The horses were super well cared for and had great temperaments--you can tell they're handled with care (huge green flag for me as a horse owner). The horses we had here are not as well trained as other places. Malcom and Scout are very slow and stubborn. They do not respond to riders' signals and are very difficult to control. The guide we had was a nice boy, he let us trot a few times. The horses are so slow as a result we only walked 3miles in 2 hours of horse riding! Most people could hike faster than this. The trail was challenging in a nice way. The view from the trail is nice. I just wish we had better horses who could go further. read more

My wife brought me here as a surprise bday gift!! This was my 1st time riding a horse. I was sooo scared...lol. However, once I was helped on my horse "Trigger", I felt a little better. The more I rode, the more comfortable I got. The horse I had was exactly like me.. stubborn. So we were a perfect match. He made me . I enjoyed my time. Our group lead was very knowledgeable and friendly. I loved that he showed no fear when he rode the horse sideways and backwards lol. He made us gallop a little. That was very ummmm... bumpy lol. Luckily we got there right on time. Heads up!! Bad to no phone signal within a 5-10 mile radius of ranch. Parked & Paid and saddled up within 5-10 minutes for a 2 person private 1hr trail. Dixie and Malcom were our horses, Dixie was kept up with the leader more, Malcom is very chill. Trail was wayyy better than expected. Lots of trees plants and mushrooms on our trip. Our guide Jose was professional courteous and attentive to everyone's needs. He answered all our questions and we shared lots of great conversations. I love this place. My oldest daughter and I have taken many trail rides. I brought my youngest out here to see the horses and we did a lil pony ride around the pond. I forget the name of the guy helping us and I don't want to get his name wrong. But he was so nice and gentle with my 3 yr old and nice. He took these photos of us. Such a nice place to be. Well, we booked the Fir Top Trail hoping to see the all the things the trail was about (osprey nest, beautiful views, inverness ridge etc etc), but we were taken to another trail which was pretty boring... its just a wide trail and in which ranger vans can go, so not really a fun trail. Reason given was that there were many trees that has fallen and blocking the fir top trail and thats the reason for the switch. We paid to get the experience of what fir top trail talked about, but never got any. They should have told us about that before we even started. I had to ask the guide in the middle of the ride and thats how I found out. The horses were slow and did not even match up to a person walking on the trail... may be were were given those horses because we said we were beginners ¯\_(ツ)_/¯, not really sure. The guide was cool though and he made us trot couple times, and conversed all the way up and down. Is the money worth for the trail we went? Not really. So, before you go, make sure they are taking you on a trail you booked for. read more

Actually we got there a bit late so we didn't even get that lol, but that's on us. The staff were nice and helpful, the guide was good and nice to talk to. The trail was cool, but I think the real Marin views are more on the longer trails. So I should really come back again with a longer trail and actually on time. read more

Wonderful horsecamp. Plenty of water faucets, bins for manure, fire rings, picnic tables, co-ed showers, men & women's flush toilets & sinks (electricity for blow dryers). Staff is very accommodating. Will bring/move picnic table or fire pit. Wood for sale on site. The trails are some of the BEST I've ever ridden. You have the valley floor going into town or down south, lots of forest single track trails with great footing and for the well conditioned horse (very important) and rider, a ride to the beach is spectacular. The only negative has been witnessed when unfit horses have been ridden to the beach and they tie-up when they return to camp. Also, some bees, poison oak and stinging nettles can be found on some of the trails. read more

