I love this camp! It's got everything except RV hookups. Fire pits, tables, poles for high ties, a nice bathroom, lovely showers, and MILES of trail! I've added photos of the trails, where you can even get to the beach! I always look forward to coming to this camp, every year. It may be a little pricey, but you get a lot of amenities.

My go to place at least once per year! My friends and I have made so many wonderful memories here. Highly rwcommend!

Great place to camp with the horses. Well worth the price. Hosts are super friendly. Trails are amazing. Bathrooms are great. Hot showers after a long day of riding, soooo relaxing! High line posts thought the camp or plenty of room for portable corrals. Unfortunately no dogs allowed not even leashed in campgrounds so make sure to leave your little furries at home.

    Beautiful

Wonderful horse camp. Nice and low key. The only complaint i have is just an observation, the forest is a tinderbox waiting to explode. It has so much cut down dead fall and cut up dead underbrush that I fear we could loss it all.

He has a short braided thing of hair hanging off the back of his head, like he's a Padawan apprentice or something. "What, this?" he laughs. "Party in the back?" In a thicket by the creek, they sip coffee. Song of the thrush ascends. Seems to spiral to heaven upward like a shell. They gaze through a seven foot tall cow parsnip at the sky. The umbels are bobbing galaxies in a vast universe. Ever expanding. Wielding a magic wand, she identifies the plant: "Heracleum maximum!" It has gigantic leaves. Each one is connected to a thick, hollow, densely-haired stem. She steers the huge leaves on their thick stems in her slender arms. Swipes away the poison oak. "Found a path to the creek," she says cheerily. Clear water riffles and splits around a shoal. It's sandy with willows and cattails. There is a great blue heron in the reeds. The heron saunters forward deceptively, like a starlet at the Croisette, then recoils its long neck and strikes. "Bill stab!" he exclaims. He purses his mouth, throws his arm up and makes a fist. Taking a beat, she observes the scene, and says wryly "Sick, huge fan. What a bird." The impaled fish writhes on the heron's spear in the sun, scales glinting. It has met its immutable fate. They sit on a bank dotted with Cyperaceae. Lady beetles fly about. They turn and face each other. "F#$%#g sh*# show that was..." he moans. "What do you mean? We shucked a thousand shells. You have to respect your aunt's stamina, it's a Vibe!" she says, grinning. The moment is fleeting. The song and the chirping and the thrum of insects in the morning heat. They kill the coffee. It's time to pack up their tent and go. "Check out time!" she says. "Pack it up!"

Camped at 2ab and it was ok, it was not very private and near the bathroom/water spigot so I felt like it was more people interaction than I cared for but that was what was available! The beach was a great place to relax after my hiking days and I loved it. The park backs up to some private residences along the bay road. So it was not exactly rustic and peaceful, but it was still a nice place to hang out for a few days. As long as you can tune out the foghorn, you'll be okay. If that kind of thing bothers you (it would have driven me crazy in my younger years), then you best be as far from the bay as you can get. The foghorn sounds every 10 seconds, fog or no fog, 24/7. Most of the campsites have plenty of room, but some are better and more spacious than others. You can hike the dune trail from the campground (no dogs allowed, but watch for horses). We drove to the parking lot at the beach area, and walked down to the beach. It seemed nice, but it was windy and a bit rainy, so I didn't spend much time checking it out. Besides, I'm more interested in dog-friendly beaches. I'm sure that the campground has a totally different feel during the summer months, but in March, there was not much activity. We were one of the few campers in our campground loop, so very low key. Bathrooms and showers were clean. Tokens are needed for the shower. The token machine accepts dollar bills. Special Notes: No dogs allowed on the trails or on the beach. Motorhomes are limited to 31 feet. There is an RV water filling and dump station. As for the dune trails, I thought I could hike to the beach from the campground. But I hiked the trail to the road, crossed the road, and then the trail branched off onto several different pathways, all which ended abruptly. So I don't recommend it, at least not in March. May be a bit different in summer. Overall, this state park is a decent home base for exploring Bodega Bay and the Sonoma Coast.

Really, it's a short drive from the bay, or even from the greater Sacramento area so sure, bring it all! Leave the oppressive heat and wear pants for a change. Bring shoes and maybe take a hike...leave the extra car at home. Maybe bring some food items with you. The stores are expensive and have great seafood but they aren't meant to supply for longer stays.

Staff was friendly with us and they even had a post office and little shop and laundromat. We didn't use any of these services as we were only staying the night. I do think it was nice they had it though. They also had a little horseshoes area, a small playground, and a couple poles you could sling a volleyball net up onto. They had a couple fixed bathrooms that were ok in terms of cleanliness. There were porta potties closer to our campsite though and the water was not pumping to those very easily. The actually sites themselves are super close to each other but come with a little fire pit and a picnic table. I had a great time being with my friends but overall the campgrounds themselves were ok. Nothing special, nothing really bad. I wouldn't necessarily recommend it or tell anyone to avoid it. There are better campsites out there and there are worse ones too. It was nice to escape the city with some friends though.
