Towards the end of my lady's and I eight day coastal trip on our way back down we had a blast doing the two hour private horseback ride, Our guide Romero was a really cool guy Good laughs, conversation, and an overall great experience. Saw a lot of cool wildlife on the ride including a bobcat or a mountain lion cub everything was A OK but the horses could definitely tell there was a predator in the area so they were a little spooked. Had such a fun time I will definitely be coming back for the six hour ride!!! read more

I booked a private beach ride (6hrs) for my friend's birthday. I can say that the experience alone was worth the price. Our guide Ramiro was great, he tested out our skills in the beginning before seeing we had experience riding and letting us take the leads during the trail. We also got to see dolphins! He told us in the 6years he's done this, this was the 2nd time he's gotten to see them. We ended up skipping the waterfall (couldnt get to it due to the tide anyways) and instead got to follow the dolphins! Highly recommend doing the wildcat trail with Ramiro! It is a 14mi ride, so be prepared to be in the saddle for a while. Experience is a plus, but Ramiro made sure everyone stayed safe and would always give pointers. read more

My wife brought me here as a surprise bday gift!! This was my 1st time riding a horse. I was sooo scared...lol. However, once I was helped on my horse "Trigger", I felt a little better. The more I rode, the more comfortable I got. The horse I had was exactly like me.. stubborn. So we were a perfect match. He made me . I enjoyed my time. Our group lead was very knowledgeable and friendly. I loved that he showed no fear when he rode the horse sideways and backwards lol. He made us gallop a little. That was very ummmm... bumpy lol. When I got off of my house, he and I shared a moment with a hug. He laid his head on my shoulder. I liked that. I would go back again. It seems like they treat their horses really good. Had a great time with my daughter and our guide, Ramiro, on a one hour ride at Five Brooks in Olema. We both have ridden in the past and wanted a peaceful ride on reliable horses to help us over some issues and get us back to riding. Ramiro was attentive to our needs and cared about the horses too. We rode Lexie (awesome horse) and Scout, and more than achieved our goals for the day. Scout was not the prettiest but what a remarkably responsive mount, especially for a commercial string horse. I had to urge him forward at times, and each time he responded right away. Scout was well balanced and super easy to control at all times, answering to the lightest cues. We had no cause to be nervous and had a fun time with the hour passing quickly. All of the horses appeared well fed and cared for, the place was clean, and no way would Ramiro have taken out a horse that was limping or in any distress. We can't wait to go back! My friend Leslie and I enjoyed a one hour trail ride with Romero yesterday. We loved every step! Romero was very informative on many topics. I'm a beginner, so he instructed me on correct hand positions and signals for my horse, "Dixie". Leslie is a more experienced rider and she handled her horse "Cookie" beautifully. Romero pointed out everything to view along the trail: a sweet cormorant in a pond, an osprey nest way up high in a tree and a mother quail with her tiny babies who were scurrying around in the underbrush. The horses we had here are not as well trained as other places. Malcom and Scout are very slow and stubborn. They do not respond to riders' signals and are very difficult to control. The guide we had was a nice boy, he let us trot a few times. The horses are so slow as a result we only walked 3miles in 2 hours of horse riding! Most people could hike faster than this. The trail was challenging in a nice way. The view from the trail is nice. I just wish we had better horses who could go further. read more

Over the years I have been several time for rides. Each time has been exceptional. The owner is very friendly and works very hard to keep the place running. I have owned a horse and ridden for many years and understand what to expect. Some of the guides may seem a little rough however it is only for safety precautions. When your out ridding you have to listen and not be afraid. The horse will pretty much follow in line. Every time I've been I have see something new, it is beautiful. I highly recommend. read more