It's hard to put into words what this ranch has given me. I grew up riding but hadn't been back in the saddle for probably 10+ years. My first ride was with Fiona who was so warm and welcoming. She made sure my friend and I were safe and comfortable the whole time. She gave gentle guidance, and was very knowledgeable about the area's history, flora and fauna, horses and horsemanship. I've been out riding with her a number of times now and she has become a real friend. That first experience reawakened a joy that had been missing from my life for so long. I'm so grateful to her for everything. T has also been my guide and she is so full of personali-T! Her horsemanship skills are so immense and it's clear she really loves what she does there. She is fantastic with everyone from small children up to advanced riders. Since that first ride a few short months ago, I have been back a number of times to ride or to volunteer. Five Brooks Ranch is a local treasure! We started visiting for highly recommended pony rides when our child was younger. Now it's exciting to see her confidence riding solo. The horses here are well taken care of and happy, and the manager and guides respect their different personalities. We visited this weekend with a group of 2 adults and 4 kids (3 being first-time riders) and had a very positive experience. Our guides Romero and Charles were terrific, made sure everyone was doing ok and having fun, and provided guidance to help our group learn more about riding and communicating with the horses. We went horseback riding at Five Brooks yesterday morning and were so fortunate to have Michelle as our guide. My girlfriend and I were looking for a fun hiking adventure outdoors. While we were looking for trails we came across horseback riding. I have always loved horses and wanted to try and decided to give it a go. It was apparent that Michelle was knowledgeable in her experience with horseback riding. She had a deep love for the horses and enthusiastically expressed the basic instructions on how to ride the horse confidently. We opted for the two-hour morning ride at our own pace; giving us the option walk and trot when we wanted. I can't express how visually stunning the trail was along the way. What a wonderful day we (family of 5) spent at the Five Brooks Ranch! Our guide, Ramiro, was fabulous. Hours before we got there, he went out and cleared a few trails (fallen branches due to the several days of historically bad wind and rain storms this Jan 2023 in Northern Cali). Next he, Andrew and Lisa selected the right horses for our 10 year old (first time ride) and for our adult children, my wife and me. We explored several trails and experienced a few speeds (loved the trotting). Afterward, Ramiro spent some time with my wife and son (26) giving them riding tips. Beautiful location, caring & experienced staff... we are going to return for more this year. I would absolutely recommend this place to everyone who wants to have a great riding experience, with great staff, well kept horses, beautiful scenery and at a rate that's truly affordable for the experience. My friend and myself came to San Francisco to get away from our busy, crazy lives at home and work, to go enjoy some horse back riding. The place we originally planned to visit, recently stopped doing drop by's and now required a reservation. Guess who didn't have one?! So I called around and Five Brooks Ranch was the only place that I could find at such short notice. They scheduled us for a two hour ride starting at around 3. We messed around the city for awhile before taking the beautiful drive to the Five Brooks Ranch for our horse riding adventure. When we arrived we rolled into a wonderful Ranch with a very nice layout, its own private parking area, with lots of friendly knowledgeable staff. The Ranch was so well kept, lots of horses, but not a bit of smell, the grounds were very well kept. We got signed in and a few minutes later the owner approached and we went over a few things, and then heard a little story about the town I live in. Very interesting! Really sorry for your bad luck. They gathered our horses and made sure we got mounted properly. Our guide was Jesus and he was fantastic. He told us many times that this was our experience and he wanted us to be completely happy with it, so it was whatever we wanted, only one rule, stay in single file line. other than that it was probably okay. We got to trot, and canter (faster than a trot, but not as fast as a running) which is something Ive never gotten to do at any place I've ever rented horses, its always just stay to a walk. Gets kinda boring if your an experienced rider. This place was different, based on our experience level, we were allowed to do more, and that was fun. Our guide kept saying if we needed anything or wanted to know anything, please just ask. He mentioned that he would ride very quietly so that we could take in the surroundings, but we told him we preferred conversation. So we had a nice ride, with talking, and joking and getting to know our guide and visa versa a little bit. We took a 2 hour ride, and it was 2 hours I checked my clock, but it was so much fun, it seemed to just fly by. When we returned from our ride, the horses were taken to drink water right away, their gear stripped from them and after was feeding time. All the animals seemed very happy and very much loved. We will for sure be visiting here again, and bringing the kids next time, so they can enjoy the experience as much as we did. Im so glad the first place we picked decided to require reservations, so that I could find this place because hands down this is the best horseback riding experience around.
