobber face when it turns out that way. But the last 2 times have been good. So the bar is moving to the right direction. Anyway, it's good. The dining area is always dirty, and thus location is always busy...and I only see 4 of the 5 workers the last 2 times. Love going to Five Guys! The location is very clean and tidy. Service is always very pleasant and everything is fresh to make, so it may take a few minutes but there are peanuts available to tie you over. Haven't been to a Five Guys in awhile but I am glad I went. It was really good. The burgers were cooked to perfection and I really like you can get all as many toppings you want at no additional cost. Their shakes are pretty awesome with as many toppings your heart desires at no additional cost. The fries are great. Whoever was cooking on the grill did a great job. So far we've just been getting takeout but the burgers and fries travel well. I will add two small caveats, but they don't effect me much. One, the burgers are often very lightly seasoned, that is they need quite a bit more salt, easy fix. Two, their soda machine pours a pretty nasty drink, I'm not sure if they don't keep their lines clean or it is just the horrifying chemical soup that is Altamonte Springs water? I have been going to this location since it opened and have ordered the same thing for years. I had to walk out today and might never go back. I have ordered my large fries extra crispy for as long as the place has been open. The boy behind the register tells me that we cook our fries one way and can't guarantee they will be crispy. If anyone knows how to cook fries, you leave them in the fryer longer and they get crispy....I pointed to the manger in the black shirt and told him she can make sure they are crispy. He went over and told her what I asked for and got the same response. I told him that he can cancel my order and I dont plan on coming back. This manager should be put back on the frier and learn what customer service is. I would eat there once a week at least and now has cost them that business and everyone else I tell about why I no longer go back. I see the next Steak N Shake in the mist. It was Sunday night and maybe there was a larger crowd there earlier that cause this place to look messy. There were about 5 people working behind the counter/kitchen and the person taking orders was annunciating orders back to people in an obnoxious overly animated way to maybe be entertaining. I know he was just trying to have fun and that's okay...but he came over to clean tables by us (while we were eating) and he was still being very loud and sort of talking to himself about the stuff on the tables to attract attention. Taking the order is one thing, but coming over beside us in a mostly empty restaurant to be loud and attention seeking was really annoying. I see now why most were picking up their orders "to go" and not dining in. My burger was pretty good and messy to eat. My burger came out hot with just the right amount of grease that any good burger should have. I loved the fact that my lettuce and tomato were still ice cold- a sign of a fresh burger. The bun was soft and tasty too. We got an order of the Cajun fries, even though I don't like spicy food. Although they made my mouth tingle they were still really good. Five Guys serves whole cut fries that are crispy on the outside and just right cooked on the inside. I made the comment to our party that you better be in the mood for a burger because that's pretty much all they sell. It is a formula for success though because they do burgers right. They do have a couple of hotdog options and grilled cheese sandwiches. Just don't take anyone to Five Guys that only eats salads unless they are gonna sit and watch you eat! Their fries are probably my favorite out of anywhere. I have been coming to this location for years and the service is always friendly. The parking lot is a disaster and has tiny spaces but that isn't really 5 Guys fault. My burger from here has always been tasty and made fresh. The wait to get your food after you order can be a pain but since they're making it fresh, it's usually worth it. I like that they have direct sizes of burgers and I'm definitely a Little Cheeseburger girl. I get ketchup, mustard, pickles, and onions (raw, not grilled) ALWAYS. But I do like that they have quite a few topping choices and you can choose as many as you like. I also get the Little Fries and they aren't so little because they don't just fill the container with fries, they also add a scoop to your bag. And every order comes in a brown paper bag, even if you are dining in. Basically, you're always getting a ton of fries. The fries are so tasty and always gave the perfect amount of salt.
