My husband and I went here on a Sunday morning about 10:30. Were told that a table would be about 20 minutes. We waited 30, went in and asked and were immediately seated. A busboy came and took our drink order soon after. About 10 minutes later the waitress came to take our order. (40 minutes in). I got scrambled eggs and bacon, my husband got an egg sandwich- nothing fancy. We ordered about 11:15. After waiting 30 minutes for our food I asked the waitress how much longer our food would be and she told us it was "on the grill". About 20 minutes later we decided to leave, I told the waitress we were leaving and paid for our drinks. She yelled at me and told me it was coming and as we tried to leave she grabbed a plate with a terrible looking pancake and shoved it at me. I've never had to wait 45 minutes for food at a diner. And rather than being apologetic that the kitchen was slow, the waitress snapped at me! The restaurant was busy, and we were not rude because I know the waitress has no control over how fast/ slow the kitchen is. But this experience was terrible. read more

A realistic local review. I would have a hard time finding anything good to say about my experience. The breakfast was overcooked, the hash browns were super greasy and overcooked , the waitress said maybe 5 words to us the whole time. The bathroom was disgusting. Come for the corn cakes - they are SO GOOD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Eggs, anybody can do...hashbrowns were good if you order them with the onions/peppers ($4 instead of $3), bacon was fine. Good stuff! My wife and I had breakfast here at noon, and it was very good. I had The Biggie Omelet, and my wife had The Big Chile Omelet. Great chile! I asked for my hash browns to be burned, and burned again, and they were done perfectly. It's amazing how hard it seems to be to get hash browns actually cooked. I've had to send them back as much as 4 times some places, so it was great to have it done right the first time. It's a basic diner atmosphere; a small place, but the service was great and the food was great and we are glad we went. Plan to be back next trip to Williamsburg. Don't plan on taking a large party. They had one table that looked like it might seat 8 or so, and the rest of the seating was booths, which would comfortably hold 4 adults. Uh, comfortably only if you don't have a big belly. Cozy and casual are the words that come to mind when you walk into 5 Forks Cafe. It's reminiscent of the diners of old with its counter seating, high-backed booths and kitschy decor. I ordered the Gyro and was very pleasantly surprised by the abundance of meat in it and the delicious Tzarziki sauce that covered it all. We are local to the Richmond area and wanted to get a late breakfast before heading over to Jamestown Beach. Don't be fooled by the modest look of the place. It is awesome!! I got the grilled hash and 2 scrambled with grits on the side. My wife got a ham omelet and the boys had chocolate pancakes bigger than the serving plates. All was great! The service at five forks cafe is always quick and the servers are friendly. The food quality is consistent. The sweet potato fries is so good that I almost wanted them to make it an entree instead of a side dish. The portion of food is huge. My only complaint is that I once saw a fly on my table. I was slightly disappointed, although I've only been once. My significant other and I have a tradition of eating brunch together on sundays, and then we moved to the area, we were on the lookout for a new brunch spot. We were recommended this restaurant by several people specifically for their breakfast food, so we tried it out. I ordered French toast, while he ordered an omelet, our go-to meals. My French toast was average, however it was served alone. I had to order sides separately, causing me to spend more than usual on a French toast breakfast. My boyfriends omelet was disappointing. Neither of us finished our meals and we stopped on the way home to grab fast food. The waitress seemed annoyed and I found myself embarrassed in correcting her when she poured iced tea in my soda cup. My boyfriend also got charged for something he ordered but never received. When we brought this to the waitresses attention, she was so aggravated, saying they were very busy. I'm not sure if that was an apology but we just told her not to worry about it and paid for it anyway so that we could leave. This was several months ago, and I would like to give this another try due to the copious recommendations, but it's hard to when there's so many other breakfast places around here and my first experience was negative. read more
