I'm not a big fan of 54 Street Bar and Grill. However I must admit I am addicted to their Reuben sandwich. Yes its loud and noisy and sometimes you get mediocre service like any chain restaurant but compare to Applebees 54 Street is a much better choice. read more

Lots of variety in food and drink with plenty of room to spread out if you're bringing guests. Everybody gets what they want and leaves happy. I went here with my husband and a friend of ours on a Friday night. It was busy and I had to wait 20 minutes for a table but it was sooo worth it. My waitress was superb and friendly and my order was correct and out to me quickly. My husband and I both got the Terminator ribeye and they were both done perfectly. I had a well done steak and most places the steak is dry or undercooked. My steak was juicy and tender and done. My husband got medium and his was great as well. Our friend had the spicy chicken sandwich and said it was delicious. The salad was also great. Will definitely go back here again. read more

Place was pretty dirty for a not so busy night but the host was very friendly when we walked in. Our waitress seemed distracted and I had to ask for several things that should be automatic (kids menu, bread that comes with the meal, straws). My husbands food was really good and so was my son's, although it is hard to mess up chicken strips! My salad was lackluster and the plate was really dirty on the underside. This is our first visit to this location. We will give another chance but I was not at all impressed with the service, ambience or the food. read more

This place is on my do not list from now on. Understaffed, empty booths. I was so mad. They sat us and the seat of the booth had green beans or something gross all over it. We ordered online and when my daughter went to pick up the order, she was given about 1/3 of our items. She went in (since she was parked in the carry-out pick up lane), had the receipt as proof & was told, they would "look for the rest" of the order. Meanwhile, you guessed it, the food they had brought out got cold. February, so really any of the food was destined to get cold, but the original food got ridiculously cold while they finished the complete order. Overall, Quite a disappointment. My daughter ordered a 1/2 order of chicken fried chicken meal and it was laughably small. $9.99 for a piece of chicken that was the size of one small chicken thigh. The sides were good though (after nuking). We also had a reuben sandwich with steak soup. The reuben needed more taste but the soup was great. Do Not Order Carryout from 54th Street in Independence. My friends, family, and I often go to 54th Street at the Independence and Lee's Summit locations. I've never had bad service, the food is always good, and the atmosphere is nice. We have girls nights at this place often. I get a giggle when it's Homecoming/Courtwarming/Prom season and see girls in their formals coming here yet you can come in sweat pants!! I recommend getting their combo option for the salad and soup if you're a light eater. Their chicken fingers are very good too. The menu has several options sure to please anyone. The deserts are great too. They have a full bar and be warned, their drinks are strong! :) I recommend sitting out on their covered patio at the Lee's Summit location on a summer night! read more

Im amending the review of his place. Make sure u double check ur ticket. We were charged an extra 15 dollars for our ticket, and then were told that the amount was already on our account and WOULD be on there as a hold. Manager would not accomodate us when it was THEIR mistake, by a server who needs to be bussing tables, due to his swagger and arrogant attitude toward the customers. The manager's remedy was to hand us a measly 12.99 gift certificate, which was less than HALF of our ticket! Now, why would I want to go back and eat there again, if I was treated less than decent on our VERY FIRST TRIP! I'm upset at the manager, because he DID NOT do his job, and try to make it right, by paying for our meal, and admonishing the server. I had to bring it up about paying for our meal, he NEVER offered. Such horrible customer service will more than likely get you closed down. I will never recommend this place to anyone and will never take friends there. Stay away! read more

My husband, sister and I ate here on a Friday night. it was inanely noisy and we waited 15 min for a table (after being told it would be 5). I requested a gluten-free menu from the hostess when we were being seated. She and the other three hostesses didn't know where "it" was (apparently they only have one), so they said so-and-so would bring it to me. Our waitress came and took drink orders a few min later, so we requested the menu again. She brought our drinks and said the manager was printing a menu and would bring it over. We requested it from two other people, and finally, 15-20 min after sitting down, we got a 7-page list of all the menu items with no detail as to what the items were, and a checklist to the right with a "Y" or "N" in each column (dairy, nuts, wheat, gluten, etc.). Just for background info, gluten is a protein found in wheat, barley, rye, malt, and contaminated oats. Nearly every single item listed that had a "Y" under "wheat," had an "N" "gluten." That was our second clue that this was going to be the dining experience from hell. Two waitresses came to our table, and when we pointed out the wheat v gluten discrepancy on the menu, one waitress told the other to have the manager come to our table. We had to request his presence twice more before he finally came over, and he obviously has had zero training when it comes to a GF diet. He tried to tell me guar gum has gluten (it doesn't), as does maltodextrin (it doesn't). He said the tortilla chips were rolled in wheat (they are not). He took a photo of the ingredients of the chips on his phone and brought it to me to read. The bag did say the chips were made in a facility that processes wheat, but I took my chances and ordered nachos w/ chicken and cheese (nothing else). I do not have Celiac Disease, but am gluten intolerant. I can normally eat products with that warning. We don't know whether it was the chicken, the chips, or some mystery ingredient I am not aware I ingested, but I was horribly sick later. My husband ordered brisket barbecue sandwich. The brisket was chopped, not shredded (maybe this is a KC thing?). It was very messy, typical chain family restaurant (think Ruby Tuesday) quality, and rather pedestrian. Definitely nothing special. Sauce was very "blah" and tasted mass produced. I will say our waitress was very patient and sweet and tried her best, but the entire staff, particularly the manager, needs a lot of dietary education. We would never go back. read more