Luckily we got there right on time. Heads up!! Bad to no phone signal within a 5-10 mile radius of ranch. Parked & Paid and saddled up within 5-10 minutes for a 2 person private 1hr trail. Dixie and Malcom were our horses, Dixie was kept up with the leader more, Malcom is very chill. Trail was wayyy better than expected. Lots of trees plants and mushrooms on our trip. Our guide Jose was professional courteous and attentive to everyone's needs. He answered all our questions and we shared lots of great conversations. I love this place. My oldest daughter and I have taken many trail rides. I brought my youngest out here to see the horses and we did a lil pony ride around the pond. I forget the name of the guy helping us and I don't want to get his name wrong. But he was so nice and gentle with my 3 yr old and nice. He took these photos of us. Such a nice place to be. Well, we booked the Fir Top Trail hoping to see the all the things the trail was about (osprey nest, beautiful views, inverness ridge etc etc), but we were taken to another trail which was pretty boring... its just a wide trail and in which ranger vans can go, so not really a fun trail. Reason given was that there were many trees that has fallen and blocking the fir top trail and thats the reason for the switch. We paid to get the experience of what fir top trail talked about, but never got any. They should have told us about that before we even started. I had to ask the guide in the middle of the ride and thats how I found out. The horses were slow and did not even match up to a person walking on the trail... may be were were given those horses because we said we were beginners ¯\_(ツ)_/¯, not really sure. The guide was cool though and he made us trot couple times, and conversed all the way up and down. Is the money worth for the trail we went? Not really. So, before you go, make sure they are taking you on a trail you booked for. read more

Actually we got there a bit late so we didn't even get that lol, but that's on us. The staff were nice and helpful, the guide was good and nice to talk to. The trail was cool, but I think the real Marin views are more on the longer trails. So I should really come back again with a longer trail and actually on time. read more

Wonderful horsecamp. Plenty of water faucets, bins for manure, fire rings, picnic tables, co-ed showers, men & women's flush toilets & sinks (electricity for blow dryers). Staff is very accommodating. Will bring/move picnic table or fire pit. Wood for sale on site. The trails are some of the BEST I've ever ridden. You have the valley floor going into town or down south, lots of forest single track trails with great footing and for the well conditioned horse (very important) and rider, a ride to the beach is spectacular. The only negative has been witnessed when unfit horses have been ridden to the beach and they tie-up when they return to camp. Also, some bees, poison oak and stinging nettles can be found on some of the trails. read more

It's hard to put into words what this ranch has given me. I grew up riding but hadn't been back in the saddle for probably 10+ years. My first ride was with Fiona who was so warm and welcoming. She made sure my friend and I were safe and comfortable the whole time. She gave gentle guidance, and was very knowledgeable about the area's history, flora and fauna, horses and horsemanship. I've been out riding with her a number of times now and she has become a real friend. That first experience reawakened a joy that had been missing from my life for so long. I'm so grateful to her for everything. T has also been my guide and she is so full of personali-T! Her horsemanship skills are so immense and it's clear she really loves what she does there. Five Brooks Ranch is a local treasure! We started visiting for highly recommended pony rides when our child was younger. Now it's exciting to see her confidence riding solo. The horses here are well taken care of and happy, and the manager and guides respect their different personalities. We visited this weekend with a group of 2 adults and 4 kids (3 being first-time riders) and had a very positive experience. It was apparent that Michelle was knowledgeable in her experience with horseback riding. She had a deep love for the horses and enthusiastically expressed the basic instructions on how to ride the horse confidently. What a wonderful day we (family of 5) spent at the Five Brooks Ranch! Our guide, Ramiro, was fabulous. Hours before we got there, he went out and cleared a few trails (fallen branches due to the several days of historically bad wind and rain storms this Jan 2023 in Northern Cali). Next he, Andrew and Lisa selected the right horses for our 10 year old (first time ride) and for our adult children, my wife and me. We explored several trails and experienced a few speeds (loved the trotting). Afterward, Ramiro spent some time with my wife and son (26) giving them riding tips. Beautiful location, caring & experienced staff... we are going to return for more this year. Also, a shout out to Andrew for communicating with me beforehand and keeping me up to date with conditions during and after the storm so that we knew the status of our reservation. I had an excellent time here at 5 Brooks. I decided to take my partner out for our first horse back ride. The ranch hooked us up with two horses that were perfect for beginners like us. Caleb our tour guide is a breath of fresh air. He catered to our needs as beginners and literally helped us ride our way to learn how to canter on horses and trot. Not only that we got some nice photos and videos in. We decided to book super early at 9am and this was a great decision because we were able to get a private session for 2 hours.