This place is always busy, usually a 30 minute wait so we typically don't want to wait and go somewhere else. Tonight was only 15 minutes so we gave it a try. We had two different burgers, the catfish, and chicken Caesar salad. All of the food tasted pretty bland. Also had the four play appetizer and chips and salsa. Pace salsa had more flavor than what they were servin for salsa. The gringo dip that came with the four play was average at best. Many better places to eat around this area than here. This was a big bummer! Second time in a row that we've had a bad experience and both times we brought guests with us...so needless to say we will not be back. We ordered two different kinds of burgers with two different kinds of cheese (6 people table so other food was ordered) and the people that brought it out delivered the wrong burger to the wrong person but since they had never eaten there didn't know it was wrong and it had the cheese on it the other one was supposed to have and it was a single not a double...so all these reasons the person didn't know she was getting the wrong burger. About 5 minutes later the other burger comes out and then we realize the mistake and the waitress had no idea what to do...she took it to the back...the manager came out and took the wrong burger and promised to get both corrected. He came out about 5 minutes later with the one that has already come out but no one had eaten, so it was cold. Then about another ten minutes later the other burger came out. It was fresh but not the double patty we ordered and with the wrong cheese. The waitress never refilled our drinks and the manager didn't come over and apologize or check on the order after it was all out. They did remove the burger from one ticket but not the other and the funny jab on the bill after all of this was a charge for ranch. We are very understanding when mistakes happen and don't expect or demand free things. We want to warn others and hope the restaurant learns...taking the burger back, letting it sit and then bringing it back out was so disgusting!!! Plus the other parts of our experience were not ok. My husband brings customers here with a large tab but will no longer be trusting this restaurant at any location. read more

What has happened to 54th Street? Our last few experiences there have not been good! About a month ago my bf and another couple went there for dinner. 3 of the 4 of us ordered steaks med. Our food gets there and our steaks were rare and baked potatoes were cold. So... we sent them back. Now, we usually dont complain but we get our steaks back and they are well done. Wth? So we ask to speak the the manager. He comes to the table....btw he looks all of 21 yrs old. We state our complaints and he says "well, not sure what I can do." Seriously?!! End result...we all got free meal coupons for our next visit. O.K...cool. So...last night we decide...lets try 54th and use our coupons. Now, we have a table of 7. Three order salads..they all come at different times...not all together. Main courses come all at the same time for the most part. My bf ordered steak and shrimp ..no shrimp and once again...baked potato is cold! I ordered chicken fingers with honey mustard...had to ask for that. Our friend ordered ribs with 3 sides..only got 1 so had to ask for that! WTH? We are complainers ....but 54th Street...you need to get your shit together! We won't be returning. We dropped in for a pregame snack. Our waitress Amber was the bomb.com she was cheerful and helpful in describing several items on the menu, it happened to be happy hour, which meant yummy food cost less. We got the buffalo wings which were meaty and juicy, the spinach artichoke dip w/ pico which was delish, and a summer spring salad which was grilled chicken, spring mix, red onions , Carmelized pecans and zingy balsamic vinaigrette. It's was wonderful, the home crafted strawberry lemonade was divine and the refills kept on coming!Amber was sweet and gracious . The staff was friendly. However, the service was EXTREMELY SLOW. The others in my party waited about 45 minutes for their food; I waited 1 1/2 hours for a salad, which never made it to my table. A waiter finally came to me and said an employee dropped my salad, and eventually gave me a gift certificate (for $11.99) as compensation...a bit insulting seeing that I waited 1 1/2 hours for a salad. I was in town for a week with my husband. During that time we ate here 4 times. The food is fantastic, there is something for everyone, the service was fast and friendly and the prices very reasonable. Surrounding Steak Houses charge up to $70 ( yes, you read that correctly) for steaks. 54th Street has varying sizes of sirloin (I prefer NY strip) for $20 or less. My husband, nor I, were disappointed. The steak was flavorful, tender and cooked to perfection. Do you self a favor and give this place a try. You won't regret it. read more

We ended up making our first trip to 54th street grill today and I'm super glad we did. The food was awesome and the menu went on forever with a vast variety of choices for everyone. The sandwich was gigantic and extremely tasty. Super glad we split an entree and it was so awesome that the waitress mentioned we could do that. Each half came out on it's own plate along with sides. What an amazing experience. The mini cheesecake desert was fantastic and the only thing better than the food was the service. The service was quick and the food was good, it was the two hairs found in seperate items that earned it only three stars. There was a long, light colored hair in the filling of the Shrooms and another one in the Spinach and Artichoke pasta. I lost my appetite very quickly. We called and they apologized and offered to replace the food (we got carry-out) but that wasn't what we wanted. One of my favorite restaurants. Never had a meal less than amazing. Great alcohol selection and amazing happy hour specials. Went in on Friday and the 2 young girls working as hostess' were anything but friendly. Never smiled asked how we were, when asked how long of a wait for a table,we were told 25-30 min. After an hour and a half 1 girl walk ice past is and headed down the main aisle, the got rude bc we didn't follow her. She never once told us to do so! If you are the first impression for everybody that comes through those doors, be a good one!!!!! read more

Visited this location after work on Tuesday the 30th around 9pm to have a drink with some coworkers after work. Sat at the bar waiting on my friends to get there and was paid no attention by the bartender, but another bartender? (bar back or server maybe) named Laremy, was so nice and complimented my dreadlocks, asked for my drink order and if I needed a menu. He grabbed my drink quick with the bartender still paying me no mind. My friends joined and night went on. I asked the lady bartender if I could go to the patio to smoke and she said Laremy was still out there closing it so I could, went out and was smoking while lovely Laremy conversed with me about my hair as he was doing the same to his. THEN, this blonde manager came out giving me a horrible dirty look said to Laremy "I need the lights out and these doors closed- this is one less thing I'll have to do for the night!" Being a server myself I know how it is but would never say this with a customer in earshot. Then she continued to say " please get her inside" he said " I'm just conversing with a customer" she scoffed and said " you mean your friend? Ha I need doors closed and lights out". Sent chills up my spine when I had never met him before in my life and she literally profiled me because of my hair, treating me like I didn't belong there. I don't care if you thought I was his friend I AM STILL YOUR CUSTOMER. This blonde manager made me feel so unwelcome and out of place when I was paying to eat and drink there. I am appalled at this kind of behavior from a manager, and would probably have frequented visiting here if it wasn't for this horrible manager who continued giving me dirty looks throughout the course of my visit. Awful experience. Awful manager. But Laremy was the highlight of this visit and was calm and kind throughout thankyou for your wonderful service Laremy. Two of my family members love 54th Street so 8 adults and 2 children met up there this last Saturday at 1 to celebrate their birthdays. We knew we would have to wait and wait we did... for 43 min.. No problems until they took us to our table(s)... They were back to back booths. There was a table just across the aisle also set for 10. I asked if we could have the table instead of the booths since we were celebrating 2 birthdays and had asked to be seated together. The waitress said she would ask the manager. The manager, Mark, came over and said that since we said "first available" we could only have the booths. I explained that we had never said we would take back to back booths. I also explained that we had my 80 year old dad with us and it was hard for him to scoot into a booth. He still said there was nothing he could do. I asked, if we were on the list first, had been waiting longer, and were paged first, why couldn't we have the table instead of the other party, if it truly was first available? He said that his hostess remembered talking to me and that I did say I would take the booths... Funny thing is that my son put our name in... I didn't arrive until later. I told him his hostess was not telling the truth and asked to speak to the GM, Jaris Schulte. While awkwardly waiting for Mr. Schulte to talk to me, the other party was seated at the table right in front of us. My family was so embarrassed. I asked them to wait outside. I talked to Mr. Schulte and he said he asked if we wanted to wait for another table. I asked about how long he thought it might be and he said that it would be probably another 30 - 40 min. I told him that I was not happy and that as a loyal customer I was blown away by his and his manger's lack of assistance. I know that our $200 or so bill was probably nothing to them on a busy Saturday, but I was sure disappointed because I WAS ONE OF THE FAMILY MEMBERS saying how great 54th Street ALWAYS was! read more
